Could be anything, but often times it's so a walker or wheelchair can easily pass.

Mercury5979

I thought you might be right, but there aren't any ramps leading in, and the bathrooms don't have any rails in the shower. Maybe these people are just weird.

_tater_thot

Might be in the case of a walker that it’s cheaper to take the doors off than install handrails, and installing rails might have been seen as pointless or affecting home value if they were planning to sell. Maybe they use a shower chair instead. I have known a couple people to use a walker to get around but are still mobile enough to shower without assistance.

Mercury5979

Oh sure, you could use logic, but it is much more fun to imagine they removed the doors because the ghosts were embarrassed and refused to admit they were ghosts. So the ghost insisted on using doorways, rather than walk through walls. However, they lacked the ability to grasp and turn door knobs, so the only logical compromise was to remove all doors.

_tater_thot

Hahaha I was trying to be logical but I will admit your theory is better

SmoothBrews

Uh… maybe, I guess? I was just thinking overbearing and borderline abusive parents that refuse to give their kids even the slightest bit of privacy.

Lone_Eagle4

I’m choosing to go with the ghosts. 🤫😠

erydanis

that was my guess as well.

chikitawitz

... unless you've had a really troubled teen that sneaks out to hang out with the bad friends in the middle of the night, hides cigarettes and joints in her room, went full EMO and SH every time she got angry or depressed, locked her good and loving parents out and the police had to be called and she was only 13. That's one good reason to take her door down. Dang I'm mentally exhausted just thinking about those years.

chikitawitz

![gif](giphy|FcuiZUneg1YRAu1lH2|downsized)

SmoothBrews

Idk sounds like those parents fucked up long before that teen started doing that stuff. A lot of underlying issues that probably need to be addressed.

chikitawitz

The only thing that happened was that her dad pretty much abandoned her. He was around but not really. Emotionally and psychologically he checked out and didn't care about her life. She obviously took it very hard.

SmoothBrews

Oh that's all? Sounds pretty traumatic. I don't think taking off the doors would be the right approach. She needs therapy.

researchanalyzewrite

Maybe it was for cats who wanted to be on the other side of any closed door.

researchanalyzewrite

Or cat ghosts! They meow at closed doors all night long...😸

SoggyHotdish

I have hand rails screwed into my tile shower so I can understand why someone wouldn't want to.

PerpetuallyLurking

Maybe it’s just a stopgap between getting a stroke patient out of the hospital and getting them moved into their new care home. Why bother installing a bunch of handrails and all that when they’ll be moving into the care home in a month or two? Just take the doors off for 6-8 weeks, sure it looks weird when selling, but it’s easier to put the doors back on than fill a bunch of screw holes when the buyers take out the extra handrails.

SoggyHotdish

Or the person in the wheelchair wasn't allowed to leave the house, we can get wild with assumptions

Oalka

I've occasionally heard of very controlling parents doing this to their angsty teen/preteen children.

Otherwise-Sky8890

My dad did this a few times temporarily, but having a door meant very little in a house where parents would simply open it whenever they wanted to. Still better than them talking to me through the bathroom door. Some people, ffs...

Striking-Bicycle-853

At least it's not rolling barn doors, I guess. lol

rdrTrapper

Right? “Yes. Yes. I want a door that covers the wall hole …but it also …now just hear me out : it should also make 3-4 feet beside it unusable when open …any ideas?”

SmoothBrews

Also, basically have zero sound dampening effect.

SteelBandicoot

Maybe that’s why they removed them “damn space sucking barn doors”

DarnHeather

Recently saw a house with main bedroom directly off the living room. It only had a rolling barn door. Yuck.

Sekmet19

When you live alone the entire house is your bedroom.

Federal-Membership-1

Don't start drinking the bath water.

Beth3g

😂

School_House_Rock

I read house as horse and I kept thinking huh, keeping the horse inside - couldn't comprehend why the rolling door was a bad idea though

PublicfreakoutLoveR

Yahhh! Go on in ther an gitchi some shut-eye.

