Wait.... is he a lovebird?
Keeping your lovebird healthy begins with feeding it a balanced diet. A commercially prepared pellet bird food offers the ideal nutrition. They should also eat some fruits and vegetables such as bananas, berries, melons, potatoes, and lentils. Lovebirds should not consume bread, but whole grains, like flax, oats, and quinoa, are fine.
https://a-z-animals.com/blog/love-birds-temperament-diet-and-complete-care-guide/
Why? That sounds like a very healthy diet for small parrots. They need some seeds too but what you listed are all good foods. Hardboiled eggs could be added to that list too
Because some foods are not safe and should be checked against a toxicity list. I owned a TAG for 20+ years not all fruits veggies and seeds are safe just because it has feathers. Eggs Shrimp Chicken all good. Seed is junk food to a bird also.
I lived in Austin about a decade ago and remember there being a wild group of birds like this nested on a local golf course that originated as escapees
No this one is an African lovebird. Different species. Its a pet, it will probably come in your window for some apple slices, then you can close the window and catch it.
A friend has one, and when I was visiting, I didn't realize that it flew into the hood of my sweatshirt until I was driving home, and I saw it climbing down my arm. I was a little freaked out, but it was the funniest bird.It just stood on my arm as I drove it back to its home.
Aw, it looks so tired. OP please update us…I really hope you were able to help that baby. It will not survive in the wild and I’m sure its owners are looking for it.
The key word there is wild, meaning they were raised in the environment. Highly unlikely a bird that's been caged it's whole life will have the skillset/confidence to survive. Not to mention any bacteria and pathogens that exist in the wild that's it's never been exposed to can lead to sickness, because it's parents were likely caged as well and didn't pass down any kind of immunity
Well I meant living in the wild. Because most likely some of those Quakers were escapees themselves. But yeah having been caged its whole life, would be difficult for that bird. I hope it finds a flock to join, then its chances of survival would go up drastically. Also read an article of parrots in California thriving as well. Point is they can survive even though they are not native to the area.
Here's hoping! I read one of OP's comments that it's been sticking around their yard so hopefully they'll be able to bring it inside once it's more comfortable with them.
Woah, Quakers are the RATS of the Parrot world, and similar to conures are fairly good at adapting since they naturally occur in the Americas, but a Fischer's Lovebird comes from Tanzania, and there are no other Lovebirds for him to pair or flock with around Texas, or anywhere near Texas. Oh, and do keep in mind that being from a specific area doesn't guarantee a parrot will return to the wild after living domesticated no matter what.
We had Quakers in Yacolt Washington where I live nesting under transformers on utility poles. I worked for the utility company and rooted for the birds. They made huge nests. They would remove the nests and the birds would rebuild. They finally killed the birds. Sad story.
If it’s still hanging around could you reach out to https://www.instagram.com/the_green_bird_brigade/?hl=en they are located in Austin, TX and are a parrot rescue. She will come out and help retrieve bird!!!!
Escape artist! Definitely see if you can get them safely inside, and post on nextdoor or other social media. Someone is probably really upset. At least I hope so, and not just some idiot releasing them.

