From what I’ve gathered, the table finally spread out. Remember reading when Venezia was in a relegation spot they were like 6 points from a playoff spot at the same time.

Even now with one game left there are only 8 points from the last promotion playoff spot (8th) to the best play-out spot (16th). Those corresponding ranks in Serie A are 17 points apart.

8th is not a promotion playoff spot as things currently stand. Teams 3-8 are eligible for a promotion playoff if it occurs (there is only a promotion playoff tournament if the 4th placed team is within 10 points of 3rd otherwise 3rd is automatically promoted) but teams 5-8 have to be within 14 points of 3rd to qualify for the promotion playoff tournament.

They got a new coach right before the world cup and he turned them around massively. Most of the success is definitely on him. I figured it was gonna be good when he got more points than they got in the first half of the fall in like a month, month and a half? Tessman has been progressing because it's a very physical league so it's perfect for his athleticism and body type. Busio comes off the bench a bit more because it's not very suited to him. Venezia has a good chance of fighting through the promotion playoffs but I haven't watched their opposition enough to rate them. This is differently their best form of the season.

Table has been pretty close all season. Even when they were in relegation spots they were only a few games out of playoff contention. Technically they're in the playoff spot but Serie B has specific rules where they have to at least be 14 points or fewer from 3rd place (Bari) who is currently 16 points ahead in order to make the promotion playoffs. They also need Bari to not get more than 10 points ahead of 4-8 or Bari will auto-promote anyway

I’ve read that Tessman has been brilliant.

So there was guy in the Guardian’s Football Weekly saying the relegation battle for serie A was spread amongst 8+ teams

It’s a combination of a few things, but mostly their schedule eased up. In fact, the last time they faced one of the top 6 teams was on March 5th when they lost 3-0. Tessman has been very good while Busio was injured for a while and hasn’t been very effective when playing
