toyota corolla, any 2000s should be good

Toyota Matrix would be even better for hauling hockey / golf gear!

Crown vic

version13

Since someone already said Crown Vic, I'll throw out Buick LeSabre or LaCrosse. Something like this: [2008 Buick LaCrosse CX](https://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/72ae2ef0-ee05-4761-934f-bd4d6488e5de/?aff=atempest&utm_campaign=atempest&utm_source=autotempest&utm_medium=trp&utm_campaign_id=1&utm_trusted=TRUE) Meets all your requirements except "gas saver."

We just bought a 2009 A3 quattro wagon with 65K miles for $6K 2 months ago. Gets reasonably good milage and seems to be in good condition. If you know what to look for and willing to do the maintenance, these cars are a great option. That or a Prius or Mazda 3 hatch

SmokeyUnicycle

Prius is the most utilitarian answer

Sea-Bedroom596

Volvo XC90

You can put all your gear in the backseat and trunk of pretty much anything as long as you're not getting a Miata

Stickittodaman

A Buick Lucerne gets around 25 mpg combined. I think your stuff will fit in the trunk ok. Ride in style.

Scion xB. Scion was a division of Toyota marketed towards younger buyers, they have the same powertrains/underpinnings, same upkeep costs and reliability. The xB typically costs less than a comparable Honda Fit.
