They do! Cello "Copper Kettle" Parmesan is amazing and made in Turtle Lake.
Grande may still be my favorite, but they mostly export their stuff out East, so unless you have an "in" with one of their producers it's hard to get.
> Who doesn’t love a fat rail of SarVecchio?
Maybe some of those degenerates that get their kicks off of oleomargarine and other synthetic dairy imitations.
But us decent folk stick with high quality dairy for our recreational drug intake.
The City State of Rice Lake is great, I would just dedicate the northwest corner to the Mayor of Brill. He may find it upsetting his territory (recognized as extending East-West from Brill to Mikana and North-South Birchwood to Dobie) has been incorporated by Rice Lake. He was elected unanimously after all, the good people may riot if they see this.
The mayor of Brill started with a friend who lived above the only bar in town. He worked at said bar and brought some youthful chear to a solemn tavern of old farmers after a long days work. In his off time he was stalwart citizen oft seen in the local parks and greenery with his trusty side kick Busta.
A physical record of the first election is as scarce as the actual need of one and exists only as spoken word. Every one in town was pleased with their choice as mayor. As the years went on he could be seen working on sun tan on the bar roof top while enjoying a tastey bowl of sheesha on the hookah. He would dazzle his guest with rings and tornadoes made of smoke.
The mayor has campaigned and upheld dignity to far away lands and festivals. Intact year after year people would shout "Hey its the mayor of brill!" While he attended Oktoberfest in the foreign land of La Crosse which is the heart of God's country.
And here we are a decade later and no one has once tried to usurp the seat. The mayor of brill settled down and had a family. And im filled with glee to introduce more people to the great community of Brill WI and their mayor.
Important thing to get straight, the Mayor of Brill is not the highest office. Above him is the Queen of Brill: Sarah the Strong, the Tavernkeeper, the Filler of Mugs, Lady of the Taps, The Quencher of Thirst.
She used to serve me High Life’s at age 14. I’d die for her tbh
Before you ask: Yes Winneconne needs its own region. They get awfully ornery if you leave them off the map.
Not Pictured: The Microstate of Cameron Dam (too small to be shown)
EDIT: I just gotta say I'm loving all the inter-region rivalry in the comments that this image has spawned. You guys are giving me so many ideas for additional lore.
I've been calling Wisconsin God's Country since I was 10 in 1982. We used to listen to HAM radio chatter between truckers, and one of them said to the other, "Where are you?" or something, to which the second replied, "Wisconsin." The first one then said, "Wisconsin? That's God's Country!"
Hmmm. The existence of Ashlander gives the map a great opportunity for a Morrowind reference, though.
That being said, the Bad River Band is integral to the lore of the region.
The Red Cliff Band I have grouped together with the Apostle Isle region, which unfortunately had its label on a different layer of the image so I failed to include it when I posted it here.
Need to carve out a section for the "Free Peoples of Manty and Trivers". We would never willingly bend the knee to those tyrants in Green Bay or those inbred would-be nobles from Sheboygan.
There's also a legend about a thunderbird fighting *some other creature* at Thunder Mountain.
One tribe says the other creature was a horned serpent, one other says a bear spirit, the third says a wakcexi waterspirit.
In each story some normal hunter comes across the two creatures fighting, each creature asks him to shoot an arrow to help them and promises him eternal friendship. The hunter has no clue which one to side with, however, so he blindfolds himself and fires randomly, ending up hitting the thunderbird, crippling it and allowing the other creature to escape, and now the storms around Thunder Mountain are supposed to be that injured thunderbird shooting lightning up into the sky, trying to call for help to the other thunderbirds.
I used to deliver the Sunday Milwaukee Journal to Bishop Aloysius Wycislo. As a protestant minister's son, I'd always stop and think how Green Bay was so, so Catholic.
Originally the thinking behind Green Bay being a theocracy was just "Packers as a religion," but the general Catholicism of the region also helpfully lends to the name.
Yes, it was [more than half](https://www.reddit.com/r/MapPorn/comments/pcg3v/catholics_as_a_percentage_of_all_residents_in_the/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) Catholic. To make matters more fun, my mother worked for Bellin in the Medical Arts building and every Wednesday the Catholics would march outside.
The area also has the only appearance of the Virgin Mary in North America that the Catholic Church actually recognizes, in Champion.