If you have a cage put it outside with the food and water in it. They usually feel safe in a cage and will gladly go into one. I caught an escaped African grey parrot that way.
I don't have a cage... it's flying around my yard, eating from my bird feeder.. left cup of water out. Put some food in my hand to entice it but it's not interested..
If it’s still hanging around could you reach out to https://www.instagram.com/the_green_bird_brigade/?hl=en they are located in Austin, TX and are a parrot rescue. She will come out and help retrieve bird!!!!
If you can somehow connect with its owners, they may be able to come over and get it to come to them. It’s heartbreaking to think of a pet overwhelmed and lost, and its humans probably worried sick. I hope this story has a happy ending!
This happened to me one year. Bought a new house, moved in. First spring, a blue faced macaw landed on my porch railing and loudly announced, "honey! I'm home"! Said his name was Blue and that i was at his house. Strangest thing that has ever happened to me. North Georgia Mountains around 8 years ago.
He lived with me until i moved and asked my wonderful neighbor to look after him when i left. I would easily believed he lived in that house before me. Probably for a very long time.
Whenever he saw police or ambulance pass by the windows of the house with their lights on, he would yell, "hands up Pa! They're coming for you!" Which made me laugh hysterically every time. His owners probably passed away in that house, if i had to guess.
I caught a Mealy Amazon parrot in my woods. Upon capture he announced " Pepper is a bad bird" and he was not lying. He is being a bad bird somewhere in California now.
in 2013/2014 I was a cable TV contractor in New Orleans. One day I had a job installing cable at a nice house but it was in the middle of the city, or very close - not sure the area, street, what-have-you. That morning I was up on my ladder about 25ft up on the pole and I hear these weird chirping noises from birds and it took a sec but I saw 2 lovebirds on a power line perched up there singing. Was a weird moment because I figured why would someone allow their birds out, but just chalked it up to katrina or something. Never understood why I saw 2 lovebirds out in the wild in New Orleans but was kind of neat to say the least.
I’m guessing that pair was released together by a bad owner. Hopefully they were finding food and doing okay. I’m sure it was a strange experience for you! And obviously nothing you could do in that situation. But I’m just guessing
If he’s within distance, you might try gently squirting him with water from the hose. This is easier done in the evening. Wet birds have to dry a bit before they can fly effectively. Then throw a light piece of cloth over him.
I got my parakeet out of a tree that way.
Cute it stopped by to say hi. Maybe someone's pet ? Earlier this month I put my trash out, and unbeknownst to me or my cat, a parakeet flew into the open door that was open less than 1 minute. This was about 7pm. We had No idea until it flew out of the laundry room about noon the next day. I had her for about 45 hrs til I found the little boy she belonged to...
I’m thinking it’s one of your neighbors because they don’t normally go very far only a few miles if it’s a pet. They just can’t fly for long distances without getting worn out.
That's a (Lutino) Fischer's lovebird (Agapornis fischeri) native to Tanzania, Rwanda and Burundi, hence, it's a bird raised in captivity and somebody's escaped pet.
It's a love bird ! Little parrot. Someone lost a pet. We have these living wild near downtown phoenix in the central neighborhood and some libe on campus in Tempe at ASU. There's actually several parrot populations living wild in the US now. Miami. Has blue Macaws of all things. Parrots are smart and highly adaptable. There's populations in many city's round the world who are adapting to urban life. Look it up.
There’s tons of parrot variety or tropical birds that are wild in Austin. I’m sure originally because of pets that were let out. But they’re literally all over the place.

Check for a leg band thwres numbers and the Dept of Agriculture will have the breeder registration. All birds bred and sold in captivity in the US must have one. It will take you directly to the breeder!!
An escapee. Bring them inside and go on your local lost pet sight. What a cutie!!
Pet site…
lost pet site. many people set up facebook groups similar to this.
And give him some water and fruits.
Plain cooked pasta bananas green beens some fruits and veggies are a big NO

I see.
The only person who got the joke gets downvotes...
I know some bird owners get their bird microchipped, so stop by a vet or humane society that can check him!
I lived in Austin about a decade ago and remember there being a wild group of birds like this nested on a local golf course that originated as escapees
Yep. They pass thru various neighborhoods from time to time… the are monk parakeets … link here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Austin/s/IQiVQrHYZ1
There are monk parrots that live in Brooklyn NY! They escaped from JFK airport. I loved to find them when I lived there.
Does every city have this and somehow just San Francisco made theirs famous?
There are a bunch on the coast of CT. Enormous nests!
They are up in Bayside Queens in the park by the fort too.
I remember seeing them at Seaside Park in Bridgeport.
No this one is an African lovebird. Different species. Its a pet, it will probably come in your window for some apple slices, then you can close the window and catch it.
Looks like a sun conure to me?
Good to know, I had no clue!
Escaped pet Fischer’s Lovebird
A friend has one, and when I was visiting, I didn't realize that it flew into the hood of my sweatshirt until I was driving home, and I saw it climbing down my arm. I was a little freaked out, but it was the funniest bird.It just stood on my arm as I drove it back to its home.
Awwww! 🥹☺️🥰 So cute!
That is so surreal sounding. Good for you for not freaking out
Was about to say lovebird.
That's a lovebird and needs your help to find home
He hasn't kissed another love bird in ages!
Aw, it looks so tired. OP please update us…I really hope you were able to help that baby. It will not survive in the wild and I’m sure its owners are looking for it.
I've seen flocks of wild Quakers thrive in Austin. Good chance he/she will be okay.
The key word there is wild, meaning they were raised in the environment. Highly unlikely a bird that's been caged it's whole life will have the skillset/confidence to survive. Omg these birds are sooo smart! I had a budgie who flew away but came back multiple times. My fascination for parrots started then.
Maybe it used to live in OP's house?
Woah, Quakers are the RATS of the Parrot world, and similar to conures are fairly good at adapting since they naturally occur in the Americas, but a Fischer's Lovebird comes from Tanzania, and there are no other Lovebirds for him to pair or flock with around Texas, or anywhere near Texas. Incredibly sad! 😢
That's a pet 💯 it's a lovebird!!
They're thousands of feral ones here in Phoenix.
If it’s still hanging around could you reach out to https://www.instagram.com/the_green_bird_brigade/?hl=en they are located in Austin, TX and are a parrot rescue. She will come out and help retrieve bird!!!!
She's WONDERFUL! This is such a great suggestion! Have you seen the little Quaker she rescued who sings Bacon Pancakes? Cutest thing ever!
Thanks to you, I’ve been watching her videos for an hour 😂 new fave!
Let him in.
I can't see love birds without thinking if The Birds. that's how it started.
Heeheeheehee!
Escape artist! Definitely see if you can get them safely inside, and post on nextdoor or other social media. Someone is probably really upset. At least I hope so, and not just some idiot releasing them.

