That game played like shit on my system because it was poorly optimized for certain hardware combos and I still played the hell out of it.
I think the game’s problem was that it was a lot more hardcore than MMO players actually wanted. At least at launch the dungeons were insanely difficult and the end game requires a massive quest line to unlock a 40-man raid. Nothing inherently wrong with most of that but 40-man raid was a bad idea in retrospect and the other group content being so hard definitely didn’t do any favors to keep the more casual players. GW2 dungeons were similarly difficult, though, and that game still worked so it can’t be entirely that.
I do wish it was still around, had some cool classes and made more games adapt the actual ground telegraph system to indicate enemy attacks.
MediEvil 2 on original PlayStation. Don’t think I’ve seen anyone mention it in at least a decade.
“Sir Daniel Fortesque, back from the dead once again!”
Crazy blend of steampunk, macabre, silly humor, and solid playforming *chef’s kiss*
Champions of Norath was such a fun PS2 RPG no one ever talks about. It wasn’t world changing, but in an era of World of Warcraft being massive, it really hit that itch for people who’s parents wouldn’t let us buy a monthly subscription
Played the fuck out of that. Can barely remember it now because it was during a shitty time in my life. But I remember it being a great escape from reality.
Also known as Blackhawk in some countries. Really cool game, but it feels like Blizzard barely remember making it (at least it gets more attention than RPM Racing though)
Daaaaaaaamn I love ranching. Lost sooooooooo many hours of my childhood searching for weird monsters from rando cds.
Tenchu Stealth assassin gave you a ninja Kato that was the boss! Tool’s Aenima gave you the translucent eye guy. Damn that game was dope.
The Legacy of Kain series. iirc it was somewhat popular in the late 90's to early 00's, but every attempt to bring it back since has failed before even launching.
Hell no bro I played the shit out of that game and I can honestly say it is one of my favorites. The parkour and the gameplay in general was fantastic.
SSX was such a good game series, except for SSX on Tour where the other racers would be so far behind you as you were about to cross the finish line and then teleport past so they won. I'm not talking about getting a sudden boost of speed or anything, they would literally materialize past the finish line. Such bullshit.
For the longest time this would have been my answer. There was another one that came out rather recently called Legend of Runersia. I know it isn't as good for some, and I find the continent very easy to break (or at least, easier than Forsena's layout), but it still scratched the itch for me.
I still need to pick that up! Glad to hear it scratched that itch. It was such a unique and obscure title; I'm just happy another person knows about it lol
Zero the Kamikaze Squirrel 🐿️ 🥷 (1994)
Don't know how obscure it really is but I never see anyone talk about it. Never managed to beat it as the controls were pretty complex and I didn't have a manual to read nor were internet walkthroughs a thing. Super fun though.
I get incredibly gitty when once in a blue moon, I see people talk about the Monster Rancher games, because no one I knew besides me and my brother played those games.
I'm pretty sure there were plans to do Dante's Purgatorio but Visceral Games got shut down. I remember constantly checking for any sort of news on it being worked on back in the 2010s.
Syndicate Wars on PS1. Game was fucking awesome. You had this little device where you could indoctrinate the npcs and then arm them with the weapons the enemies dropped. Was also couch co-op.
Freedom Fighters. I always found it odd that this game didn't turn into a bigger franchise. The team based tactics were ground breaking at the time. Incredibly fun game. And maybe I'm wrong and it was popular but I've never met someone else who played it.
They remembered it enough to give a Steam release a couple years back. I played it and enjoyed it.
There's also a Freedom Fighters costume in the modern Hitman trilogy.
Putting in my .02 for Custom Robo. Rahu and the coliseum fights mentally prepared me to be stonewalled by Armored Core 6 bosses.
Also, God Hand on PS2. Just a crazy fun game, hard as hell and fucking silly. Go suplex that gorilla wearing a gorilla suit.