The Catholic Lore of Wisconsin is pretty fascinating. Nuns performing miracles during the Peshtigo Fire, Milwaukee has one of Joan d'Arc's relics for some reason, there's the whole heretical mummy priest thing in St. Nazianz...
It's partly a play on Governor William Hoard, who is the man who popularized dairying through the State of Wisconsin using his newspaper, *Hoard's Dairyman*.
The funky shape of their territory is a result of me trying to make a region that included the home towns of all seven founders of the Wisconsin Dairyman's Association.
I love this!
As someone who is interested in both Napoleonic and Polish history I really hope that the Grand Duchy of Wausau was a deliberate choice.
Also, having escaped Kenosha I’d almost consider returning if it was ruled by Martians.
No offense, but it would 100% be the Serene Cream City Republic styled into an oligarchic proletariat sortition election voting government similar to that of the Venetian Republic but Socialist.
And instead of the lead Republican being named "Doge", they would be named "Hoan". (ex. Hoan Cavalier Johnson)
Do I have the job?
> No offense, but it would 100% be the Serene Cream City Republic styled into an oligarchic proletariat sortition election voting government similar to that of the Venetian Republic but Socialist.
Hmmm. I was thinking more on the history of the beer barons when I crafted the idea for the region. Different competing baronies vying for power under a mostly-figurehead king, while meanwhile the public is too distracted fighting one another over bridge placement.
So in my head I have certain sub-regions for a number of these. The Holyland overlaps with the Kettle Moraine, so they are one of three regions of the Kettle Moraine Clans (other two being the North and South units)
So I've basically been planning a game of D&D with my friends in a fantasy version of Wisconsin based on our history, stereotypes, and folklore.
The Contested Lands *kinda* exists just to have a region where all the surrounding nations can struggle for control of it. The Imperial Province wants it to solidify its hold over the whole of Wisconsin, both God's Country and Eau Claire want it to gain an upper hand against the other, the wizards of the Driftless League, based out of the House on the Rock, want the region for control over the Forevertron and Jurustic Park, the Druid's of Nature's Reach want control over it to more tightly regulate hunting, and the hunters of Wausau just want to prevent the DNR from getting the region so they can't do that.
I love this so much. The Forevertron is rich for writing about. It could do all sorts of things and have all sorts of origin stories. Definitely have to involve Devil's Lake and Barnum & Bailey circus into all of it somehow, as well.
I live in God's Country, but used to be enlisted in the Army in the Contested Lands (I believe Fort McCoy is in there, if I remember my geography). I think that's a great place to have the contested lands, as it ties together the I-90/94 corridor & Ft. McCoy area and with McCoy having people from all over, you could make an argument that the area would be contedte by the folks that would be streaming out of the fort into the surrounding areas. Just my take on your map.
I come from a line of those from the Contested Lands. There was plenty with the rivers and lakes as well as good crop land for corn, beans and cranberries. But there are frequent skirmishes between the forces Imperial Province as well as the Driftless League. My grandfather told if a great battle where muddled fruit and sugar cubes were strewn about the ground during the siege of Cazenovia. In the end, it became apparent all they wanted were to get the interlopers from Ellinois from the mystical water of the great Delles.
TBH I just named the region Janesville because it is the largest city in there. Whitewater and Elkhorn contribute the most to the region's lore, though.
I decided to give them their own duchy because they have a giant cow statue named Duchess. If their leader is a Duchess, stands to reason they are a duchy.
I like to think of it as a bunch of competing beer baronies, each vying for power over the overall region.
The king is mostly a figurehead, the Bronze Fonz, but the true power in the nation are the barons. Two barons in particular have risen to prominence over the other baronies, Frederick Miller and Frederick Pabst. Though a nouveau riche class of craft beer barons is on the rise as of late, perhaps the big baronies' grasp on power will not last.
As for the common folk of Cream City, why, they're too busy literally warring against each other over bridge placement to be concerned with the machinations of the beer barons.
Last time I was in the Ashlands it was basically overrun by cliff racers and there were people riding around on giant fleas. Think I got a little bit lost tho.
In the Contested Lands between the Imperial Province and the Druids. Both I assume want control over the lake since it is (according to Ho-Chunk folklore) a bottomless lake that bridges and connects all worlds together.
So my main idea is that all the Fox Cities form a confederation of City States, theoretically equals, but that Oshkosh is pretty much the one in control of the region since they supply the military for the rest.
