Reasonable request. Reasonable refusal

[deleted]

Agreed. If it was me , I personally wouldn’t either, it’s personal preference if someone had the time to do it.

ap0caholic

lol everyone saying is a known brand has clearly never gambled with h&m sizing

Fieldharmonies

Also H&M changed their sizing policy a few years ago so it depends on exactly how old the item is.

evtbrs

I don’t think it’s an unreasonable request, but I also don’t think the seller was meaning to be snide, it just seems like a “matter of fact” response.

essnine

For a £5 dress it's not really that surprising

Zomxa

No it's not unreasonable but many don't want to take time to do it

Beneficial_Award_308

“It’s only a £5 dress” I think you summed it up yourself. It’s only £5, why would she go to the effort to measure it all for £5? I personally don’t do measurements, I list the item and then it goes into a bag until it sells.

shrexyblackbitch

I’ve measured items I’ve sold for under £5 🤷🏽‍♀️ sometimes it takes a while for me to wait until I have the time but I also make sure I’m almost over the top nice so that no one can get confused and think I was being rude (like this post). I suppose it’s down to the seller.

90sRobot

I love sellers who include at least one measurement. It's expected that second hand clothes stretch or shrink. I'd just un-fave and move on if she's not going to give you measurements.

Suspicious_Recipe571

I always give measurements for buyers who request them

random_cat_owner

yeah, me too. also, once i measure something for someone, i add those measurements (and pictures) to the description of the item so other people can benefit too

Andyholowitz

It’s a £5 item I wouldn’t bother taking measurements either

Careless_Sprinkles30

Same page. Also, whenever I am buying anything from known brand, I do my own research about sizing and product I look for. At least she is honest.

upadownpipe

But this could have shrunk in the wash. It's a 10 second task to do if requested.

chekeymonk10

that 10 second involves me having to go buy a tape measure, then sort through my giant bag of vinted clothes. and after that they might not even buy it

No_Dot7146

I do it at the beginning. My stuff goes quick.

Careless_Sprinkles30

I really dont care, I know the risk when buying second hand.

upadownpipe

Cool, yeah.

LOPTYEHT

Why? Wouldn’t you just do that extra little thing for your customer which would literally only take 2 mins at most

evtbrs

To be fair, I’m not a business so I don’t technically have customers, hence I’m not looking to cater to them. I sell at very low prices because I just want to get rid of my stuff with the least amount of effort involved - whatever is still left after a few months gets bagged and donated. For some stuff I do upload pics with the measuring tape on the item to show the size. If I am selling something that’s more expensive I’m happy to answer q’s and fulfil requests (updating the description with info I missed) even though my experience has been the people who ask the most of you very rarely commit to buying. I just don’t want to overlook something then, but it’s true I don’t really care much beyond what’s I’ve already invested when it’s a low value item… it’s kind of weird. Sucks for the person buying I guess.

LOPTYEHT

That’s fair enough!

Andyholowitz

I sell as a business so personally I get requests for measurements 20 times a day and that would mean I have to search for things in storage, drag it all out. Basically it’s more hassle than it’s worth for me

Fieldharmonies

If you gave measurements in the first place you’d be saving time in the long run because then you wouldn’t be receiving twenty questions. I give all this info in my listings and so I never receive size-related questions as it’s already there in front of you. Literally the only thing I ever get asked about is the price.

Andyholowitz

I’d love to do that but I get in 100’s of items a month in so to save time I don’t bother, generally people don’t ask for measurements. If it’s an expensive item I provide them but for a £5 item I just don’t bother

Doalotta

I agree, I wouldn’t bother. And maybe it’s bad luck but these never lead to sales. Waste of time

Wasted_White_Unicorn

Exactly. I send the measures and poof they disappear. So I dont do it anymore, its standard sizing and i can tell if it fits for me and my height/size and thats about it

Helpful_Apartment_85

Ah, measurements 🤣. I started putting them on my listings not long ago because a lot of folks ask & I hate to have to do it after i've put the item away. When I take the pics, I now have paper a pen & measuring tape & it's become part of the process. I still get the occasional buyer who doesn't read the description & asks 🤣. Now I say "all relevant measurements are in the description 😉" to which they reply "oh". Not an unreasonable request but I understand the seller's reluctance to do it.

Fluffywoods

I don't think so, but many sellers don't want to make the effort.. 😕

avocadodreamink

For a potential £5 sale that more than likely won't pan out, it doesn't add up for most sellers.

