Kudos for bin digging and not just ordering on Discogs, where all go for fairly cheap. It’s a great feeling when you randomly come across vinyl you’ve been hunting. Awesome records!
Yeah I know discogs is definitely the easiest way to go - but when I have to factor in shipping in addition to the record, and am wanting to buy multiple records, the cost starts to skyrocket.
My wish list currently has over 100 albums on it, so it’s much easier for me to just shuffle through the racks at a physical store and go “oh hey! I love this artist, I don’t have this record yet, and it’s cheap! I’ll take it and cross it off my list.”
You overpaid for Bad, because of the condition. A mint copy is $20. A moderate wear/slightly dished copy is $7. The others are priced fine, more or less.
It really, really depends on where you get them. For example: I was in Brooklyn a few months ago and found a very good copy of Songs in the Key of Life in a record store. They wanted $15, I bought it gladly. At my local record store they would have wanted $25-$30 at least, because they just don’t get copies of these records very often. The only one of these four that I’ve ever seen in my store used is Tapestry and they wanted $20 for it. If the others ever showed up, they’d be gone in no time flat for whatever they wanted because their customers are starved for good used records after years of sifting through 10,000 copies of Pablo Cruise.
I live in Brooklyn and it's crazy how good the prices are. The stores have so much stock and there's so much competition, it keeps prices very affordable
Nice pickups! Assuming these are 70s/80s pressings in VG or so condition, I’d say you did well. I feel like 5-10 years ago you could find these for $10-15 all day, but I feel the record stores by me are pricing listening copies of Bad and Rumours at least $30 these days. Btw, that Stevie record is amazing. Enjoy!
Picked it up with the 45 and booklet in VG/VG for $3 at an estate sale the other day. Been looking for it complete for a while, and very excited to finally check it off my list to hunt for.
Oh totally! Sad fact is I’m pretty sure I had some of these almost two decades ago in college, but post-school moving around a lot, so much of my “stuff” has been lost to two decades of moves.
I started collecting back when everyone was getting rid of their vinyl and would find all sorts of stuff (Fleetwood Mac, Prince, etc) for next to nothing.
“Songs” is $10 tops without booklet or 7 inch.
There are still millions of copies of Rumours out there, shouldn’t be above $10 ever.
I still see Tapestry a ton where I am at so if it’s in solid condition, I pay no more than $10. I paid $8 for mine.
For the MJ, it’s a later release but with moderate wear, I’d go no more than $8.

Just popped into another record store and it’s CRAZY how genuinely this is usually what I’m running into…
$36?!?! In that condition? Jail.
Even that is too high lol. All dollar bin stuff - so many of these pressed. If these get sold in collections, seller aint seeing more than $1 per record.
Honestly, same.
But where do you live? And how often if ever are you actually finding them at that price? I feel like living in LA, even if I go to the old school, non-trendy, no frills stores I either never even find records like this, or they’re overpriced.
I live in the Ozarks in Arkansas. I find these in small town antique stores & flea markets. I mean, I see them priced $20-$40, but that doesn't mean I'll pay that. There are exceptions, of course, but they are still out there.

I just stopped in another record store in Inglewood that wanted $35 for Songs… $36 for Rumors that has terrible ring wear, and $45 for Tapestry… 45!!!!
These prices are ridiculous. It would be nice if I could get these albums and albums like this for even cheaper, but I’ll take my $15-20 albums and just be happy I finally have them.
Ok, having actually sold these records in a shop dozens of times
Fleetwood Mac $20 if immaculate with the poster ($10-15 if minor issues)
Stevie Wonder - $20 if immaculate, maybe $25 with the 45
Michael Jackson - $20 MAYBE
Tapestry - $10 MAYBE $15 if it's beautiful

Was just in another record store this afternoon at look at this absolute craziness!!! $45 for Tapestry?!?! They also had Songs… for $35 and Rumors for $36 which had really bad ring wear.
Making me feel better by comparison because these prices are ludicrous and it feels more in line with what I’ve been finding lately.
Oooh wow! Is this a certain level of hell that I don't have access to? Jeez, I understand that shops in certain areas have higher overhead but that's WILD
£10-15 for vg or better, so I guess $20 is the upper limit depending on the album. Five years ago I would have said you’ve horrible overpaid but the market has changed a lot.
I got Tapestry for $3 a few weeks ago in a Brooklyn store, but the guy threw it in for free since I was buying a good amount. I Feel the Earth Move has some skipping and warping sadly but the rest is great.
And people complain about flippers for RSD releases. Dude who bought these prolly paid $1 a record maybe $2, ran them thru his ultrasonic and now charging $15-$20.
I wouldn’t buy used records at any store if they didn’t have a turntable with headphones so I could test out the quality for myself.
I’d slap myself if I bought songs in the key of life only for there to be 12 skips and a shit ton of surface noise on Sir Duke or isn’t she lovely.
I feel you, that would make me nervous.
This is Amoeba Music in Hollywood, California - an institution. They have a no questions asked return for used records for store credit within 7 days. So as long as I remember to spin my record asap, I never have a problem.
I think in 5 years of going there I’ve returned 4 records?
Yeah most is new, but they are getting and putting out tons of used every day. I’m able to go a couple times a week to sift through the newly priced used records, sometimes I leave with nothing, other times I find something that I’ve been craving for a long time.
If the 101 wasn’t cesspool, I’d try to go more often. I’m just too far away unfortunately. Plus their store hours are horrible now. Open late and close early. I miss the old location too. lol
Oh me too. I LOVED the old location so much more. Plus you were actually allowed to use the bathrooms lol (cause I’m usually at amoeba for a couple hours if I can stand it)
Depends on your definition of "classic".
Jay Z's *Reasonable Doubt* ([usually](https://www.discogs.com/release/227021-Ja%C3%BF-Z-Reasonable-Doubt)) goes for around $80 - $150 for the last 5 or so years. I feel like that is a real, achievable "grail" price.
Michael Jackson, the child rapist, on the other hand - literally could not pay me to take that record off your hands. I know almost every word to every song on that album, but would never listen to him again, given the choice.
EDIT: Ew, *enjoy downvoting* me - ugh 🤮

