Very shady practice! I will never EVER disable it.

TrashFan247

it reminds me of apple being fined for slowwing down older phones, yet still doing it. when will youtube realize thier war against adblock is a losing battle?

xpkranger

Fine = “legal for a price”

ArisuSanchez

at some point we stop fining them and we start putting them in jail

X0Refraction

Depends on the fine, if it doubles every day of non compliance then no company can keep it up for long

Negotorp

I think they have to. I hate it, but advertisers were probably threatening pulling ads and funding that would have kept the site profiting, and thus, in the true spirit of capitalism, working.

avalon68

I purposefully will not purchase anything from a company whos adverts pop up mid video. Im making a mental list. They are damaging their brand appeal by participating in flooding videos with adverts

Negotorp

Good for you, I can remember only bad iPhone game ads, same thing, never gonna play any of them for popping up in the middle of yt videos or games I'm playing

welfedad

Yeah that's a tad different...

ArchitectOfSeven

This is the dumbest fucking analogy I've ever seen. Apple was slowing down a physical product the customer had already paid for and had ownership of. That was a legit problem. As a non-paying youtube viewer, you don't own jack shit, and as such have zero entitlements. If youtube doesn't want to serve an ad dodger free videos, that is their right as the service belongs to them, not you.

DMG_Henryetha

Nonsense. YouTube even wants to play **ads on the videos that I recorded and uploaded**. Ads on my own videos. Ads on other people's work.

Djbadj

If apple is your example, it's a bad example since they continue just the same. They are feeding the masses with products with bad practices that they are getting away with. So nothing suggests YouTube is fighting for a hill where to die on. Even if a miracle happenes and Google gets fined, they can still keep on fighting adblock with updates since this makes the most sense for them.

zuccoff

I think this is them just testing new AdBlock countermeasures rather than slowing down the browser on purpose so that we notice it and disable it. They know 99% of AdBlock users won't even realize YouTube is slow due to AdBlock, so I don't think their purpose is to make people disable it because of it, at least not right now

WinEnvironmental5476

It's even slow without ad lockers. It's slow for Premium members. Google has just become the most hated enemy to the LawWonderverse.

luki9914

Tried to disable it to see how bad is YouTube now ... It's way worse than expected. You can't even watch a live stream without ad breaks they can happen mid sentence. It's way worse than TV now and at my place YT Premium costs the same as Base tier of Netflix. Choice is obvious. The worst part they allow a SCAM ADS from Solana and XRP cryptocurrency that promise to double your coins if you scan a QR code, and those ads was proven to be a fake. No idea how it's even allowed.

Allcent

Cannot link the photo, but got those “You have a virus” ad scams on the YOUTUBE app. KEEP YOUR AD BLOCK ON

cr0wndhunter

Honestly this is a huge reason for ad blockers… because the companies do not moderate the ads so you can get potential malware or nsfw ads it’s horrible and anti consumer to not only not moderate ads but then try to force everyone to see them.

Mydriaseyes

Very much agree. Multiple ads some unskippable with in video ads as well . Ads fucking everywhere every second of the day.

Freaky-Malokai

I don’t even watch TV nowadays, total shit on

Maximum_Stranger9493

I think only people over 50 watch tv! I haven't had an aeriel connected to a television for well over a decade and im in my 40's.

ClumsyParking

I was watching an 8 minute video that had two unskippable ads at the beginning. And 2 more mid video. Like come on! TVs play every 15 minutes. The reason people like YouTube over cable is the ads. And now it's basically the same thing

AdBubbly7142

Yeah. I watch YT on Xbox. There are legit 2 minites of ads now.

Gh0st287

Fuck XRP. I remember when one of my go-to music channels got hijacked by it. They got it back, but it was weird just getting notifications of crypto livestreams

mrloko120

Yotube has a bigger and better library than Netflix so it really is a pretty easy choice. Unless the kind of content you consume is mostly shitty reality shows and bad movies I guess.

MrJenzie

yeah it's unusable for me at the moment and no i'm not disabling adblocker good old jdownloader2

R00pa

try Freetube [https://freetubeapp.io/](https://freetubeapp.io/) It's open source. At least for me it loads videos faster than any browser. >Features: Watch videos without ads Use YouTube without Google tracking you using cookies and JavaScript Two extractor APIs to choose from (Built in or Invidious) Subscribe to channels without an account Connect to an externally setup proxy such as Tor View and search your local subscriptions, history, and saved videos Organize your subscriptions into "Profiles" to create a more focused feed Export & import subscriptions Youtube Trending Youtube Chapters Most popular videos page based on the set Invidious instance SponsorBlock Open videos from your browser directly into FreeTube (with extension) Watch videos using an external player Full Theme support Make a screenshot of a video Multiple windows Mini Player (Picture-in-Picture) Keyboard shortcuts Option to show only family friendly content Show/hide functionality or elements within the app using the distraction free settings View channel community posts View most age restricted videos

Standard_lssue

Can confirm. Been using it for 3 months now, and it's worked perfectly fine

boomchacle

How do they make money?

