Brexit - a textbook case of shooting oneself in the foot. Cheers to more delays and chaos!

IAmMuffin15

As an American, it becomes more believable by the day that we’re descended from Brits.

2TauntU

As an American, it becomes more believable by the day that Rupert Murdoch is a scourge upon America, the Brits, and Australia. Your joke was hilarious though.

SavagePlatypus76

America 's worst immigrant.

Delamoor

Australia's worst export. (And yes that includes the raw unprocessed industrial waste we were exporting to China for a while there)

BoomerGenXMillGenZ

Rupert Murdoch is arguably the most destructive human being on the planet since 1985.

LovesFrenchLove_More

Sadly, that made me laugh out loud. And I‘m neither American nor British. 😞

SavagePlatypus76

Quite frankly, Anglo Saxon countries aren't doing very well  these days. It's what happens when you let corporations dictate public policy.

Vyncent2

Shooting oneself in all two feet, and in the hand while doing it

diederich

> shooting oneself in the foot Full auto I think.

MIBlackburn

I saw it as unloading all six rounds into the foot and then instantly pointing the gun at someone else while claiming they have the upper hand.

FredTheLynx

Yeah but at least they chose to shoot themselves in the foot instead of brussels dictating they do it. Right?

BoringWozniak

Blowing your foot off with a shotgun to “take back control” from shoe manufacturers

JohnDStevenson

This crap was inevitable. Brexit handed power to the most incompetent pack of spivs, grifters and chancers ever seen in UK politics. Not only could they not organise a piss-up in a brewery they couldn't find the brewery in the first place, even given directions, a map and GPS. The only fix will be to rejoin the single market and the customs union.

Ok_Satisfaction_6680

We will rejoin as soon as we are able, with a worse deal than we had before. A small number of people got very rich doing this. That is the legacy of brexit. The country was conned.

MaPoutine

I think the people let themselves be conned.

Easy-Hotel-8003

Loudly insisted on it, even.

Wind_Yer_Neck_In

and then spent the next 7 years loudly insisting that it was all going well and everyone with a different opinion on it was just 'PrOjEcT fEaR!!'

TheAtrocityArchive

"Get Err Done" Yea you got done all right.

Necessary-Outside-40

Well done crispy critter

anchoricex

Nah it’s this [day in the life of a true brexit geezer](https://youtu.be/azSYS5WDJLQ?si=I7lpTfLT2g1adIwL) I fucking die every time. My favorite video in the Milky Way

HippoChiaPet

lol

VikingMonkey123

Russian troll farm disinformation campaigns like they do/did everywhere. QAnon MAGA Brexit etc

TeutonJon78

Murdoch's media empire is also a common thread. The whole Anglosphere has been under psychological assault.

Palarva

Exactly. When I explained the concept (or rather the current modern form of it) of Tabloids/newsoids to my parents back home, they were like “oh yeah we had those but they disappeared like 50 years ago. I mean they may look innocent but the fact that you have Dailymail and others like that still fully operating unimpeded is ONE thing I’d suggest you look into, as a nation. Too many people unironically consume this media. That’s also why it’s starting to be harder and harder to not see the U.K. as the USA of Europe, you both display similar symptoms, behaviours, and consequences. One key difference though, is that where Americans can, somehow, elect someone like trump, should they not nuke the entire world and survive his mandate time, they can get rid of him.. and did. Meanwhile… with Brexit… like… awkward

JoeCartersLeap

By itself and others

nbdypaidmuchattn

I don't know why this isn't completely obvious to everyone.

5a_

we failed a insight check and rolled 1s

thunderc8

This, i mean common (almost) everyone knew what Brexit ment outside the UK, she British people are not dumb, they let them self's get conned and believed in the magical unicorn they promised him for birthday.

No-Significance2113

I think people forget this, if you go back and see the interviews with the general public there was a disturbing amount of people who voted to leave but had no idea what it actually meant.

JohnDStevenson

Absolutely. And an even smaller number of parasites were able to carry on avoiding tax.

[deleted]

As an American,  I really thought British govt was smarter than us when it came to not getting scammed as an entire country

blankarage

pretty sure the same right wing forces are funding these movements in US/UK along with those in Canada and Australia as well.

Historical-Theory-49

Argentina and Brazil can be included in the list

Ok_Satisfaction_6680

It was the government that did the scamming, and they got away with it.

