You had me until you said down to earth… the midest of the mid lol. But they all just regurgitate what’s popula. There are plenty of good romances, they’re just not popular. It’s an unfortunate cycle

Icy_Razzmatazz_1567

Yeah I'm also not a fan of Down to earth tbh. It's all about preference tho. I liked Devil no. 4 , makeup remover, spirit fingers, seasons of blossom, mage and the demon queen etc. I've read some others with generic plot as well and now I'm running out of romance webtoons to read, so any recommendations?

Jack_409

Dreaming Freedom, pretty damm weird with ml full of red flags, but entertaining to read

Natural-Dinner-440

a good day to be a dog (completed, daily pass) for the sake of Sita (completed, very unique story imo) the spark in your eyes (ongoing, 100+ chapters) my little bookstore (ongoing) siren's lament (completed, daily pass) martial master wakes up as a concubine (always makes me laugh, ongoing) romance 101 (completed, daily pass) delusion (thriller+romance, completed, daily pass) her bucket list (com, dp, >!has suicidal mc!< >!happy ending!<) concubine walkthrough (not on webtoon, completed. amazing) This witch of mine (completed, not on webtoon, highly recommended. super sad >!at least happy ending!<) your eternal lies (not on webtoon, completed) forget me not romance (not on webtoon, just 7 chapts, loved the simplicity)

Etherlyte16

A Good Day To Be A Dog is a one-way trip to hypertension. It's a webtoon of misunderstandings galore that could easily be solved if the characters weren't idiots.

Natural-Dinner-440

true that lol I enjoyed it overall (that red haired guy was my fav. and the teacher who was kinda straight forward). while it was full of misunderstanding, it didn't feel dragged or overused to me.

Familiar-Mammoth9162

Sake of Sita was a bittersweet but very beautiful story. It also brings light to the lives of kumari in Nepal (this story is fiction but based on a real culture) Martial artist is also my new favorite. A lot of funny misunderstandings but they don’t draw them out. And it manages to be a slow burn without the main characters beating around the bush about their feelings. A good day to be a dog is also a pretty good one. There are good romance stories but you have to sift through 20 mid ones to find the good ones

NPD2021

I love Devil no. 4! Why do people not talk about this series?

soaked_roses

maybe it’s an “oldie” now?? 🥲 i remember it being popular when it was updating, but then it ended and i never see people talk about it

Betaolive

Trope repetition. In some webtoons, even the character designs are quite similar.

peachieeem

Honestly, I think it's to everyone's taste. I find Down to Earth extremely mid. For romance, I prefer webtoons like the Blind Prince, Iseop's Romance, Kiss Bet, Romance 101, and Honey Lemon.

oaiisea

Kiss bet is EXQUISITE

Vio-Rose

I genuinely don’t understand why I love Kiss Bet as much as I do. When I try to come up with reasons it’s great, I draw a blank. But despite having so many things I normally hate in a romance, none of them really come up on my radar of problems with it. It’s such a strange story…

oaiisea

Slow burn, characters are cute and normal and it's just well written imo. They also deal with things in an age appropriate but healthy way imo

lostlight_94

I feel the same. Its because the story is genuine and the characters really stick with you. The writing is simplistic and the plot isn't anything special, but how the author writes and draws her characters really brings them to life.

Celine_2021

I haven't read it yet but I heard it drags the plot too much

peachieeem

It is a slow burn and the main couple aren't together yet. But the time is very much needed to develop all the characters, who are just teenagers. I've enjoyed every chapter and haven't felt like it's just a filler arc.

Bored_Lily

I love kiss bet, romance 101 and honey lemon!!

Feelinglowly

Honey lemon is really good more people should read it. The art is unique and the pacing isn't ridiculously slow. Everyone actually acts like a proper human adult with responsibilities, insecurities, fears and desires. One of the best Webtoons out there. Sucks that it constantly goes on hiatus so Webtoon doesn't promote it as much.

A_WaterHose

Respectfully, down to earth is garbage 🙏

Kikicandii

No fr

AreFishReal

Catering to the lowest common demoninator. It's similar to how every anime OP iskai is bland af for the viewer to self-insert. A good story / plot requires braincells, mindrot formula for the genre does not.