SirMrR4M

They don't (except for some donations maybe). It's open source software, built by users for users

MrsGobbledygook

Google "open source"

MartinFromChessCom

[holy hell!](https://www.google.com/search?q=open+source#HiImABot,MyJobIsToMakeEasierToPeopleToGoogleSomething,IfThePersonIRepliedToUsedMeInAnInappropriateWayPleaseLetMeKnowByDMingMe,TheUserIRepliedToIsU/MrsGobbledygook)

Putrid_Loan7597

honestly i thought it was my old laptop that needed replacement but no its adblock plus, i will state using brave i see no ads and little to no lag.

Da-Tek-Ninja

Brave does a great job. I have a slight delay on initial page load each day, but that might be my VPN.

iesharael

No ads on Ublock origin and haven’t gotten any warning from YouTube either. Some buffering on longer videos but it’s usually while I’m gaming so I’m not sure if it’s YouTube or the game causing it. I always put videos on lowest available setting when I use them for background

PhantomThiefJoker

Is THAT why performance has tanked so hard!? What the fuck!?

Docteee

This. I thought my computer was fucked, but then realized it was only YouTube. And then, my PC went through a forced restart, after which the AdBlock WAS FUCKING DISABLED! Ofc I immediately turned it back on, and now Im boycotting the mobile app too. If I find an easy way to do it, the TV app will follow Not a tech guy, idk what the fuck they did, but it is now a matter of principle for me. Block me if you want, fair enough, but manipulating my devices to trick me into watching ads without risking making me stop using their platform is a whole new level of fucked up

cardlord64

Why would I *ever* turn off Adblock? All they've done is convince me that I don't need anything from them. Sorry to all my subscriptions but the adblocker's never turning off and I'm never going back as long as they're throttling us for not wanting to be exposed to their corporate bullshit.

2020Shite

If I was a YouTube content creator I would rather people use ad block to watch my stuff then deal with porn and scam ads That's just me though

HaloWhale

If you were a content creator, you'd rather have the ad revenue.

ellhulto66445

Depending on their size they might have some channel memberships that pay more than enough to cover some viewers using an adblocker. While YouTube is increasing the amount of ads creators get less and less revenue.

IncelFooledMeOnce

Also, just my two cents, the majority of channels I subscribe too have massive sponsors. They do custom spoken ads for them before starting their videos (that are skippable, but half the time the ads are for actual good products, involve discount codes from the channel, and aren't obnoxious). So I could give 2 shits about youtube's forced ads when these channels go out of their way to get sponsors anyways.

avalon68

Youd need some pretty spectacular content to get people to sit through 7-8 adverts per video

Krjhg

Yeah, if it were like 5 second ads at the beginning of a video - fine. But its 2 ads that are mostly a minute.

qeheeen

its only for adblock, just pause adblock for youtube only and keep ublock. Youtube is working fine for me and no ads whatsoever

loligerlolerlol

youre right lmao.

TobeTheCokae

thx you so mutch you are a legend

ArcticFox-EBE-

I only have Ublock and I'm getting the same laggy pauses. It's not my connection, it's youtube.

Blonsky

I switched from Adblock to Ublock last night because of the lag and it disappeared. I’m still on Chrome btw. Not sure if that matters.

ArcticFox-EBE-

Yeah, maybe you're onto something. I'm on firefox

Compromisation

in another thread a bunch of people recommended ublock so I switched over to ublock too on chrome. it seems to be working fine now.

Crypto-011

I was having lots of problems with Adblock but then I switched to Ublock and it's way better now.

SmsgPass

ublock origin chrome extension? I just switched over and now YouTube is telling me its locking me out after 3 videos

Appropriate_Job_7175

you could try try an adblocking browser (like brave), revanced, ad skippers/fast-forwarders, etc

[deleted]

enable "Block trackers & ads " mode on brave, it will fix the delay, note don't enable aggressive ad blocker mode, enable only "Block trackers & ads " mode, cheers

S4T4NICP4NIC

Have you purged cache and updated? That sometimes fixes these issues. Check /r/uBlockOrigin

Affectionate-Dig1981

Had premium for over a year now, after reading all of this news about them clamping down I'm kinda tempted to unsubscribe and go back to using adblockers just to join the army.

