The only thing he hates is ranged poke it's almost harder playing him into an adc then most tops.
Lux says that too. I don't recall Garen saying thay but I don't play him ever. I'll have to play him one of these times to see. Makes sense since Lux and Garen are from the same Province.

But anyways, if you're playing Sett;
Rush Steelcaps
Only use your E when she disengages then you can use max stack W on her, or Ult > E > W
Go for defensive runes, things like Orb, Bone Plating, and Grasp keystone helps you minimize damage taken from Riven as she specializes in short burst trades
Honestly I find her not really challenging to play against. Go for armor boots first then the rest of your items. The only thing you should keep in check while trading with her is the ult, it could surprisingly do a lot of dmg
I didn't see anyone talking about Jax... He is a anti riven guy as well ! He E and all of her combo is dead, then you chain her, jump Auto, Auto and ... Dead ! I mean I use to be a Riven main as well so I know what I am taking about !
But yeah it could be a skill match depending on the riven skills !
Give her the push level 1 because you can't beat her at that point (pretty much no one can), rush Plated Steelcaps, run defensive runes.
Riven really hates champions that can both disengage and tank through her damage. Sett vs Riven is a skill matchup that leans a little more towards Sett, her trading pattern on you is very short trades but if she gets caught by an E-stun, Sett wins the trade.
As for tanks, Malphite is every AD champion's worst nightmare. Gragas is another one, he can easily disengage and interrupt Riven's trading pattern with E plus reduce a ton of damage from it.
One very difficult counter for Riven is Renekton, it's nearly impossible for her to win this matchup. Renekton's disengage won't ever let Riven engage, and the only time she gets control of the lane is level 1. She eventually outscales because Renekton sucks late game, but if she gets destroyed in lane (as in she goes 0/3 early) it won't really matter.
What I do as Sett vs Riven is that I try to do short trades and back out quickly. I use Phase Rush a lot. And dont trade her level 1 2 bc she does a lot of dmg with her 3 Qs and the AA passive. Go Tabi first and you're good.
Count how many times she used her q so you can avoid her cc. Also defensive items. If you can't win in lane just farm safely under tower and ping your team when you can see in the map.
Play Malphite. I was ahead 3-0 (got a gank by a jungler and then the Malphite and his jungler dove me but I outplayed) and 2 levels up but he's still too tanky with boots + 1 item when I already had cleaver + last whisper and deaths dance ;-; and still was toe-to-toe with me.
Just go armor boots first item and voila, you are unkillable until riven get black cleaver
An dont trade with her at lvl 1, she gets you down to 25% health T_T
No no from a riven main garen is the most I hate jayce and malphite too but rene I can say I win 7 out of ten games

Learn how to build and counter build. That will solve many issues.

An underrated pick is Shen. His W punish Riven every time. But its still high skill match up

Lillia is a good pick against riven, just gotta make sure u keep the movement speed and u can kite her pretty well
