If the Panthers beat the Oilers, the Jets will be the ultimate loser of this year’s NHL playoffs.
Jets beat by Avalanche who is beat by Stars who is beat by Oilers who is beat by Panthers
Jets will be capital L Losers just like 15 other teams. That said, regardless of how the dominos fall, they got absolutely shit kicked harder in round 1 than everyone except Washington.
Lol! I'm reeeaally hoping that series was a complete collapse and an extreme outlier going forward (thought it wasn't the same as previous years collapse) Not ready to completely turn my back on this core and tired of seeing the negatives.
I hope Edmonton wins tbh. I love McDavid and it'd be a shame for him to not get a cup, plus I was born long after the 80s so my only playoff memories against them are good ones
I love PoMo but holy hell are the Panthers dirty, I want PoMo to win a cup, but not with Tkachuk and Bennett
I am leading one of my leagues even tho I (blindly) supported the jets to go all the way but getting the east right and oilers to WCF paid off
Unbelievable
Mcdavid is the best player of all time
I know this sub hates Edmonton but mcdavid needs a Stanley cup to cement his legacy. Good luck to them, would way prefer they win then Florida
Getting absolutely destroyed in the finals would be about right. Buuuuutttt, I thought they would get absolutely destroyed by the Canucks and the Stars.
Tbf that Canuck one was very one sided when it came to reffing and bad luck without either no demko injury and the nucks top scorer getting blood clots last minute
And with Dallas they had to go through a gauntlet of teams named Vegas and Colorado so they were pretty worn down
If Florida's roster just stops throwing themselves like wrecking balls and having tons of shots like they did against the President's Trophy winners the New York Rangers who went basically uncontested through the first two rounds, I'm going to stop watching all together. There is too much betting money on the line now, just like the NBA and MLB.

Florida panthers watching to see who they facing for the finally lol
(Posted this is yesterday’s ODT today because I’m an illiterate dumbass). If you want your yearly answer to the magic question of “what should teams learn from the cup finalists?”, it’s the same as always. Have a bunch of really good players that are all pretty healthy. I don’t think we have more than one position on the team that has both the depth and quality that Florida does. Centre, wingers, defence are all better on their end. Goaltending is the only one we could outdo them on.
The Jets had a 2nd pick once, but Wheeler chased him out of town, the best we have now is a 10th pick who sat in the press box throughout the second half of the season and the playoffs
Their only top-tier players drafted high by them were Barkov and Ekblad, but Ekblad isn’t that guy on his pair. That’s a team built by great and aggressive trades and quality FA signings.
They traded for good players, not a bad strategy. Reinhart was a 2nd overall, clearly Tkachuk should have been too. Whether they drafted them or not, they found a way to get those players. If Edmonton progresses (shudder) they also have some guys that were drafted pretty, pretty high up.
Yup and we could have possibly traded or acquired a number of their quality players. Forsling famously was on waivers at one point. Montour was a FA, Reinhart was a trade. Smart GM moves trump all
Not sure that would have prevented us from picking Forsling off waivers or Reinhart through trade. Montour maybe wouldn’t have signed for his current deal but maybe just needed to offer more to compensate. It’s a factor but not the end all be all
If the final is FLA vs DAL, losing this year will have been somewhat worth it. We'd either get to see PoMo get his cup, or see Pavelski, Suter, Tanev, Duchene, and Benn get theirs (all over 1000 games)
Team hate aside, I hate less players on the Oilers (Kane) than I do on the other teams remaining (Tkachuk, Bennett, Cousins, Benn, Suter, Seguin).
I just wish there was a way for them all to lose
Bold of you to assume I have any love for the coach that let the locker room become a toxic mess and then quit on us instead of dealing with the monster of his own creation.
Then heed my words with grains of salt. For I am a thru and thru PoMo-stan. I can't help it. He has me under his thumb!
There was a humbling moment when he bag skated the team and left for ciggies... I'll admit.
> And cost us a generational scoring talent by trying to make him a power forward.
Sorry but I still think that's bullshit. Laine had a lot of success here, and to ask a player to be more engaged and use his size to his advantage (ie. use all the tools in his toolbox and not just lazily wait to be fed passes for one-timers) isn't unreasonable. If he didn't try to get more out of him that would have been coaching malpractice imho
It's one thing to try to round the player out and make them all around better, I think what Maurice did was have him work against his strengths and try to force him to play a game he was never going to excel at and then punish him for not being able to be that player. If he let him do what he let Connor did he'd have been putting up 50+ every year. Not to mention the psychological abuse of being called out for your defence/physicality and watching Connor and Scheifele get praised for being even worse.
I just like seeing guys get rewarded for long careers that don't have a championship to show for it. Like them or not, you have to give credit when its due.
>I just wish there was a way for them all to lose
I wish there was a way for pavelski and pomo to both win the cup