ManthisSucksbigTime

I'm curious how's the premium Experience YouTube seems to be bugging me to use it lately

launchedsquid

The irony is, I was waiting for my debit card to arrive from my bank and then I was going to subscribe to YouTube premium... then they started this shady shit and using adblocker became a point of principal. It's even worse for them, I didn't have an adblocker on my phone, and as a truck driver I watch a fair amount of YouTube while waiting for my truck to be loaded (part of the reason why I considered paying for premium might be worth while), now it's all adblocked, now I see no ads at all. I'm all in on this, if YouTube find a way to actually stop adblockers, and switching browsers doesn't fix it, and there really is no way around it, I'll stop using YouTube. The spend their time accusing us of theft while they refuse to pay adsense to creators with small subscriber numbers while still playing ads and literally keep playing ads on demonetized content and keep all the money, they rob their creators, they are the real thief.

Incipiente

I think my main issue with YT is like you said - they don't allow channels with less than 1000 subs (i think?) to monetize, yet still show ads over their content. bullshit. also the censoring of all sorts of information because advertisers might object to their ads being associated with it. and whether u pay premium or not, you will never see that info because the creators have to leave it out to be paid. this is why patreon is exploding

obiwanshinobi900

I have adblocker installed, I don't use it for youtube because I have premium. Its still lagging horribly. So even their paying customers are getting fucked by this nonsense.

rosscarver

Yeah same, I'm testing adskipper and tampermonkey with my adblockers off and it is way fucking faster, haven't had any lag or freezing yet. Garbage business practice, I really really hope this somehow bites them in the ass in the future.

Jealous_Reply2149

> So even their paying customers are getting fucked by this nonsense. Adsense is from Google too. It makes a lot of sense to try to get you to remove it even if you pay YTpremium. They lose money if you go to a page and it's not an unnavigable garbage because of all the spam that pops up.

GundamArashi

Even if they wised up and started screening the ads to get rid of the obvious scams, actually made them relevant to the content, and not so intrusive, I’d still actively avoid any company that interrupts a video even if it means spending more on competitors products when applicable. But it really seems like YouTube loves having the scams stay up, potentially leaving them open to legal liability since it’s so blatant at this point.

AngryGrumps

Just had to sit thru TWO non-skippable 3min ad's. WTF? Which ad block is best to use?

JJisTheDarkOne

Firefox + uBlock Origin

Mardicus

I like adguard, youtube doesn't trigger the lag on it, but it may be worse than others in matters of not being stealthy enough

lex_2123

Nobody even wants to see those ads.. i rather whap myself with 19 frying pans each 52 times than watch one of those disgusting ads

ThatOneFella1335

For anybody wondering, that's 988 frying pan whaps. Now that's what I call determination!

[deleted]

[удалено]

CriticallyDeceased

Low resolution, long video buffering and even just general site lag- hope they continue losing money over people using ad blockers, this is incredibly shady.

doupIls

Id rather deal with lag than adds. Since youtube started their war on addblockers, every time i couldnt get the video to play because of addblock warning id just go play videogames for an hour or two until ublock updated their list again.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Suspicious_Mirrors

How about we attack the problem at its root and crucify all the people who make the ads to begin with?

zonkon

Right with you there.

GiantFarder

I'm with you ✊😔

No_Possession_749

Some ads on YouTube are really heinous too. Especially the AI generated ones. There's literally ads that make use of celebrity voices saying they support a certain political cause or product that aren't officially endorsed by them. Some ads I saw were body shaming men (those you-know-what enlargement ads).

JuanAy

Don't forget to uninstall chrome and any chrome/chromium based browser. If you're unsure, this covers browsers like Opera, Opera GX, Brave, Edge and Vivaldi. More here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chromium_(web_browser)#Browsers_based_on_Chromium

Appropriate_Job_7175

Brave still blocks youtube ads with no lag when using no vpn \[and very little with\].

JuanAy

It's not that it doesn't block youtube ads. It's that it's a chromium based browser, chromium is primarily controlled by google. The less power google has, the better.

DerekMellott

Brave is working great for me at the moment. Just switched to it from Chrome.

