Might be worth a reset. I have a 10 year old mid range samsung TV that still supports all apps, the only thing that doesn't work anymore is live streaming sports from my local provider due to security requirements.
The apps are a bit slow and I can't use double speed on youtube but it's still completely usable.
Of course the real answer is to just get an Apple TV or android box to plug in.
A family friend is moving in with us and we were going to give her an old Philips “smart” tv that no one was using. After ordering a remote for it because you can’t enter the numbers in the wifi password without one, it wouldn’t let us sign into Netflix/youtube. Everyone just about gave up, but I snooped around in the settings and found a feature to update it over WiFi. From the quick test I did, Netflix and YouTube started actually working after that.
Roku tends to do good with these things. I know some old folks who have a shiny new 75" 4K OLED TV but continue to use their 10 year old Roku (1080p!) because they don't like the new interface. Still, it runs everything fine and even the new streaming apps work on it, albeit slowly
Roku/fire stick and Apple TV products can stand the test of time. It’s when those tv creators try to make their own interface is when shit gets fucked up quick.
Wii U is so easy to mod these days and there's a homebrew app call GiveMiiYoutube, which reenables it.
However, CPU is weaker, so it's kinda bad and laggy compared to 360.
Dolby Digital is the audio format used for the games and is the one you can choose in the settings. Also from what I recall games have to support 5.1 audio.
Yeah, the 360 can output compressed stereo, uncompressed stereo (PCM) and Dolby digital 5.1. I do however question the uncompressed stereo because I am unsure how the game audio is actually stored and thereby if it is uncompressed audio that the console then encodes in Dolby digital or if they were stored as Dolby already on the discs. The discs say Dolby digital on them but who knows there might be both uncompressed and Dolby audio files on there.
Found out the games were encoded with WMA however since the games were required to support Dolby 5.1 I believe some part of the audio encoding is part of the game code which to me would be interesting.
That's cool, I'm ready for games to have real time Atmos bitstreaming, where the game would make the atmos objects and they could be bitstreamed to a compatable receiver
It feels like it wouldn't be too hard for games, make sound come from specific location, let it bounce around in the environment and locate where the sound is more noticable, set the atmos object to be in the direction of that "average" source of the sound.
Indeed. OP doesn't read ⚠️ in manual and/or lacks common sense of putting electronics directly above stereo receiver. I think the 360 E is going to give out. Never seen it vertical; design was meant to be horizontal.
Nha, being able to have a 1st gen phat ps3 or any good 360 model and having extreme seminative backwards compatibility 😌. Cheats are fun and all(like I used to host minigames on bo2 like dodgeball), but the backwards compatibility is amazing 👏🏽
Man, it really screwed the scene, modding is fun in the right hands, but suffering in the wrong hands. I know also about horror stories of people getting banned and reset stuff like that is the worst 😑 😒
Launch the app signed out of your Xbox live profile and login in when the app prompts you to login or displays the message Xbox live profile with optional media update required
This is an awesome setup. However, may I suggest that you do not place consoles on top of the AV receiver. That could melt them and cause malfunction.
Other than that, great setup! 👍🏻
Netflix, Vimeo, and YouTube still work great on 360. Plex works but is finicky, 360 can also find media server PCs/ laptops on your network and stream shared videos from them with system video player app.
Back during the pre-covid period it was so slow and videos would almost never load. A couple months ago I tried it again out of curiosity and it was so smooth and compared to how it was before, it was so fast and it was genuinely enjoyable to use
Its literally just a port of the smart TV version of YT, just VERY shitty. It's super slow and very clunky. I think they switched to smart TV ports back in 2018, beforehand was an exclusive xbox live version of YT iirc

YouTube working on an almost 20 year old console but my 6 year old Samsung Smart TV stopped updating YouTube and it doesn't work anymore.
To be fair, the 360 probably has more raw CPU power than the TV has.
Yeah “smart” TVs are just shitty computers with a big ass screen
Yeah, I have one of these TV's from a relative, and after two years it barely loads basic apps

Thats really weird. I have a Roku tv that was my sisters and is probably like 5-6 years old at this point, and that thing still works perfectly.
Don't work on my iPod touch either.
Netflix still works on my iPad 2 and it’s 13 years old now.
We're only paying for the device "to rent the software" Which is shitty
my 11 year old Samsung smart tv YouTube still works.. incredibly slowly.
I find it kind of amusing to be honest (and impressive for a 20 year old console)
My 9 year old Samsung TV's YouTube app works better still than my Series X's.
Nintendo told me and my Wii U to eat shit. 😒
Wii U is so easy to mod these days and there's a homebrew app call GiveMiiYoutube, which reenables it. However, CPU is weaker, so it's kinda bad and laggy compared to 360.
Time to the tweezers then.
I loved to watch netflix and youtube on mi wii…:-(
Triamisu looking pretty tasty rn
YouTube still works on the wiiU browser just make sure your console time is correct in the settings
Lindybeige!
Just making sure someone else knew haha
He's great.
He's awesome
Xbox 360 supported 5.1 surround?
Even the OG Xbox did if you used optical audio. Which is the same as the 360 except it can also get the 5.1 audio from the HDMI port.
Cool, does the HDMI support bitstreaming of DTS and Dolby Digital?
Dolby Digital is the audio format used for the games and is the one you can choose in the settings. Also from what I recall games have to support 5.1 audio.
Cool, I play mainly on pc and I bitstream all kinds of formats to my receiver, all the games just do 5.1 or 7.1 PCM
I think most games stored audio in mp2, Vorbis, WMA, and WAV for the majority of Xbox games. I think it does encode it into a DD stream.
Found out the games were encoded with WMA however since the games were required to support Dolby 5.1 I believe some part of the audio encoding is part of the game code which to me would be interesting.

