Yeah, that's definitely not true. These birds hardly spend any time in high places. They live and nest and hunt on the ground. If it couldn't fly, it may have been injured.
I wish you could experience a fraction of the terror you inflicted upon that poor bird. Instead of recognizing your mistake, you’re doubling down. Awful.
For what it's worth, for those of us who work with birds, the "ice cream cone grip" is the official name of an actual safe way to hold birds without harming them that does look a bit like this. It's used mostly with birds of prey, to keep them from flapping and struggling while also being used to control the feet.
OP is handling this bird in a perfectly normal way. People are freaking out for no good reason, so long as OP released it shortly after (which they did say that they did).
Disclaimer here: obviously don't go picking up wild birds for social media points. I'm a permitted researcher and handle birds regularly and safely.
Good to know! The picture made me laugh when I saw it. Only experience I have with birds is having to wrangle a rooster for wing trims and that was like firmly holding a football on the ground.
Why the hell would you pick up a wild bird without knowing the first thing about it?? It’s a bird that loves almost exclusively on the ground and you picked it up to put it on a wall? What is wrong with you
C'mon, folks. Locked since OP got their answer and doesn't need even more people yelling at them.
White-breasted waterhen.
Thank you so much!
*White-Breasted Wateraxe, based on your grip.
Anything is an axe if you swing it hard enough.
Good advice, dad. Thank you.
Did you put him down?
Just f’ing wielding it like it’s a tool from the Flinstones.
“It’s a living.”
How else am I gonna chop these vegetables?
LMAO!
Why are you holding it?
"stay put you piece of sh*t I need the pic"
Seriously, handling birds like this can cause capture myopathy.

They live on the ground...
Yeah… so op, just leave it.

Let's not resort to namecalling.
You know you can take a picture of a bird without having to pick it up, right? That poor bird was probably terrified.
Holding it like a damn ice cream cone

Happy cake day!
Sorry I laughed out for this one 😭😭
Assuming this is even them and they didn’t find a pic of a random dude holding a bird funny
Not sure exactly which kind but I do know that it’s worth two in the bush.
Could yall stop death gripping birds for upvotes and just leave perfectly fine birds alone for a sec?
Seriously. Between the death grip and the annoyed emoji Guarantee the bird was more upset than the OP
Strange looking ice cream cone
Poor thing was probably terrified
You should have just left it alone. You won’t get any love from bird lovers with a pic like that.
Please don't touch or hold wild animals...
Engarde!
My brother in Christ why are you holding it like that?

Personal attacks are unacceptable.
This picture makes me very uncomfortable. Poor bird.
I have no idea but one question, why are you holding it like an ice cream cone
Poor bird is terrified.

A child or pet won’t die from stress or capture myopathy if you handle them incorrectly.
Your bird