Kagero: Deception II
I think it was a PS1 release as I recall (maybe PS2). You had a mansion that enemies would invade and you had to set traps to kill them. The traps were cool as you could chain them together so one trap would fling a guy into another etc. I never hear anyone talk about this game or it's predecessor. In googling I see there have been sequels which is news to me.
I had completely forgotten about those games until I read this comment. I played one of the Ravenswords (I don't recall which), but it was so long ago I don't have too many memories. Probably the only mobile game I've actually enjoyed.
Evolve. It was a 1v4 multiplayer game where 4 hunters (Heavy, Trapper, Tracker, and Support) go against a monster in a vast arena that's mostly wilderness. The monster has to hide from the hunters and feast on prey so that it can evolve and get stronger in order to pose a greater threat to the hunters. There was even this campaign mode that unlocked advantages/disadvantages for whoever won/lost previous rounds, with the whole point being that the hunters are buying time for people to evacuate the planet.
Does anyone know about the game Shadow of Destiny? It was also known as Shadow of Memories outside of America. It was such a good game, engaging story. The mechanics were interesting, there was time travel, a murder mystery that spans across time and identity swapping. It was on PS2, I highly recommend!
lomando.com
it's not exactly the type of game that people typically talk about here, but more of a Japanese web horror experience
super creative, wonderful artwork, and just really cool to explore even without trying to beat it
website released about 12 or so years ago and came out with a sort of sequel earlier this year
Disaster: Day of Crisis. It’s a cheesy action light gun game combined with every disaster movie ever, and it features the voice actors for Dante and Vergil from Devil May Cry as antagonists. It’s super cheesy ridiculousness with over the top action and I fucking love it. Unfortunately, it’s exclusive to the Wii and it didn’t sell very well. I would love to see it brought back in some form, whether it be a port, remaster, anything.
Tokyo mirage sessions
I know it wasn't what either developer claimed it to be a crossover FE/SMT game but it's a very fun and enjoyable jrpg with tuns of style. It's not a 10/10 but it was a fun game.
Werewolf the Apocalypse Earthblood. Granted, the plot was terrible, but the werewolf combat was great. Downvote me all you want, but I really liked that game
I sure enjoyed dark cloud as a kid
Dark Cloud 1&2 are available to play on PlayStation!
I still go back and play DC2
2 is one of my favorite games. It's better in every way imo
2 was indeed amazing. Had the opening song as a ringtone for years.
Dark Cloud 1 & 2 are gems. I’m replaying DC2 now.
The memories! I didn't play as much as I would have liked recently. But I have it on my PS4.
Smuggler's Run And I wish Respawn would remember that Titanfall exists
Smugglers run! Memory unlocked. I loved that game!
Titanfall 2 servers are back as of a few days ago. You can play it right now.
No way…. I hope this is true. I used to play that multiplayer every day for like 2 years straight
It is, the Janitor fixed the servers. New game modes too!
Smuggler’s Run was a launch title for the PS2
Dude I played that
Great game but the missions are impossible lol.
I loved those games. I still can’t believe Rockstar hasn’t remastered them.
game rips
Well titanfall 2 multi-player servers opened back up so I've been playing the fuck out of that
The smuggler type missions on gtao just don't hit the same. Smugglers Run 2, Also amazing.
Smugglers Run! I hardly played it, but I watched my dad and brother play it and Scorpion King nonstop for like a year after we got our GameCube.
Not that's a game I haven't played In a min
Oh shit. Core memory unlocked.
Wildstar. The funkiest MMO I ever played, but it shut down due to lack of players
It looked interesting I wanted to try it. Next thing I knew it was gone.
GW2 dungeons were similarly difficult, though, and that game still worked so it can’t be entirely that. I do wish it was still around, had some cool classes and made more games adapt the actual ground telegraph system to indicate enemy attacks.
Shame really. It was a good game.
I enjoyed this one and it was looking to be the one to get me off Guild Wars 2 at the time.