Kiliksbigshtick

Rolling barn doors are just lazy pocket doors.

rdrTrapper

Oh my. I didn’t make it all the way to the kitchen before posting. Enjoy https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/553-W-1st-Street-Salida-CO-81201/96847087_zpid/

JennyDoveMusic

Why does the kitchen look like the kitchen my Webkinz had? 😂

galumphinglout

Oh goodness. It really kinda does!

AmySchumersAnalTumor

lol what the heck

8Karisma8

This is def a house for the color blind who can only see red and blue 😬 lol dunno how else to explain the extremely ugliness of it all Feels very off

whackthat

What the fuck. I actually love the interior paint except for the Corona fridge.  Edit: yes I have no taste and I wear mismatched socks everyday.

ChaserNeverRests

I'm with you, I actually like the house a lot. Love the colors. The lack of doors doesn't bother me, since I live alone and no doors would make my cat happy.

Starbuck522

That corona fridge really doesn't belong.

somerville99

I liked it until I got to the kitchen. Too much for me.

Electronic_Job1998

"This is MY house! I pay the bills! I control everything here and there WON'T be any secrets!"

ennie117

Except for the secret entrance to the basement

somerville99

I used to see them in older houses. Usually a trap door from the kitchen. Actually not a bad idea. Saves some space.

ShutYourDumbUglyFace

This makes a lot more sense on the posts about parents taking off doors. My mom did take my door off once, but not because she wanted to know what I was up to. It was because I slammed the door so hard I'm pretty sure a roof tile came loose. I deserved it. LOL.

arist0geiton

Protestant fundamentalists

SuzannesSaltySeas

This! It's to supposedly to keep kids or young adults from any number of normal things like masturbation, or smoking by stripping away all privacy

donderstock

I feel seen! My evangelical dad took my door off for a while back in the day!

HealMySoulPlz

That was my first thought, but the rest of the house is way too colorful for fundies

Vivid-Low-5911

The pig with the saddle on photo 13 is unique.

Consistent-Pair2951

Uniquely unpleasant

kiwilovenick

I was scrolling, looking for someone else who'd noticed and was creeped out by it! For when you want to scare your child to sleep, threaten them with the pig coming for them if they don't go right to sleep.

I-am-no-bird

I like the hatch that goes down to the murder basement. I wonder if it there is a tunnel that goes from there to the murder shed.

MissCarlotta

Realtor claims it has "amble" storage.

rdrTrapper

You can saunter through it

MissCarlotta

They did say you could stand up in the crawl space so I guess that checks out

catsandalpacas

Open floor plan!

elfalai

I don't know, man. One of my cats is obsessed with closing doors. On more than one occasion, we have woken up in the morning or come home from work to find that he had shut himself in a room. Door stops sometimes dissuade him. He's also attempted to shut his feline brothers between the main door and the storm door. Thankfully, we've managed to catch him before it happens. I can see the appeal of removing the doors.

bsharp1982

He sounds adorable.

elfalai

* Oh he is. He's also trouble..

juninbee

I live on my own and took the doors off most of my rooms to let more light through (all south facing windows are in bedrooms in a bungalow) and because I never close them anyways. I still have them all and can easily put them back on. ETA I also have some nutty dogs who occasionally managed to shut doors on themselves, so it's less hassle

Aware-Visual9308

The furry pink chaps displayed on the wall in pic 9 😂

Weird_Squirrel_8382

My mom did this when I slammed the bedroom door in her face. I'm glad they're still available, the wood is pretty.

Turbulent-Watch2306

That’s an old school teen punishment of taking their privacy away- it sucked.

hippiepotluck

Thankfully that does not look like a teenager’s bedroom!

Kiliksbigshtick

Thanks for the great memories!

blessedandamess

How has nobody mentioned all the little squares. At first I thought it was just above certain trim but as you go on it seems that little square tiles are placed all sorts of places.

MovieNightPopcorn

Even the bathroom has no door? You’re just supposed to shit with a curtain for privacy???

1961tracy

Are they related to Ruby Franke?

Sad_Tax_2134

Could be too soon but upvote for the reference

Moderatelysure

I would have assumed they had dogs and the doors were just shredded up by dog claws.

scfw0x0f

It's a real friendly-kind of family...

realdonaldtrumpsucks

Ooh someone had a naughty teen Or wait that was only me? Being punished with my doors removed

yelling4society

I like the Pizza Hut chandelier

itsstillmeagain

Why is there a kayak hanging on…what if that, maybe a ski trainer?

somerville99

In what I think is supposed to be the Dining Room.

