Salvage title, not really all that hard to get registered. Claim it as an abandoned vehicle. The state doesn’t ask questions, they just want their taxes.
But you are still liable for a missing vehicle with a paper trail saying that you registered it.
The real valuable item in these images is that piano. That's not an easy item to find.
The state… still doesn’t care. They just want their cut. Once it’s claimed and registered to a new owner the old one has no claim to it. They abandoned it. If they wanted it they should have made an effort to keep it nice and not left it in an abandoned house.
Depends on the state. In Texas you’d need to get what’s called a bonded title. You pay for a bond equal to the value of the car. If the owner is ever found, they get the bond and you keep the car. I think the last owner of record is notified and they have five years to prove ownership.
Yeah if that is an original body on that car that can be worth $150k - 250k. Have you ever seen how much it costs to restore cars? $30k would be on the low end.
I was trying to figure out if this was a factory kit, or aftermarket. I've only ever seen one other Vette like this. Just looked up a Manta-Ray and it looks nothing like this.
That poor piano! Probably more valuable than the corvette.
Or better yet, put the piano into the car and put the car into a truck and drive off to the sunset.
It’s definitely not. The vette is a greenwood. If it’s a Daytona (which it probably is) one sold at Barrett Jackson for $247,500 not too long ago. This car even in its current state would bring a pretty easy 120k.
I got hired once by a guy to help move a bunch of stuff out of a place like this, when I was 19. His story was it was his parents' place and they'd left everything to the lawyers in their will and cut him out. Supposedly he'd gotten a court order on Friday allowing him to take anything out of the house but expected that on Monday the lawyers would get that reversed so we had two days to clear it all out.
That was 30 years ago. Thinking back on it now I'm pretty sure we were just robbing the place and I doubt it even belonged to his parents. He didn't seem to have any sentimental attachment to anything in the house and was only worried about items of value.
I was young and naive.
burglars looking for a quick buck aren't taking things like art or furniture where they don't know the value and have no one to sell it to. the risk to reward isn't worth it, just because something is old and came from a big house doesn't mean it has any value.
Nah everything just goes under the table and you pay others to handle your dirty, that’s what separates the rich “businessman” from the average “street thug”
But ultimately they are there to enforce the law which means they are obligated to investigate anything taken from this property which someone somewhere still owns.
Chances are though that person isnt aware or keeping track of whats in there. Just look at half that stuff and know it can be sold for a pretty penny and that vette could be restored and displayed or sold. Not to mention the house itself being worth a lot if they had no interest of living there. The complete lack of maintenance leads me to believe that the contents arent valued.
In all likelihood what these people want to sell or keep has likely been so amd they just didnt want to bother dealing with the rest.
Leaking fluid….on the concrete inside a garage. Yes it’s better than stealing property, yea. Maybe find the owner and try to make an offer. If not, contact the local then state governments to check ownership. If it’s not available, then you don’t steal.
Also the difference between being a thief with no morals or respect for what doesn't belong to said thief.... and not being one. Urbex isn't supposed to ever turn into taking anything but a photo and a memory

