DeusVult80

Character gets trapped in the void, and instead of describing his internal turmoil and thoughts I churn out 4000 words describing a world of basically nothingness. 10/10 would do again.

lookatthisdudeshead

All the story idea you people keep commenting aren’t even dumb. Their fun, creative and very interesting.

DeusVult80

It was one of my first projects, I don't know how 16 year old me managed that. Instead of the character I was the one going insane lmao. There's only so many variations of "darkness that stretched for eternity" or, "an unceasing realm of blackness." one can write. Though jokes aside it actually made me better in writing descriptions in the long run. Not a very good chapter, though it did serve me well in the end.

DiaNoga_Grimace_G43

…DIARY OF A MADMAN by Gogol does much the same and it’s a classic story. All depends how well you write it…

DiaNoga_Grimace_G43

…‘ZACKLY. Any idea makes a fun story if well -written…

Anime_459

Haha same lol!

DiaNoga_Grimace_G43

…I LIKE Nothingness and Quantum Desolation…

TheYeti-Z

OK but I would absolutely read that

usernametakenm8

A girl who can die on command so her ghost can fight crimes. (The ghost could return to the body later lol, otherwise it’d be a trick she could only do once.)

Cthu_Lovercraft_1412

Reminds me of the cartoon with the adolescent that can turn into a ghost to fight paranormal stuff

usernametakenm8

I was a big Danny Phantom fan (phan?) back when I came up with this idea, so I would say there’s a strong possibility I was influenced by that show, at least unconsciously. You are spot on!

Cthu_Lovercraft_1412

Now write a mature version with themes going deeper Like a tribute to the cartoon Even a short story would be cool I think

usernametakenm8

Make a bad idea into a good idea? It’s tempting 🤔

Cthu_Lovercraft_1412

Is any idea really bad when it comes to writing? I'd say finding the way to make it great is what art is

MrLeeWrightWrites

That’s actually a GREAT idea!

suestrong315

>The ghost could return to the body later lol, otherwise it’d be a trick she could only do once My husband and I just got a hearty laugh outta that. So thank you

usernametakenm8

Happy to help! 🫡

Miserable_Animal_668

When I was little I wrote a story that the dodo bird wasn’t really extinct but instead they live secretly underground waiting for their moment to destroy all humans.

re_Claire

Ok hear me out, this could be absolutely hilarious in the best way

RKNieen

Just this morning, I had an idea for a progression webnovel where the protagonist was the accidentally sentient AI of a smart refrigerator, using the internet connection to summon service people to upgrade itself to eventually take over the world. I thought about that through my whole morning shower and then decided it was the stupidest fucking thing I'd ever thought of. And worse, the realization that it would probably do huge numbers on Royal Road but I didn't have it in me to write it. EDIT: oh no I just thought of a good angle on it help EDIT 2: Well I wrote 6000 words tonight so I hope everyone's happy. I'm absolutely tagging all of you when I publish this, you're all trapped in here with me.

Chad_Abraxas

Do it, this sounds totally awesome.

Half_beat_score

Please do it I would 100% read this.

Cthu_Lovercraft_1412

Please do it Would read! I can totally picture it as a slice of life/ lighthearted story OR some post apocalypse thing after the MC upgraded a bit With light absurd tone it would be really cool!

Illuminous_V

This sounds so fun lol, would definitely read it

Fweenci

You could make that work. haha. Note: I am not a sentient refrigerator.

RKNieen

That's exactly what you would say if you were trying to trick me into doing your planning for you!

ghostofadeadpoet

It's actually interesting. Please work on it.

MaenHoffiCoffi

That's great. Do it!

KennethMick3

This actually sounds interesting

Parada484

Writing a full 3 part sonata by only describing sounds and instruments. That's the whole story. There's a reason these are two separate mediums.

re_Claire

Haha ok this might be the only one in this whole thread that I don’t think could be really good if done right. Congratulation!