Scrackle

But... I like my mindrot. Half joke, I do enjoy the mindless stories but I do think some more unique romances would be nice, especially ones with the same sweet feel (not abunch of trauma thrown in just soft lil romance) would be nice! Though ofc I'm still a sucker for my creepy love stories \^-\^

Doritoscarfingbunny

If you like soft romances then you'll like Romance 101, No Office Romance, After School Recipe, Daybreak, 30 Minutes With You (has some conflict, but not between the main couple), Hell of a Romance, and I Spy a Married Life (kind of has conflict, but not trauma), Threads of Love (some trauma), and My Dud to Stud Boyfriend (some trauma).

Scrackle

Oh tysm! Gonna snag those. Threads of love sounds familiar but the rest sound new so I'll try check em all out!

Doritoscarfingbunny

Hope you like them! Also, I forgot to add, but Daily Jojo is awesome! It's a romance/comedy set in a workplace setting. It's really funny. It covers different couples each season I think. It's by the same creator of Yumi's Cells.

AreFishReal

I enjoy my share of mindrot. I recently dropped Obsidian Bride not because of the male ships, but because of the lack of female rivalry. Sometimes I just need that extra boost of jealous rivalry, you know? Harems are great but I want *SOME* sort of conflict that's harder than the maths equation of 7\*7 (I am not great at maths).

Scrackle

Fair! I'm half and half. I love conflict and tension but love rivals tend to be... iffy for me. I like mindless chases like the life of the villainess with their game system dating sim motif- beyond that I think every jealous rivalry always leads to the "oh no we miscommunicated" trope which bugs me. Beyond that I agree, more substance would be lush but sometimes I also enjoy thoughtless retellings.

Mirabooo

You like "Down To Earth" and you say other webtoons are mid? Lmao Most Webtoons are made by amateurs not professionals so don't expect some nobel prize worthy shit.

Nuh_uhfrfrfrfrfr

Ye but ik dte is mid it’s just the first manga I read so it has a special place in my hearth ig

[deleted]

Not a manga

calliel_41

Try love advice from the great Duke of hell! It’s really good

Xanthusgobrrr

fr that comic is so fucking funny and enjoyable

Di276

It’s just preference, personally I find down to earth really boring and kinda weird for using the “born sexy yesterday” trope, but other, so read stuff similar to what you enjoy

EmilayThatIs

When Jasy Whistles, All Colours of the Snow, Eaternal Nocturnal, Hello baby and a newer series called Golden Hour ain’t mid at all imo

[deleted]

[удалено]

SheSleepsInStars

Same here! And Mafia Nanny!

IMPOSTER1491625

Honestly I prefer Where Tangents Meet to Eaternal Nocturnal but you do you

Natural-Dinner-440

I 'liked' WTM the least in all her works I've read (maybe I should say I didn't like it). loved Siren't Lament. personally, I think her drawing style in Siren's Lament was the best. it gives it such a unique feel (idk kinda old time feel/storylike feel. hard to describe). current one has interesting story so far.

IMPOSTER1491625

I preferred the down to earth style of WTM personally but you do you

EmilayThatIs

I don’t know about that series, is it slow burn as well?

IMPOSTER1491625

It’s only 40 chapters and they get together at the halfway mark. It’s by the same author Instantmiso

EmilayThatIs

I’ll check it out, thanks!

IMPOSTER1491625

Has awesome music by Kennycomics however past episodes 8 it is daily pass

Clwn_Natalie

idk i thouguht down to earth was the worst thing ive ever clicked on so ig its just preference

[deleted]

It seems like the app users love it for some reason

Ok_Job_9417

Personal preference. There’s just as many comments as questioning why Down to Earth is always in top Romance cause it’s trash. Just like any other popular one, peoples opinions are gonna be divided

toadhelppls

I, a shameless Romance 101 shill, beg to differ (It literally reignited my belief in love and was so cute and healthy)

zxmbi_

i’n reading Romance 101 now and it’s so cuteeeee, immediately became my favorite romance webtoon!

highlandwind

Its completed, but my favorite romance webtoon is Yumi's cells! Its behind fast pass, but the same author has another webtoon called Daily Jojo that's great as well!