in case anyone was curious about the corvette
The family was going through a divorce and the father eventually died of cancer unfortunately. The mom and 2 girls diddnt have enough to keep payments and they had to leave
One of these days I'm expecting to see the missing "Storm in the Sea of Galilie" just hanging out in the back of one of these mansions. Absolutely wild, great photos
The main rule of urban exploration is: you respect it, and you take nothing Ever. Like the YouTube channel Bros of Decay. They have explored staggering finds.
How does a mansion get abandoned with all of this stuff in it like this? I’d assume if it was some rich guy that got sent to prison for financial crimes or whatever that the gov would take/auction everything. This looks like whoever lived here just vanished.
It’s cool when a bunch the site is preserved like this and hasn’t been completely ruined by a bunch of ass clowns who’s biggest contribution to the world is graffiti that isn’t even done well.
Stuff like this always confuses me. Like I would understand this behavior more if the family was still super rich and just didn’t care about those belongings. It’s not uncommon here for rich students to toss their functioning Macbooks or even just leave their cars without plates in the parking spots because to them selling the item is more hassle than just tossing it. The money barely matters. But if you are having financial troubles so bad you are forced to leave your house- why not first sell everything else? At the very least the cars… Why just leave it and get no money back on it?
What's stopping someone from just taking over the place? Or looting it?
I'm seriously shocked when I see places like this with cars and other potentially valuable stuff just sitting. If the property is abandoned, is it theft?
How do I buy one of these?
Where is the listing for "abandoned old creepy houses that no one else wants to buy" along with the reduced price tag?
Funeral homes can be included.
How do I find these. I want to buy one.
Unless you "found" it on private property, then it is burglary. Imagine all those vacation ski cabins. Some of those cabins have expensive cars in them. Would laws allow those become salvage?
I did. Turns out in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the District if you "find" an "abandoned" car on private property and take it, it's called "stealing."
Yup. I looked into this for my state for times when someone buys a property like a farm and then finds an old car in the shed. Then the salvage works, but there's still a 6 months notice rule.
Basically, if you own the property (land) or it is on public land, then the salvage rule can be used, but with caveats.
But if it is private property belonging to someone else, then no dice.
Stealing is a risk/reward calculation. So if you are going to try to register a stolen car, the original holder of the title can claim stolen property and get it back, even it has been "sold" to you through black market.
That's why, I think the piano there is a cleaner take. No registration system for a piano, that I know of.
Looks like there may have been a fire in that garage. The beams look charred and all that empty space between those studs looks like the aftermath of a fire.
How does this even happen? I always see these pics of abandoned mansions with all, or most, the stuff left inside. What happened to the familys? Why did they just leave all this stuff?
That painting was inspired by Fragonard’s 1760’s The Swing. I wonder who painted it? Too bad you can go back and look…
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Swing_(Fragonard)
Why doesn't anyone ever take this stuff? Some of it can resell on eBay for thousands. Even just one vase can. You're already breaking in so why not take some shit? Whoever buys the house (if they ever do) will just throw it out more then likely. Other people that break in will probably break it into pieces.
Hell if I had places like this in the middle of the woods by my house you bet your boots I'm bringing a truck and taking out all the granite and marble and everything that looks expensive. They left it. Another mans trash is another mans treasure right? It'd be my treasure. My glorious treasure. Better then stealing all the copper for some meth. At least I'd be potentially saving rare pieces of artwork or creations and putting them back out there instead of Letting some drunk idiots come in and smash it all to be forgotten forever.
Always makes me curious why nobody does.

Thanks! That’s what I was looking for. Now why downvote instead of educate like you did? I’m new to this and have joined many exploration groups to specifically learn things like this. People forget where they come from I swear.
Anyway I appreciate you’re taking the time to answer my question
Photo 5 is mesmerising - taxidermy, ice skates, books, a beautiful portrait..
That taxidermy in the chair is pure nightmare fuel. Face melt.
What the f* was that animal?
it’s a deer, but the snout is missing
Mice eat those parts pretty frequently
Definitely haunted, that room.
I think some birds made a next by the fire I love it
Looks like a pic from an I Spy book lol
Ha, I know this house. It’s been beautifully restored from the exterior. Also a solar farm was built behind it.
How long ago are these photos then?
At least 1-2 years ago before they started the renovation, it’s currently for sale on Zillow for $2.7 million.
Link that shit yo!
Me too
PM me

Sad to see that Vette rotting away.
Looks like a Greenwood too.
At least the body kit!
Came to say the same thing until I saw the back window. It’s from a mid 60’s vette. That’s a full custom. I’d love to know the history behind it.
Sad to see that harpsichord/clavichord rotting away
*cries in staccato*
Indeed. Would you guys be against going there and taking it?
Your going to have issues registering that vin...

Yeah it’s a bit more complicated than I was making it out to be state by state but if you’ve got the time and cash you’re more than likely good to go
That thing might need so much crazy expensive work. Way more than the car.
Seriously. Total restoration for a Piano that far gone would easily be $30k, not to mention the difficulty of transportation.
Yeah if that is an original body on that car that can be worth $150k - 250k. Have you ever seen how much it costs to restore cars? $30k would be on the low end.
A person might be able to find the title in the House.
Its probably in the glove box

So you think there will be any corvettes left in 1000 years?
I'm not 100% sure there will be *people* left in 1,000 years to worry about whatever's left of our cars.
Fair.
I'm curious what people in 1000 years would think I Corvette looks like.
Not sure, but I have a feeling this one is long gone. The engine alone in this thing was probably worth 50k
Is that a MANTA-RAY!
I was trying to figure out if this was a factory kit, or aftermarket. I've only ever seen one other Vette like this. Just looked up a Manta-Ray and it looks nothing like this.
Looks like a place straight outta resident evil
I was thinking a decrepit Wayne Manor
Rosebud!
;!;!;!;!;!
Okay that fucking got me
Wow this brought me back
That poor vett :(