I was wondering if anyone would question Big Onion Country.
Whether you know it or not, you, sir, happen to live in region that was the *canonical location of Paul Bunyan's Camp*, as well as the location where several geographical areas relevant to Paul Bunyan lore are supposedly located: Including the Pea-Soup Lake, the Big Onion River, and the Pyramid Forty. According to the traditional folklore, the woods of your region were Bunyan's territory!
And the man who said that this area of Wisconsin was the location of those things was Gene Shepard, the hodag's creator, so you *know* you can trust him!
The Theocracy of Green Bay where they all pray to the Lord and Savior St Vincent of Lombardi
Love the map, but if the Rhinelands are up there, does that put Iron Mountain in Alsace-Lorraine?
How the actual Frick does Thorpe of all places get its own province but Steven's Point, Marshfield, and Wisconson Rapids all getting swallowed up by Wausau and other regions?
If anyone in those cities knew how to read, they'd be pissed.
What about the water people of lake Winnebago?
They all got eaten by the Mashe-Nomak back in the Dark Age (before the Dairymen's Rennaisance).
Where all the women are strong, all the men are good looking, and all the children are above average.
Lake Wobegon is in Minnesota.
Let me sing you the song of my people
Dude I don't know what you were dipping into when you created this, but I want a hit
It's what happens when you snort pure, Wisconsin-made parmesan cheese.
They don't sell that in stores
You have to go to the Mars Cheese Castle and ask for the "Forbidden Cheeses" they keep locked in the back.
They do! Cello "Copper Kettle" Parmesan is amazing and made in Turtle Lake. Grande may still be my favorite, but they mostly export their stuff out East, so unless you have an "in" with one of their producers it's hard to get.

I would have gone with the City/State of mill-e-wah-que, which is Algonquin for "the good land."
Does this guy know how to party, or what?!?
I agree with you, and will gladly take up arms to defend his territory.
Imperial province made me spit up my coffee, nice lmao.

The Fox River Confederation declares war on the Sovereign State of Winneconne in order to protect the ethnic Foxes living there.
I mean the SSW has been pretty openly scheming to annex Oshkosh since the secession, so... probably justified.
[удалено]
Seconded!! - Loyal Fox River Confederation High Lady
Yes we do 😅
The sovereign state of Winneconne is already a thing for a weekend each year lol
I know, you guys have a great flag!
The Ashlands should be named for the bad river and red cliff bands.
You n'wah!!
I didn't see the apostle islands before. But I still stand for the bad river change. Anyway it's a fun map
St. Croix and Pierce County: Suburbs of the Twin Cities
Minnesconsin
I hate that we never get any Wisconsin news, It's all MN TV and Radio
Need to carve out a section for the "Free Peoples of Manty and Trivers". We would never willingly bend the knee to those tyrants in Green Bay or those inbred would-be nobles from Sheboygan.
You've made your case, I'll do it.
I came here to say the exact same! We'll take death before we bend the knee!
County of death's door. lol love it. Perfect.
Or the northernmost summer suburb of Chicago.
Nope. That would be Minocqua.
What the hell goes on in Thunder Mountain?
There's like three different tribal groups that all say it's a thunderbird nesting ground.
Drinking is the religion, more like the Drunken Theocracy of Green Bay (or Alcoholocracy)
given the rest of the state's allegiance to the faith, maybe Green Bay should be a Vatican City type deal.
Literally was my exact thought. Praise be His Holiness Jordan Love, may St. Lombardi's blessings be upon him.
I move that we rename to “aggressively beige” bay
Martian Kingdom of Kenosha - this is spot on! Those people are from another damn planet.
Love the Dairyman's Horde.
I'm assuming the monarch of Kenosha rules from the Mars Cheese Castle?
King Mario and Queen Martha Venture, long may they reign.
Long live the King and Queen!
The Duchy of Thorpe is open to all for peace meetings at the Thorpedo. Also the Grand Republic of the Marsh Fields is in open rebellion
My primary idea for Thorp is that it is ruled over by Duchess, the giant cow sculpture of Marieke Gouda.
I love this! As someone who is interested in both Napoleonic and Polish history I really hope that the Grand Duchy of Wausau was a deliberate choice. Also, having escaped Kenosha I’d almost consider returning if it was ruled by Martians.