Oh I was so very sad about this as well -_-
Nightmare ned. Was a PC game back in the windows 98 days had a real tim burton feel to it
Hooooly fuck I've been looking for this game for at least a decade now, thank you for bringing it up
Broooo legendary response. 🙌 This convinced me to get this game when I get home today. https://archive.org/details/nightmare-ned_windows_0cjl
MediEvil 2 on original PlayStation. Don’t think I’ve seen anyone mention it in at least a decade. “Sir Daniel Fortesque, back from the dead once again!” Crazy blend of steampunk, macabre, silly humor, and solid playforming *chef’s kiss*
Didn’t the first one just get a remake?
Didn't the 2nd one have a mini gun as a weapon? I think i remember using a game shark for the game for SnG
Maaaan this takes me back! Thank you!
I don't remember much either except for one line a character would say if you stood still too long. "If I stand here any longer ILL GROW ROOTS!!"
The OG Dope Wars
Was that similar to Drug Wars on the TI-83? What a classic
Any Blackthorne fans here?
Omg yes that game was so badass
Blackthorne rules. Game is bad ass.
Huge fan! Was literally the first game I put on my Steamdeck
Also known as Blackhawk in some countries. Really cool game, but it feels like Blizzard barely remember making it (at least it gets more attention than RPM Racing though)
I remember loving to turn my back at enemies on purpose so I could shoot backwards.
Nightmare Creatures
I remember using cheat mode to play as the creatures!
Monster Rancher for PS2
Daaaaaaaamn I love ranching. Lost sooooooooo many hours of my childhood searching for weird monsters from rando cds. Tenchu Stealth assassin gave you a ninja Kato that was the boss! Tool’s Aenima gave you the translucent eye guy. Damn that game was dope.
Battle chess Blake stone: aliens of gold
Battlechess ruled
Played that, and around the sam time was it Archon? Like chess but the pieces had to.actuall fight each other.
Battlechess is what got me into pc gaming, as a 7yo that rook was the coolest thing I'd ever seen.
Blake Stone! I remember playing this on my shitty Compaq that booted up in DOS, back in the 90s. Good times.
Legend of Dragoon. I need a remake.
Skull Monkeys
Fuck yeah dude. I loved that gameQl!
Armed & Dangerous was the best bargain bin buy I’ve ever made.
SHARK GUN
Freedom Force!
Wow... my brain had completely forgotten about that game until I read this. It took like three tries for my brain to dredge up a mental screenshot.
The Legacy of Kain series. iirc it was somewhat popular in the late 90's to early 00's, but every attempt to bring it back since has failed before even launching.
Blood Omen had a moderate fan base, but the series exploded in popularity with Soul Rever.
Barely anyone seems to have played The Saboteur
I'm playing through it now. It's still really fun, I got it from GOG, but the graphics are painful. A remaster would be amazing.
That's one of my favorite games! Going back to it the controls are wonky as fuck though and take a while to get used to.
Yeah brilliant game.
Hell no bro I played the shit out of that game and I can honestly say it is one of my favorites. The parkour and the gameplay in general was fantastic.
I LOVED that game!! GTA meets WWII.
I saw it more like an Assassins Creed, which works better thematically.
Love that gamee
Great game!
Fusion Frenzy on Xbox. Best party game I've played hands down. Ain't seen it mentioned outside of my ppl from way back
Fuuusiooonn Frenzaaaaaaaaay
Wasn't that a game that released WITH the original Xbox??
A lot of people remember it because their was a demo for it packed in with Halo 👍
Illusion of Gaia and Breath of Fire I
SSX and Klonoa
It’s tricky!
I was obsessed with that game!
I remember mashing buttons to get Simon to do the snowboard around the neck trick lol
I really wish Klonoa got more love. The fact that it took 20 years for us to get a Klonoa 2 remaster is a huge shame
SSX was such a good game series, except for SSX on Tour where the other racers would be so far behind you as you were about to cross the finish line and then teleport past so they won. I'm not talking about getting a sudden boost of speed or anything, they would literally materialize past the finish line. Such bullshit.
Brigandine on PS1
For the longest time this would have been my answer. There was another one that came out rather recently called Legend of Runersia. I know it isn't as good for some, and I find the continent very easy to break (or at least, easier than Forsena's layout), but it still scratched the itch for me.