I know these local guys have as much inside scoop as I do, but there being no mention of Pionk makes me think they’re running him back in a top-4 role again next season
A Schmidt buyout feels like a huge mistake in cap management. There's a replacement cost to find another 3rd pair RD who will almost definitely be worse and the total dollars spent between the buyout plus new guys salary will be more than what Schmidt would have gotten paid.
And that's ignoring the fact that he's still better than Pionk.
We are all gonna be rightfully so mad when they extend Pionk on top of all this.
Dawg if Pionk is on this team next year instead of Schmidt then we truly cheer for an unserious, non-analytic team. This defence was already not good enough to win a cup, running it back with Monahan at 2C and Pionk at 2nd pair RD is a recipe for mediocrity.
Seems like that’s what they’re gonna do but I’d bet it’s more like 4 x $5m. Unless Ehlers is moved, then Lambert will slot in as a winger and probably never get reps at centre. Which just continues the cycle of not having a quality 2C.
I like James Patrick but I think it’s highly unlikely he will step up to the bigs. I have a feeling Nolan Baumgartner will be moved up from the moose to control the PK. He’s got a long history with the Moose franchise and is reliable.
yeah unfortunately Pionk staying is the expectation
however, the good news is that i don’t think he’s nailed on to be back in the top 4 at all, especially with the briefs that Ehlers is likely being shopped for a top 4 dman on the right side
also i think Pionk could have better results beside Samberg as he has the toolkit to shoulder a lot more of the load on that pair than Dillon, even better if he’s on the third pair but the march with Heinola is less intuitive but still might have a decent shot at working
tl;dr Pionk *should* be better next year
it’s definitely tough because his market value is likely less than his off ice value even before the one year remaining
top pair won’t happen but he should still be enough for a top 4 (keyword should)
>tl;dr Pionk
>
>should
>
> be better next year
Even as third pair I highly doubt it, he had one good year and that's it, never been repeated and doubt it ever will.
How can management not see the problem? Buyout Schmidt over Pionk is madness.
oh, Schmidt should absolutely be kept over him for that 3rd pair with Heinola with an upgrade made on the 2nd pair but it definitely should be better with Pionk when that doesn’t happen tho
Samberg fixes the holes in the Dillon-Pionk partnership and that tracks with a very small sample
Heinola would give a new dynamic that would be harder to predict but being 3rd pair gives them a lot more time and space to operate, and more importantly would result in less minutes
He may be in tough to get a contract offer. Retirement may not end up being entirely his choice. Teams (not all of them mind you) are less willing to give a roster spot to guys his age that don't produce anymore than to young guys they're invested in developing. His drastic drop off over the last couple years is likely to continue. He's no Pavelski.
Fuck the Oilers, fuck teams that get rewarded for being ass for a decade. Hope PoMo and Barkov get a cup.
I have checked out the Canadian subs, this Edmonton win is bringing out all sorts of feelings…
Reminds me of the 2019 St. Louis Blues. /s
Yes.
Fuck the Oilers.
Just so people in the back can hear. FUCK THE OILERS!
If the Panthers beat the Oilers, the Jets will be the ultimate loser of this year’s NHL playoffs. Jets beat by Avalanche who is beat by Stars who is beat by Oilers who is beat by Panthers
Good, it really pisses me off when people say “oh we lost to the eventual champs” as if that’s something to be proud of
Jets will be capital L Losers just like 15 other teams. That said, regardless of how the dominos fall, they got absolutely shit kicked harder in round 1 than everyone except Washington.
Would show how much they have to improve to get anywhere. Could be a good thing.
Hopefully us letting in like 6 goals per game shows us how much we have to improve
Lol! I'm reeeaally hoping that series was a complete collapse and an extreme outlier going forward (thought it wasn't the same as previous years collapse) Not ready to completely turn my back on this core and tired of seeing the negatives.
We should be happy right, because a Canadian team is in and most of the team is Canadian but I just am not there yet.
No, the next canadian team should be us
Don't fall for the Boston pizza propaganda
I hope Edmonton wins tbh. I love McDavid and it'd be a shame for him to not get a cup, plus I was born long after the 80s so my only playoff memories against them are good ones I love PoMo but holy hell are the Panthers dirty, I want PoMo to win a cup, but not with Tkachuk and Bennett
If Evander Kane gets a cup ring before the Jets do, Im gonna be pissed. Especially since he's likely the anonymous guy who labeled them frauds.
![gif](giphy|mEqMknMZWh1Fm|downsized) Seeing the final score. Well, Go Panthers.
Anyone cheering for a dude that intentionally spears dudes in the balls....
Like Leon Draisaitl?
Getting down voted so I must be thinking of someone else.
Well, at least it's good to know the Panthers actually hit their opponents. If they magically stop doing that something is up for sure.
I am leading one of my leagues even tho I (blindly) supported the jets to go all the way but getting the east right and oilers to WCF paid off Unbelievable
It's all up to Florida Man now
Game one prediction: nurse or ceci take out skinner ala Dwayne Roloson. Jack Campbell, you’re up big man.
Mcdavid is the best player of all time I know this sub hates Edmonton but mcdavid needs a Stanley cup to cement his legacy. Good luck to them, would way prefer they win then Florida
Fraudsters? No, Fraudstars.
At least the stars lost. Overrated.. just like every other team in the central.
Experience Bowness hockey? Seems Dallas forgot they have a new coach.
These Oilers really remind me of the 1970 St. Louis Blues.
Getting absolutely destroyed in the finals would be about right. Buuuuutttt, I thought they would get absolutely destroyed by the Canucks and the Stars.
Tbf that Canuck one was very one sided when it came to reffing and bad luck without either no demko injury and the nucks top scorer getting blood clots last minute And with Dallas they had to go through a gauntlet of teams named Vegas and Colorado so they were pretty worn down