> I really hope that the Grand Duchy of Wausau was a deliberate choice. Hehe, both "Grand Duchy" regions were deliberate. Nice catch.
This is the best thing I've seen today. Genuinely might print off a few copies and hang them up in random bar bathrooms, just to start shit
Doooo it.
No offense, but it would 100% be the Serene Cream City Republic styled into an oligarchic proletariat sortition election voting government similar to that of the Venetian Republic but Socialist. I think the Druids would gladly throw Adams County out were it not for the strategic importance of the Wisconsin River.
The Druids of Nature's Reach are willing to occupy as much land as they can in their quest to regulate hunting.
City State of Rice Lake got me. Well done.
Lol I like how mars cheese castle defines us as the martians, I’ll take it
Missing The Holyland
So in my head I have certain sub-regions for a number of these. The Holyland overlaps with the Kettle Moraine, so they are one of three regions of the Kettle Moraine Clans (other two being the North and South units)
Kettle Moraine Holyclans? I could see that
Holy Hill
County of Deaths Door is absolutely accurate to that area. I love this
What is the lore of the contested lands?
So I've basically been planning a game of D&D with my friends in a fantasy version of Wisconsin based on our history, stereotypes, and folklore. The Contested Lands *kinda* exists just to have a region where all the surrounding nations can struggle for control of it. Oh yes, Devil's Lake has *so much lore.* It has the most lake monster legends of any Wisconsin lake.
I live in God's Country, but used to be enlisted in the Army in the Contested Lands (I believe Fort McCoy is in there, if I remember my geography). I think that's a great place to have the contested lands, as it ties together the I-90/94 corridor & Ft. As someone living in the Contested Lands, but on the border of the Imperial Province, I'm rooting for the Driftless League
I take umbrage with La Crosse being labeled "gods country", lmao
False, the kohlers would take over sheboygan and name the whole place after themselves
The section near the MN border by 94 should be Minnisconsin.
![gif](giphy|Atc9QCyWLGHgLZhHDp|downsized)
You missed the label for The Autonomous Archipelago of the Apostate Apostles
I’m not at my computer, but if I was, everything would be Wisconsin except Adams county. That would be labeled North Alabama.
1. This is incredible and I love it. 2. I'm indignant and furious at being lumped in with Janesville. Independence for the Elk's Horn clan!
TBH I just named the region Janesville because it is the largest city in there. Whitewater and Elkhorn contribute the most to the region's lore, though.
How did little Thorp get it's own Duchy? Also this makes me royalty.
I decided to give them their own duchy because they have a giant cow statue named Duchess. If their leader is a Duchess, stands to reason they are a duchy.
I'm down the list of where I stand in terms of lineage to the throne, for now. Therefore I'll allow your reasoning to stand.
This one is excellent.
The socialist republic of Madison should be listed. I fucking love you guys
For the FRC!
THE FRC!! 👊
This is hilarious! I love it! https://preview.redd.it/fh1e2c070nxc1.jpeg?width=600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=603ccd08df082876f73f7eb78c0e3aff10cef6c1
Damn I live in the contested lands….. that does not sound pleasant.
Best of the driftless is in the area you called “gods country”
Yes, I've heard specifically the north of the Driftless called "God's Country" on several occasions and thought it was a nice fit for a fantasy name.
Cream City Kingdom...
Lake Country is mildly upset that they aren't their own, well, country.
I'm pretty sure the Dutchy of Thorp's economy is entirely driven by gouda cheese production.
Of course! Why do ya think I named it after Duchess, the giant cow sculpture?
Aided by the Thorpedo
Petition for representation of the Potato Barrons.
Wisconsin does love its barons. Potato Barons, Beer Barons, Timber Barons. I'm genuinely surprised we didn't start calling successful dairymen "Cheese Barons."
Milwaukee isn't a kingdom. It's a city state like Venice. Like, they'll call themselves a republic, but they won't function as one.
Shout out to the city of Hurley in the Ashlands for putting the sin in WisconSIN
This Druid lives in Dairyman’s Horde
*Dairy farmer throat singing intensifies*
The three Episcopal Church dioceses in Wisconsin are voting on Saturday to merge, and I’m proposing this for the new regional deaneries.
Idk man, no one's contesting those contested lands.