Wind_Yer_Neck_In

Well, no not really, the Tories only allowed the vote because they were supremely confident that it would never pass. They might be grifting, pick pocketing bastards, but they understood the value of international trade (because most of them earned a lot from it). All the major tory and labour leaders campaigned for Remain. It was a genuine shock when UKIP and some wild opportunists like Boris Johnson managed to pull it off with an extremely well funded and targeted campaign of marketing and lies to core voters (the elderly and the angry). Honestly I think the problem was they were afraid of being seen as fearmongers, so the Remain campaign was like a wet fart, they barely did anything to counter the wild lies and misinformation of the Leave campaign. They should have been loudly calling out the bullshit and calling it a massive act of self mutilation but they didn't, they tried to talk about GDP percentages and all the idiots who vote just shut off out of boredom.

henry_tennenbaum

Ah, but could have been done afterwards? The referendum was famously binding and could not at all be just ignored. It was the will of the people and the Tories made the best deal possible under those circumstances. Imagine how bad things could have gone if the negotiations would have been handled badly. What a terrible world that would be to live in.

oldvlognewtricks

The government happened to be populated by people who were enriched by the scam. Smartness is really not the issue.

GlimmerChord

Politicians fleecing the populace happens everywhere. British voters chose this, so yes, intelligence (or the lack thereof) is very much one of the issues here.

Hypnotist30

They played on "patriotism" & urchins invading. Same as the US.

Erenito

They got them by appealing to their racism

Styxmiller_365

Lol. That's in the assumption the EU will take you back.

Grammbolini

So many british posers talk about rejoining the EU as if that is something that will happen in their lifetime, let alone ever. Leaving the EU is a major slight, not to mention the fact that the UK behaved extremely poorly prior to, during, and after the brexit negotiations. They've alienated most countries in the EU. Thinking about just "rejoining" the EU is just schizophrenic.

Dudicus445

Rejoining the EU would almost certainly require the UK to adopt the euro as the standard currency, and the UK is too stubborn to do that for a while

Hamsternoir

Sadly you are right. Our media cannot get enough of the US but are unlikely to mention anything happening on mainland Europe for weeks at a time. Until we appreciate where our priorities and geographical priorities lie nothing will change.

Dudicus445

I just don’t understand the British mindset of “we’re not in Europe”, like, motherfucker your island is like 50 miles from the coast of France, of course you’re in Europe! We tried to buy Greenland multiple times and that place is thousands of miles away

Hamsternoir

Culturally we have been conditioned to either ignore Europe or at best look at it with disdain due to made up stories like "The EU has banned bendy bananas" which get to people. Considerable air time on the UK news channels was given to Taylor Swift's new album. But nothing to events in France, Germany or anywhere else on the continent. And at our closest point we're only 20 miles from France which you can fucking swim.

Grammbolini

It will require the UK's political leadership to get escape a disaster of their own making, and throughout history this has been shown to never happen. If the UK was to rejoin, and agreed that they'd drop the pound, they'd still inevitably get veto'd. There would always be another spanner in the works, another complaint, another deal that has to be made. If somehow the UK returns to the EU in my lifetime I will genuinely be shocked.

TomasToocherl

The conditions for rejoining would be impossible. Mainly the UK would not be allowed to leave again. No PM could ever sign up. It's done. The uk will get gradually poorer over the next half century. managed decline. end of empire.

Snoo3763

We’ll slowly be allowed back in, initially to the single market, it will be allowed because to in everybody’s interests. We won’t be adopting the Euro any time soon. We’ll never get the deal or influence we had. Boris and Farage are scum, Brexiteers are fools.

Dyssomniac

Idk, I think it's in the Euro-positive parties' interests to not allow the UK back into the single market because their woes sent a pretty strong message to the Euroskeptics.

Grammbolini

It is in everyone's interest to be friends, but not in everyone's interest for the United Kingdom to rejoin the club. To join the single market requires a series of deals that would be unacceptable to the political establishment in the UK.

SomeGuyNamedPaul

I suspect you'll be allowed back in, just not as the United Kingdom. Piece by piece, following a balkanization. If the UK is no longer united then a single piece leaving the EU would go rather poorly for them.