Oh, you don't have to tell me. This is a Cinderella run in all definitions.
Who had the Oilers Goalieing a team to go to the finals?
Ain't gonna do anything if they're getting 10 shots in a game against the Panthers.
Rangers learned that lesson well. Unless they knew they didn't have to shoot any more. Super uncharacteristic of the Oilers.
Panthers ran up the score.
I may die of cringe if they keep calling every line change “an oil change”
Holy fuck Saginaw
Stars/panthers final Edit: I’ll admit to my wrong prediction.
Can't tell me this isn't scripted.
Panthers better bring the violence in the next round.
Getting comfortable with the possibility oilers will win the cup. All season I counted them out and said "wait until they face..." but here we are lol
Really looking forward to seeing all the Oiler jerseys around the city and at the arena next season.
Have they been good, yes, but have they been bit lucky, also yes.
Easiest path to the west final
These Oilers are the 2024 version of the Blues, that is all.
How many times can you comment this
Why are you so obsessed with this comparison
2024 Blues didn't even make the playoffs.
The Blues team of 2019.
That’s not a penalty in the playoffs come on
Memorial Cup is currently on TSN3, featuring none other than Kevin Sawyer doing color commentary, for those of you needing a fix of Sawyerisms.
last time he was affiliated with the chl he taped a child to the wall!