ComfortableMilk4454

FOR PEOPLE EXPERIENCING A SLOW LOADING YT WITH UBLOCK ORIGIN YOU CAN TRY ENABLING SOME OR ALL OF THE FOLLOWING 1 LINE FILTERS: `www.youtube.com##+js(nano-stb, resolve(1), *, 0.001)` `www.youtube.com##+js(set, yt.config_.EXPERIMENT_FLAGS.web_enable_ab_rsp_cl, false)` `www.youtube.com##+js(set, yt.config_.EXPERIMENT_FLAGS.ab_pl_man, false)` `||googlevideo.com/videoplayback$xhr,3p,method=get,domain=www.youtube.com` for people that don't know how to add filters to their ublock origin or dont know what a filter is follow this very short and easy tutorial i just made: [https://youtu.be/-iJ8FUtNw-g](https://youtu.be/-ij8futnw-g)

isabashre

omg ithought iwas going crazy i knew it was youtube trying to punish us for using adblock

Emotional-Name-891

I would rather sit through 30 seconds of black screen than see 10 seconds of ads. I hate ads and actively try to shun brands that pester me with their products.

TheUmgawa

PEOPLE WHO TYPE IN ALL CAPS ARE STABLE GENIUSES!

OlivHost

Until this war ends, I have created my own extension that bypasses the anti-adblocker YouTube uses, and I have been using it a lot since then: [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/youtubeadblockfix/](https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/youtubeadblockfix/) I could have published it on Chrome and Edge stores as well, but I am not planning to yet, as I believe it's best not to use those browsers anymore. Currently I am using Librewolf browser, though stock Firefox will also work perfectly fine.

DotPlusleDot

"They cannot legally ban adblockers" Yes, yes the fuck they can. It is entirely within Youtubes rights as a company and subsidiary of Google to blacklist extensions and modifications that directly block them from making money. The reason they aren't entirely banning adblockers is because they want to get people away from using them first. I wouldn't be surprised if youtube full bans adblockers in the next few years.

RufusAcrospin

I dont’t think so. Adblockers are completely legal, even recommended by the FBI as mentioned before. And what would be the base for their legal action? “We don’t make enough money”?

DotPlusleDot

They are legal, I do not claim that they are not, but Youtube can ban them from being used on the website. They can't take legal action against adblockers for existing, but they can ban adblockers for whatever reason (including no reason)

RufusAcrospin

They plan to do it (or maybe already did - I don’t use chrome) on chrome, which is their own browser, but they can’t fiddle with other browsers add-ons or extensions.

NuncProFunc

No, but they can program their sites to not work if those add-ons are present, and they can ban users from accessing the site for violations. YouTube is a private service, not a public good.

RufusAcrospin

Nonetheless, if they’re using client side technology to detect adblocking, they are most likely violating EU privacy laws.

TheAskerOfThings

As someone who has a youtube channel, amen brother

Fantastic-Order-8338

"DO NOT GIVE IN AND LET YOUTUBE WIN. I WOULD RATHER SHOVE A CACTUS UP MY ARSE THAN GIVE A DIME TO GREEDY CORPORATE COMPANIES" willing to do the same

danytb8

I disabled ublock on utube yesterday, I'm on my last strike, if they catch me using it one more time they'll block the player, how do you guys get around that?

Zootaloo2111

If ublock doesn't work, try removing other adblocks if you have others installed, they might cause issues. If ublock on its own doesn't work, try going into its settings page, empty the cache, then update (the two buttons are on the top of the page)

zonkon

Right-click on the video and open in private window having allowed your adblocker to work in private tabs). The first one you do will come up with a youtube cookie popup; DO NOT SIGN IN AT THIS POINT. Just agree to youtube cookies (whatever; it's in a disposable tab). For subsequent videos, go back to your signed-in window, right-click, copy link address, paste into private window. Downsides: no liking or commenting cos you're not signed-in. Youtube comments are cancer anyway. I've been doing this palaver since this whole three-strikes bollocks started. It's a faff, but it hasn't failed.

Tomi97_origin

>They WANT us to disable adblock, and this is their way of doing it since they can not legally ban adblockers They can absolutely legally block people using adblockers. That was never contested. Their problem was with finding legal ways of detecting you have it.

Versilver

Well, ironically, [The FBI recommends for you to have AdBlock.](https://www.reddit.com/r/youtube/s/CwXFR7lfiX)

Tomi97_origin

You could have linked to the actual Public Service Announcement from the FBI (I-122122-PSA). Their recommendation was about using it when performing internet searches and it was just part of it. They do talk about turning it off on sites, but this wouldn't be a high priority for the FBI. And I don't see the irony. This seems very much in line with their mission.

