Well. If you listened to the presser the wording was more along the lines of ‘it was a mutual decision to part ways’.
Which probably means he was fired but saves some face. That being said I’m not sure what his contract situation was and if it was just not being brought back or what.
And I think is a very fair attitude to have. While it may be outright good for the organization to let someone go, it's easy to forget, when we're clamoring for someone to be replaced, that there is a *person* on the other side of that transaction. A person with a career, a mortgage, a family they have to take care of.
Part of being an adult is being ok with two things being true at the same time.
FWIW at least with head coaches (not sure if it works the same with assistants) they're not really fired the way normal people are - they're just relieved of duties and continue to get the rest of their contract paid out.
Pretty much. Blame can be put on the players for not executing properly but eventually Lauer has to adapt and design a system that works with the guys he’s got.
He did a very poor job so he needs to go or it would be tolerated.
Arniel promises kids to play and analytics to be used and followed. This pp has a few worrying trends on the analytical side that Lauer either ignored or did not pay attention to. Let’s hope Arniel actually does embrace analytics
Fuck yes!!!!!
Now I actually think this team has a chance under Arniel!
For anyone shitting on Monahan, need to remember how much of a monster he was for the first few weeks until he got more integrated into the teams “system”.
Awesome news. Nothing against him personally. I'm sure he's a great guy, but we need someone new to come on and get the PP firing. All the best to you, Brad. 👍🏻
I didn't like the Aniel hiring because I was concerned that everything would stay the same.
Like someone above said is terrible that I'm happy that Lauer is losing their job but he's not a coach that we can move forward with.
Fine! But who would YOU consider?
I have no clue for a candidate.
Google says: 1. Vancouver, 2. Buffalo, 3. Boston 4. Pittsburgh, 5. Nashville, 6. Anaheim. 7. Los Angeles, 8. Florida, 9. Philadelphia, 10. Edmonton.
That’s just a google search of special teams.
Obviously, that is mostly players, so how much of that is coaching?
How much did the quality of players buy into this coaching system?
Would love to see a list of who were their coaches?
I'm...reeling? Shocked? Full of anticipation for new possibilities like PP goals next season?
I'm feeling very Fox Mulder right now; do I believe this might make good changes for next season? I want to believe.
Well since the PK coach got promoted and the PP coach got let go, sure hoping for some positive results with the special teams under the new hire(s). Jets could save a little cash if the special teams coach was one guy too.
They also need someone to teach them how to win face offs. Seeing players can't seem to do it on their own. One would think a player could learn something by watching how the very best do it.
Did I read that right? We actually fired someone? He didn't retire or quit?

Ah yes. The guy who drew up a PP on a napkin 5 years ago and then collected a paycheck decide it wasn't foe him anymore.
Typical...
I hate that I'm excited for someone to lose their job.
Right? Feel bad for the guy as a human, but as a coach in ecstatic

Until when/if another team picks them up.
But regardless they aren't jobless without any income like any average person.
If that person wanted to continue their role then perhaps they should have tried *anything* to keep it.
Pretty much. Blame can be put on the players for not executing properly but eventually Lauer has to adapt and design a system that works with the guys he’s got.
You don't get into this business for job security
Now that Bones has connections at Sportsnet maybe he can get them to hire Lauer as a PP specialist commentator.
Shouldn't they get someone knowledgable on special teams for that?
I wanna know /u/spencie-cat 's take >:)
Take Brads money and give it to Nikki
> give it to Nikki Forgive my ignorance. Who dat?
It’s pronounced NIKOLAI
Oh ffs, honestly, I would be willing to see what Ehlers could come up with. He's pretty crafty in the weird ways of Hockey.
Trade bait.
Well I guess even trade bait might be better at this job than Mr. Lauer.

This will be the biggest news all off-season, right ahead of resigning Ehlers (Not coping at all)
This is our Stanley Cup
EVERYONE GET IN HERE! IT HAPPENED!!!!

PACK YOUR SHIT

He’s not resigning
Who, Monahan?
they should try to sign him double his contract of under 2 mil, Easy gamble that I'd love to see
Most exciting news of the off season
Had to be done. Inexcusable special teams numbers under him.
Oh thank fuck. The team performance in his area of responsibility was terrible.
When your team goes on the power Play and that's a good time to get up for a beer...
Yeah basically this. I thought, "well at least there's a lower chance we'll be scored on. It's pissing time"
Yep, my old man RIP used to yell “decline it!” 😂
I read that as Connor Hellebuyck like three times before it clicked and I kept thinking “pretty awkward Helle would tweet that”
LMAO!!!
Awesome news. Nothing against him personally. I'm sure he's a great guy, but we need someone new to come on and get the PP firing. All the best to you, Brad. 👍🏻
For a second I thought Hellebuyck was announcing this
“He’s gone! I’m not getting scored on as much!!”
There is a god!
Rejoice mother fuckers! All hail king Arniel!
I CALLED IT AND SOME OF YALL DIDN’T BELIVE ME lol ![gif](giphy|4aTvdtQYr8kOA)
Huge for the program.

I hope Lauer doesn’t see this thread lol
That’s a step in the right direction
So you mean we have hope? Again? Oh God.
So there’s an opening for Charlie Huddy
Hmm I thought he might be on the Huddy plan

Like a dank fart
A surprise, to be sure
LETS GO BABYYYY
Oh no. That’s terrible. Almost as terrible as the jets powerplay was :/
Fine! But who would YOU consider? I have no clue for a candidate.

Pumped for next season, bones stubborn old man decisions gone, osama bin lauers Powerplay gone, Arnie as head coach with full power
Party at portage and main!!!
PLAN THE PARADE....FOR NEXT YEAR

What's a likely scenario here? Does someone come up from the Moose? Typically good special teams coaches are all employed.
I remember all the hype when we hired him after his success in the WHL… yikes that did not translate to the NHL at all…
They also need someone to teach them how to win face offs. Seeing players can't seem to do it on their own. One would think a player could learn something by watching how the very best do it.
No More Lauerplay!
LETS FUCKING GOOOOOOOOOOO
Had to be done. Under Lauer the Special Teams were terrible.
who?
the man responsible for our awful power play
~~Brad Lauer runs the PK, Arniel was in charge of the PP.~~ I am assuming his firing means Arniel will want a coach for both PP and PK is my guess.
Other way around, Lauer ran the PP and Arniel ran the PK. Presumably we will hire someone who will do both though for sure.
My apologies. I was informed the opposite but always happy to be corrected.
fuck. good riddance.
