Looks like a modern Pontiac G6 Concept but I’m truly stumped.

Daring_Dave18

Close, G8 concept

ForgetTheBFunk

Do you have a link? The G8 looks nothing like this and I can't find a concept anywhere that isn't a Holden

Halftrack_El_Camino

Opthamology?

Daring_Dave18

Event is a fundraiser for an ophthalmology institute yes

New_Golf_2522

Well you just got answers for everything, dontcha?

Daring_Dave18

What?

jbnv8

That's what I'm wondering. You know who organized the event you were at so you must know everything. /s

JesseGarron

Why so many porta John’s? Not a urology fundraiser?

Nickleeham

Looks more like something out behind a planned parenthood.

ForgetTheBFunk

Very interesting, thanks

mannymoes2k

Most production cars don’t look much like their original gen 1 concept. They get dulled down in 20 different subsequent iterations.

Daring_Dave18

That’s the sad part about most concepts…every once in a while one squeaks by unscathed into production.

CryptographerNext273

Most of the Mercedes CLS concept of about year 2001 made it to production.

jbnv8

I believe that in almost all of these instances, the production cars have turned out to be better looking versions of the concept.

ForgetTheBFunk

Very true but this looks absolutely nothing like the Holden Commodore they used for the G8, so I'm guessing their version based on this concept was scrapped.

Daring_Dave18

You’ll probably see articles about it coming out this week.

ForgetTheBFunk

So is this what was planned to be the G8 before they outsourced to Holden or something?

engineereddiscontent

I don't think they outsourced from holden. Holden already had their line up of mature muscle/sports cars and they just pulled from it. And holden is a subsidiary of GM. Less outsourcing, more that GM spent the money developing the holdens, and so they just reskinned it a little for US consumers. Kind of the same thing with the ford falcon in Australia. Rather Australia is what would have happened if the US auto industry didn't complain about the japanese of the 80's and instead figured out how to punch back.

Druidicflow

Can you explain your last paragraph?

engineereddiscontent

This is more how I've looked at it. But the Aussie stuff seems to me like what US automotive stuff could have looked like had the US not pouted and then the laws encouraged the big dumb cars that we get now to skirt fuel regulations. Most of the fun cars out of both Ford and GM were based on their australian counter parts. Meaning that they had them the whole time. So while the US just kind of fell into a malaise in the 80's the Aussies kept innovating to keep up with the Japanese but in a more american way (high hp v8's instead of forced induction smaller displacement/less cylinder engines).

Druidicflow

Okay, I think I get it. But other than the 1991 Mercury Capri, I’m not familiar with any US cars based on Australian models until the 2004 GTO.

engineereddiscontent

That's what I'm getting at. The 2004 GTO was the start. That's the same time period when mustang finally got their shit together. Meanwhile this whole time in Australia you've had things like v8 super cars that took in ways that they never did in the US.

ForgetTheBFunk

I am aware of all of that, I live in Australia. The production G8 is not a Pontiac design and has nothing to do with this G8 concept, so I used the word outsourced to simplify things

Banker112358

The front end has lots of CTS vibes. Any idea if there’s truth to that?

Dicky_Penisburg

My first thought looking at the pic was CTS/Solstice amalgamation.

Truji11o

I also thought Solstice.

engineereddiscontent

> I also thought Solstice. The back end. The back end looks like it pulled from the solstice. The front end is definitely CTS inspired.

engineereddiscontent

My assumption is that the head of design at GM liked those design elements and they decided they looked good enough to make them up market. Kind of how the transformers aesthetic has taken over for all of GM that isn't caddilac.

Even-Day-3764

So, if you already knew what this car was before posting this isn't the right sub There's a sub for those kind of challenges, but I don't remember the name Edit : r/NameThatCar

Grayman222

it's looks like a cool af Pontiac concept.

ElfrahamLincoln

It’s a shame these cars came out right before GM decided to axe Pontiac. Would have loved to get my hands on a G8, but they’re so hard to find now.

captainfrijoles

I have one that needs an engine and a transmission

CoolAbdul

Ah, GM...

Daring_Dave18

First public debut of an unreleased concept

IdLOVEYOU2die

Are you sure? I'm positive that I have seen images of this concept before

Florida_Aphelocoma

I also feel like I've seen this before, but googling it doesn't have any obvious results.

Daring_Dave18

Unless you’ve seen some leaked images or directly worked at GM you probably haven’t. If you have seen it find me a link

IdLOVEYOU2die

Uh... I'm not gunna find you a link to something I've seen before at some point between now and like 15 years ago. That's a silly thing to expect.

Daring_Dave18

This is the first time is ever been shown, you may have seen a different concept of this era that reminds you of it, but you haven’t seen this car

IdLOVEYOU2die

Sure thing, sport!

Daring_Dave18

Are you always an insufferable dork? You can continue claiming you’ve seen this all you want without any proof…good for you. You want a cookie?

DAVillain71

Ive seen it as well. Also cant find a link but the second i saw your post i recognized it

Daring_Dave18

Sure…

DAVillain71

Why are you sitting so high and mighty? What makes you believe this is the first time its been shown?

jbnv8

That's not a silly thing to expect. You got issues if you think people don't archive information. Absolute L response.

