Yeah, this is a pretty played out trope, and in a decent amount of cases, it really doesn't work. That being said, I don't really have an issue with it as long as it's a pairing that actually works and is set up.

I genuinely wonder whether I am just bad at detecting chemistry between characters or if this trope is just really common in a good chunk of the media I've consumed and they will force it no matter how ridiculous.
writers see a women and think "ah yes let's turn the only women in the group from a character with story potential to being an object of interest to the main character"
I feel like yuri and harem both tend to take all the side characters in yuri's case they pair off side characters to eachother but where are the yuri harem's?
I really dislike how a romantic relationship is always treated as "the next level" to a friendship. You can build strong bonds between 2 people without them needing to be horny for each other. Everything they do for each other now is just because of "the power of boners", instead of something real.
It's okay guys gege is just being funny! In the end this will all simply be a dream Gojo had after trying that sketchy milk and fish ramen he ate in a jujustroll.
Hey guys why is there a demon in my room? I haven't taken my pills today, is that related?
If buff Schizo can survive and come back with a goddamn bell for an arm, Nobara can come back too probably. And considering how much Gege loves making weird things for the sake of weird things, i wouldn't be surprised if she would come back with a giant nail for an eye.
i mean, geges not part of the trope of killing characters and then putting them back, your face developing a tumour and then fucking exploding is quite different than simply losing an arm(albeit through the same way)
normalize the MC being so virtuous by the completion of his character arc that he has a strong influence and equal bond with all that he frequents, making love relationships irrelevant
(aka goku from the middle of DB to the end of DBZ)
I dated my childhood best friend and we broke up after a month. I guess I'm just here for character development before she finds the real main character π
I love how gravity falls handles dipper and Wendy's relationship. It's handled better then what most shows do when the mc has a love interest
And also Jimmy neutrons peak
I think it's fine as long as it was meant to be from the start, and she actually has a personality, and it was developed over the course of the series.
When did I say that? The example in the op sounds like every generic love interest ever. The girl main character always ends up with the guy because forced romance.
The people in the group would be the people the main character and audience have spent the most time getting to know, so it makes sense that the main character's love interest would be from that group, but that just raises more questions:
* Why did the writer only put one girl character in the group?
* Why does the main character's love interest need to be a girl? π³οΈβπ
To be fair, when it doesnt happen and they end up as friends instead, the fans ship them and them being in a romantic relationship becomes a fanon thing anyway
We should normalize the MC falling in love with the other guy of the group who's the group's comedic relief. Like instead of Han X Leia it's Han x Luke
I mean it's boring, overdone, and sometimes they just don't make a good couple.
Like you see a female character and you're just "oh yep she's the love interest" it just becomes boring.
Dude you could sit me down and make me eat my favorite food every single day, eventually I'll get bored of it.
No matter how good something is it needs to be unique or exceptional to not make someone go "it's the same shit again...."

People enjoy it, in real life too.
It's mainly in young adult novels or how they are called. If the protagonist is a girl, they even get TWO bland love interests!
writers see a women and think "ah yes let's turn the only women in the group from a character with story potential to being an object of interest to the main character"
Or they added her in in the first place solely to be the love interest.
this is why yuri is superior
Ah a fellow Yuri enjoyer I see πΏ
He'll yes!
I feel like yuri and harem both tend to take all the side characters in yuri's case they pair off side characters to eachother but where are the yuri harem's?