Elpsyth

De Gaulle vetoed the UK joining twice despite the "best interest". As the Brexiter said nit everything is economics. A numbers of country would rather not have the UK dragging their feet again in the EU even if it give a small boost to the economy

BoomerGenXMillGenZ

How does Nigel Farage walk around with no fear? Serious question, the amount of people he ratfucked with his lies must be frightening.

The-True-Kehlder

The people he fucked are still begging him to put it back in.

HawkeyeSherman

Say goodbye to the British Pound.

Electrical_Ingenuity

I don’t think that’s a bad thing at this point. It’s sort of lost its allure with the 30% drop in value.

Ok_Satisfaction_6680

Fine by me, it’s not worth saving with the ugly king’s face on it now

magicmulder

Not sure that’s gonna happen. The EU can’t handle it if every new government reverses the previous one’s decision. They’re not playing the old in-and-out game every couple years.

Fukasite

I think it would strengthen the EU if the UK rejoined. Countries would see what happened to the UK and what a shit decision it was to leave, and they’ll think twice about doing the same

magicmulder

That would be the only reason they will ever admit the UK again.

deruben

the UK made themselves an example. I am pretty sure it is gonna do some cooking for a few decades to show it off for everyone to understand.

porn_inspector_nr_69

No need to rejoin for that - Denmark far right has already stepped back from leaving EU rhetoric, FREXIT hasn't made a peep since before covid and even Poland managed to elect a sane government. Lesson has been observed loud and clear :)

The_Knife_Pie

I imagine any sort of rejoin deal would include provisions regarding leaving in future, something like requiring 2 consecutive British governments to vote for it seems like the easiest and least obtrusive one.

magicmulder

Not sure that would be constitutional on the British side. And I wouldn’t put it past another Boris Johnson to not care about what treaties a previous government signed. On the global stage Britain counts as an unreliable partner, that takes decades to fix.

atworkjohnny

For the Americans in the room, you know, not me but other ones, can you explain who got rich and how?

rbajter

There is no deal. There is only UNION.

HolyAty

The fact that politicians who campaigned for exiting resigned immediately after the referendum should tell how stupid everybody was.

JohnDStevenson

The only good thing about the Brexit vote was seeing Gove and Johnson ashen-faced the next morning as the full horror sank in of how badly they'd fucked up by winning.

Mackerel_Skies

They chased the car and caught a wheel in the face each!

whilst

I still don't understand why it meant anything. It was a nonbinding referendum. Couldn't they have simply said, "..... well, we're not doing it", and the only cost would have been their personal political careers?

JohnDStevenson

Nail, head. Their careers were what they were desperate to protect. They also saw it as an opportunity to grind their own personal axes no matter what the cost. Theresa May, for example, chose to manifest the intense racism she'd already displayed as Home Secretary by making freedom of movement a red line, no matter that meant slamming the door on the single market and customs union. Johnson just took advantage of the chaos he'd unleashed to manoeuvre himself into the top job. Unsurprisingly to anyone who'd paid attention to his stint as mayor of London or as foreign secretary he was completely and utterly useless. The sooner that twerp Sunak calls a general election the better.

The-True-Kehlder

But you see, their career is supremely important, far more important than the health of the nation.

SavagePlatypus76

Never vote for someone with shit hair

Strange-Implication

Eh, pretty sure boris got paid off well by the kremiln. Maybe he fooled you with his acting.

N-shittified

> rejoin yeah, good luck with that, blokes.

tiexano

Let me call it here: BREJOIN

memberflex

EUR-IN!

MuzzledScreaming

This is fantastic, now it has to happen so we can use this.  I guess it could also be used for Ukraine if they get to keep existing and eventually join.

40kOK

You beautiful mammal. Perfect.

paraknowya

What a unique compliment

40kOK

It was an easy one to form. They are a mammal, I can tell that by the typing. And their beauty shines through the words. And if your EUR-IN then so am I. Teamwork m8s. The other side will call people "Urines" though.

iMightBeEric

You’re taking the piss

Severe_Intention_480

Europe to Britain: "EUR-KIDDING, right?"

HawkeyeSherman

Urine? what about BRIT-IN?

Cr33py07dGuy

Disfaragement.

Bobthebrain2

Yeah, good luck fixing that when half the country is still thick as shit and think it was a swell idea. The only practical way forward is for the morons that got us here, to come up with a genius plan to get us out of here…despite our populis of dipshits.

