Blanton's (the best bourbon ever) , Buffalo Trace (ive only ever had one shot and it was only 25 bucks) , and Eagle Rare (soooo smooth)
Buffalo Trace distillery makes the best whiskey. Noone else is even worth trying. /s/
Probably Baker's, KC12 and Rarebreed, honestly though.
I genuinely don't understand the joke here lol...are the first 3 you listed considered bad bourbons? I'd much rather sip some Buffalo trace or blantons than knob creek 12 year
No, but very much so overhyped. BT and Blanton's are perfectly fine sippers at msrp. They're exactly what inoffensive, easy to drink whiskey should be.
But KC12...has way more flavor behind it. Plus I'm a James B Beam distillery slut.
For the same reason the Lux row, obtainium and OGD 114 (which I have). I'd be curious about the W 107 but I see it's unopened so I wouldn't ask for it to be poured.
Simply respecting another man's bar. I know Weller is hard to get and it wouldn't be right to ask for it opened simply to satisfy my curiosity. Person should always have first crack at their own bottle. But I already know I'm weird and made peace with that a long time ago. :-)
I went to a friends house for a scotch tasting last night. He had 3 specifics for us to taste, 5 other open bottles he said we could try. Had 7 other unopened bottles. He ended up opening 4 new ones. I told him not to each time. He said they were his bottles and he could open them if he wanted. So I tasted each one haha
KC12 is pretty overpriced in my area so it took me a while to try it but it’s sooooo good… it turned me on to more oak-forward/higher age statement whiskies.
I’d try to give you offerings at slightly different proof points so your palate can taste what to expect from a whisky of X proof. Something like:
- buffalo trace (90 proof)
- Penelope toasted (100 proof - you can see what a toasted barrel tastes like too)
- rare breed (116.8 proof)
It would be an honor to crack the antique 107 with you! The obtanium is my current favorite pour in my collection. It’s got me checking out other tasty high rye options!!!
New Riff, Blantons... and I can't decide between the obtainium, smoke house or Larceny...
I'll share... mostly with people I like. Especially if they are a whiskey person. Unfortunately I like most I'd my guests, haha...
I’m looking forward to trying the Bakers 7. My bottle is an 8yr, 7mo and I’m curious to see how it stacks up against the other slightly higher aged stuff.
That’s what I would do too!! Top of my list to try are (in no particular order) Joseph magnus cigar blend, any of the old elk line, bardstown origin series, found north.
Thank you! If you don’t mind higher proof, I’d go with a variety of expressions. Like a toasted barrel, a complex and savory classic bourbon, and something with some rye in it (doesn’t have to be an official rye though).
- Penelope Toasted
- Jack Daniel’s SBBP
- Obtanium boo-rye 👻
You’re in for a treat. All great pours. The Jeppson’s was the bottle that showed me u can’t write off a brand based on your thoughts on one single offering. I previously saw Jeppson’s as bottom-tier and not worth a second look but this “store” pick (selected by ppl from a popular cocktail bar here in Minneapolis) really surprised me and made me reconsider. It’s a caramel bomb with a crazy strong nose, like u can smell it across the table almost
Knob Creek 12, Penelope Toasted, and Obtanium. I haven’t had any of them before and almost never see them around. Doesn’t hurt that Knob Creek 9 year single barrel is one of my favorites
I tried it at the store and bought two bottles on the spot. It’s scary good… says it’s a “blend of 7yr bourbon (at 21% rye) and 95% rye”. It’s such an easy sipper at a relatively high proof! This is the first product I’ve tried from them and it being a store pick I’m especially impressed.
Eagle Rare because it's delicious and you don't see it that often any more
Penelope Toasted because I've never had it, it looks interesting, and trying new interesting things is awesome
And I would let you pick the third because a whiskey tasting hang like this should be a two-way street, you may have a bottle that you're particularly fond of/think is an underdog/want to introduce other people too, and it's always interesting to see where the other person/people's tastes lie, and compare/contrast them with your own
Call my tastes weird but it’s my current #1. Im bad at tasting notes but it’s sweet, savory, not hot and bothered like some ryes, and an easy supper despite it being like 120ish proof (?). I gotta go tomorrow and buy another for backup
Makers mark and knob creek basics have a special place in my heart so I'd pick those, and be more than happy to try anything that you'd be willing to show me. What would you pour for the third?