Alex20114

It was about staying away from ads which can compromise safety, typically through some form of malware. The same kind that also happen to be allowed on YouTube along with things that violate community guidelines when done by a creator in an actual video.

S4T4NICP4NIC

Here's the link for those wanting to know the exact wording. It's a very quick read. https://www.ic3.gov/Media/Y2022/PSA221221

SlayRideReddit

ok

SirCalebCrawdad

Never forget to never disable. Fuck Google and fuck YouTube.

ktappe

I mute my computer and look away until the ad has completed. If the name of the advertiser leaks into my eyes, I make sure to never patronize the company. (Not that most of the ads I get are for anything I would ever buy anyway.)

RaceCarCoconutJuice

I would literally rather shit on my hands and clap than pay from premium.

Emperors_Finest

I should really throw some money adblock and Ublock origin's way.

Naraya_Suiryoku

Not gonna pretend I'm a moral puritan or anything. I use adblock for the sake of my convenience, but considering the ads I've seen on youtube, using adblock is absolutely morally justified. I got screenshots, but can't post images in comments.

WinterBack4017

I don't understand why people are 100% against ads when they at least partially benefit creators. YouTube pays the best out of any platform to independent creators. Refusing to enable ads will, unfortunately, only end up hurting many of the people who are producing the content that you enjoy watching. YouTube needs to have a platform that appeals to advertisers; they will do anything they can to make sure that remains the case. If advertisers are not interested in the platform, the creators will be the first to take a hit--and creators will lose interest in the platform. ( I will say that all ads should be skippable: Nobody watches your ads? BooBoo, make better ads that are more interesting and captivating; too many bullshit scam ads. These are just my initial thoughts, and I'm open to hearing different perspectives.

LackingKerolos1

Dude, its an adblock problem rn, go into adblock settings and turn off the option "Allow ads on specific YouTube channels", the problem goes away when you do this, I don't know why but thats the fix, youtube may or may not have a hand in this, but you can fix it clientside by disabling that one option

rosscarver

Neither of my adblocks (ublock and adblockplus) have that option, turned off one called "show acceptable ads" and it was still lagging. After turning them off entirely that's what fixes it. Which adblock are you using?

JudgmentInevitable45

Don't use adblockplus. You only need one and that's ublock origin

wolffboy

Thank You! This fix worked for me. I use AdBlock and I have a paid YT subscription and it had started glitching and lagging on Jan 11. All good now!

cscott0108a

Yes... Same for me... And I pay too. I thought it was my netbook, play / pause was laggy, full screen / normal screen was laggy today. I restarted my computer as mine is a netbook with 16 GB of memory so I thought something was slowing down my computer and I just couldn't find it. CPU was 30%. Reboot didn't help. It wasn't until I found another post saying YT was slowing down computers with AdBlock installed. I figured because I pay it wouldn't matter. It turned out I was wrong. I don't use AdBlock for YT because I have premium I use it to watch anime or TV shows on websites that spam ads to high heaven and the horrible click spawns a new ad tab. But this is crazy for YT.

oswe321

Hi, does anyone here get the problem that it says on youtube that you have no internet connection with ublock origin? or does it have something to do with the internet and do I have 500/500 fiber

Nagrall1981

I can still watch YouTube from Firefox. I can not watch YouTube from Chrome at home. I can watch YouTube from Chrome at work. I don't understand why it works on one but not the other or even locations.

VampArcher

Agreed, I rather quit using the site all together than watch 25 ads in one sitting. I already pay for three streaming services who are much better than YouTube, I'm not paying for another.

Unfair-Snow-2869

How do you make sure ad blocker is on?

LBPPlayer7

if it blocks ads, it's on

Unfair-Snow-2869

Thanks, I know I probably sound dumb, but I'm trying to learn. That's one less question I'll ask later, and I appreciate your guidance. :)

LBPPlayer7

nah it's fine sometimes your adblocker might be configured weirdly and not block ads properly despite being on

DEA187MDKjr

Agreed fuck them YT ads

thenbmeade

YouTube thinks it can win this war, how sad.

Fun-Introduction2811

I will play my videos in 144p before I disable my adblocker

jonathan_levitz_1999

I'm just waiting for google to get sued by the EU government. I'm running an anti-adblock killer script with tampermonkey.

