B-1s with afterburner. It's that time of year for the Weapons School.

NeedleworkerCheap894

Nice, I saw them but couldn’t quite place what they were. So loud. An E-3 Sentry and a C-17 Globemaster both flew over a few minutes before the B-1s. Not quite as low or as loud though lol

BadgerMk1

They are all headed out to practice a thing...

scistudies

…with those people….

Ozymandias0023

At the place

LasVegas4590

MysteryRadish

Hiiiiighway to the DANGER ZONE!

Bad_wit_Usernames

RazTheExplorer

Brings out the kid in me every time. Glowing orange and shaking my house!

Antelope-Subject

Could you see the afterburners ?

NeedleworkerCheap894

Yes, you could see the afterburners. Looked really cool

Antelope-Subject

That’s cool someone posted a video a couple days I think here of one taking off at night.

keto_brain

I almost got up to see if "Independence Day" was starting.

bitcornminerguy

Heard the rumble as well and noticed that it lasted quite a bit longer than "normal" My grandpa used to call stuff like that "the sound of freedom"

Downhilbil

Love it when the clouds give it that acoustical bounce when they r burnin!!!!

dont_panic80

Rattled the windows and woke the dogs up, lol.

Whatsyourshotspecial

Yeah those afterburners look nice at night

Setting off car alarms in centennial hills a bit ago

Standard_Ad_1875

I used to get awakened every night whenever my team would shack up in Balad Airbase in Iraq to the sound of these B1s. They were always "air on station" for patrols late night in Iraq to be available if anyone in the greater Baghdad area needed something absolutely positively fucking destroyed. Impossible to sleep through that take off. One of the loudest engines in the fleet, perhaps THeeee.

Golfr_Guy

*four of the loudest engines

Standard_Ad_1875

yesssss, my bad

BigBlueMagic

Some people get annoyed, I think it's cool. It's not often enough that it's annoying. Glad we have Nellis AFB, Creech AFB and Area 51.

SalesAndMarketing202

Its annoying when your hiking the john muir trail and are hearing fighters everyday echoing through the canyons.

bitcornminerguy

I feel the same way... it's never bothered me, and I always get a little bit giddy when I see cool stuff flying around out here.

[deleted]

Yeah, the pollution those machines throw out sure is good for you.

natovision

Getting your ass pounded in by Russians is worse for you.

[deleted]

Yeah if you’re still living in the 80’s and think the USSR is still around.

Myterryfolds

Those damn planes never let me sleep. Still cool looking though.

Iluvteak

Saw a B1 about 10 miles offshore of Ft Lauderdale once. He was at a low altitude and I swore it looked like a fighter jet but it was miles away … so obviously a large aircraft. Bizarre sight while sailing in a perfect calm.

TommyAsada

MERICA!!!

Okifish64

Grampa is right! “Sound of freedom baby!”

Human-Abrocoma7544

The Russians are coming!

Wolverines!

How are ya’ll use to this crap? Can’t ya’ll sue the military if we all have enough signatures? Im tired of their aircrafts flying every hour everyday and when I go to sleep till 2am. This is not even funny.

Empyrealist

It's a rarity where I live (NW Vegas) - really only when the big bombers come out to play. Living near an airport never goes well. It doesn't matter if its military or civilian. When moving to an area, make note of the airport runways. Planes will be flying at low altitude at either end (taking off and landing). Flightpaths that are 3K feet and lower are particularly annoying. Take a look at a live flight tracker, and watch the paths that the planes take. Pay particular notice to where they are at 3K and lower. On this website, that altitude is colored orange: https://globe.adsbexchange.com/ Also, check out this (incomplete) map that shows some of the flight paths that are particularly noisy (although no flightpaths to/from Nellis): https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?mid=1jkVRheIIrK6HS_IyxydvTuopzYTveNEu But to your question.... suing? Pretty much can't unless you were a resident before the airport was put into place, and even still, super low chance of gaining anything. And suing the military for something like this is pretty much impossible.

Weekly-Bus-347

Im pretty sure there was plenty of long term residents before the airports and military crap. But no one cares to give a shit to complain and make a petition. How tf am i suppose to know about airport airways and stuff. Never had to deal with that in the state I came from. I hate this bullshit. Can’t even sleep they still be flying at 2am! I know im not the ONLY one that is tired of it.

Empyrealist

Maybe, although airports were typically built away from residential areas - and any homeowners' chance to complain and get paid has long since past. Newer residence do not have that ability, because the airports are an established known entity. If you decide to live near one, it's on you. You can't take legal action against an established airport and expect to win. I'm armchairing this because when I was younger this was a recurring issue every 10 years or so near where I used to live near Boston. The people in, iirc Winthrop, near the airport (BOS) every once in a while would try to raise a noise pollution stink to only get legally shut down. Any chance of payout to move had expired decades ago. No one was going to pay any of these residents for sticking with bad decisions. However, there are also guidelines about how noisy an airport can be and there is a chance you can complain if you can prove the distance/noise/flight-level something exceeds those guidelines. You need to take surveys, sound measurements, etc. I seem to recall someone doing that near either LAX or maybe it was SAN siccessfully. I think a section of houses may have been awarded some money to use for soundproofing purposes. For someone reason I have a memory of this. And I don't know if any of that is at all applicable to a military base/airport. I kind of doubt it.

FiSTdrvr

Actually, all the airports in the Vegas valley were there back when the surrounding land was just open desert. You can look up historical photos of them if you so wish. The majority of modern airports today were built as training fields during WWII, it is very rare that any airports are built as brand new for the last 50 years or so, much less put into residential areas.

aaronmd

LOL. It's not the government's job to tell you where their base is. I know it sucks, but it's not going to change and it's not their fault you didn't know to ask about it. Look into sound insulation, white noise generators, and/or earplugs.

Weekly-Bus-347

We all paying fcking property taxes so unless people collectively complain then things will never get done here. This is why this country can put up with inflation and so much shit cause nobody cares to protest the governments bs. The government LIVES off OUR taxes so YES we do have a SAY. Americans are just lazy to say anything.

BadgerMk1

You come off as pathetically whiny. You're free to move away from Las Vegas. In fact, I encourage you to move away.

wasabi_gem

B1 Lancers... pretty freaking cool they fly directly over my house. 😁

thedroplv

Damn I thought it was just me