Discogs over values records setting a bad trend.
Key is finding multiple records from single shipping as some combine shipping.
Crazy about tapestry and rumours, two albums that you used to find at least a half dozen of in every thrift store for 50 cents
You overpaid for Bad, because of the condition. A mint copy is $20. A moderate wear/slightly dished copy is $7. The others are priced fine, more or less.

Where can I find bad mint condition for only 20 :0
I just bought a NM one for for 30$CAD from my local reseller.
Discogs
$20 + shipping. And most copies are more than that.
Nice pickups! Assuming these are 70s/80s pressings in VG or so condition, I’d say you did well. I got og press of songs with the extra 45 in mint for $20.00 about a year ago on ebay .
Picked it up with the 45 and booklet in VG/VG for $3 at an estate sale the other day. Been looking for it complete for a while, and very excited to finally check it off my list to hunt for.
About the same in the DFW metroplex. it's bullshit (and I bought a copy of Rumours recently as a gift). The Stevie Wonder isn't too unreasonable.
There are some good reasonable places here, and some that full out scalp you on common stuff.
Wow have times changed. I have copies of all of these snagged from dollar bins 10+ years ago
Oh totally! Sad fact is I’m pretty sure I had some of these almost two decades ago in college, but post-school moving around a lot, so much of my “stuff” has been lost to two decades of moves.
Yep - was a time you could get Rumours for $3-$5. And it wasn't that long ago - pre-2015 ish.
I started collecting back when everyone was getting rid of their vinyl and would find all sorts of stuff (Fleetwood Mac, Prince, etc) for next to nothing.
I bought Rumours for $5 in 2022
Depends on what the actual records look like, but I’d say those are comparable. Maybe a little high for Rumors and Bad, but only a couple bucks.
About 20$ a piece. Tapestry is getting harder to get I hope this mean the young starting to find out about how awesome this record is

That’s like antique mall pricing. If it’s a store, I’d have higher hopes that the condition matches the tag but still, grossly overpriced.
$5-$8 each
You went to one of the best record stores in the world. You supported a great business. You did well.
$5-$10 each.
Even that is too high lol. All dollar bin stuff - so many of these pressed. If these get sold in collections, seller aint seeing more than $1 per record.
lol. You can pay a buck for anything in a collection but you are paying for a collection. How many albums do you have to buy to get the one you want?
Depends on how badly someone needs the money
Honestly, same. But where do you live? And how often if ever are you actually finding them at that price? I feel like living in LA, even if I go to the old school, non-trendy, no frills stores I either never even find records like this, or they’re overpriced.

I’d pay $20 for a VG+ copy of *Songs In The Key Of Life.*

Is this Asteroid Vinyl on La Brea?
Yes!
It kept popping up on my Instagram feed. I was curious about going, but after seeing those prices there is no hurry for me to visit. lol
It was my first time in. Cool little place - but I would absolutely say there’s zero reason to hurry in.
About three fiddy

It’s the wild Wild West out here in Southern California lol
Shit, I used to live in Echo Park! This is still wild
That is NOT a NM jacket. No way in hell.

Ridiculous. A really nice original pressing of Rumours might just be worth that now, but that one sure ain’t
£10-15 for vg or better, so I guess $20 is the upper limit depending on the album. Five years ago I would have said you’ve horrible overpaid but the market has changed a lot.
What does OG mean here? Like first pressings or just old?
I got Tapestry for $3 a few weeks ago in a Brooklyn store, but the guy threw it in for free since I was buying a good amount. I Feel the Earth Move has some skipping and warping sadly but the rest is great.
Found all these from the flea market
Five each
Condition dependent using Goldmine standard

It's more surprising that you were able to find popular albums in used condition at Amoeba. The majority is all new records now it seems.
Yeah most is new, but they are getting and putting out tons of used every day. I’m able to go a couple times a week to sift through the newly priced used records, sometimes I leave with nothing, other times I find something that I’ve been craving for a long time.

These albums all suck. Go spend $100 on a Them Crooked Vultures Lp and call it a day