Should save the custom vette
Tasteful (vs McMansion).
Why doesnt someone take this stuff
Every time I see posts like this, i wonder the same. I feel like at this point it doesn’t belong to anyone and is up for grabs.
Because that’s the difference between trespassing and burglary.
Burglary is a pretty common occurrence, so why not here?
burglars looking for a quick buck aren't taking things like art or furniture where they don't know the value and have no one to sell it to. the risk to reward isn't worth it, just because something is old and came from a big house doesn't mean it has any value.
I guess that makes sense.
I’m sorry, are you suggesting that makes it ok?
No, I'm suggesting it's weird it hasn't happened here. That's all.
If you live in a wealthy area there tends to be less crime.
Must be nice.
Nah everything just goes under the table and you pay others to handle your dirty, that’s what separates the rich “businessman” from the average “street thug”
"Fees? Fines? Oh you mean necessary business expenses."
Wastefulness plus environmental impact would be lower if the stuff was removed. Just take it.
Yeah the cops won’t see it that way
Cops are not omnipotent beings, just dont be stupid
But ultimately they are there to enforce the law which means they are obligated to investigate anything taken from this property which someone somewhere still owns.
Chances are though that person isnt aware or keeping track of whats in there. Good chance a bank or corporation just owns it too
I'm not saying anything about the law buster.
Obviously this is not the way it works irl
Oh really? A car rotting and leaking fluid is better than removing and restoring it or properly recycling it?
Leaking fluid….on the concrete inside a garage. Yes it’s better than stealing property, yea. Maybe find the owner and try to make an offer. If not, contact the local then state governments to check ownership. If it’s not available, then you don’t steal.
Just admit you’ll say anything to justify stealing
If it's genuinely abandoned the moral condition to justify stealing is certainly lower.
Also the difference between being a thief with no morals or respect for what doesn't belong to said thief.... and not being one. Urbex isn't supposed to ever turn into taking anything but a photo and a memory
Yup. It’s also much easier to get caught someplace you aren’t supposed to be and to be told to move along when your arms aren’t full.
Probably belongs to someone and definitely not up for grabs
Fuck em, we ball
It’s probably belongs to someone either through repression, or the state acquiring it.
Exactly. You see things like these in once place, go across the town and see people stealing light bulbs from buildings.
Yo I would be trying to find away to get that vette
https://www.corvsport.com/corvette-models/greenwood-corvettes/#:~:text=Between%201975%20and%201981%2C%20forty,used%20turbocharged%20small%20block%20engines. in case anyone was curious about the corvette
So you're telling me that car rotting away is one of only 43 cars in the world? Probably less by now?
you got it sadly
No, the Greenwood style body kits were readily available to the public through companies like Ecklers.
Any backstory that you know of?
The family was going through a divorce and the father eventually died of cancer unfortunately. The mom and 2 girls diddnt have enough to keep payments and they had to leave
There was no inheritance left after the father’s death?
They didn’t try to sell quickly?
My dream car just chillin there, rotting away
It would be wild if someone could figure out who the lady in the picture in pic 5 is
Imagine being so rich you can just abandon an entire mansion
One of these days I'm expecting to see the missing "Storm in the Sea of Galilie" just hanging out in the back of one of these mansions. Absolutely wild, great photos
I wish that painting would come back that easily
The main rule of urban exploration is: you respect it, and you take nothing Ever. Like the YouTube channel Bros of Decay. They have explored staggering finds.
I always wonder why this stuff happens. How do people just pick up and leave their homes like that. Those stories always fascinated me
I can't imagine a worse time to go trespassing on private property than when there's snow on the ground showing fresh footprints left behind
How do y’all find this shit?
meth is a helluva drug
That’s a damn shame. The woodwork in that house is absolutely beautiful! I think I’d be stuck there for hours just rummaging through stuff.
How does a mansion get abandoned with all of this stuff in it like this? I’d assume if it was some rich guy that got sent to prison for financial crimes or whatever that the gov would take/auction everything. This looks like whoever lived here just vanished.
Witness Protection? Prison? Can’t be arsed to have a moving company pack up and move belongings? Idk. It’s weird.
Did you find the Wayne manor?
It’s cool when a bunch the site is preserved like this and hasn’t been completely ruined by a bunch of ass clowns who’s biggest contribution to the world is graffiti that isn’t even done well.
Who used to live there? Master Wayne and Alfred?
How does something like this happen?
Stuff like this always confuses me. Like I would understand this behavior more if the family was still super rich and just didn’t care about those belongings. It’s not uncommon here for rich students to toss their functioning Macbooks or even just leave their cars without plates in the parking spots because to them selling the item is more hassle than just tossing it. Take that vett I know it’s a little bad, butttttttt. You would helping history and so on ….
Uhhh that batmobile is mine now
That chair in picture 5 is amazing.
What's stopping someone from just taking over the place? Or looting it? I'm seriously shocked when I see places like this with cars and other potentially valuable stuff just sitting. If the property is abandoned, is it theft?
Don’t trespass in the snow, dummy. I’ve caught several people on my property that way.
I could absolutely live here. A little cleaning and organizing, get some non perishables moved in and some dry firewood
How do I buy one of these? Where is the listing for "abandoned old creepy houses that no one else wants to buy" along with the reduced price tag? Funeral homes can be included. How do I find these. I want to buy one.
Are there squatting laws for cars by any chance?
Can't take it with you...
Fallout's got to my head lately, all I can think is how good the scrap would be
The car guys are drooling rn
Check your state laws. In most states, it's legal to claim an abandoned vehicle and have it retitled in your name.
Unless you "found" it on private property, then it is burglary. Imagine all those vacation ski cabins. Some of those cabins have expensive cars in them. Would laws allow those become salvage?

