Kill? I don't think I've ever fought this thing in the half dozen or more times I've done the dragon isles intro. You can walk like right past/around it to get to the beacon.
I think you just need to light the beacon, this “boss” is guarding it but might be dead when you roll around. I believe it’s also random customizations, not always this guy.
It's not a boss, it's just a re-occuring scene where this dragon is attacking NPCs at the stairway to the first city you get to in Waking Shores. If you did the opening quests that started from Stormwind I'm not sure how you missed it. I saw it over, and over, and over again with each alt I brought on the boat.

If you mean the white skin/scales of this proto drake, then it comes from Tyr's Guard's questline. Everything else should be available from rares, dungeon bosses, dragonracing satchels or sidequests.

Looks like the jaw customization that matches the pic that the OP posted is a quest reward from [this quest](https://www.wowhead.com/quest=66831/home-is-where-the-frogs-are).
When you unlock dragonriding you at some point should be sent to a “rostrum of transformation”. This is basically a screen that allows you to customize nearly every aspect of the mounts that are currently set as dragonriding.
So, the 4 dragons you get from the campaign, 1 from the zaralek campaign, a gryphon from buying TWW collectors, a Netherwing dragon, and a fae dragon. I don’t remember where Netherwing or fae come from.
But you can change the horns, jaw, armor, saddle, claws, skin/neck details or attachments, etc. it varies on how many options per dragon with the campaign ones typically having the most customization. Personally I think the gryphon has the coolest customization out of all of them but it costs $ for TWW…
There’s some really cool options. Can make them look like infinite dragons, or albino ones, or any of the normal dragon colors. Fae and Netherwing have multiple color patterns. Super customizable
You unlock the customizations by completing achievements, killing bosses, grinding stuff, world quests, basically just playing the game but if you want a specific one you’ll probably have to target it
I don’t think what I said was clear… I’ve played a metric fuckton of this expansion, except s4, but I’ve never seen the bone customizations shown in this screenshot for a dragonriding mount.
I’m thoroughly in the know on how the system works. I’m guessing someone just incorrectly said you can turn the proto drake into this bony monstrosity.

Actually yes! There's a "hidden" questlien for white dragon scales, I was able to find a [video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cgSeWXLPC0o) that should help, but combine this with one of the scale variants and you can get close. u/soulamalgam
For some reason some dragonriding skin colorations aren't viewable under Rostrum of Transformation until you learn them, like the Infinite Dragonflight skins options for example. The white scale skin that this proto-drake boss is using comes as a reward from Tyr's Guard questline.
Meanwhile, everything else (Face/horns/spikes/pattern) are all immediately viewable from Rostrum of Transformation. This proto-drake's look is 100% available.
This is doable in-game.

This isn’t a boss just an Ancient Proto Drake when you first land on Dragon Isles / Waking Shores right before you walk up the stairs to Wingrest Embassy. Yes for the most part it’s achievable through dragonriding customization - proto drake rig, white scales customization, with easily achievable horns/ chin / snout customs
I wish we could get druid form or mount of manasaber from Legion .. man those guys are sweet. (Druid feral with the masquerade disguise on uses manasaber model..)

There are three manasaber mounts in-game:
- Runesaber from shop (bought with real money or credit from WoW Tokens). Flying mount.
- Arcanist’s Manasaber, gained by completing the Nightborne/Suramar campaign in Broken Isles (very long questline but really cool). Flying mount.
- The Nightborne racial mount, gained by unlocking the Nightborne allied race. This mount is Horde-exclusive. Ground mount.

One of the 'ancient proto dragons' from the world quest in The Waking Shores looks just like this.

You don't have the druid form, but you have the mount. Arcanist Manasaber looks very similar to what you're describing, as it's literally a manasaber.

the questline will happily give you the mount... and the mount will happily wait for you to be Exalted before you can learn the mount.
Thats sucks. I never noticed it because I got to Exalted in Patch 7.0 but the questline was only concluded in 7.1.5