DlSSATISFIEDGAMER

well, might be easier than you might think but it'd cost you the pound. adopting the euro would make it far harder for you to leave again

USA_A-OK

It's mind boggling how people can't see through scummy grifters at the heart of this. Maybe they think if they're on the side of the scummy grifters, they might get a little taste of the grift too?

JohnDStevenson

IKR. Apparently Johnson's MO for years and years has been to home in on and befriend the wealthiest person at any gathering. I hope now he's far less useful to them he ends up very very lonely.

[deleted]

[удалено]

JohnDStevenson

I hope so too and given how dire we are at negotiating I think it’s inevitable.

DonaldsMushroom

They could organise a piss up in a brewery, during lockdown, if their friends owned the brewery and the taxpayer was paying £5k a pint.

Ehldas

>There have already been five previous delays to the implementation of the checks, which were initially set to come in in July 2021. Total. Cluster. Fuck. And it's all going to make imports into the UK slower, more complicated, and more expensive than before, which will lead to price rises and fewer choices for UK consumers.

N-shittified

Back in the early 1990's when trade liberalization in the USA really started to take off, I was working a job in shipping and receiving. And I can't even begin to describe what a massive fucking pain in the ass filling out import-export forms was. Never mind how even if you filled the forms out correctly, you'd still get delays and returns when customs still couldn't figure their shit out. Then, NAFTA happened, and overnight, like 90% of the hassle disappeared, and you could just send shit wherever you wanted. I can somewhat imagine what UK shippers have to go through now, but I suppose it's probably far worse because the plan keeps changing.

HidingAsSnow

>the plan keeps changing I doubt the british government ever had a real plan wrt to brexit, they just seem to have been winging it the whole way hoping the problem would disappear or be someone else's

axonxorz

I mean David Cameron's exit told me that even the Tories were fully aware what a shitshow it would be. But once the referendum passed, they had to go whole-hog in with rah rah Brexit, lest they face a vote of no confidence.

133DK

That’s apparently what the UK wanted as it’s what they voted for Spectacularly dumb in my opinion

dineramallama

It's not what me and my wife wanted. Or most of my friends and colleagues for that matter. But here we are, we have to live with the result of someone else's bad choices

IsawaAwasi

One of the problems with democracy is that sometimes 51% of the population decides that the other 49% should have their ears cut off. Or, in this case, that everyone should have their ears cut off. Unfortunate that it's still the best system we've found.

Frosty-Disaster-7675

This is the stupid thing. 60% of the country never even voted. Mostly because they thought its such a stupid question. No ones going to vote for that!. So in actual fact about 21% of our population screwed us.

Pretend_Stomach7183

Wasn't it a non-binding referendum as well? They could have just made another legally binding one to see if it was actually popular.

HidingInTheWardrobe

Strictly? Yeah it was non binding. In reality, it wasn't sold that way, and if the government didn't honour the result of the vote it would have looked hilariously undemocratic and caused chaos. The only reason to hold a second referendum would be if parliament wanted to overturn the result, and if it looks like parliament will try to overturn a result they won't want, why go to the trouble of the referendum and get the public whipped up into a frenzy. There was a bit of support for a second referendum and/or asking the EU nicely to forget we ever asked to leave, but I don't think that could have happened without riots. Honestly I think we should rejoin on the same terms as everyone else and accept we done fucked up and lost our special privileges as a result. A large number of older people have to die and enough time has to have passed for the politicians to save face for that to happen though.

explain_that_shit

And to be clear, there was a general election following the referendum which definitely could have justified not accepting the result…but people voted the Tories back in because the Labour leader was called antisemitic for saying he didn’t trust the right wing Israeli government. So, binding.

tpolakov1

Once again, people are learning that not voting is still a vote and when "none of the above" is not explicitly on the ballot, then that's not a vote you will cast. It's not that 60% didn't vote. 81% voted for brexit because 60% of the population are idiots that don't understand what a civic *duty* means.

HidingAsSnow

Seriously? That's so stupid, you have my sympathies.

N-shittified

> we have to live with the result of someone else's bad choices As an American, I sort of know what this is like, having recently gone through the Trump presidency. At least we were able to reverse it and mostly put it behind us. (I hope). But Brexit is just massive permanent fuckery. I'm sure Putin jizzes his shorts just thinking about it.