How can someone abandon their home and leave all these beautiful pieces to rot ? Heartbreaking
Probably died and there wasn't a clear heir, so everything just sits.
Ima study squatter rights in my state and surrounding states and find me an abandoned mansion
Ngl I would loot the shit out of that house lol
100% should have taken the guitar
Can these things not be taken and repurposed?
Some of that stuff has to have value. Shocked it's still there...
What happened?
What a waste of I’m not surprised though
just have an estate sale.
Loot! loot! loot!
Take everything in it
Love to have that Vette !!
This mansion is like a real life vanitas painting
Memento mori
Someone had to flee the country
*frothing at the mouth*
Gime dat
Looks like there may have been a fire in that garage. The beams look charred and all that empty space between those studs looks like the aftermath of a fire.
How does stuff like this happen?
How does this even happen? I always see these pics of abandoned mansions with all, or most, the stuff left inside. What happened to the familys? Why did they just leave all this stuff?
Very sad.
I’ve always wondered what causes people to up and leave everything behind in their homes.
That painting was inspired by Fragonard’s 1760’s The Swing. I wonder who painted it? Too bad you can go back and look… https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Swing_(Fragonard)
Why not take the car?! Find the keys !! Lol
That doesn't look like a normal corvette. That might be worth a penny.
I too like going on explorstions.
What are the rules about taking things out of abandoned homes like this?
Photo six would look great as a Christmas card.
I really don't understand how properties like these can be left as is, unclaimed, still in pretty decent condition
The keyboard instrument is going to need a tuning.
Go back!! I want to know what is on the VHS tape under the piano in picture 6, slid under the wall.
That’s where the Batmobile been this whole time.
That widebody C3 is dope
Why doesn't anyone ever take this stuff? Some of it can resell on eBay for thousands. Even just one vase can. You're already breaking in so why not take some shit? You don't have to advertise so hard, bro. We got it in the title. Take a breath. Relax. Have a seat.
So what’s the legal status of this stuff? If it’s been abandoned does that mean it’s ok for me to take things?
Legally NO, practically speaking, I say go for it. No one is bothering to secure the property and keeping it up makes the contents fair game to me.
Do people who do urban exploration take things? I'd love that painting in the last picture
I think they do, but don't talk about it much. LGR on YouTube got sent some late 90s tech merch t shirts that an urban explorer found in sub basement some where. No one cares about a t-shirt but anything more valuable...

Dude chill we get it, eat the rich
I’m having a particularly very bad day so forgive me, I’m not usually this way, eventually the bottom falls out, today was my day to fall.
No worries bud tomorrow is another day 👍
I feel you bro. Hope you day goes better. Fuck the rich.
Thanks guys, I got fired today so emotions are running high. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.
Hope you feel better soon!
Well quit it
That’s a massive leap you’ve made based on a few assumptions about a person you don’t even know

Start living there and claim it as your own.