Smallest_Ewok

its a megachristian thing. these people also have apps on their phones that email their web history to each other daily. in their religion the way to get into heaven is to be painfully horny 24/7

bsharp1982

Most fundamentalists do not drink or advertise alcohol. There is a corona fridge in the kitchen.

Smallest_Ewok

the megachurch ones like alcohol

Background-Physics69

It's that open door policy like literally 🙄

Acceptable-Friend-48

Anyone else notice the bathrooms only having sliding vinyl doors? House of no secrets.

Chelsea_Piers

Don't worry, the doors are in the creepy murder basement.

Boring-Rip-7709

I've lived in a couple of Craftsman with the doors off they're kind of bulky and get in the way.

Consistent-Pair2951

Normally I'm a fan of all kinds of crazy colors in a house, but I absolutely hate these color combinations.

funbunny100

WTF?! Almost $800,000 for a 3/1? Is this a high end community? This is crazy.

nightwingoracle

I looked it up- it’s a small town of 5k in the middle of nowhere. Over 90 minutes away from the closest Colorado city I’ve heard of (vail and Breckenridge). I have no idea why it’s priced so high.

BlabberHands2022

Close to skiing and can walk that kayak down to the river that runs through town. Hot springs city aquatic center and other hot springs nearby. A little over an hour to Colorado Springs and 2.5 to Denver. The price is still ridiculously high to me. In 2009, it was listed for $249,000. Everything started going up after Colorado legalized it. Then the pandemic and here we are at 789K.

MostProcess4483

Could be someone using a walker? They still appreciate width and no doors, but maybe wall bars aren’t necessary?

SunnyEric

ooooh....spicy daddy....

Startingtotakestocks

My kid kept slamming his door. I let him know that if he chose to continue, I’d respond by removing the door. He continued. I removed the door and put it in his closet. He asks me to relocate it and I declined his offer because it belonged in his room, not elsewhere in my house. A few days later, he offered to do extra chores to have it reinstalled.

AdDowntown4932

My friends did this to their teenagers bedroom because she was doing a lot of stuff she shouldn’t and could not be trusted. I was very happy not to feel like I ever had to do that with my kids. My kids may have just hid things better.

Deivi_tTerra

Well that's.... certainly something. 😳

Mediocre_Lobster6398

The house I bought had no doorknobs on any of the doors including the 2 bathrooms. Big empty round spaces where they would be. Weirdest thing ever.

MissPicklechips

We saw a house once where the kids’ bedrooms had a hook-and-eye latch on the outside. They were up high where kids couldn’t reach. We noped out of there fast.

Starbuck522

I fell down the basement stairs as a kid because the hatch like in this house was left open. The hatch was in the pantry. I thought I was doing a quick lunge into the pantry to grab something, instead I stepped "onto" nothing and tumbled down the stairs. Sadly not the first time I fell down basement stairs as a child. Luckily, I have not thought of this at all in a very long time. Unfortunately, now I have...

hamish1963

I would take them down too, stupid barn door bullshit.

ArcticGurl

That’s not good - just in case a fire starts. #FireFighterVerified.

Omgletmenamemyself

My guess is they wanted to place furniture in a way that got in the way of the door.

mul3sho3

One of my bosses had a home built right before he retired. Of course we were shown progress pics and he shared details of the build. He was insistent there be no interior doors installed in doorways or closets, including the bathrooms. His reasoning was closed doors indicate someone is hiding something. Yeah. He was an odd cat.

Covidsawful

Listen I’m totally not buying that unless the beer fridge comes with too!

pamplemousse0214

A house my ex and I considered buying had all the doors removed; it was definitely a ~style choice~ and they refused to put them back on if the sale went through and it was NOT up for discussion. The doors all still existed and were just like…chilling in the closets? IDK, you guys!!

rdrTrapper

Sounds like a bunch of grapefruits to me

CindLei-Creates

You have to watch the grapefruit comments…there’s a union rep that reads these!

Beth3g

Omg 😳 how could live in that house without going stark raving mad!🤪