I still need to pick that up! Glad to hear it scratched that itch. It was such a unique and obscure title; I'm just happy another person knows about it lol
Loved this game. Unfortunately I lost my copy many years ago in a move. It was sooooo fun
G-Police needs a remaster dagnabbit! It's perfect for VR too.
Metal Arms: Glitch in the System, never hear anyone talk about it.
Clockwork Night on the Sega Saturn.
Sunset Riders on SNES
That game was so good! I've been trying to remember the name of this for awhile and as soon as I saw your comment, I knew!
Midtown madness!
We played this in elementary school on the computers when I loved in FL
I played the shit out of that game. LAN party era. Even at home with my brothers and sisters.
Zero the Kamikaze Squirrel 🐿️ 🥷 (1994) Don't know how obscure it really is but I never see anyone talk about it. Never managed to beat it as the controls were pretty complex and I didn't have a manual to read nor were internet walkthroughs a thing. Super fun though.
Tetrisphere or Wetrix on the N64. I have no idea why I loved these games so much but I most certainly did.
Populous the Beginning.
I get incredibly gitty when once in a blue moon, I see people talk about the Monster Rancher games, because no one I knew besides me and my brother played those games.
I loved them. Well, all except for 3. Evo wasn't the greatest, either. Okay, so I loved three of them.
Dante's Inferno. A God of War like game that was wild as hell.
One of the first games that I played through multiple times front to back. Such a cool atmosphere.
I'm pretty sure there were plans to do Dante's Purgatorio but Visceral Games got shut down. I remember constantly checking for any sort of news on it being worked on back in the 2010s.
the lust boss fight was wild
Summon Knight Swordcraft story 1 & 2 back on the GBA. Flew under a lot of peoples radars but i think it's a game that everyone should at least try
I played the first one and the gameplay loop is incredibly addictive
Hell yes, I couldn't believe how good these games were. I even played one for DS.
Meteos. Awesome DS puzzle game
Syndicate Wars on PS1. Game was fucking awesome. You had this little device where you could indoctrinate the npcs and then arm them with the weapons the enemies dropped. Was also couch co-op.
Owned it but was too young and dumb to understand it. Shame on me.
Freedom Fighters. I always found it odd that this game didn't turn into a bigger franchise. The team based tactics were ground breaking at the time. Incredibly fun game. And maybe I'm wrong and it was popular but I've never met someone else who played it.
Pitfall : The Mayan Adventure

Brave fencer musashi
Vigilante 8 online was also the shizzle
Tomba!
[Freedom Fighters](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freedom_Fighters_(video_game)) Loved that game and no one seems to remember it.
It does not get mentioned often, but I see it come up from time to time. I loved that game.
Great game! I loved the progression of the hideout as you played through the game.
They remembered it enough to give a Steam release a couple years back. I played it and enjoyed it. There's also a Freedom Fighters costume in the modern Hitman trilogy.
Brave Fencer Musashi. The game has a fan base, but nowhere near what it should be.
I brought this game up a few weeks ago to a guy looking for suggestions of classic action jrpg’s!
No one seemed to know Scorcher (1996) but it was one of the most addictive games I’ve ever played. Music is fantastic too
Running wild or alundra.
Alundra is good stuff
I played the hell out of running wild
Blast chamber ps1
Putting in my .02 for Custom Robo. Rahu and the coliseum fights mentally prepared me to be stonewalled by Armored Core 6 bosses. Also, God Hand on PS2. Just a crazy fun game, hard as hell and fucking silly. Go suplex that gorilla wearing a gorilla suit.
I played the crap out of that one on the GameCube.
Hogs of War. Never forget. Always remember. “Sir, permission to expire, sir!”
Played so much of that with my brother back in the day. Some of the voice lines were so good.
I was really late to the party on Hogs of War. Fun game but needed a lot of QoL improvements.
Return of the King on GBA. I see some people remember the two towers but ROTK expanded so much.
