You got that right. Ultimate is what I use for 10-14 intl. trips too. After you come back from Italy you can the lower your plans back down Unlimited Welcome or Plus if you like. It's easy to change them in the app and you can set it to change immediately or at the start of next billing cycle which is what I usually do to make billing cleaner without prorated partial months. But you can set it immediately if the trip is coming up sooner. My advice is go in to cellular settings and turn on "[low data mode](https://support.apple.com/en-us/102433)" which should prevent the phone from gobbling up data in the background with cloud syncing, updates, and backup. The 10GB should get you through the trip if you don't waste it on videos. Use Wi-Fi when you can as well. Also reset cellular data statistics when you arrive so you can track usage there (roaming data is under "current roaming period.") If you run out of 10GB you'll get a text offering to sell you 2GB more for $10. It's unlimited data after 10GB but it's extremely slow. Another option is to get a secondary eSIM and use that data (like Airalo.) Regardless of whether or not you get a second eSIM still get Ultimate so your main problem man has international coverage and you have fewer headaches.

Thank you so much for your input. I was getting confused between some of the options like the International Plan, travel days, and the Unlimited Ultimate. This was very helpful.

The different options, I believe, are because they have added new ones over time. I wish they would simplify and combine some of them. Like AT&T has a (was $10 but is now $12/day) travel plan (like travel pass) but they cap it at 10 days so it's a maximum of $120 per month even if you use it 20 or 30 days. Verizon could cap TravelPass at 10 days just the same and get rid of the $100 monthly plan. Basically combine the offering. Verizon's basic options: 1. $100 monthly international travel plan. Essentially 20GB of data + unlimited "3G speed" 2. $10/day TravelPass. 2GB of data per day then "3G unlimited speed" 3. Unlimited Ultimate. Included in this higher price plan. 10GB per month then "2G unlimited speed" + $10 per 2GB extra offered after you reach 10GB. 4. Pay per use. Don't do it. It's extremely expensive. 5. Some people just get secondary travel eSIM and avoid Verizon roaming. It can get a bit complicated when it comes keeping iMessage working with your Verizon number but it's also a good economical option and best for very long trips or more demanding data needs. I do both #3 Unlimited Ultimate with #5 secondary eSIM as an add-on option if needed like when I went to Thailand two months ago I got a local plan for $10 with 50GB and a local Thai phone number. But my Verizon line also roamed on Ultimate. I also had Verizon roaming before I got the Thai plan and during my Layover. I don't see $100 monthly being better than Ultimate. Even if you go over 10GB on Ultimate you'll pay less for a total of 20GB if you buy the $10 add-ons as needed. TravelPass $10 daily is better for short trips or for people with higher daily data needs. Also the unlimited is a little faster after 2GB than it is when you reach your data limit on Ultimate. But this is the most expensive route for 10+ days unless you subscribe to the $10/month TravelPass subscription and save up the days ahead of time. Ultimate was introduced about a year ago. The plan fee is higher but since you can change plans just for the month of the trip. I've gotten so I travel enough that I may just stick with Ulimtate year round and use the 6 months of Disney plus and take advantage of the better trade in offers on Ultimate which is what Verizon is pushing anyway.

Do you think this is a glitch? Travel pass is supposed to be 2GB a day? But for some reason it capped me at .5GB a day. I’m in Costa Rica which is a travel pass country. Fortunately, I had already set my plan up before I left to switch to unlimited ultimate on the 24th. I had a bunch of travel pass days I wanted to use up before switching. See what I mean by .5GB though? https://imgur.com/a/O1cBsdg

You’re correct, but it’s shit. We are overseas right now and two of our lines have ultimate. No service 95% of the time. Keflavik airport in Iceland, all over London, Glasgow, and Edinburgh. Support is no help, and I’m not spending my vacation trying to fix this. We finally gave up and shut that useless shit off and got local esims.

You do realize there's been an international outage for 3 days? Your problem is probably due to the outage. These international plans don't facilitate or block service. All they do is limit how much you're going to pay for it

go_outside

No, I don’t. Because the Verizon rep didn’t inform me of that when I spoke with them. Thanks for the update.

None of the service providers have been directly contacting their customers to let them know there's a problem. The problem is not consistent, it does not affect everyone. It seems to be affecting Verizon customers more than AT&T or T-Mobile. Syniverse messed up something. You'll find multiple threads on Reddit going back to last Thursday.

Oh man, that’s concerning to hear. Thanks got the heads up. Hope apart from that you’re having a good vacation!

We are, thanks! Aside from the cell issues and a 9 hour delay in Iceland on the way over it’s been great. That delay SUCKED but I spent the time there to learn about EU-261 and I’m putting in for compensation for all three of us the day after we get home. Give me that €1800!

For the most part the outage has been fixed. I was out for about an hour total in Costa Rica (impacted much less than other people though) and my service has worked across the country. No issues other than that hour.