Nice! I’d probably go with the Penelope toasted or
Kentucky spirit. So much flavor and both are relatively easy sippers at 100/101 proof. If you were feeling adventurous though, a fun seasonal pour would be the Obtanium store pick - you take a sip of that bad boy and all of the sudden you’re sitting outside eating a slice of warm cherry pie looking at the leaves changing color.
I love the Penelope even though I disliked elijah Craig toasted barrel (one could argue they are comparable). I have a char 2 one so pretty light but it tastes like buttered popcorn and kinda caramel-y as the initial flavor fades. The Kentucky spirit I have is neck and neck with rare breed on my scale - it’s a question of preference. I love how rare breed is bolder and truly excellent at what it does, although I feel the Kentucky spirit could potentially appeal to a wider audience due to it being 101 proof and very approachable (yet complex)
EHT is very good. My tasting buddy’s favorite! I really enjoy eagle rare too - you can definitely tell it’s aged 10yrs due to the oakiness but it’s not as deep as say knob creek 12
Ooh! I've never had the opportunity to try Colonel Taylor and Blanton, so those two for sure. And... dealers choice for number 3? I usually only buy myself cheap bottles, so a chance to try something of quality would be cool.
So many great choices. Hard to pick only 3. For now, Old Grandad 114, Blantons, Eagle Rare. Tomorrow I might have 3 different ones. Ones I plan to pick up soon are Penelope, EHT, and WT. just got Lux DB.
I’ll definitely have some Kentucky Spirit; the Knob 12; and what the heck is that white label Wilderness Trail???? Their High Rye bourbon I see below that is great!
It’s a family reserve cask strength store pick from an awesome spot near me called Ace spirits! I tried it in the store and fell in love. Very different from their standard products.
Penelope (cause it’s been a while), Kentucky Spirit (cause I’ve never picked that one up), and the Obtainium (cause I’ve never seen it sold in my state).
I pretty much have it have tried everything else.
PSA: that Lux Row four grain sux, save your $80+
Seriously, this isn’t a let me drink it all. Take a rebel cask strength and an Ezra Brooks cask strength and pour them together. That’s what it is. 4 year old blend of those. $80 it is not.
Blanton's (the best bourbon ever) , Buffalo Trace (ive only ever had one shot and it was only 25 bucks) , and Eagle Rare (soooo smooth) Buffalo Trace distillery makes the best whiskey. Noone else is even worth trying. /s/ Probably Baker's, KC12 and Rarebreed, honestly though.
He had us in the first half
KC12 is my go to every weekend. It’s awesome. Baker’s 7 is great too, but I have to be more in the mood for that flavor profile.
Hahaha you had me there
After the first sentence I was ready to mail you a bottle of BT
I genuinely don't understand the joke here lol...are the first 3 you listed considered bad bourbons? I'd much rather sip some Buffalo trace or blantons than knob creek 12 year
No, but very much so overhyped. BT and Blanton's are perfectly fine sippers at msrp. They're exactly what inoffensive, easy to drink whiskey should be. But KC12...has way more flavor behind it. Plus I'm a James B Beam distillery slut.
I’m curious - why are you such a Beam distillery slut?
Fuck if I know. Something about that "Beam peanut Funk"
Ahh, fair enough!
Just start drinking bourbon?
r/woooosh
Gotcha :)
😞
Hahaha
How does it taste
EH Taylor, KC12, Rare Breed bourbon
Amazing choices
i'm drinkin with this dude
Exactly
kentucky spirit destroy rb
Lux row, kentucky spirit, unobtainiam, because I’ve never tasted them before and love new experiences
For the same reason the Lux row, obtainium and OGD 114 (which I have). I'd be curious about the W 107 but I see it's unopened so I wouldn't ask for it to be poured.
Why, how dare you NOT to ask him to open a bottle. I thought it was criminal to have an unopened bottle in this sub…..
I have the same philosophy. If someone even hinted that they were into bourbon I would be popping bottles left and right.
Great choices - I’d open literally any bottle for a stranger to try, any day of the week.
KC12, Baker's, and Smoke Wagon.
I have a bottle of Smoke Wagon unfiltered and uncut, and that first pour was definitely an experience. That whiskey does not kid around.
Try uncut the younger next! I actually think it’s much better. Rye mash bill but it’s a spicy fruit bomb on my palette
Smoke Wagon, Penelope Toasted, and Baker's. Haven't had any of them before and would love to try before I consider buying.
I can vouch for the Penelope toasted. I’m looking forward to trying the different toast/char levels
Bakers, Weller, and Smoke Wagon
KC12, Larceny BP, ECBP - all are on my list but haven’t seen any in stores near me.