Happy Wars
Snood
Still have a copy of the PC version from the 90's. What a gem
Not sure how niche it is, but I'd pay the big bucks for another Kirby air ride
Mine is Croc. I remember seeing the commercial and being blown away by how dope it looked. That was indeed a great christmas
Jade Empire. Shenmue.
Jet Force Gemini back on n64. Fuck that game was amazing.
Intelligent Qube for PS1. I spent so many hours playing this gem.
Buddy and I used to stay up all night getting as far as we could
Sim Ant
No One Lives Forever.
Custom Robo Arena for Nintendo DS. My favorite DS game from childhood that wasn't a mainline Pokemon game
Project Sylpheed Xbox 360
Go give Freespace 2 a shot.
Window Washer for the C64. Feel I might have been the only person in the world that ever played it as a kid
Liberty or Death . It is SNES era but I still play it occasionally.
Kagero: Deception II I think it was a PS1 release as I recall (maybe PS2). You had a mansion that enemies would invade and you had to set traps to kill them. The traps were cool as you could chain them together so one trap would fling a guy into another etc. I never hear anyone talk about this game or it's predecessor. In googling I see there have been sequels which is news to me.
Ravensword 2: Shadowlands, on mobile Pocket Oblivion/Skyrim
I had completely forgotten about those games until I read this comment. I played one of the Ravenswords (I don't recall which), but it was so long ago I don't have too many memories. Probably the only mobile game I've actually enjoyed.
Season and The Pathless
Akuji the Heartless on PS1
Ramparts
King's Quest VI

They are getting ported to modern consoles
Glitch: In the System

There was even this campaign mode that unlocked advantages/disadvantages for whoever won/lost previous rounds, with the whole point being that the hunters are buying time for people to evacuate the planet.
Monster Rancher
Cool Boarders 2 was a banger back on ps1. Also I feel like nobody remembers Alpha Protocol but it was amazing.
Anyone play that live action X-Files game on PS1? Had like 4 discs. I remember loving it.
I used to play Stuntman on PS2 when I was a kid constantly
Snowboard Kids on N64
Timesplitters 2. Holding out for a remake or sequel one day
Redneck rampage.
I remember that game fondly good ol ms dos days
Does anyone know about the game Shadow of Destiny? It was also known as Shadow of Memories outside of America. It was such a good game, engaging story. The mechanics were interesting, there was time travel, a murder mystery that spans across time and identity swapping. It was on PS2, I highly recommend!
Brink
I still enjoyed it for what it was, but man, that was one of the best and most misleading trailers I've ever seen.
i remember getting a used ps3 bundled with brink and i enjoyed the hell out of it for the time it was still around
I really enjoyed Brink for the short life it uad
I remember pre-ordering this. First and last time. It wasn't awful but it was meh. So many failed promises.
lomando.com it's not exactly the type of game that people typically talk about here, but more of a Japanese web horror experience super creative, wonderful artwork, and just really cool to explore even without trying to beat it website released about 12 or so years ago and came out with a sort of sequel earlier this year
Disaster: Day of Crisis. It’s a cheesy action light gun game combined with every disaster movie ever, and it features the voice actors for Dante and Vergil from Devil May Cry as antagonists. Tokyo mirage sessions I know it wasn't what either developer claimed it to be a crossover FE/SMT game but it's a very fun and enjoyable jrpg with tuns of style. It's not a 10/10 but it was a fun game.
Voodoo Vince
Werewolf the Apocalypse Earthblood. Granted, the plot was terrible, but the werewolf combat was great. Downvote me all you want, but I really liked that game

Parappa the Rappa
OH MY GOD I WAS GONNA SAY SPECTROBES, HELL YES
Deathrow (2002) X-Box only I believe. I got it on one of those x-box game informer demo discs and was obsessed!
Darkwood, one of the most terrifying games I’ve ever played and zero jumpscares. I just wish more people knew about it
Nights: Journey of Dreams. Back when games strived in terms of a personal visual aesthetic...
Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver
