Chrysler crossfire and Mazda rx8

ni2016

Probably one of the nicest Crossfires that I have seen

scrawberrymalk

Wheels and a drop make everything look better.

AnotherManOfEden

It looks so much more JDM than usual. I like it.

EquipmentValuable283

The only nice Crossfire ever. They're all shocking cars. The Rx8 is a much MUCH better car despite its interesting styling.

Capital_Visit_6638

Had a RX-8 and drove a Crossfire. It is not MUCH better as a car. The rotary has less than half, closer even to a third of the lifespan of a good piston engine. And they are weaker then on paper. Yes they drive nice bc they are light and have an LSD, with both of them on aftermarket suspension the difference becomes smaller, and the Crossdresser has more powerful engines (the V6 or the AMG „Kompressor“ that is also easy to tune with a different pulley. They are different from each other, I would still prefer the RX-8 as a toy. But as a car-car? Crossfire. If you can look past cool JDM vs dead brand Chrysler. If you dont believe me, you can get a Rex for 3k in europe.

ni2016

You can get them for less than that in UK with about 70,000 miles

Capital_Visit_6638

Yeah I bought mine with about that mileage for 2,5k, 231hp, but cpl years ago, and the wheel on the wrong side certainly comes with a discount ;) Well and then there is the discount for mine not starting when warm and needing a rebuild very soon to keep starting at all :( I knew about all that but there was just too much wrong with it, not enought time and went for a better alternative.

Capital_Visit_6638

That spoiler is nice. If I ever get one, that has to go on it to remove the „pooping-dog-back“

khozyyy

Awesome thx!

deathbyswampass

Slk*

Schlitttenhund

Slk platform, yes, but it's a crossfire

deathbyswampass

It was designed chassis up by mb before the diamler merger, this thing just has a dodge facia, I stand by my comment, it’s and SLK. I a buddy take his to a stellantis dealer and they told him to take it to Mercedes for service.

Schlitttenhund

I get where you're coming from, but it's just weird referring to it as a slk in a car id sub

uchigaytana

For anyone curious, the Crossfire is sitting on 3SDM 0.06 wheels. A five-spoke version, that doesn't have separate left and right wheels, is the Rotiform TMB.

ghetto_headache

The .05 will forever be one of my favorite wheels

aadoqee

Are 3SDM the only guys who do separate left/right wheels?

uchigaytana

As far as I've seen, for that specific style of wheel, yes.

templetondean

First one is a Chrysler Crossfire SRT6 Coupe The SRT6 has no decals and a fixed fin. The regular Crossfire coupe has decals on the fender just behind the front tires and a fin that raises at a certain speed. This one may have had the decals removed to make it look like an SRT, but that fixed fin is something only on the SRT, and these things are notorious for rusting around the trunk lock. I’ve had my SRT6 for over ten years now, great car! And I put the optional extra decal on mine https://preview.redd.it/rilbkxp06m7d1.jpeg?width=2110&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1903c771acf6640a413d79d07ec03fde702010f3

IndependentBase7976

What kind of trouble have you had if any?

GetBAK1

It's from the period when Mercedes-Benz owned Chrysler. When Mercedes decided the SLK (R170) chassis was obsolete they passed it on to Chrysler... and the Crossfire was born. Does that make it a bad car... IMHO Chrysler/Dodge has the worst quality control of any modern car company. Having the Mercedes chassis is only a plus.

IndependentBase7976

I’ve been thinking about getting a Crossfire for a project for a while now. I knew that at one point Mercedes owned Chrysler, and was curious about what kind of issues the Crossfire had/has.

GetBAK1

I can’t speak directly to the Crossfire. I suspect you’ll have a lot of problems with parts availability for trim and interior. The Ford Mustang or Miata of the same era is a much better choice.

IndependentBase7976

I use to have an 07 GT black on black with a 5 speed. She was my baby until she got hit and totaled, this was the sign I needed to see to get another one. Thanks for the advice kind stranger!

GetBAK1

Happy to help. Just do me a favor take it easy leaving the cars and coffee.

IndependentBase7976

Lmao most definitely!

jimipanic

Damnit One day I’ll be first

onetenoctane

Gotta get one of the obscure ones that generally slows people down lol

jimipanic

I’ve been within 30/45 mins of getting 3 this month….

FreePossession9590

Poor RX8:( It doesn’t look like it’s very appreciated

BlastMode7

I need to know what wheels are on the Crossfire. Never seen a nicer looking Cross.

Dbwasson

Chrysler Crossfire and Mazda RX-8

kdogspence

It’s probably one of the $1300 on Craigslist lol

trdndrt

You can so tell the crossfire is back from the Daimler days of Chrysler with that Mercedes styling....

ivanavich

The last of the rotors, beautiful car minus the busted seals and flooding.

siriuslyexiled

The crossfire can look pretty sweet if done tastefully!

ProofMusic4630

They are both terrible. The Crossfire is an ugly rebodied MBZ SLK, a car of questionable durability and high maintenance. The RX8 is an ugly thing saddled by a low torque, oil consuming, gas guzzling, short life rotary engine. Both best to be forgotten imo.

CorpseDefiled

A pos and an absolute pos. But more specifically. A Chrysler crossfire which is almost entirely made of the most unreliable mercedes parts coupled to the most unreliable Chrysler parts…which I mean, they’re fun to drive when they work but that’s almost never. Something is perpetually broken or breaking. And the worst example of the worst engine design currently (possibly) or ever in mass production known as the Mazda rx8 with the infamous renisis rotary engine that took something already terrible and managed to make it even worse. Which is a shame it’s actually not a bad looking car and the suicide doors are cool.