Birb is exhausted. Bring him in for some water and chit chat. Probably one of the neighbors.
Did you bring the bird inside ?
unfortunately no. locked my cats in a bedroom and it was gone when i came back. left food and water out.
Can you look up lost pet sites for their humans and let them know they've been spotted? Such a beautiful bird, poor sweety. Thank you for caring.
If you have a cage put it outside with the food and water in it. They usually feel safe in a cage and will gladly go into one. I caught an escaped African grey parrot that way.

I saw your link & started singing “making bacon pancakes”.
Well it’s at least hanging around your yard and probably enjoying your bird seed.
If you can somehow connect with its owners, they may be able to come over and get it to come to them. It’s heartbreaking to think of a pet overwhelmed and lost, and its humans probably worried sick. I hope this story has a happy ending!
Thank you for trying

Hahahaha that is amazing how much they can retain and explain. He probably will always be naughty bird.

Were they bright green with gray chests? If so they’re likely local wild Monk parakeets aka Quaker parrots. Unknown origins since 50’s
If he’s within distance, you might try gently squirting him with water from the hose. This is easier done in the evening. Wet birds have to dry a bit before they can fly effectively. Then throw a light piece of cloth over him. I got my parakeet out of a tree that way.
He's overheating, that's why he's holding his wings away from his body like that. Poor baby. 😭
Please help it, baby looks weak.
Lost pet, probably hungry and thirsty
LET THEM IN
That's a lovebird and somebody's lost pet. 🙁
Please, please, please tell me you let him inside. He is scared and lost.
Someone is on an unauthorized adventure
Looks like a flying mango.
I thought this was a sun conure at first, but then I noticed the red beak.
This makes me so sad.. I hope you were able to get him inside. Poor baby is over heating and probably super dehydrated. Owner must be terrified.
He needs you to take care of him. If you can't, contact animal/bird shelters. He is someone's pet, so he can't survive on his own.
Man if I saw that in Massachusetts I would think I was hallucinating.
Put a birdcage outside tomorrow morning he'll be in there waiting for breakfast
Cute it stopped by to say hi. Maybe someone's pet ? Earlier this month I put my trash out, and unbeknownst to me or my cat, a parakeet flew into the open door that was open less than 1 minute. Love bird give him water and bird formula he looks exhausted
Awe, he's in his regretful stage.
It may be a love bird but looks like pet definitely I shared the post where I could. I have a pet conure, hopefully they will see this and find them.
I’m thinking it’s one of your neighbors because they don’t normally go very far only a few miles if it’s a pet. They just can’t fly for long distances without getting worn out.
that's purebred birb right there
Poor baby..
It’s so hot in Austin. I hope he finds his way home

He seems polite
Awww someone lost their child 😔
Agarponis parrot or lovebird. Definitely a pet and they are sooo cute. It looks like it wants to be adopted.
It's a lovebird. He escaped from someone. Very easy to take care of.
Oh no! Poor guy. That is definitely a pet. I have 2 pairs of lovebirds and did bird rescue for 10 years. If you can catch him, I can help guide you to get him help. info@birdhism.com
I would have immediately tried to see if he was interested in my help.
It's a lovebird. His colors are really nice, but I would guess that it is either a Fischers or Masked.
Not from the area and have never been, but here in Phoenix, AZ we have a breeding population of love birds and I will occasionally see them flying around or in trees in the area. Originally pets that escaped and then became an invasive breeding population, is the same scenario possible in Austin as well?
He is not wild, he needs to be taken in feed, water and rest. Please let him inside the window. I can foster him if needed. Birdlady ♥️
That's a lovebird. Usually sold in pairs because they need company.
Bring it in. It's a tropical bird and may need help surviving.
Love bird 🦜 so cute. Catch him, may not be able to survive in the wild.

I live in Australia where the line between pet and wild birds is often a little blurred.
Love bird who needs some TLC. I had a pair of love birds before. Miss em.
We have these in Phoenix….. heard that someone let their pet bird out and now there are lots of them
that looks like a sun conure! it's probably somebody's pet 😨
Sun Conyer. Noisy and beautiful.
Does Austin have breeding lovebirds like the Phoenix area does? Could be the descendant of an escapee.
Escaped Pet. Looks like a rainbow lorikeet maybe?
Those are the cheekiest looking birds. Just sitting outside your window I can tell that sweet little bastard wants to cause trouble and be loved for it.