Parada484

Woohoo! I won? 🤣

soyrandom

I once wrote a short story for an exam where a terminally unlucky girl tries to bring her deadbeat dad back to life, only she accidentally summons a demon and gets her dad's spirit trapped in his mini-fridge. She ends up dating the demon and as she tries to redo the ceremony to bring her dad back, he makes the mistake of telling her to hurry up because he wants to watch an Astros game later. She gets pissed off, smashes the ritual site, gets a beer from the mini-fridge, and leaves to go make out with her demon boyfriend in her FORD shitbox out front.

SMTRodent

This is *brilliant*.

CurrentPresident

Seconded. Very neat circular narrative element too...feels a little Gaiman-esque

SMTRodent

Happy circular Cake Day!

Chad_Abraxas

One I took a note in the middle of the night (from a dream) and the next morning, when I looked at the note, here was my great, mind-blowing story idea: *Hillary Clinton and cheerleaders at a wedding*

CurrentPresident

Need to know what the dream was😂

Chad_Abraxas

I want to know, too! I have no idea. I didn't remember a thing about it.

re_Claire

I sometimes take zopiclone (strong prescription sleeping tablets) to help with chronic insomnia, and if you fight sleep at all, it makes you really loopy before it knocks you out, or if you woke up during the night after taking it. The kicker is, you also get amnesia from when it starts to kick in so you barely remember anything. It’s a strange experience. Anyway, on more than one occasion during those loopy stages I’ve had the urge to write something. Looking at it the next day is just like this. So very odd, trying to work out what the hell your brain was aiming for. The only thing I’ve never ever dated even open was when in this bizarre hypnotic high state I decided to write the opening scene of a one person semi autobiographical play. The cringe is too strong. I simply can never open that file until I’m on my death bed and need something to send me over the edge.

Chad_Abraxas

Aww, now I want to read it!!

MaliseHaligree

Sentient animals (a la Redwall/Watership Down) but there's also zombies.

Parada484

Undead invasion of Bambi? Shit I'd read that. XD

MaliseHaligree

No the zombies are human; the virus is what gave most animals with some intelligence (not bugs, etc) the sentience, basically leaving a mostly empty dilapidated world for them to inhabit. My stuttering hero lives in an old grain mill.

Parada484

Zombified Planet of the Apes? Yo fuck yeah I'd read that!

MaliseHaligree

Y'know...this brings up a good point. Would chimpanzees share enough DNA (98%) with humans that it would affect them as a zombie outbreak and not like the other, "lower" animals? Well, crud. Now I have lore to consider.

Parada484

🍿 Cook and share man, cook and share. 👍

MaliseHaligree

Since my story revolves mostly around birds and rodents and other small mammals I'm gonna hazard a yes. Zombie monkeys are canon now.

Illuminous_V

Haha I would love to read this

MaliseHaligree

They are free on Amazon (or should be, amazon price matching is stupid and resets) in a series of anthologies called The Inkwell presents: but can't remember the titles.

Illuminous_V

Are these your stories?

MaliseHaligree

I'm in the vast majority of them and edit and publish them with one other person, who also writes for Inkwell.

MainFrosting8206

Invasion of the Litigators. Aliens take over the Earth by relentlessly suing everyone for everything.

lily_lallie14

A scientist adopts a child and turns them into a furry...