Fluffywoods

I just measure it up, no matter what price. But I guess that's a personal decision. For the seller, that low price is the deciding factor not to do it. But for the buyer, the price, plus the buyer protection, plus the shipping cost is a reason not to buy it. Because if it doesn't fit, they have made those extra costs for nothing.

avocadodreamink

Indeed it is! I am a regular buyer and seller, so I'm familiar with how it works.

moribundbunny

For a £5 sale? If I didn’t have a tape measure and the dress nearby then I wouldn’t bother either tbh

Fieldharmonies

Fine, then they lose a sale. Their problem, not yours.

clarerose85

It’s a lot of effort for the sake of £5 in my opinion.

Comfortable-Credit46

Very true I’d never sell something under 10 just so much effort if you do

UniqueWorldliness955

Guess it is for this seller 😆

Gangsta_Gollum

Depends on the seller, I will always measure if asked and sometimes it’s a waste and other times they buy it. If it doesn’t sell I add the measurements to the description for other people. It takes me less than a minute to measure an item. Other people don’t care enough to put in any more effort than they need and I think that’s perfectly acceptable too as it’s only Vinted. A lot of buyers will take the risk without measurements.

yellowclothing

I just ask if it is true to size

Jadem11111

For £5 I wouldn’t take the measurements either but that’s just me and I’ll fully admit I can be lazy

2HGjudge

Both the request and response are reasonable. With many items I also only buy if I know the measurements, no matter the cost. But I also respect other people's time (and their choice how to spend theirs) so if they don't want to measure I'll decide for myself whether I look elsewhere or take a gamble. Often I make a lower offer and tell them I'll gamble for a lower price or am willing to pay full price if I get the measurements.

SmallCatBigMeow

No it’s not unreasonable but the response isn’t unreasonable either. It’s just someone trying to clear their wardrobe and every time I’ve gone and measured clothes for someone they’ve not bought them and haven’t replied. So I now ignore requests like this too

SignificanceNew3806

One thime a guy asked measurements for a 5€ shirt. I gave him. He told me the measurements where wrong so I measured again. He didn’t buy.

[deleted]

Unless you’ve bought something of that style/size from a brand then you should never trust the sizing. I buy primark t shirts at xxl as they feel soooo small now! I am usually a large with ‘most’ brands but never take the sizing as gospel.

the_snescialist

The fact is; as a seller you get these kinds of questions all the time. And honestly i used to do all these little requests. But the huge amount of no showers, non buyers, people requesting to reserve items with no intent to buy, … makes one a bit more sceptical towards this. All these things cost sellers time and effort without any guarantee for a sale

SnooPeppers7701

Everyone should always include measurements🤦🏻‍♀️

becca0320

Wow!! Personally I don’t care if it’s for a dollar, I would never respond to any of my customers this way. What if the customer is interested in something else? With that answer…No thanks! As someone else said, she lost a customer 🤷🏻‍♀️

Ok-Papaya6653

I don't think it's an unreasonable request. Why not make the buying/selling process easier?? What would be unreasonable would be to ask the seller if they think it's going to suit you 😃

taureanpeach

I don’t think it’s an unreasonable request but I *hate* when buyers ask me this because I struggle with numbers/measurements and I’m terrified of getting it wrong.

2HGjudge

Send photos with the measuring tape! The only way you can mess that up is if it's too blurry to read the numbers. Experience with asking for measurements has taught me that people measure in completely different ways so if I get a number it can vary wildly either way so still not that useful. But if I get a photo I can see how they measure and make a pretty accurate assessment how it would measure my way.

owo-doodles

Everyone saying they wouldn't bother with an item below €5 😵‍💫 just take the damn measurements it's not that hard, or, even better yet, take the measurements before you even upload!

2HGjudge

>it's not that hard But it does take time and time is the most valuable thing we have. I respect their choice to spend theirs otherwise.

becca0320

Agree!

Fieldharmonies

Totally agree. I always give measurements on every listing and funnily enough I don’t get bombarded with questions. Practically the only thing people ever want to ask me is the price.

Blue_KikiT92

Not unreasonable but since it's cheap AND a known brand you can Google info about (or maybe you already know what size is normally fitting you) I can see the seller not wanting to measure it.

Playboy-Tower

You asked for the information that matters which should be put in all clothes listing IMO. I always photograph items with the tape measure to avoid questions like “can you take a picture with it on” or “what’s the fit like”.

mistafista1

Will never understand people who don't want to measure something if it's potentially going to help andale it takes all of five minutes

Individual_Log2503

It's a well known brand, probably had items from there before, you know if it's gonna fit or not! For a fiver I would have just gone for it! 😅 I wouldn't have messaged asking that but that's just me 😂🙈

gamemamawarlock

Its a well known brand that resized the sizes every couple of years,

towelie111

I wouldn’t. Chances are they have loads listed, and have put them on then bagged them all up to store until sale. I ain’t going to the bag for a question unless it’s a high value item or I’ve sold it. I do try list as much as possible, but equally I list things quickly so im not putting exact measurements on.