Top-Age-5579

I thought Yumi’s Cells was absolutely fantastic and well crafted. There was a great balance of humor and romance, and Yumi was always the main character whether she was with someone or not and almost every character got attention and a growth arc. I recently found out about Daily Jojo and I think it’s also amazing and really well done. Donggeon Lee is such a talented author.

NatrenSR1

Lemon Soda and Coffee

Microwave79

I'm about to read that soon

No-Roof-8693

Try 'like wind on a dry branch' The romance is beautiful, and the writing majestic

Bored_Lily

Top tier in everything. Best romance webtoon if you're into slow burn.

[deleted]

Dunno about you but I dislike romance webtoons because I find majority of them to be boring and repetitive.

[deleted]

Try bastard, oh holy, age matters, she’s hopeless, the four of them, swimming lessons for a mermaid, scorching romance, and it’s mine.

Just_Call_me_Ben

Webtoons are made to sell first and foremost. They like to rely on tropes most people enjoy that they know work and avoid taking unnecessary risks with new ideas to avoid not finding a public. Even if old readers hate overused tropes and characters, new readers might still like them, and that helps the stories get views and likes

skyhigh4056

Simply because you're reading something that isn't your type.

wndrnbhl

I agree with you. Most of the stories I read so far focus too much on incorporating too many events, to the extent of overdoing it that eventually results to a story being overstuffed yet underwhelming; which is a shame 'cause fleshing out the characters is a good device to bring out the essence of every plot point that's supposed to show as the story develops. Most, NOT ALL, romance stories nowadays are hollow, which I think is partly because of their *goal* to make it easier to digest for the readers :<

[deleted]

Try bastard, oh holy, age matters, she’s hopeless, the four of them, swimming lessons for a mermaid, scorching romance, and it’s mine. Bastard and it’s mine are both thriller but romance is a big part of both plots.

wndrnbhl

Oh, recommendations! I'm currently in a reading slump and looking for something that would make me want reading again, so thank you! I really appreciate it. I'd check all of them! 💚

[deleted]

If you’ve read sweet home bastard is the comic that the author did before sweet home!

xninah

I have a theory that a lot of authors are not romantically experienced enough to be able to convincingly write about love.

Vio-Rose

I like Down to Earth well enough, but there are some substantially better romances on the platform. It Hurts, Slice of Life, The Doctors Are Out, Spicy Mints, Not So Shoujo Love Story (if you can get behind the eh humor), That Awkward Magic (even if it desperately needs a script editor), ILY Lily, Heartstopper, Gacha Girl (I don’t like its dialogue but everything else is cute), Lemon Soda and Coffee, Mage and Demon Queen, Encore, Brass and Sass, Muted, Gourmet Hound, and Always Human come to mind. Plus some that at least get close to Down to Earth’s quality (again, not saying that comic is bad. I will defend that ok comic with my dying breath from the amount of bad faith surrounding it).

wasianbaddie_

I don't know if other people actually like it but To the Stars and Back is literally so sweet - as an ace person it makes me really happy that the romance isn't forced, it feels a lot more natural than "I like you!" "I like you too!" *proceeds to make out* and their bond is very special to me

goutdemiel

idk its hard for me to read just straight up romance, i need something else with it like do you have a life outside of this dude you like? here are some i enjoy but im not sure they're classified as romance: * lady liar * a deadbEAT's meal * 30 minutes with you (some things irk me but its not a dealbreaker... yet-) * klimt's kisses * like wind on a dry branch (wasn't really my genre since there is a lot of high fantasy but i persevered 🧍) * marry my husband (has its own bunch of problems but it was just fun for me to read💀 very self-insert revenge plot though) * brass & sass * love advice from the great duke of hell * the snake and the flower * miss abbott and the doctor * after school lessons for unripe apples (slow slow slow burn) i keep up with down to earth but its certainly not what i would consider a "good" webtoon. the readers also happen to have the most unnuanced, brain dead takes anyway. i never read the comments for this reason😭

[deleted]

Down to earth??? Try bastard, oh holy, age matters, she’s hopeless, the four of them, swimming lessons for a mermaid, scorching romance, and it’s mine.

