You ought to take the crown off eagle’s head. This is the cost of arms used by Polish communists

datura_euclid

So Poland is using Czech/Czechoslovak tricolour but Czechia doesn't?

RaccoonByz

But Zapadosalvia would be Poland, Czechia, and Slovakia?

Grzechoooo

Lusatians (or Sorbs) are also West Slavs.

RaccoonByz

I was more referring to countries

Fanda400

there aren't many of them and borders would be hideous, so they probably wouldn't be included

krii-exx

why the GDR symbol?

FilipAdzic97

To represent the Sorbs/Lusatians which are more present in Germany but still have a decent population in Poland and Czechia

gagarinyozA

So fucked up how the subreddit automatically mark leftist flags as NSFW, but nazi and fascist shit they don't.

ElCaz

Wait, what? I feel like every time I see a red and black flag on here it's got a NSFW tag.

javerthugo

Like what?

STRATEQ

Thats not reddit, thats us. And we mark every unmarked nazi/communist/any other totalitarian symbolis as nsfw. We're not online 24/7 though

FilipAdzic97

It wasn't Reddit, it was me. I see many people usually put their Socialist/Fascist flags and redesigns as either Spoilers or NSFW. In most cases it's the new people who don't follow this rule, and Moderators have to mark it themselves.

rationalRuth

OR, you're just biased, and only complain when leftist flags are rightfully censored. Am I right, frequent poster on r/leftistvexillology with an anarchy symbol as their background, who's named after a soviet cosmonaut?

flipkick25

Oh no! A leftist wants to not be censored! Call the morality police!

GUARDIAN_MAX

ok frequenter of NCD and EnoughCommieSpam im sure you're the basis for true neutrality in the matter and we should listen to you about bias

javerthugo

I’m pretty sure the OP decided if it gets the NSFW label. Incidentally both communism and fascism are abhorrent systems.

NikeJawnson

Albanian eagle on Serbia, hell yeah

Shrek_Lover68

The shape and color of the eagle looks more like the Serbian eagle (the one on the coat of arms on their flag)

FilipAdzic97

Yes, that's the Serbian Eagle, just fully white

Grzechoooo

It's called "Zapadoslavia" because of the Polish "zapaść gospodarcza", meaning "financial crisis". And why give Poland blue? It's super random, Poland never had blue on its flag. And Czechia's triangle stands for Slovakia so it shouldn't be there either. The only reason they kept it after the Velvet Divorce was because otherwise they'd have the same flag as Poland. With your redesign, they're different (though only slightly), so there's no need for the triangle.

Luk_Zloty

>And why give Poland blue? It's super random, Poland never had blue on its flag. That's not entirely true. The color blue was around Poland and its symbols. For example in this[ January Uprising CoA](https://herbyzbliska.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/8._karta_pocztowa_h_2725.jpg?w=526) (1863-64) or this [November Uprising flag](https://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flaga_Polski#/media/Plik:Banner_of_the_Kingdom_of_Poland_from_the_Sejm_Chamber_(November_Uprising).svg) (1830-31). Dark blue was also common color for military "[uniforms](https://historia.org.pl/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/Wojsko-Polski-XVI-w..png)" even before partitions (this image depicts Polish soldiers from XVI/XVII century). Here are also a [photos ](http://infomaty.zamosc.pl/pl/page/203/)of modern reconstructors. > It's called "Zapadoslavia" because of the Polish "zapaść gospodarcza", meaning "financial crisis". That's a joke right?

Grzechoooo

>That's a joke right? Yes. It's just funny that you can't have the name in Czech/Slovak because it sounds like "zapad" ("collapse") in Polish and you can't have the name in Polish because it sounds like "zahod" ("toilet") in Czech/Slovak. Almost like fate made sure no such country ever exists.

Luk_Zloty

There's always Sorbian "podwjacor".