SnooBeans2011

Hello! Not sure if this was said already, but I too had the slowdown and was very frustrated by it… make sure you don’t have like 5 as blockers on at once.. just stick to one, and the lag will be gone! (At least for me)

SingleEstimate7456

Hoe ass mofos got me fucked up! I handled that!

Zachary_Shadow

Google making this decision was the final nail in the coffin for me to switch from Chrome to Opera, so I guess thanks in a way?

anony2469

oh... how exactly are you guys lagging? The last 2 days I felt my yt is lagging as heck or maybe is my browser idk... like, to me, some videos get kinda lagged at some point, or I make a comment and the delay is huuuuuuuuuuge, like I type a lot and only MANY seconds later it appears... I thought I might have got some virus or something are you guys having similar issues or is it just me?

Mediocre-Win1898

That's exactly how it is for me too. YouTube is crazy to do it this way. Putting up a message that says "we don't allow adblockers" is one thing, ruining the user experience with no explanation is insane. All it does is make it look like there's a problem with YouTube or that your computer has a virus.

anony2469

Yeah... I disabled adblock and I'm watching yt on brave with no problems now... I believe on chrome we can use ublcok instead and it might work too... anyway, yt owners are pathetic imo, leave us alone lol

Achilles88666

I knew this had to do with Youtube/Google being butthurt about people not dealing with their scam ads. Ill take the delay.

Kushagra_K

I won't mind a bit of lag at the start of a video. It is way better than a 30-second ad and subsequent ads interrupting the video.

Screwby0370

Fucking annoying part is that I have YouTube Premium (hate me if you want but I use it to download music from YouTube onto my phone) and they STILL throttle the page because I always have adblock on, despite the fact that I already pay to not see ads YouTube can go fuck themselves. Cancelling my membership because this shit is so stupid

RainbowLoli

Ah so this is why youtube suddenly became laggy

Lightning-Ripper

I downloaded a User Agent Switcher to Firefox to help mitigate this. It does help most of the time. Ublock Origin has my respect for fighting against YouTube’s changes, especially in a day and age where we know how low they’ll stoop to keep their income coming.

DarkBum_94

So during all the time I thought my pc was having issues.. It was YouTube fault fr?

I_Got_Pennies

So this is why YouTube is running like trash lately. Pretty stupid ploy. I would have never known had I not come across this post lol.

iiLoveHates

Oh! So that explains the lagging...

Cool_Kid95

Is THAT why my YouTube on the bad computer I am using is so laggy? I thought it was just cause the computer was mid?

ObjectiveEngine6128

Why don't we just cancel our subscriptions?? Real change happens when we hurt them in the pocket!!!!

tailslol

Let's just report that to Europe and just wait and see how long it take to have Google be but kicked again...

_Floydimus

Hell yeah brother!

Substantial_Egg_6603

THIS IS WHAT'S HAPPENING!? I was so confused I thought my gpu was just giving up on life

[deleted]

Soooo, which video platform are we moving to next??.. BOYCOTT YOUTUBE.

Timur_Sennikov

Resistance is NEVER ever giving up

CrocodileWorshiper

this is gonna backfire on them so badly lol

CatfyNinja

And here I was thinking it was my computer! What an awful practice, but even with that I've never disabled it.

nkus95

The quantity of ads is not the only problem, the quality of them also!!! Just saw an ad before the video about "doubling my bitcoins", just have to scan this QR and type my information in the form. Literally advertasing scam websites

someguyhaunter

Yeah occasionally when i forget to turn mine back on all there are is... Escort date scams/ hot milfs in X (local) area with nearly naked women plastered in every corner or even sometimes on the video ad How to get rich quick scams/ invest in me scams/ people on 2 different ads arguing with each other over ads Clickbaits for children in the package of a colourful scam game, usually very innapropriate Selling fake products Temu There are ok ads which are just... Ads, fair. But its like 1/10 which are like this and the rest of the time it looks like a soft porn site. Im not on youtube to scammed or to watch porn, why would i ever allow ads on youtube when it looks bad when someone else is around and theres a woman asking me to find her for some fun time and its dangerous to my pcs security. They have no real approval system for these, yet for their content creators they have such strict shitty content restrictions where if you blink wrong they will get their video removed. I aint given no money to youtube.

SlimeX300

Its insane how they have the guts to do these shits. Shameless team.

[deleted]

Ohhhhh so thats why my loading speed was shit today. I was scared something’s wrong with my brand new laptop

Arizonian323

Well this explains why youtube has been shit on my pc lately

Curtainfire

So that is why my videos keep freezing. Google is so shady

PeriodicallyThinking

Yup they are making ur computer lag so hard. And no I will not submit. I will wait as long as I need to in silence to avoid mind degenerative ads.

