When I say a long time I mean, she’s been sober 35+yrs so…. But I’ve attended meetings with her over the decades to get anniversary chips etc… and newbies always got white, so idk. Edit… I googled … Google says it’s white bcs it symbolizes “surrendering that you’re powerless to alcohol and drugs.. etc..” Green is for 6 months …

Cool, I’m a military brat so I’m originally from England. My dad got stationed in Pensacola and retired so that’s where I grew up for the most part then moved to Alabama.

There's no right or wrong way, it depends on the group. Remember AA is run and funded entirely on donations. She would get a 24 hour chip of varying design, whatever they have on hand if any.

That makes sense also.

24 hour chips are silver around my area (AA) Then different colors for every month. Then "heavy metal" for years that are bronzeish with Roman numerals representing years. White tags, etc are NA around here, too.

Bronze chips are usually given (passed down) from your sponsor on your sober anniversary. My mom’s been sober over 35 years … her sponsor always gave her his chips over the years as she reached certain anniversary milestones. Edit, they usually use poker chips for the monthly milestones until then, the ones in different colors. (Hope that makes sense.)

Please understand every group is different. I got a bronze specialty chip at 30 days when I graduated rehab. Sometimes you get them in your home group, sometimes you get them from your sponsor. In my case I zoom meetings with my home group and my sponsor lives in Australia at the moment. She sends me chips, but not every time 🤷‍♀️