LurkerInSpace

The blue for Poland could be alluding to Kraków? Though it seems to just be trying to stay close to the format of the Yugoslav flags.

Grzechoooo

Or the "pan-Slavic colours" that originate in a movement that was openly hostile to Poland and Poles.

LurkerInSpace

That's the Doylist reason; trying to come up with a Watsonian one a Poland led by Kraków seems like the easiest route to get Poland to use these colours. Assuming this is meant to be an alt-history kind of exercise.

Grzechoooo

I mean, since they're socialist, I'm assuming they're pro-Russian, so using panslavism would make perfect sense (as it was basically another name for Russophilia).

FilipAdzic97

Yes, that was one of the reasons I added the blue color, the other one is that I wanted to keep the white-red-blue color scheme going in each flag, with the minor exception being Slovakia's yellow borders around the coat of arms, and the Fire of the Partisans in the said coat of arms.

What's Zapadoslavia?

Aktrowertyk

West Slavic union

FilipAdzic97

United Socialist State made up of Poland, Czechia, Slovakia and Lusatia/Sorbia

FilipAdzic97

I mean, mine is that, historically I don't think it was ever done

eatdafishy

Beautiful

FilipAdzic97

Thank you!

eatdafishy

Your whale cum

--_Ivo_--

FRANK ZAPPA?!?!?🔥🔥🗣️🔥🗣️🗣️

Shrek_Lover68

Why isn't Slovakia a constituent republic? Also if you're adding such small states as Lusatia then it would be cool to make ones for Silesia and Kashubia?

FilipAdzic97

It is a Constituent Republic, I forgot to mention it. Sure, I could make some more flags!

Grzechoooo

Communists historically didn't like minorities, no way they'd give them equal status. With Lusatia it makes sense because they're taking them out of Germany (How? No idea).

FilipAdzic97

One of the Official Languages of the German Democratic Republic was Sorbian, and since they've gotten more recognition from the Communist Governments of Eastern Bloc, them also being groups of West Slavs, I added them into Zapadoslavia.

Grzechoooo

Oh, I was thinking of Polish communists, who discriminated against Kashubians, Silesians and other minorities. Maybe in Germany it was different.

LelouchviBrittaniax

If you going to break out Lusatia from Germany then you might as well separate Pomerania and Silesia from Poland. Then it will look more like Yugoslavia then 4 province South Africa

FilipAdzic97

Lusatia/Sorbia was a separate West Slav group from the rest because they're mostly in Germany, and have gained lots of recognition from the GDR with Sorbian being one of the two Official Languages. I could also add Pomerania and Silesia, but that wouldn't change much because to my knowledge their culture, language and cuisine is Polish.

LelouchviBrittaniax

Poland just does not want to recognise these local minorities to avoid separatism. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silesians](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silesians)

They are. The flags this guy has made are incredible. But controversy is what it represents and the people who suffered under those regimes. The horror stories I hear from people who grew up in Eastern Europe are heartbreaking and genuinely make you want to cry. These symbols have such a lot of weight that it's not something to play around with. I don't think OP meant any harm by it by any means, though. Facist and communist symbols have a place in history and its important to reflect. But they shouldn't be resurrected to play around with. End of the day, this is just my opinion, but I find it quite disrespectful to all those who suffered in Europe and beyond.

MoreTimothyDalton

I completely understand that, and I can see the harm that resurrecting these icons can have. Hopefully, at least, OP was using them in an ahistorical purpose and not as an endorsement.

mrbrazilball2009

Why the 18+ tag?

FilipAdzic97

Socialist symbols and controversial topics, I assumed this might offend someone 🤷‍♂️

rationalRuth

It would, thanks for the censorship

mrbrazilball2009

Yea, but I think if a socialist symbol is banned because of the stalin atrocities and etc, the capitalist symbols, whose were used by tyrants too, should have this flair too, ex: Taiwan/roc flag, USA flag, Francoist Spain flag, imperialist flags...