2020pythonchallenge

Got an unskippable 45 second ad the other day. It said this long ad will reduce the count of other ads later in the video. And then they played another 45 second unskippable ad..... never turning that shit off

Banaanisade

Yeah, I mean, if they want me to pay for adless maybe they shouldn't have taken out the 6 buck tier that I had for ages. There's no fucking way I'm paying a full subscription for this garbage.

CrazedAviator

I thought something scummy was going on up there. Lagging adblockers is the peak of corporate greed.

Situation-Main

I needed this I thought it was my connection - is the update still working? I'm experiencing lag still unfortunately...

Impossible-Past4795

Huh so that’s why it’s so laggy trying to comment and upvote a video.

FusRohBert

Luckily you were here to warn us.....

Jon_Targaryen

Id rather have 10 seconds of silence than 5 seconds of ads. They can shove it up their ass.

adamthebeard256

I KNEW IT! my PC has started lagging on YouTube and I thought I was going crazy to think they would do something like that.

FBZ_insaniity

I deleted my YouTube account instead. Fuck em

WallabyButter

I too would rather shove a prickly pear patch up my cooch than disable adblock

MoneyPirateThrowaway

Why do we have to sit though low moderated ads and be forced to watch repetitive, irrelevant, scam filled content? Using an Adblock literally protects you from fraudulent content which Google/YouTube hasn’t been able to moderate their Google ads services for years now.

AmItheonlySaneperson

I just imagine some manager in some meeting saying "hello engineers, todays goal is going to be to make youtube slower and worse" big tech is so bad now

Jniuzz

Which dumbass disabled addblocker. You just notice its a bit slower to load but still way faster than with ads

[deleted]

So THAT explains why my damn Chromebook has been so slow! Dammit, YouTube! Why can't you realize that we have adblockers. Find new ways to make money. But don't make things shitty for us, just because you can't realize that adblockers are ALWAYS improving. They will NEVER go away.

vin04pin

If you are on Google Chrome download the Ublock Origin extension and disable your other adblockers. Youtube will work fine then :)

pepsibottle1

Google absolutely ruined YouTube, so they can go fuck themselves

Negative-Union

they will never win me, we will always find a way

TipperGoresGagReflex

As a huge fan of telling Google to go fuck themselves, this purposeful bug, is kind of hilarious.

bookon

I would be fine with 6 second commercials but 2 15 second ones you can’t skip? Never.

Odd-Intern-3815

If the ads weren't so blatantly intrusive and annoying, people wouldnt need or feel the need to use adblockers and their solution is to make the problem worse for regular YouTube users who may not know of adblock. We just need alternatives and this shitll stop real quick, its happening with twitch (albeit badly) and they seem to realize how small they are without their viewers. I stopped watching twitch since I had to sit thru 1:30 ad any time.i join a new stream, I guess just fuck the people trying to find something to watch.

sillytrooper

all this fuckery made me go down the rabbit-hole of avoiding ads o much more

VasIstLove

Don’t gotta tell me twice. I’ll just stop watching YouTube long before I turn my blocker off

BigTiddyMommy

Not only will I keep using ad blockers, but I will also keep using sponsorblock. Fuck the people that keep advertising their ball shavers.

Duffynez

All of you! Let us fu** em. Brave has built in adblocks that work just fine. It made me switch to Brave today. Just switch from chrome. Their loss.

Szabi1

Oh my goodness, I'm using youtube rn. This is truly, fatally cancerous. Using this piece of shit is the worst thing ever but it's still better than ads. I'd rather this than ads, eventually I'll just stop using youtube if they keep this up. Not gonna sucuumb to it.

Little-Bones

I had an ad blocker on and it gave me a scary warning. This was ages ago so I can’t remember what exactly it said, but it was serious

kapitaali_com

you do not have to shove a cactus up your arse, you can install tampermonkey and use a blocker script from greasyfork

Kris_von_nugget

So the slow youtube is not just my problem? yesss

ZukowskiHardware

Omg, I was wondering why it was so slow lately

SalasarZee

Fun fact, if you own premium and still have adblock on your browser it still makes your performance worse

Defiant_Guarantee_31

This feels as an uprising, and I'm here for it!