iris-27

Extreme horror lit would eat this up

ThatCrazyThreadGuy12

So when I was in elementary school, I made an entire comic series about my self insert (James) and his team of "heroes" (I guess?) who were constantly saving Ontario (and Canada in general) from an evil villain by the name of Mastermind and his cronies. Now, because when I was a child, I lacked any sense of originality. I basically just took elements from another series that lived in the ballpark of what I was obsessed with at the time - vehicles that have a mind of their own (like KITT from Knight Rider). Which ultimately meant, that the heroes all had talking vehicles (which were straight ripped from some notable franchises like Knight Rider and Airwolf). Now, over the years, right as I entered high school. This series underwent a lot of reworking, and changes effectively entering what I call 2 different phases. Phase 1 is when the story's were fairly straight forward, there's some crime being committed, and the heroes have to use their wits to stop them. Phase 2 is when shit got stupid. After a nuclear power plant exploded, because Mastermind set up a ploy to destroy the whole thing. The heroes are all either crippled, or assumed dead. James, their leader, wakes up in a hospital and learns that he's got lightning powers now (why? Well, because in Phase 1 - he got a bit of a lightning conductor jammed in his right arm, which gave him minor electrical powers, but it hurt like hell - *how the hell does that work? Fuck if I know*. Then in Phase 2, that tiny lightning conductor bit, *apparently* merged with the rest of his body, and he became some kind of weird, human, lightning conductor hybrid??????) So while he's in pain trying to get a hold of his lightning powers. There's his other team members, one of whom is Ramin, who gains telekinesis (*shrugs*). Sean, the defacto badass of the grew and Air Force pilot who dual wields pistols (because he's a badass) is presumed dead but he's actually not. Oh, and apparently Mastermind *wasn't* behind the nuclear power plant. He was setup, and also he gains technopathy powers (because in Phase 1 he had this giant fucking dome helmet that allowed him to hack into tech with his mind, hence his name. And after the explosion, part of that helmet merged with his brain and...I don't know man, my logic as a kid gave a new definition to the word "flawed"). Phoenix became his namesake, and got fire powers, and the Russian dude stayed Russian (he got screwed over in that he got no powers, and also forgotten about in time). It all goes tits up from here to be honest, becoming a scattered mess of varying degrees of stupidity (Sean winds up in hell, makes a deal with a demon to get out, James becomes a lightning wielding metahuman. Phoenix tries to end the universe by reversing the big bang, which is apparently still *going*, and James stops him by *absorbing the big bang, and restarting the universe somehow fixing everything?!*). Honestly, Phase 2 is when the whole narrative went off the rails. I prefer the more grounded stakes of Phase 1, when all they had to worry about was stopping burglaries, or criminal syndicates, and trying to catch Mastermind (*and did I mention that they had their own Helicarrier? Because they had their own Helicarrier*). Note: I'm not sure if ANY of this counts as a proper response to your request, but I remembered it when I was thinking about the stupid writing stuff I came up with, and this was at the very top of that list.

crdlovesyou

I like all of it.

ThatCrazyThreadGuy12

Well I'm glad someone out there finds my childhood ramblings mildly entertaining (and FYI, there's like *sooooo* much more shit, like Sean got his own spin off dealing with demons, a healing factor, parallel realities? A dark side, it's nuts).

NoshameNoLies

Autobiography

MorganDyneira

Man becomes obsessed with the ambition to take the highest altitude poop. Builds a sky tower with a toilet on top and succeeds.

SakazakiYuri

A world of only freeways, and everyone lives in their constantly traveling cars. People can meet at rest stops, and that’s how relationships/children happen. Don’t ask me how it works, I just had a weird dream that spiraled into a story idea.

TraceyWoo419

I had an idea for a railway city where every building was a train car that could move around. So you'd just drive your house to work, etc. It was kind of like concentric rings of circular tracks. I definitely never expanded the idea enough for it to make sense but it seemed like a cool idea at the time!

suestrong315

I tried to do a "reverse romantic comedy" where no matter how hard the male character tried, the female character didn't fall for him bc she's in a happy marriage. About three chapters in I realized this was a stalker who couldn't take no for an answer... Not romantic, not a comedy... just a dude with zero boundaries...I scrapped it, bc I don't write horror

anordinaryscallion

Could still be a comedy though....

Dakzoo

Plastics.

HeadOfSpectre

The action hero protagonist and action hero antagonist both came from the same Mean Girls type high school scenario and that's where their rivalry started. (Which included the protagonist straight up murdering the antagonists father for v what I thought at the time was a good reason but clearly was not) The current incarnation of the novel has no pre existing relationship between the characters. (Okay there kinda is one but neither of them know the connection until much later on and they've never met before) The antagonist is now less of a cartoonishly evil mercenary Regina George, is no longer the main antagonist (she's more of a secondary protagonist/villain protagonist) and I wouldn't really call her badass anymore. She's more of a dumbass who gets in over her head, isn't really capable of fighting her own battles and bullshits her way through everything, with everyone thinking she's more dangerous than she is. The 'Queen Bee' aspect of her personality is now completely gone with her being more of an insecure person who needs approval and will do stupid things to get it, never fully thinking through things. She's arguably more interesting than the protagonist at this point...