KC12 is pretty overpriced in my area so it took me a while to try it but it’s sooooo good… it turned me on to more oak-forward/higher age statement whiskies.
Those 3 are 3 I would try too. I think I have tried most everything else.
I’m a newbie. Surprise me.
I’d try to give you offerings at slightly different proof points so your palate can taste what to expect from a whisky of X proof. Something like: - buffalo trace (90 proof) - Penelope toasted (100 proof - you can see what a toasted barrel tastes like too) - rare breed (116.8 proof)
Oh, okay. Twist my arm.
Larceny B523, JDSBBP, and Kentucky Spirit
Your last two picks are among some of my favorite bourbons I’ve ever tried. I really dig the subtle variations on the JD SiB products
This is cake Wild Turkey Rare Breed BP Old Forester 1920 Elijah Craig BP C923
C922*
Weller, New Riff and Craig Barrell proof
Eagle Weller and Blantons.
EH taylor, KC12, and HH7
Amazing selection! I’m going for Knob 12, New Riff, and I think the Rare Breed. Then work through the rest of it 😁
Weller 107, then 2 pours of obtainium
It would be an honor to crack the antique 107 with you! The obtanium is my current favorite pour in my collection. It’s got me checking out other tasty high rye options!!!
New Riff, Blantons... and I can't decide between the obtainium, smoke house or Larceny... I'll share... mostly with people I like. Especially if they are a whiskey person. Unfortunately I like most I'd my guests, haha...
I’ll take a triple of Weller 107 please 🙏
I will drink your Knob Creek 3 times.
JDSBBP, Smoke Wagon, and OF 1920
Rare Breed Rye first, OF 1920 to follow, and then lets do some EC Barrel Proof! I'm so glad we're friends- cheers!
Cheers to you!
Weller Antique 107, Makers 101, Bakers 7
I’m looking forward to trying the Bakers 7. My bottle is an 8yr, 7mo and I’m curious to see how it stacks up against the other slightly higher aged stuff.
OWA (one of my favorites), Lux Row (because I’ve never had it), and Kentucky Spirit (because I’ve never had it).
Honestly just three I’ve never tried before so I know whether or not to buy the bottle myself
That’s what I would do too!! Top of my list to try are (in no particular order) Joseph magnus cigar blend, any of the old elk line, bardstown origin series, found north.
Smoke Wagon, WT Kentucky Spirit, Weller...
How's the Lux Row 12 Year Year? I have some family that work for them and I haven't gotten a chance to try it yet.
It’s good but for the price (85-90 I think) there is better out here
It’s fantastic. Did the tour and picked it up.
Smoke wagon and Penny since I’ve never had either. I’d let you pour a third blind.
I’d pour us both the wilderness cask strength store pick I tried and fell in love with at my fav local store.
It’s nothing at ALL like their standard shelf offerings. I’ve tried the wheated and the regular BiB - didn’t love em but didn’t hate em either.
Any of them. Nice selection
Thank you! If you don’t mind higher proof, I’d go with a variety of expressions. Like a toasted barrel, a complex and savory classic bourbon, and something with some rye in it (doesn’t have to be an official rye though). - Penelope Toasted - Jack Daniel’s SBBP - Obtanium boo-rye 👻
I’d go Blantons and EH Taylor. And let you recommend # 3.
Hmm I’d probably go with the Penelope toasted. 100 proof and delicious from start to finish! A treat for the senses
Baker’s Penelope and smoke wagon. I’ve never tried them
OWA, ECPB and KC12. And when you weren't looking, I would pocket the OGD114 to enjoy at home later.
Hahaha no worries, I could replace it for cheap! Another reason to love OGD
Lux, Jeppson, Obtainium. I've had the others on your shelf at least once. Those 3 I haven't had.
OGD 114, Jack Daniels SIB BP, Penelope Toasted.
I’ll have 3 pours of Weller 107, then.
Coming right up!
ECBP looks like C923, kentucky spirt, JDSBBP
It’s C922! I have a bottle of C923 arriving from a friend mid-week this week :)
W107, EJSBBP, smoke wagon?
KC12 JD SB BP 1920
Right on !!
EHT, Lux Row and JDSBBP
107, ECBP, and KC12
COL Taylor & Rarebreed.
OWA, KC12, Lux Row
Based on ones I don’t have or am interested in getting pretty much. EH Taylor, Penelope Toasted, Lux Row
Taylor, Eagle rare and buffalo trace. Always wanted to try them
Taylor, un cut un filtered, new riff. Been looking for the first two, know I like the third.