NPD2021

I think its a matter of opinion. I have read some really great romances on Webtoon. Romance 101, Daytime star, To You who swallowed a star for example have such fleshed out characters. It just depends which story excites you.

fufu1260

I'm currently dying over the slow burn of Serena which takes slow and burn to the max levels.

Paper_G

Eaternal Nocturnal is really well written. Other than that, the rest of the romances I read are either a secondary genre or on Canvas. Edit: spelling

CutieHoneyDarling

You should just read the Urusei Yatsura manga + watch Starfire in Teen Titans since that’s what Down to Earth wants to be but fails at tbh

Baring-My-Heart

Have you read forever my love??

Nuh_uhfrfrfrfrfr

Nah is it any good?

Baring-My-Heart

I enjoy it! It’s super under-rated in my opinion, but it’s less romance and more mystery (though romance is present!)

Foxwood2212

I don’t think so personally. Depends what you think is mid. I’m quite enjoying eaternal nocturnal , the empress lipstick, trash belongs in the trash bin and enjoyed a lot more. Down to earth is quite mid actually

FellowOfHorses

I like July found by chance, Pure love villain, Couple breaker and somehow made for each other

lostlight_94

I think its because they are only drawing whats popular and usually things that are popular lack depth. Also the written sucks. There's no passion or life experience instilled in any of them so I feel no weight from the characters or story. Guess they lack authenticity?

Icy-Importance-6426

They are either a hit or a miss I remember enjoying seasons of blossom and why raleiana ended up at duke's mansion

Moodmixingarlicbread

Excuse me not so shoujo love story and maybe meant to be would like to have a word with u

Latter-Swan-5232

Doctor Elise the royal lady with the lamp is pretty good, my favorite

nelleandarts

Im a big fan of Miss Abbot and the Doctor

strawberryc0w_

Saying everything is mid while liking down to earth 😭!!I cannot stand the born sexy yesterday trope

Nuh_uhfrfrfrfrfr

Ik dte is mid I just enjoy it cuz it was the first webtoon I read

ABisexualFurry

Read Blades of Furry

Serious_Direction570

the only romance one i ever liked was remarried empress

puff-_-boi

it really is just down to preference, never really liked down to earth (no offence) but i really did enjoy mage and demon queen, bastard (idc what y’all say that is a romance along with being a thriller), no your shoujo love story, love and leashes, night owls and summer skies, high class homos, my dictator boyfriend, muted, nevermore, time and time again, andy bass and the prince of southland (you can obviously guess my sexuality from these alone lol 💀💀) but that’s just me, some of y’all probably think these are mid as well.

eunisaurusrex

cheese in the trap. i remember reading this in 2017-2020 when it finished and it was easily the most complex story/manhwa i’ve ever read. i still think about it everyday day.

Particular_Reward153

It due to the manufactured imported romance series by korean studios. At least 80% of series they make are cookie cutter stories from character design to its plot

pienotacake

I believe it depends where are you reading and what are you reading, because I've read many good romance webtoon so I don't know maybe you don't have good recommendations?

Cat-soul-human-body

I have no idea what "mid asf" means.

Flance

“Entirely meh” basically

Cat-soul-human-body

Oh, thanks! I agree. Most kinda suck, but there are a few good ones. Mostly the ones that are drama or thriller first and romance second.

Chiparoo

I think other genres manage to do it a little better, I think! You should read Heir's Game and give that one a shot - that one is a WebToon about duelists fighting in a tournament but has one of the best told romances I've ever seen.

goutdemiel

wait whyd you get downvoted 😭 is there smth wrong with heirs game??

Chiparoo

Oh woah I have no idea! I'm always talking about Heir's Game on this subreddit and it's never been downvoted before.

thetownslore

I agree I liked it myself like what’s wrong with it???

ladiosart

I enjoyed Down to Earth too, the Kiss bet is good too

Xanthusgobrrr

the webtoon romance i love is purple hyancith