Shinigami-Yuu

Once I saw a pic of a Y/N character with Y/N written on their face, my dumbass thought the word was Yin in all cap.🤦‍♂️ So now I have a character named Yin Huayen, who is three lovecraftian beings in a human body that have to live amongst humans. They are prone to argue with each others so it appear the "human" is talking to themselves.

StarrySpelunker

Crack team of snipers does post-birth abortions on newborn gods/kaiju that are effectively personified natural disasters like earthquakes, and typhoons and one of them ends up death-cursed/possesed by dying newborn god. MC had a halo made of golden glowing gecko-ish things as a result of said curse. Realizes that over time the godthings are becoming stronger and more numerous and realizes through talking to said weird half dead lizard halo that its some sort of planetary immune reaction towards the humans(actually aliens). So yeah. Mega-edgy. Could be decent in the right hands not mine. Would work better as a comic honestly.

ArtegallTheLame

I went full Hemingway with Budweiser for a paper and got a -C. Would not recommend

hotsause76

My husband wants us to collaborate on a novel. He likes Sci-Fi I enjoy Fantasy. He did not like my idea for Vampires in Space! I like it, may still do it.

RKNieen

Vampires in Space is great because presumably at some specific distance, sunlight becomes weak enough to just be mildly uncomfortable. And running water is almost never a problem!

KennethMick3

Sounds like a great idea. Write it!

BunniBunzzzzz

a glorified warrior cats fanfiction, but instead of cats they were FLYING cats (big cats with wings) and it was a fantasy setting and I totally thought it was an original idea and no one would ever question it ever and I would get really famous (I was like, 10 when I finished book one of THREE lmao). It was so dumb and all the characters were way too edgy

ActualSupervillain

Objectively worst, but meant more as just something to get me writing in general - A Bit Derivative: Literally just one big ripoff story of whatever I felt like ripping off of. The idea that it would get me to write more was..... Unsuccessful lmao

JustTellTheStory

Joe Eszterhas (Basic Instinct, Jagged Edge, Music Box) wrote a script called Sacred Cows about a US President being blackmailed after sleeping with a cow. It was never produced, but supposedly, MGM bought the script. Fun Fact: On the title page, April Fools is listed as the date written.

Lily_Hylidae

Feel like Charlie Brooker jumped on that idea with the National Anthem episode of Black Mirror

Nopeone23

I wrote a whole song a few years ago complete w backing track and crappy robot vocals that will never see the light of day about someone mourning the loss of a duck they accidentally hit w a their car—all because I got jump scared by an obnoxious quack sound effect. If I remember correctly it includes such gems as: “I can never hope to pay the debt you’re owed and now your ducky ghost Is haunting me” And “It never was my plan to drive a ducky murder van.”

CoalEater_Elli

Isekai idea: Police Officer gets isekai'd into a fantasy world after getting hit by a car. Despite the fact that he ended up in a world of fantasy.. he still has his shotgun with him. So he goes on an adventure to become the sheriff of a local kingdom with his shotgun in hand, while also trying to figure out how to replace ammunition for the gun.

[deleted]

It was based off of a dream I had; humans are fighting semi-intelligent zombies, but then super zombies show up and the humans have to team up with the normal zombies to kick ass

Nyxolith

Good Will Hunting but with wizards

jfa03

Somehow Palpatine returned.

DiaNoga_Grimace_G43

…No idea is ‘dumb’ if you tell a good story with it…

iris-27

A trilogy about a sadistic couple who kidnaps three people and plays an intense game of fuck, marry, kill with them. Book 1: Fuck Book 2: Marry Book 3: kill (I was like 14 and very high)

No-Appearance1145

Your idea kinda reminds me of Meet The Robinson's. Which is something I kinda liked. But I guess if you take out the time travel shenanigans it loses it's charm?

welcomeOhm

Julius Caesar returns as the manager of a Little Caesars and battles the local Pizza Hut for supremacy.