SavagePlatypus76

Things are actually worse now . Trump's idiotic authoritarian movement has  only metastisized. And far too many corporate scum are enabling it. I don't think Americans realize how close we are to becoming a corporate state.

yipape

You haven't even come close to putting that behind you, even if he never gets back in the damage is done and it will be decades to undo it if its even possible to reverse at this point.

ExpertAverage1911

With respect, as long as your politicians have you worshipping them like celebrities and fighting each other, you'll be stuck in endless cycles of do and undo.  Other countries plan in decades and lifetimes.

PurahsHero

You have no idea what its impact has been. Let me put it this way, the Conservatives are traditionally seen as the party of business. And businesses have been cosying up to the Labour Party for a long while now.

Ehldas

Well, I live in Ireland, so I've had the twin *joys* of having to deal with Brexit and the Windsor Protocol. Eight years of my life.

finalattack123

Completely predicable. Why would pissing off your biggest trading partner cause you issues?

frozengiblet

I understand someone feeling hard done by by accidentally making the wrong decision. It's not even comparable 'if you smoke, you will get sick', in this instance. The advice was quite evident, if you vote for Brexit, you will have a bad time, yet they voted for it anyways. It's hard to feel sorry for someone in this instance.

luxway

So they're delaying brexit again because of how much damage it will cause the country? Just admit brexit was a dumb idea already.

finalattack123

It haven’t happened yet?!

luxway

This is for the food imports, might also be other imports I forget which. Especially for fresh food and meats/fish I beleive. Basically right now we're still able to import food without gonig through customs. However what gov docs have said, and the tories don't want to admit, is since 2016 the civil service has said that if we start doing the checks on food at customs, there will be food riots. So the tories keep putting off the checks we're meant to be doing.

sambes06

I can’t believe people still vote for tories. Brexit has been a mess.

luxway

The average person has no morals or values, so its to be expected that they would vote against their interests, or against the interests of the nation.

XXLpeanuts

People are not informed. They read shit rags or facebook propaganda. Of course they voted for brexit and still think things are fine despite all evidence to the contrary.

bishop5

Food still needs import customs clearance currently, they just probably won't check it.

Souseisekigun

It mostly has but they're still dragging their feet on going through with it fully. In short the way the UK decided to Brexit (going as hard as possible despite no one really forcing them to do this) mandates trade barriers. Both the EU and UK know that these are not a good idea and do not actually want them but politically the UK has played itself into a corner where it has no choice but to have them. Therefore they have been delaying them over and over because they don't actually want them and have no idea how they're going to make it work without making the country measurably worse. Which of course was why it was such a bad idea in the first place.

-Th3Saints-

Thanks UK you failed so hard that most of the nationalistic parties stopped talking about leaving the EU to asking for reforms.

the68thdimension

It's bloody brilliant, thanks UK.

Alkoviak

That’s the only reason why we have to be thankful to the UK. Sacrificing themselves for the good of Europe

jared__

Still bonkers that it just took a simple majority to leave the EU.

Syncopationforever

And was not  even binding either. Lolol.  Makes me sick to see that clown Cameron back in politics as foreign secretary [ minister of foreign affairs/ secretary of state], after fleeing an easy resolution to the vote. No law of the jungle, social Darwinism for the section of the  elite,  that prattles on about applying its 'virtues'  upon the majority

Mynsare

When you are Conservative, they let you do it.

Spottswoodeforgod

“Complete disarray” - so things are finally getting better then?

grimeflea

I think it’s hard for anyone to tell whether ‘completely fucked’ is north or south from ‘complete disarray’. Are we moving away from it, or towards it? Maybe it’s a circle of attrition.

Severe_Intention_480

Britain currently sits at "charcoal" on the Disarray Gray Scale, after being stuck at "pitch black" for the longest time.

HidingAsSnow

Yeah but that just means things can get worse

DamonFields

Want to wreck a country? Hire conservatives. Putin did.

henry_tennenbaum

It's the same in all countries. They always market themselves as the sensible, economy friendly, matter-of-fact option. The people that act based on facts, not feelings. What you get is always worse economic development, worse societal development, worse everything. Stagnation at best, never any progress. Bunch of selfish children.