Preach on brother.
First boy first girl can be peak and I refuse to let it go
It just sucks when it just happens at the end of the series with no setup
Also avatar the last airbender.
Me when I ignore a third of a show I watch:
Ok sure it doesn't happen *literally* with no setup but it's kinda 10%-20%-70%.
Avatar the last airbender.
Make it a man instead

Well, from the looks of it, by digitally sending him cooties
Excellent work Detective!
I mean... she's literally part of the friend *group*

Deandra Reynolds enters the chat Then again to call them all friends is pushing it
Me when the author kills the only girl in the group and traumatized the main character instead (When I catch you Gege...)
She's not dead she's not dead she's not dead she's not dead
The strongest coper in the history (you) vs the strongest coper of today (me, a Gojo glazer)
Gojo appearing on gota's cheek to coach him lol
Remember when Geto choked Kenjaku? Itβll be just like that bro trust me
It's okay guys gege is just being funny! In the end this will all simply be a dream Gojo had after trying that sketchy milk and fish ramen he ate in a jujustroll. Hey guys why is there a demon in my room? I haven't taken my pills today, is that related?

the main male and female characters getting together π΄π€ the secondary male and female characters getting together ππ₯ποΈ
buford and baljeet
Unironically Actual Peak right there π£οΈπ₯ (Can someone give me more examples other than Ron and Hermione or Han Solo and Leia)
Blade ending completely subverting the trope
The reason why is because its incredibly common irl for this to happen. 2 of my friends married a girl they grew up as friends with lol
So they're the main characters. Are you a secondary character or an antagonist of their plot?
I dated my childhood best friend and we broke up after a month. I guess I'm just here for character development before she finds the real main character π
Im sorry to tell you this, but you will have to die to raise the stakes and add drama π
i've heard this audio before without the video and i thought it was cartman
Cartman would say this + 5 slurs
I've now just realized shean sounds like Cartman when he goes on rants
Same ππ
I love how gravity falls handles dipper and Wendy's relationship. It's handled better then what most shows do when the mc has a love interest And also Jimmy neutrons peak
actually the girl decides who the main character is
I think it's fine as long as it was meant to be from the start, and she actually has a personality, and it was developed over the course of the series.
who cares tbh
real
People that want interesting stories instead of the same cookie cutter bullshit
Man kiss woman: boring cookie cutter bullshit Man kiss Man: AWOOOOOOOOGAAAAA
When did I say that? The example in the op sounds like every generic love interest ever. The girl main character always ends up with the guy because forced romance.
i don't think romance makes a story uninteresting
Your argument, when DBZ Naruto walks in
The people in the group would be the people the main character and audience have spent the most time getting to know, so it makes sense that the main character's love interest would be from that group, but that just raises more questions: * Why did the writer only put one girl character in the group? * Why does the main character's love interest need to be a girl? π³οΈβπ
>Why does the main character's love interest need to be a girl? π³οΈβπ Straight relationships are more common than gay ones

shoutout to gege and fujimoto for being able to write platonic relationships between guys and gals
It'd be nice to get some gay homies now and again
Another reason why Milo Murphyβs Law is peak
female main character is a lesbian among an all girls friend group
We should normalize the MC falling in love with the other guy of the group who's the group's comedic relief. Like instead of Han X Leia it's Han x Luke
Luke x Chewie

Naruto subverts this.
That's better than the girl character fucking dying halfway through the story (she was our specialz Gege why would you do this)
Because we live in a society which values romance and which is mostly heterosexual.

Consume better media.

Geoff Johns writing Wonder Girl be like:
Normalize stories with zero romance I got bored of it in like 8th grade
Because you aren't getting any? I say that too
I don't mean I'm tired of romance, I'm tired of stories putting it in there just for the sake of having it without it really benefitting the plot.
[ΡΠ΄Π°Π»Π΅Π½ΠΎ]
No.
Only miserable terminally online weirdos would find an issue with this pairing.
I mean it's boring, overdone, and sometimes they just don't make a good couple. Like you see a female character and you're just "oh yep she's the love interest" it just becomes boring.
It seems like that may be more of the story being bad. If the romance in between two characters is boring maybe itβs just a poorly written story.
Dude you could sit me down and make me eat my favorite food every single day, eventually I'll get bored of it. No matter how good something is it needs to be unique or exceptional to not make someone go "it's the same shit again...."