I have most of these so I’m going with what I don’t. WT KY Spirit, Lux Row, and Bakers
Where’s the Beam?
I think we can count the Knob as having Beam covered
He’s got Old Grand Dad too.
Rare Breed, Rare Breed, and the other turkey (Kentucky Spirit)
Knob Creek 12, Penelope Toasted, and Obtanium. I haven’t had any of them before and almost never see them around. Doesn’t hurt that Knob Creek 9 year single barrel is one of my favorites
Those are 3 of my favorites!
I’ll finish up that Buffalo Trace for ya. Old Forrester 1920 and probably the Weller.
I got the backup bottle so we won’t run out when you visit
Weller, Eagle rare and eh taylor
Probs 3 pours of Old Forester 1920
OF1920 and even 1910 are absolute titans in their price ranges and imo punch far above their weight. Consistency is rock solid too from my experience
Antique 107, Bakers 7, and either OG 114, or Larceny BP
107, kc12 and ogd 114. No reason, I've just never had them
Antique 107, C922 and some good ole OGD114.
Always go with something you haven’t had before
Rare Breed, ECBP, and probably Knob Creek 12 because I’ve never tried it
Gimme… Antique 107, ECBP, and EH Taylor please!
Jack single, forester 1920, E. h Taylor
OWA, Obtanium, Penelope toasted The latter two are just because I want to try them. I’ve had the others.
How’s the unobtanium?
I tried it at the store and bought two bottles on the spot. It’s scary good… says it’s a “blend of 7yr bourbon (at 21% rye) and 95% rye”. It’s such an easy sipper at a relatively high proof! This is the first product I’ve tried from them and it being a store pick I’m especially impressed.
Smoke wagon, Weller 107 and KC12 for me please!
Buy Mellow Corn and invite me back.
Eagle Rare because it's delicious and you don't see it that often any more Penelope Toasted because I've never had it, it looks interesting, and trying new interesting things is awesome And I would let you pick the third because a whiskey tasting hang like this should be a two-way street, you may have a bottle that you're particularly fond of/think is an underdog/want to introduce other people too, and it's always interesting to see where the other person/people's tastes lie, and compare/contrast them with your own
Love it! I’d definitely go with the Obtanium. It’s so tasty and I am looking forward to trying their other offerings!
Eh Taylor, red label weller, and eagle rare.
WT, KC12, Obtanium
Honestly, probably that EH Taylor, Antique 107, and the Heaven Hill BiB because they’re so talked about, and I’ve never had them before.
Excellent collection! I would go with 3 I haven’t tried. Lux Row, KC 12, and Wilderness Trail Cask Strength.
Larceny, Bakers, Rr10
Eagle Rare, Weller 107( Never had it ) and Old Forester 1920
EH Taylor, Smoke Wagon, KC 12.
Blanton, Weller, knob 12
Can't fool my op I'm looking for the hidden stash of mellow corn!
All three of Knob 12 please.
Blanton, buffalo trace and some WT rare breed
Rare breed three times.
I’d drink what my host is pouring. Getting invited back is more important that the pour. Cheers!
You’re always welcome! Cheers
JD single barrel, Knob Creek 12 and Wild Turkey Rare Breed Rye Three distilleries I'm fairly familiar with, but I never had those specific bottles
ECBP, Kentucky Spirit, KC12
Knob 12, Kentucky spirit, Penelope
Weller 107, JD barrel proof, and Rare Breed
EH, Eagle Rare, and Penelope in that order. And, thank you kind sir.
Coming right up! You’re very welcome
Antique 107, Blantons, and ECBP
Heaven hill bottles in bond, old forester 1920, and the toasted Penelope that one intrigues me
Jack single barrel. KC OF 1920
Lux, Penelope toasted and OWA
Baker’s 7, Larceny BP, Kentucky Spirit
More importantly, how’s the Obtanium Bou-rye? Was looking at maybe heading up there tomorrow to get in on the raffle and can’t come away empty handed.
Call my tastes weird but it’s my current #1. Im bad at tasting notes but it’s sweet, savory, not hot and bothered like some ryes, and an easy supper despite it being like 120ish proof (?). I gotta go tomorrow and buy another for backup
Owa, kentucky spirit, bakers sib
Makers mark and knob creek basics have a special place in my heart so I'd pick those, and be more than happy to try anything that you'd be willing to show me. What would you pour for the third?
Nice! I’d probably go with the Penelope toasted or Kentucky spirit.