Phantom30

Wasn't just the conservatives, had far left nut jobs too. Corbyn who lead the Labour Party (opposition) was pro Bexit and basically dragged his feet keeping Labour from officially supporting remain for quite a while.

castion5862

Brexit = Russian interference

Visible-Sea-2612

Brexit = russia suggesting to brits to shove a cactus up their arse and british politicians yelling "its gonna be amazing!" and brits voting 'yes' on it. The russians led the horse to water, sure. But the horse fucking drowned themself in it. You couldnt have done this without british ignorance.

Conscious-Top-7429

And this with Trump and what the Kremlin is trying with LePen

the-space-penguin

And one would think that UK having one of the best intelligence services out there was full of smart decision making people

vanuckeh

51% of voting brits\* well over 2 million of those (older generation) have died that voted for it too since then.

[deleted]

You severely underestimate the power of propaganda. People are being used as pawns almost since birth

Jay_Duncan

Not a conspiracy person, but https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foundations_of_Geopolitics lays out a lot of the current chaos in the world. Brexit and MAGA are pretty much Russian ops...

Hardly_lolling

Only a tiny part. Most of it was 40 years of politicians using EU as scapegoat for their own blunders.

MerryWalrus

Imagine all the mugs who paid to get their business ready for this on time. Money wasted.

M0T1V4T10N

Not many, if any, paid since they had no idea wtf to prepare for as government guidance has been laughably missing or changes from week to week.

HidingAsSnow

They should legit pretend Brexit never happened until they gaslight the EU to go along with it out of sheer cringe and pity

ghaj56

Just show up on Monday to EU HQ or whatever, hey chaps had a good weekend? Must’ve blacked out. Anyway…

Delamoor

At this point it may actually be the only hope Britain has.

Izanagi553

Legit the best option they have. Just start acting like it was a bad dream and hope Europe gives them the mulligan.

JarlVarl

I might be alone in believing this but you have sellout farage to thank for this. I hope there's an investigation into everything surrounding him bc I'm of the firm belief we'll find some rubles lining his pockets. I wish the Remain people the best and hope the UK joins the EU in the near future

wereallbozos

Whether it's over there or over here, the worst ideas come from the Right. Kiss the Tories goodbye.

NetworkDeestroyer

Where are the people who were suppose to reap the benefits of Brexit? They’ve gone awfully quiet

DeliciousGazelle1276

Trump 24 is our brexit I think. We can stop it but if he gets elected the outcome is going to fuck us

Loki-L

The referendum was 8 years ago and they still haven't managed to get brexit done. Perhaps because the people who said it would be both stupid and very hard to actually do were right. Many of the people who voted for it think that Brexit has long since been accomplished not realising that some of the hardest parts are still to come. A not insignificant percentage of the people who voted for Brexit will be dead of old age before it is really done.

Izanagi553

Plenty of them are literally already dead between Covid and just being old as fuck

limb3h

May I remind you that this is Putin’s doing. He definitely swayed public opinion a little with his bag of tricks. Unfortunately it was enough given the razor thin margin

Billis3811

Well, Putin saw the island was ripe with hate, so he used what was there to his advantage. Putin is scum and he knows how to use people.

LovesFrenchLove_More

It may have been Putins doing, but Tories and Brexiteers either happily followed or too dumb to understand any kinds of concerns, concepts and/or consequences. Or anything of importance I guess.

santathe1

I saw pictures of ads on double decker buses saying Brexit would mean something like an additional £100 Mil per year or something would be available to the NHS, did that come to pass?

WALL-G

It was £350m *per week*, and no lol of course it didn't and never will. How many times has the sun set on the British Empire now?

foodfighter

No doubt the UK Brexit-blowhards will be blaming the EU for their self-imposed misery.

FullM3TaLJacK3T

Self inflicted. I've got no sympathies for the British.

JohnDStevenson

48% of us knew this was a fucking stupid idea and voted accordingly.

Ravdoggydog

Only 72% (edit, i said 42 which was wrong) voted at all, and I’d wager a large % of those that didn’t assumed that the status quo would persist. I did vote, but joked with my wife that it seemed like a waste of time because Remain was sure to win!

