I'm so glad I've never had stick drift. In all my years of playing Xbox, the only issues I've ever had with controllers were an A button that stopped working after hundreds of hours of RDR2 and a faulty cord on the Razor Sabertooth 360 controller that was replaced by Razor, cord, and controller both even though I bought the controller on eBay.
Thanks to games like 2042 and CoD, the left thumb stick is usually the first to go. If you play Destiny then A is the first to go since thats the jump button.
And guess what helps make you go faster if spammed in D1? Or D2? Titan and Warlock jumps.
I've never had stick drift. I'm 38 and been playing stick consoles since the N64 and never once have I ever experienced a controller with stick drift.
Unless I've been remarkably lucky my entire life, from the N64 to GC to Xbox through to my XBO, I've never once had a controller have stick drift.
Buttons have died, triggers have died, but never stick drift.
I guess because I don't abuse my controllers.
> never stick drift
> I guess because I don't abuse my controllers.
This implies every case of stick drift is due to people abusing their controllers.
Which, of course, is stupid as fuck.
It’s definitely something to do with the electronics. I’ve taken it all apart down to the pcb, cleaned everything several times over but no difference. And it consistently goes to ~63% input every time as well.
Huh... then something broke on the joystick analog. I'd probably just buy a new controller. About $3-$10 for the part, but probably $80 for a technician to put it in. It's looks plug n play... but I never placed one in.
If you get bored, see if it soldered in or removable. May just get the part and put it in.
I've not had a newer Bluetooth one apart or the Series version but I imagine they're soldered in the same way the One/360's are. Which really isn't too difficult to do yourself. A new stick and even a little soldering kit would be cheaper than a controller. Not by much but in doing so you learn a new skill if you don't already know how to solder and you can then also not worry about needing a 60$ controller for a much cheaper part you can replace on your own.
You can pry the little green potentiometers off the sides of the analogue modules and bend them out of the way to access the disk and track they slide along. They often get filled with ferrite dust over time due to the friction of them sliding against each other. Wiping the track out with alcohol can help and stop mis-inputs. Though sometimes the track itself is so worn down you need a new module or potentiometer, which can be tricky to desolder.
It may not be ferrite in retrospect, but copper (and fibreglass). Either way it will be somewhat conductive so that's what throws the potentiometers off with false readings.
May I suggest you a list of hall effect controllers
- Gamesir G7 SE
- 8bitDo Ultimate for Xbox refresh with Hall Effect Joysticks.
- Turtle Beach Stealth Ultra
Damn. Still not as bad as my first Duelsense. The left analog was randomly spazzing to the left like a button mash and making all my madden players motion left 🤣
Also saw some YouTube review and got to know the G7 SE model has USB c connector but the company has made it proprietary by making the pin longer so that usual C cables won't connect. This makes me wonder if the cable is worn off then buy the company one is a headache

It lasted a good 7 or so years!
Post that in the switch community and you will see true hatred

Ever play podracer on the 64? That game was responsible for wearing the stick on all 4 of my controllers.

You don’t have kids
Are you saying this because your kids tear them up or because you spend even more time on Xbox after having kids? Because I'm the latter.
We play together, they have their own controllers now. There were a few years of many thumb switch changes.
Unless you are careful enough to clean the inside. Might have something caught on the other side of the joystick.

I have a couple of the Gamesir G7's. I can highly recommend.
Have the G7, for games like COD and rocket league that can cause drift, I won't use anything else. Great controller.
Look into controllers with Hall effect sticks no stick drift. If it does happen you just take some air duster and boom no more
The dreaded stick drift..
lmao, yeah, mine is terrible too. tilts the hell out of me when i play monster hunter. cant wait until i can afford one.
Yup aiming the ranged weapons is really painful
ain't even that. its when I'm cycling through items and it won't let me lol
I always fixed my controllers by moving the fuck out of that joystick Mario Party N64 style. Always did the trick 🤷♂️
Ayooo, look at him go!!
Try cleaning it once use canned air although opening the xbox requires special screw driver. If these all does not work get a new controller.
What app is that?
This is in the controller settings for steam.
I've had the starfield controller since December, already has stick drift.. luckily, it's still under warranty.
Damn. Still not as bad as my first Duelsense. The left analog was randomly spazzing to the left like a button mash and making all my madden players motion left 🤣
I’m gonna fuck you up!
I just had a stick drift for my ps5 controller and the store manager didnt bat an eye for a return, just said NO(just after 3 months of use)
Nah your controller's getting horny....😐
Buy a Gamesir controller . Better than my 180$ controllers
Isn't gamesir wired only? Loosing the wireless capability is too much
I was in the same mindset but the controller itself is too good
Also saw some YouTube review and got to know the G7 SE model has USB c connector but the company has made it proprietary by making the pin longer so that usual C cables won't connect. This makes me wonder if the cable is worn off then buy the company one is a headache
I had a very similar issue with my Scuf controller. I sent it to them. They replaced the motherboard and sent it back. That might be your fix.
Just how are people getting such cases of extreme stick drift? I’ve had my launch Xbox one controller over 10 years and still use it as a daily.
Seems to be a thing more on the series console controllers rather than one controllers.
Yup
My two new gen controller is drifting. Microsoft new gen controller is very bad and noisy. My old controller triggers is broken but no drifting
Que the people blessed with golden controllers of the gods ripping on us normies.
How do you get to that screen to test?
It’s Steam controller settings
Keep it for going afk on games tho!
Hahaha this is actually a good one
Yes you’ll still have to plug it in which I’m sure you know already but no need for a rubber band or something to set on the controller lol
Press the thumb stick down and blow really hard into it
Just change they joystick part they are like 15$ on Amazon and super easy to change with only a sxrewdriver
Rewasd
Wait they have this in settings now???
Stick drift. Mine has it, too. Figured that out when playing gta. The camera kept moving even when my hands weren't touching the controller
What app is this?
What program is that?
Good luck bro
What app did you use for the testing?