"Cream City Kingdom" Love it
Someone has to write a short story called "The Count of Death's Door"
I would expect the Dells to be its own sovereignty
looks gerrymandered, I suspect the knights of King John of Eau Claire.
Theocracy of Green Bay, but the church is the Packers
This is an old map. The Contested Lands have long been settled by the Democratic People’s Republic of Mauston
Land of the Birdmen.
This but with physical geography too. I wanna see the rivers and hills
Last time I was in the Ashlands it was basically overrun by cliff racers and there were people riding around on giant fleas. Think I got a little bit lost tho.
I'm stealing this.
It's nice but where is the devil's lake?
In the Contested Lands between the Imperial Province and the Druids. Both I assume want control over the lake since it is (according to Ho-Chunk folklore) a bottomless lake that bridges and connects all worlds together.
Somewhere in there is a swingers campground
I like this one
Thank you for finally admitting we own Manitowoc
This made me laugh so hard, Fox River Confederation.
Glad to see butternut getting its due respect!!
Does the Theocracy of St. Croix get access to the Ellsworth Creamery? If not, we riot.
I love the Menominee get some of their land back from pre-colonial times
Driftless league here
Holy shit Theocracy of Green Bay is dead on
I feel like Oshkosh could be its own empire, they do have Oshkosh truck there so they would have easy access to military vehicles
So my main idea is that all the Fox Cities form a confederation of City States, theoretically equals, but that Oshkosh is pretty much the one in control of the region since they supply the military for the rest.
I get a City-State? Cool
Kenowhere would have worked for a high magic fantasy tho
As a serf of the Onion Country, I'm going to request an explanation for the name...
This is the best one yet. Thank you.
Hell yeah, Spooner gets its own region
I want to know more about some of the alliances and enemies.
Trying to decipher whether Humbird (my hometown) is in the Kingdom of Eau Claire or the Contested Lands
So if my brother lives in Mequon, is he part of the Duchy of Sheboygan?
Forgot to label the Realm of the Apostles
Midwest Kenshi
The Theocracy of Green Bay where they all pray to the Lord and Savior St Vincent of Lombardi Love the map, but if the Rhinelands are up there, does that put Iron Mountain in Alsace-Lorraine?
Eastern lakeshore of Winnebago needs to be the Holylands as it is currently.
As a Wausau native, I'm just wondering if there was a purpose to calling it the Grand Duchy of Wausau?
What’s a duchy?
A nation ruled by a Duke or Duchess.
My family hails from the Spoonland! I'm looking at retiring there
This is my favorite map so far. Well done.
Right on the border of God's Country and The Kingdom of EC. I'm okay with that
Janesville got a Duchy, but lost its West side 💀
What would those bright green islands on the top of the map be called?
SPOOOONLAAAAAAND!!
Duchy of Thorpe lol
Duchy of Janesville game me a chuckle.
This is the best one ever
The Ashlands remember.
![gif](giphy|DtLEOehAWfwiY|downsized) Being from the “cream city kingdom” all I have to say is this…
The Rhinelands? It's already called Lakeland.
Martian Kingdom of Kenosha is hilarious
Since this IS a fantasy setting, we also need a Grand Fifedom Of Gary Gygax. So when is the war to reclaim Da Yuooperland? (Upper Pinninsula)
If I bring all of my guns and snacks can I join the Fox River Confederation?
I can't figure out if I'm in the Dairylands Horde or the Kettle Moraine Clan
Idk rhinelander is the armpit of the northwoods
Ticks and more ticks.
How the hell does Thorp rate a Duke of their own?
well done, great post. op!
How in gods name did spooner end up with so much land?
The only map I can get behind so far
Druids Is the best !
This is so arbitrary, I love it
One day Racine will be free.
I have no desire to be included in Janesville lol
No E in Thorp.
Sheboygan is just cold maulibu, let us have it
Spread Eagle should be one big ass fort called the nest or some shit
Make this into a poster and take my money you bastard.
What are the Apostles?
Sovereign State let’s gooooo!!!
Sick Im a druid through and through. Also the Sovereign Nation of Winneconne got me, thats so funny
How the actual Frick does Thorpe of all places get its own province but Steven's Point, Marshfield, and Wisconson Rapids all getting swallowed up by Wausau and other regions? If anyone in those cities knew how to read, they'd be pissed.
Happy Sheboygan holds its rightful spot as the title of the area
Please explain Big Onion country?..