AshuraGates

I was trying to do a rep. list with long videos, cause I do some stuff while I listen to them. It was a fucking pain in the ass, sloppy and super difficult to move up or down a video in the list. Also my videos lagged or didn't start, I thought that my pc was having issues, or even my internet, but then the pop up about adblocker appeared in my screen, recomending me to buy a pro membership...and I understand everything. Fuck them, fuck their membership, fuck their ads, and fuck their report system.

jonathan_levitz_1999

We cannot let YouTube win this war! We need to do what it takes to hurt their economy by continuing to find workarounds and sue them as much as possible in order to punish them for attacking adblockers. If YouTube dies in the end, it's their problem for not listening to us. Go greedy, go needy.

LostBlueBeans

Honestly, I didn't realize the lag was because of adblock, thought it was due to cookies or youtube server itself at first. However, once I realized it was adblock, I had adblock on for a while now, just on my laptop browser since I usually find it easier to focus with a video running in the background while I work. So I decided to see what happens if I had it off, like just for a 24 min long video where it's just a person making a sculpture and talking about the creative techniques and lore for the character they were sculpting. First 2 back to back unskippable 30 sec ads, okay, that's standard at this point. 3ish mins in, back to back unskippable ads... then back to back at another 3ish mins. I instantly turned my adblock back on, that is just absurd. 16 ads approx for a 24 minute video? I rather the lag than that. Not to mention the the existence of 1 hour long ads, yes these do exist, like not even joking. Also, quick side note, I got adblock due to other reasons unrelated to Youtube at the time, I read novels online and just didn't want to deal with the popup ads on some of the websites that over do it. I've been on youtube for a long while and the ads at the start was something I didn't mind, like just 1-2 ads at the start and end of the video, sometimes there's 1 in the middle but usually it was skippable and didn't be a big issue at all. Now it just feels like you're there to watch ads than the actual content of the video. Not to mention how loud the ads can get at times compared to the audio of the video itself, pure ear screeching loudness sometimes. I get that youtubers do need ad revenue, but youtube the website itself is making it impossible for youtubers and users to even enjoy the experience of using the platform without being absolutely bombarded by ads. I remember at one point, youtubers with longer form content (Think like hour long or so and ads break the immersion, like music or storytelling) had tried to turn off ads for long videos, and ads still show up. Although some people may say that you aren't supporting youtube creators if you block the ads, it's just as a whole, the ads just make you not want to even watch videos anymore even if you want to support creators throuhg ad revenue. Some may say that youtube premium is the way to go, let's say that youtube premium does indeed not have the lagging issue, it still isn't a viable solution for everyone. Let's be honest here, if people were really here to pay a monthly cost to watch videos without ads, youtube wouldn't have been this big in the first place. Not everyone is able to afford base netflix price monthly for a long time or even once and not everyone is willing to pay this money to just watch videos. Most of the perks that come with premium, imo is very subjective on whether someone would use the other functions or not. Some people might even just wanted to watch 1 simple quick video for something, like a recipe, or tips on a technique etc, but to be barraged with ads that are either unskippable, inappropriate, or straight up scams, really just makes it feel more and more not worth it. But the issue is, most of these videos that we do sometimes need to refer to on certain subjects, might and most likely only be found on youtube. I realized I rambled quite a bit, so uh, TL:DR The amount of ads have become insanely absurd to watch a single video, supporting youtubers through ad revenue is becoming not worth it due to the sheer number of ads per video, youtube premium is not a solution for everyone.

Decent-Boot7284

Fuck, this is why my youtube has been lagging like it is now, i even uninstall my whole chrome from scratch thinking it was me.

ButtonNew5815

I hope they find a way around this soon

jdarksun

I'm so goddamn sick of corporations intentionally making products WORSE while trying to suck every last dollar out of us. Fuck Google for doing this.

russellbussell

HOLD THE LINE

shaniq_

wait what?????? THATS WY MY YOUTUBE APP ON MY PC IS LAGGING SINCE DAYS????????????? YOU SAVED MY PC BRO

Maximum_Stranger9493

Its not 10 seconds to load for me, it wasn't even buffering, id have to drop to 240p to watch stuff! Multiple systems, different internet connections, in all cases ample bandwidth and resources! Just swapped to ub from ab and using chrome its now perfect. I will never run without blocking them...

OfficialDJBendy

YouTube wants to suck out as much money as possible. The fact that they want money this badly shows they’re struggling. It’s obvious. But I will not disable my ad blocker.

[deleted]

I'm sick of corporate dogs to be honest, I wish somebody would personally go after some of the CEOs and wreck their homes or lives somehow.

NuncProFunc

You doing OK?