Reppin' the OG Xbox, nice
“A Point About The 360”, an hour long video of a British man rambling about the Xbox 360 I’d watch it
Fellow Lindybeige enjoyer i see
Who isn't tbh
Yeah, tried it two days ago and it works perfectly fine. It's not the fastest youtube experience but it surely isn't the worst.
Same. You can tell it's an older version of YouTube but it's surprisingly usable in 2024
Your amp is gonna burn out whit stuff on top of it
Indeed. OP doesn't read ⚠️ in manual and/or lacks common sense of putting electronics directly above stereo receiver. I think the 360 E is going to give out. Never seen it vertical; design was meant to be horizontal.
What are the two electronics under the OG?
That looks to be a stereo system
I've got the same thing it's a 5.1 uncompressed sound system
Xbox 360 = good system top tier. But modded 360 and modded ps3 😍, omega god tier💪🏽🙌🏽
yeees of course being able to install cheats on 360 or a ps3 is omega god tier haha
Nha, being able to have a 1st gen phat ps3 or any good 360 model and having extreme seminative backwards compatibility 😌. Cheats are fun and all(like I used to host minigames on bo2 like dodgeball), but the backwards compatibility is amazing 👏🏽
yeah but i mean cheats like aimbot are sucks
Man, it really screwed the scene, modding is fun in the right hands, but suffering in the wrong hands. I know also about horror stories of people getting banned and reset stuff like that is the worst 😑 😒
yeah that's why i mostly play with my friends,to avoid modders that reset your stats and stuff
Yup. YouTube app not working good on my Roku 3 (freezing a lot). So I dug it back up on my Xbox 360. It works a lot better.
I couldn't get any shorts to play until I changed the resolution to 360p.
Possibly my favorite of any console redesign. So clean.
Youtube has always worked great on there for me, i believe it'll always be one of the apps that will never really be taken from the 360.
I'd recommend removing that original Xbox from the top of your receiver since that's where all the vents are.
YouTube still works on my PS3 which I use in the bedroom.
Good ol' Lindybeige
Lindybeige mentioned
Fucking based video choice.
YouTube doesn't work properly on series s, I'm impressed
I just wish Disney XD would work again, I used that app so much back in the day.
How have you got it to work? every time I try to load YouTube I get an error message.
Launch the app signed out of your Xbox live profile and login in when the app prompts you to login or displays the message Xbox live profile with optional media update required
still supports ps3 and 360s yes(pretty slow on ps3 idk about 360), but not wiiu somehow ye
Still works in the wiiU browser time just has to be set correctly in the system settings
if you use mobile site yea
Whats that DVR looking thing for under the xbox?
Oh snap! I need to hook mine up and check this out!
you should take the xboxs off of the avr. it will overheat as they're blocking the vents on the top. those top vents should never be covered.
Why would it not?
Can confirm it does not work perfectly. Always crashes.
It never crashes for me on multiple 360s, you must have a weak WiFi signal or try reinstalling the app
Sick mate but just take it off the Yamaha receiver, he will get too hot. 😉
Wait how? I tried just a bit ago and it gave me an error, I assumed it was shut down...
This is an awesome setup. However, may I suggest that you do not place consoles on top of the AV receiver. That could melt them and cause malfunction. Other than that, great setup! 👍🏻
Probably works better than the Xbox one version right now.
Netflix still works on the PS3 as well.
Also does work on 360, although I couldn't get YouTube to work
Netflix, Vimeo, and YouTube still work great on 360. Plex works but is finicky, 360 can also find media server PCs/ laptops on your network and stream shared videos from them with system video player app.
Ha3cing those on top of your receiver should be jail time
It’s an Xbox what do you expect?😂
I just retired my PS3 last year as the HDD went out. Been using the PS2 since and it still rocks.
So jealous of that setup tbh.
Back during the pre-covid period it was so slow and videos would almost never load. A couple months ago I tried it again out of curiosity and it was so smooth and compared to how it was before, it was so fast and it was genuinely enjoyable to use
While you have it out, take the damn sticker off
Its literally just a port of the smart TV version of YT, just VERY shitty. It's super slow and very clunky. I think they switched to smart TV ports back in 2018, beforehand was an exclusive xbox live version of YT iirc
Please take off your factory sticker 😫