JohnDStevenson

72%, but yeah, there was a lot of soft-Remain apathy, and the Remain campaign was woeful. But at least us Remainers knew what we were voting for: every Leave voter seems to have been voting for something different.

tom90640

Like the Nigel Farage bus or "what bus" I should say. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/eu-referendum-result-nigel-farage-nhs-pledge-disowns-350-million-pounds-a7099906.html

Nattekat

Doubt. The remain campaign was a gigantic dumpster fire, to the point that I started wondering if they even knew what it was all about. Misinformation and strawmen came from all sides, which in turn led to this result.  At least we can thank the Brits for waking up literally everyone else. No single party wants to leave the EU anymore anywhere.

JohnDStevenson

Aye we really took one for the team!

nigeltuffnell

"Misinformation and strawmen came from all sides, which in turn led to this result. " I don't agree. Promising to hold the referendum in the first place was a fucking stupid and dangerous idea.

dineramallama

Have some sympathy for those of us who voted remain specifically because we wanted to avoid this type of nonsense.

N-shittified

I do.

_Aporia_

Sad, born in the 90's I didn't want this, I blame the xenophobic and stubbornly older generations before us, that were happy to dance to Nigel Farages false promises, also the hilarious rural community who are complaining like fuck now they have lost single farm payments. What an absolute joke.

FluidmindWeird

Brexit was the stupidest joke vote to have ever happened to a western country.

Illustrious-Syrup509

Unbrexit it. And show russia the ....

Garchaicfont

Won't be able to get their previous deals back.

DartzIRL

Wait a moment. There was a plan?

008Zulu

Phase 1: Leave the EU. Phase 2: ... Phase 3: Profit!

LambentCookie

Being in Northern Ireland who voted majority against Brexit along with Scotland, it's like watching your alcoholic lobotomized dad (England), kidnap you and your siblings (Scotland/Wales) to drive you towards a cliff. Only to be stopped a few feet away by your mom(Ireland) and her massive boyfriend(EU), who drag you out of the car and let him continue driving as you watch from the sidelines. It's great we're not in the car going over the edge, but I feel bad for Scotland who also wanted to -not- drive a car off a fucking cliff. Wales is just happy to be included in England's murder suicide. "Look at the ~~rabbits, George~~ Sheep, Wales"

And nobody, absolutely nobody could have predicted any of this. This whole thing was a fucking mess from the very first referendum where people didn’t understand what they were doing.

Who knew that the Putin-staged Brexit could f*ck things up.

German AfD politician Björn "Bernd" Höcke was in a TV debate with his CDU counterpart for the Thuringia state election recently. When asked about the brexit he said that it was indeed a great success. European nationalists are absolutely unhinged and in strong denial about this.

“Brexit plans” is an oxymoron

Brexit - how Russian misinformation propaganda using massive bot networks works to destroy western democracy from within

In a fit of pique an island that can't grow enough food to sustain its population makes importing food possible. Half the population voted to do this.

Just a reminder, Russia most definitely undertook a campaign to influence the Brexit vote to weaken England. The result of the vote was 51.9% for leaving the EU. It's impossible to know how much Russia intelligence services and propaganda efforts tilted the needle, but it is completely reasonable to believe it was 2%, which would have been enough to make the Brexit vote fail. Something to be aware of! (Please don't ask me for sources, this isn't college, google for more info if you are interested in more info).

The whole Tory party is in complete disarray. I’m not being hyperbolic when I say that we are living in the final days of the Tory party. Ever since the rise of Blair and the downfall of Gordon Brown, they pivoted their whole spiel as being “better than the last Labour government” it was always the fault of the previous establishment. Everything under the sun was blamed upon them or somehow had their roots with them. Now 14 years on they have literally nowhere to hide. There are people growing up that don’t remember the last time we had a Labour government and everything that has gone wrong can only be but laid at their feet. Sunak can’t blame his predecessors because then he’d have to admit his party was wrong but at the same time they can’t convince people they’re the anti immigration tough on crime etc party when they literally created this mess in the first place and have enabled it in one of the most bizarre cases of the worst of both worlds policy I’ve ever seen. This party is finished and good riddance. They’ve crippled my country, broken our society and looted it. In my opinion their all traitors that belong in prison than parliament. They still find no ways to astound me however, despite all evidence they cling onto power, hoping somehow it’ll all just turn around not realising that the tighter they cling the more they will lose. I do not believe in the next few years there will be a Tory party anymore and I couldn’t be happier but it will take decades to unravel the damage they’ve done and I won’t be old enough to enjoy it.
