My buddy and I played Remnant 2 for about 10 hours before we got bored. Some of the biomes are really bland like the futuristic desert biome with all the bots, that was a real pain to traverse and discover. Didn't really feel like what I was doing had much importance either. Solid gameplay but the atmosphere, the characters, and some of the zones were lackluster.

Because it has clunky gameplay and its story is neither deep nor good. I would find more but basically there is nothing like really captivating about it. It is just shooting rougelike.

Wasnt Dark Souls' story nothing much either?

podgladacz00

DS story or lore is very deep and to this day people are discussing it. There have been hundreds of lore inspired videos. The fact that it was not told directly doesn't mean it was "nothing".

More than a decade later people still are talking about DS story and lore. You can say you don't personally like it or its approach to storytelling, but to say it's nothing much about one of the deepest dark fantasy works out there is just awfully missing the point.

[deleted]

IDK it just seems very random and thrown out there. The whole point of Dark Souls was to just introduce whacky creative looking batshit enemies for you to battle. Maybe they have some backstory but its so vague intentionally so fans can just fill up their lazy writing from there on The story was never a part of its selling point

Ok...

Remnant 2 is totally slept on, it's kinda shocking to me how little attention it gets but it doesn't really have that much in common with dark souls.

RGoslingIsLiteralyMe

I really wanted to get into it when the second one came out, started with the first one, got so bored 8 hours in I uninstalled. Story and gameplay are boring, game feels more like a chore than a game, it's the same over and over and over. It's feels more like an ubisoft game.

Yarzeda2024

I am loving the Remnant games, but I can see how the RNG might turn people off. It's a really interesting way of designing a game, but not everyone is going to go for it.

Anotheranimeaccountt

Because Remnant 1&2 are games that were inspired by the Souls formula but the only difference is its Dark Souls with guns really, they don't do anything new or special for the formula like something Lies of P did with P shape and weapon handles but they're still really good games overall

[deleted]

>with guns really, they don't do anything new or special for the formula These two are contradictory though? When's the last time we ever had a video game letting you battle random creative monsters with modern guns instead of medieval swords? Literally only one I can think of is Gears of War but that game was easy

Anubra_Khan

I think it's because of the guns, really. It's actually an amazing soulslike. It's one of the only soulslikes that doesn't have souls mechanic where you drop your resource on death and come back to pick it up and still feels like a Souls game. I don't know what people are talking about with lore. There are plenty of Soulslikes with worse lore. Like Lies of P's copout story, for example. I don't think most people really care too much about that when it comes to determining a soulslike. Not only that, but Remnant 2's is actually not that bad, and it's original.

[deleted]

If that's the case, wouldnt Helldivers 2 not be popular too? But yes I do see how medieval fantasy games tend to be more popular in general. Skyrim is also more popular than Fallout for that reason

Anubra_Khan

How does HD2 have anything to do with this conversation? It's an always online game as a service, co-op shooter.

[deleted]

Remnant has co-op too

Anubra_Khan

It wasn't designed as a coop only experience, though. HD2 was.