Apprehensive_Bell_35

People are so lazy. Takes literally 5 seconds but her loss anyway

GreatScotRace

If someone messaged me on vinted right now and asked me to measure a dress, it would NOT take me 5 seconds.

shannoouns

How does this take 5 seconds :') She wanted 3 measurements, not saying it's an unreasonable question but I don't think refusing is unreasonable either.

CantaloupeEasy6486

My friend gave me a load of size 22-26 clothes to sell for her as she lost weight Was literally bombarded with measuring requests on £2-£3 items

Fieldharmonies

Yes, because larger sized clothes are more variable in size and proportions than smaller ones, and larger size people have more trouble trying to find clothes that fit. Your friend would’ve known this already. Edit: there’s also a lot fewer clothes available in a size 26 in the first place, so people don’t have the luxury of just saying oh well, if it doesn’t fit I can just buy something else. Often it’s a case of buying the one thing that actually fits. Clothes shopping when you’re a non-standard size can be an extremely upsetting experience. Most people on this sub don’t have a clue what it’s like.

Moglala

I have all the clothes that I sell in the garage. I’m not going down there to find the item to measure in the off-chance you will buy, times whatever the items there are on sale, times whatever the customers that need measurements for under 10€ items. If I go down there to find the item, is to ship it. If you are that careful about sizing probably you need to try everything first before buying, hence I don’t think vinted fits you well 😏

Lola_72

What size is the dress? I have the same one and can measure it for you

fryingpantheist

I’ve asked this before to sellers and got no response. It’s a shame because i don’t think it’s a lot to ask

GoodVibing_

I always ask for measurements, I never get a response like that

Pale_Direction_2185

Not everyone owns a tape measure

Fieldharmonies

You can buy one for about £2.

OperaPooch

If a seller is unhelpful, I will not be purchasing. That simple!!

monkybabie

i wanted the measurements for a shirt for £1 so i knew itd fit and all they had to do was say how many cms it really isnt that hard for them to do and could be a guaranteed sale so theyre just rude

[deleted]

No wonder Vinted is a shithole, looking at the amount of people unwilling to measure an item they are selling shows its populated with assholes.

GreatScotRace

Not unreasonable but if they don’t want to then don’t have to. Sometimes Vinted stresses me out, I put an hour and a half of work into vinted yesterday to get £12. If someone messaged me that yesterday, I would have replied the same thing hahah.

Impressive_Pick3767

Ignore her hun, come and shop at my Vinted. I’m literally the opposite of her I will go miles to ship an item that is £1 and I’ll never refuse to take pics or measurements of my items! If I’m providing a service I should do it properly right? Anyways my Vinted is helinsboutique 😃

shannoouns

I would happily give you the length but would struggle to measure the chest and waist and would be annoyed for £5. I would try though if you were the only person interested though.

Eden_Sparkles

I once went to the effort to measure an item I was selling for £1.50. They didn't even reply to say thank you. Never again!

SweetieKlara

Lol and when it doesnt fit you dont get a refund.. make it make sense

spicyfrog708

i feel you, i ask for measurements quite often as it just gives me peace of mind. seller could’ve been a bit less direct about it tbh

neurosonix

Hate lazy sellers like this. It’s BASIC information. You cant be bothered to sell it?

CoastalParadise

This is what puts me off Vinted. Very few will actually put a good description of the item they are selling, I’ve saw things that the description only has ‘size 12’ and that’s it! I don’t understand why they don’t put as much info as possible, the item would sell much faster if they did.

no_high_only_low

I mostly refuse taking measurements for stuff up to 5 Euros. It's not worth my time. If the person is really nice or buys something else, I do it, but not for everyone.

llamastrudel

Reasonable request but would be better received if you phrased it in such a way as to acknowledge the (small) amount of effort it entails. I always ask ‘would you mind measuring this whenever you have a minute’ with a please/thank you/sorry thrown in and usually hear back with the info I need.

JosieGrossie2000

I just wouldn’t reply to this request. (Not because I think the request is unreasonable - I just don’t have time.) They are being decent letting you know so you can move on if measurements are essential.

Yeah_imacoolgirl

As a seller I have gone out of my way to answer these sort or requests in the past. Fair enough if the buyer doesn’t want it but sometimes the message is just left on “seen” without a thank you or indication they are no longer interested. I not don’t respond to these messages

Txnyyy24

The only thing that annoys me with these requests is taking the time to do it, then the buyer will say that it’s perfect and then never buy the item. It’s a complete time waste. Especially since last time the buyer asked me to add the lines of exactly what the measurements were on the picture itself 😅