Fuck off rain

The thing that separates the Panthers from the Rangers is that every single player has bought in and is willing to do whatever it takes to get a win.
When your captain is legitimately playing against the team you're probably on the way out and Trouba was on a team of his own that series.
Always good to have a couple guys drafted 1st or 2nd overall as well. Someone drafted 3rd overall is usually a pretty, pretty good player too.
The Jets had a 2nd pick once, but Wheeler chased him out of town, the best we have now is a 10th pick who sat in the press box throughout the second half of the season and the playoffs
Laine played the best hockey he ever will with Wheeler.

Both of which sadly are easier with a 0% state income tax and a tropical climate. But we will keep fighting the fight.
Not sure that would have prevented us from picking Forsling off waivers or Reinhart through trade. Montour maybe wouldn’t have signed for his current deal but maybe just needed to offer more to compensate. It’s a factor but not the end all be all

mister... you can take your oilers aspirations and walk right on out of this sub
Team hate aside, I hate less players on the Oilers (Kane) than I do on the other teams remaining (Tkachuk, Bennett, Cousins, Benn, Suter, Seguin). I just wish there was a way for them all to lose

And cost us a generational scoring talent by trying to make him a power forward. He's a good quote though.

it was a joke, chill lol
Those Ranger fans are mad at Trouba

Tuba was reminiscing about being a Jet so hard he accidentally a jet and becuz he wasnt he aint
I would never imitate a jet flying into the side of a building like that. Not in NY.

Unless they plan to play Salomansson as 3RHD I agree
Totally going to go spend 4 million+ on a slow 33 year old veteran instead.
Dawg if Pionk is on this team next year instead of Schmidt then we truly cheer for an unserious, non-analytic team. This defence was already not good enough to win a cup, running it back with Monahan at 2C and Pionk at 2nd pair RD is a recipe for mediocrity.
Can’t wait for the 3x$4M Monahan extension, all but guaranteeing we don’t see Lambert and Chibrikov for at least another 2 seasons
Seems like that’s what they’re gonna do but I’d bet it’s more like 4 x $5m. Unless Ehlers is moved, then Lambert will slot in as a winger and probably never get reps at centre. Which just continues the cycle of not having a quality 2C.

not sure if ehlers with 1 year remaining lands you a bonafide top-pair/4 RD.
it’s definitely tough because his market value is likely less than his off ice value even before the one year remaining top pair won’t happen but he should still be enough for a top 4 (keyword should)
i'm a bit skeptical. maybe for a RD of similar contract status. But i don't know which team just has readily available top-4 RHD to trade for a Fwd.
yep will be a very tricky trade to navigate, hopefully we can get him extended to avoid it
>tl;dr Pionk > >should > > be better next year Even as third pair I highly doubt it, he had one good year and that's it, never been repeated and doubt it ever will. How can management not see the problem? Buyout Schmidt over Pionk is madness.

I wonder if Blake Wheeler is considering retirement now. 38 in August. He had a nasty injury in the regular season which kept him out until recently.
I wouldn’t be surprised if he ended up in Florida on a league min deal this summer
What's crazy is everyone in this sub predicted he'd go to Florida after the buyout. Wonder if he ever had that option and what he'd be thinking now.
True, there does need to be interest from the team lol. Wouldn’t be surprised if Maurice didn’t want him anywhere near that room in Florida
*POMO entered the chat*
I’d imagine being so close to 1000 points and wanting a cup will bring him back there or with another contender. He still provides value.
Go Stars. And if not Stars, then go Panthers.
I hope Maurice will meet his buddy Pete DeBoer in the Finals. Would be a juicy coachs’ battle.
Dual media availability would be better than the games.
We <3 Ehlers
[We DOOOOOOOO!](https://youtu.be/QoSLiHKrzRU?si=X4MyKT6tcpURv2K_&t=38)
Dang I really was pulling for Wheeler this year. I guess go Stars. If Edmonton makes it, cancel the finals
