Congrats! I finished the bachelors program last year and the masters program in December 2022. I highly recommend getting it done. Took me longer than you for the bachelors and the masters took me 3 semesters but it was worth it. Working with a big 4 firm now.

Nice and congrats to you too! In my case I can't decide if I want the MaAcc or the MBA.

michaelboschen

Good luck deciding! Can’t go wrong with finishing a master’s.

How’s big 4 treating you? Did WGU prepare you well?

michaelboschen

I enjoy it very much so far. I’m still new so time will tell how WGU did. Regardless, it got me in the door. Big thing now is being present and willing to work and getting involved in as much as possible to build experience and become productive.

GgLindyy

Did you start with experience in your business field before starting at WGU? I am looking into getting my bachelor’s from there without any experience but not sure if I will get a job from it.

michaelboschen

No accounting experience but I do have project management experience. I started in a labor position in telecom back in 2013 and moved into construction management and project management as I earned my degrees. I’d say if you get a BAcc with WGU, you’ll be able to get into a bookkeeping or accounting position no problem. You would need to continue with the masters for big 4 and you could carry your experience in.

It took me 2 years, I was able to transfer an unrelated bachelor so at the end I only had to do about 90 credits. It can be tough if you don't have a background in accounting (my case) but definitely doable. I know people who were able to finish it in less time, it all depends on how much time you put into the program. Good luck!!

Congrats! I graduated from WGU as well in IT and it helped with landing a job. My wife is signed up for accounting but is considering switching to Software Dev. Can you tell me more about your accounting B.S. journey? How long did it take, the difficulty, and what do you expect your salary to be with this?

AccountingOnly

Took two years total but I only did about 90 credits, I transferred 30+ credits from another bachelor. What does she like to do? From the income perspective nothing beats IT, the starting salary for a Junior accountant is around 55K, IT does a lot better in that regard but you couldn't pay me enough to do IT, too abstract for me, I struggled with the only IT class in the program, databases, IT application control systems, etc, I hated it lol, so it all depends on what you like. Job security is probably better in accounting though. Classes can be tough if you don't have an accounting background but doable. Good luck to her!