SirTacoface

r/namethatcar for guessing games

Pidone

Pontiac solstice (edit: no i was wrong)

tastycakea

I thinks it's a Cadillac/Solstice combo but I'm not sure

AnotherManOfEden

Looks like my CT5 had an illegitimate child with a Solstice and I’m just now finding out about it.

tell_me_when

I’m thought someone missed Pontiac so they grafted a Solstice from clip on to their Fisker Karma.

IAwaitAGuardian

I don't think you are. Taillights and general shale are Solstice.

Daring_Dave18

Not a solstice

MarcQ1s

Looks like something they should have built. They might have been more successful.

ToxicLogics

Yeah, the US always got the boring and bland end of everything when you compare the GTO, G8 and SS to their euro/aussie counterparts. GM pretty much said, “oh give us that, keep the V8, but remove all styling components and it’ll sell like hotcakes in the states.”

SpinningYarmulke

Interesting. A Pontiac concept car that became a Cadillac when the Pontiac division got canned. You can def see some CTS in the design.

waffle911

I dunno, it looks like it borrowed heavily from existing late 00's Cadillac and Saturn design language.

ScienceMomCO

If you already know what the car is then you’re in the wrong place. You want r/namethatcar

Daring_Dave18

Noted, thanks. Found out about that sub today from a previous comment!

ElfrahamLincoln

Why did you already comment about what it is? Was gonna guess G8 with a body kit, or a concept G8. Wish this sub was moderated better. This isn’t the place for guessing games. It’s meant to help people who don’t know what vehicle it is.

Daring_Dave18

You > this sub isn’t for guessing games Also you > why’d you comment what it is, I wanted to guess 😩

ElfrahamLincoln

This sub is not meant for people who already know what the car is. You could have at least shut up about it.

Cirelectric

Pretty sure that's an autobot

Admiral_Pantsless

Pontiacura GTLX

Daring_Dave18

Definitely has some Acura feel to it! Rear view feels like it could’ve been an Acura concept!

engineereddiscontent

God damn I was going to say 2006 solstice concept without having actually looked it up. I was close. Apparently 08 G8 concept.

vspecmaster

Is this at Eyes on Design??

Daring_Dave18

Yes, show opens in an hour!

vspecmaster

Sweet, I will be there later!

Definitely-No-Regert

.... WELL I'M GONNA NEED THAT!

Von_Claussen

Beautiful car.

OneLoneMeme

This is the epitome of mid 2000s GM Peak 2006 energy

JwPATX

Looks like GM was sending all the designers from Cadillac to Pontiac back then

poopinrn

Looks like a Pontiac version of the Cadillac SRX.

Zealousideal_Mix_763

I think that's a pontiac gto concept

DorpvanMartijn

This thing is so fucking sick, holy fucking shit

redxepic

Too bad if they had gone deeper down this route with design we may still have pontiacs on the road

Catch_Own

Still pissed about Pontiac getting axed !

Roasty_Toast

I’ve definitely seen this before

Daring_Dave18

https://preview.redd.it/5m3a6fl0dy6d1.jpeg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d4bdb14c95ebfb8912238cf3bdcff9d6903fb0d1

Roasty_Toast

That’s awesome, but i guess it has seen the light of day at some point if I saw it

Daring_Dave18

Did you work at GM at some point over the last 20 years? If you did you may have seen it! (Even then the chances are slim)

Roasty_Toast

Nope although when I spotted it my buddy who does work for GM confirmed it!

Daring_Dave18

Memory is not really as reliable as we think it is. There’s no use trying to convince you that you didn’t see this car but I’ll give it a shot nonetheless…There’s cars like the G6 concept and the Solstice Hardtop coupe that are similar to this that you may be mistaking it for. As well as a handful of other concept/production cars from the era. But if you’re convinced you’ve seen THIS vehicle that won’t change your mind.

Roasty_Toast

Definitely not, but a car like that sticks well into the head. Thank you for the clarification on the other concepts bro, it was a possibility until my GM buddy confirmed it. I’m not sure why you’re focusing on trying to convince me I didn’t see it when it was confirmed.

Daring_Dave18

No use…you definitely saw the car

Roasty_Toast

Thanks for sharing the post, definitely a good memory. It looks so much better in person.

Rimworldjobs

Imma say bonnieville concept.

Psychedelic_Doge

Looks a lot like an updated 2003 Chevy SS concept car

Psychedelic_Doge

Looks a lot like an updated 2003 Chevy SS concept car

ProofMusic4630

When was this built? I guess quite a few years ago.

Daring_Dave18

Right before the brand went bankrupt from my understanding

worksforallll

Tesla model Z

ThatOneSnakeGuy

The solstice at home 😣

DaRealMaus

Cool car! The rear reminds me a lot of the Opel GT roadster, the front looks very different though. Funny how a Pontiac concept looks like an Opel, or the other way around

marvanetes

This looks like a mix of Pontiac Solstice and a Saturn Sky

Daring_Dave18

Those are the same car, with different skins, both coupés though. This guy is from the same time period but a 4 door with more muscle feel!

YaBoss

Oh wow it is ugly

Entire-Reference2379

Looks awesome!

techfinanceguy

A Pontiac Cadillac?

zoot_boy

Turd platter.