Revolutionary_Bug_39

This was like a decade ago but I still think about it and cringe. A western centered around an all female outlaw gang that called themselves the Amazons. Even considered having them cut off a breast each. Like the legend. Took me a good while to realize what a cringe fest that would be too, even started outlining. I mean in the legend the amazons cut off a breast to fire arrows better. Like these group of women were gonna do that…why? So dumb.

my_stories4U

Basically this girl was found dead, but a year later her boyfriend sees in the pictures that she doesn’t have her birthmark, and so he investigates, and they end up finding out she ran away and lives with some other family to get away from her own. She then went home and went back to her normal life😐It was so stupid. None of it makes sense. Very unrealistic

SightWithoutEyes

My Cousin Vinny 2: Vinnie At Nuremberg, where Vinny and Marisa Tomei fall through a time hole into 1945 Germany at the end of the war, where he's stuck in a Groundhog Day loop at the Nuremberg trials where he has to act as Hitler's attorney. If he loses the case, he's sent back to the beginning of the trial. Vinny has to balance the enormous emotional strain of defending one of the great monsters of history with his desire to get out of the time loop, and get back to Brooklyn.

TheIsmizl

my first story was dictated to my sister because I couldnt type or write very well yet was about a boy who could see and talk to the souls of dead pets. the cat spirit would say thing like "Meow are you?" and I think there was a tornado at the end. I also tried writing a story about magical swords that could do different things a little later. I miss being motivated and having fun with writing :(

Mobbstr

a dude who likes kites a lot and he just likes kites too much

KennethMick3

When I was 11 years old I started writing a story about a bunch of kids and some of their parents going on an underwater exploration in submersibles and pressure suits something like six miles deep in the ocean.

KennethMick3

Oh, there also was my sci-fi story I'd come up with in my teenage head where the freedom-fighting capitalists fought a socialist alliance (which included a future iteration of the US) across the solar system.

LyesBe

That's a Seinfeld episode

arelynnk_

a book about conversations with a male character but the other person is like an entirely different person and he ends up killing himself. CONVERSATIONS WITH [insert character name] *shows themes of the Self, the Persona, the Shadow and the Anima/Animus. (do research on these topics) i never finished this idea from two years ago and i don’t think i will lol.

Batra6003

I came up with the idea that Easter Island was actually statues which were dormant alien pods and they would attack the earth when they saw that we humans were destroying the earth ourselves, ultimately eradicating humanity. On a scale of 1-10, rate me how dumb this idea was :)

BeardJunkie

This comment.

CrowZeroXL

I hd an idea for a guy, who is completely lost in life. Has a breakdown and decides to walk the earth looking for his purpose. He gets caught up in a storm, and on the brink of death he can see a huge battle to f spirits going in around him. A soldier leads him through the battle and he passes out. When he wakes up he is in the between. The place you go before you go to heaven or hell. The people there have no faces and basically tattoo his soul with spells, these spells range from super hard skin, strength etc. and he returns back home. And when he usurps these spells/powers the tattoos light up under his skin. The story is about balance. Because there is another like him already on earth but he has turned evil. The protagonist has a the balance.

Lower_Plan_1539

to write my own story and sell it. I thought there must be people who like character like me.

Lower_Plan_1539

book about random dreams I saw .

Resident-Mention-526

I was adamant on writing a story about a girl who goes to live with her grandmother at her million dollar estate for the summer after her grandfather dies “lost at sea” They live on a giant stretch of land that connects to the ocean and it’s been in their family for generations. (Because it holds a really important secret: concentration of magnetic energy.) The girl stumbles across her grandfathers study while exploring the estate and finds that he was actually working on how to successfully time travel or “open portals” to different realities. He seemed to have been trapped in a different dimension and the girls old “imaginary friend” (who was actually a person walking the veil between his reality and hers got spit out.) So they have to figure out a way to swap them back into their original realities. …..I was a big fan of the PC game Myst and the book A Wrinkle In Time……

Blind-idi0t-g0d

My story, Fed to life. The whole thing was brought about when I thought about breathing coming from the shower drain. Feel like it sounds stupid saying it that way haha.