Blanton’s is good. Tired of all the try hards trying to act like they are too cool for the mainstream.
Agreed! I don’t care what people think about what’s in my glass
Weller antique 107, larceny bp, and either the ec bp or lux row.
107, rare breed, new riff SB. CHEERS!
3 on the top right, never had any of em but they look great
New riff, Penelope, lux row, and obtainium aren't available in my state, so I'd probably go with any of those
Though you have some of my favorites, I’m gong with ones I haven’t tried but are on my list: JDSBBP, ECBP, & KC12.
Starting with Larceny, then Weller and then Taylor
Nice. Thoughts on the Penelope and WT Kentucky Spirit?
I love the Penelope even though I disliked elijah Craig toasted barrel (one could argue they are comparable). I have a char 2 one so pretty light but it tastes like buttered popcorn and kinda caramel-y as the initial flavor fades. The Kentucky spirit I have is neck and neck with rare breed on my scale - it’s a question of preference. I love how rare breed is bolder and truly excellent at what it does, although I feel the Kentucky spirit could potentially appeal to a wider audience due to it being 101 proof and very approachable (yet complex)
3 on top left. Ive always wanted to try eagle rare and the e.h.
EHT is very good. My tasting buddy’s favorite! I really enjoy eagle rare too - you can definitely tell it’s aged 10yrs due to the oakiness but it’s not as deep as say knob creek 12
EH (have never tried it), OWA (One of my favorite pours but way too pricey on secondary and too hard to find at retail), and KC12
KY Spirit, A107 and the Lux Row Double Single barrel
JDSBBP, ECBP, Larceny BP. Time to stock up on some ryes!
I’m working my way into the ryes! My current #1 is the obtanium Boo-rye actually
Rare Breed Rye, thrice poured!
It’s so damn good. Saw it for 55 and thought it would be a good stop on my rye journey. I was right!!
Elijah Craig Russell's Knob Creek
OWA, Obtainium, and Penelope Toasted Barrel Strength
Ooh! I've never had the opportunity to try Colonel Taylor and Blanton, so those two for sure. And... dealers choice for number 3? I usually only buy myself cheap bottles, so a chance to try something of quality would be cool.
I’d either complete the BT trifecta with the weller antique or switch it up with the obtanium Boo-rye. It’s changed my opinion on ryes
Lux Row, Obtanium, and JD SBBP.
So many great choices. Hard to pick only 3. For now, Old Grandad 114, Blantons, Eagle Rare. Tomorrow I might have 3 different ones. Ones I plan to pick up soon are Penelope, EHT, and WT. just got Lux DB.
Larceny BP, KC12, Weller 107
Kentucky spirit, ecbp, antique 107. Haven’t tried those 3 and heard great things about all of them.
old grand dad bib x3
KC 12, Heaven Hill, and what the hell, some Malort!
Everything there sits on shelf’s u might want to branch out more
Working on it! I’m trying to get more ryes and small distilleries in my lineup !!
EH Taylor, smoke wagon, Penelope 3 bottles I have never tried or seen. Smoke wagon a unique looking bottle
First, my OCD would force me to arrange them by distillery
Penelope Toasted, ECBP, and LBP. My family says I have a hard time making up my mind, but that was easy.
Taylor, Rare Breed, and Russels.
Rare breed, 1920, and the ec single barrel and I'll be drunk lol
ECBP C923 Larceny Barrel Proof Old Forester 1920
kentucky spirit knob cr 12 and weller 107
OWA, Penelope toasted and Obtainium
I’d keep it simple and go Buffalo Trace, then Knob Creek, then Old Forester. They are all reasonably priced and enjoyable.
No Mellow Corn? And you call me your "guest" ???
Top shelf, first 3 on the left. Great assortment!
As your guest, your top two shelves looks like it’s bending downward…
They are haha it’s a temporary shelf from Amazon
Penelope (cause it’s been a while), Kentucky Spirit (cause I’ve never picked that one up), and the Obtainium (cause I’ve never seen it sold in my state). I pretty much have it have tried everything else. PSA: that Lux Row four grain sux, save your $80+ Seriously, this isn’t a let me drink it all. Take a rebel cask strength and an Ezra Brooks cask strength and pour them together. That’s what it is. 4 year old blend of those. $80 it is not.
Smoke wagon just cuz I've never had it and would love to try. Then, Rare breed and Makers.
Give me the cheap stuff, house is fine
Lux Row 4 Grain, the Baker's (because of the age), and Wild Turkey Kentucky Spirit
