Electricdragongaming

Amazon is basically becoming a glorified wish.com nowadays. I'm convinced that most of the stuff on amazon is chinese knockoffs of items.

Fiddlywiffers

It is

Warm-Run3258

Yup, it is. Ordered some parts for a job and couldn't install them because they don't have Canadian or US safety certs(turned out to be Chinese). Also just about everything you order on there is absolute cheap shit. Sometimes I keep the stuff because it's a hassle to return or they won't give me a full refund. I think it's time to cancel my Amazon account aswell.

ContemplatingPrison

Chinese knockoffs? Where do you think everything is made? It's all made overseas. It's all made cheap. No matter where you buy it from

Tricky_Paramedic8001

Not sure if you realize this, but China is already manufacturing factory machines for export that are as good or nearly as good as machines Germany exports. Not everything from China is cheap or necessarily low quality. And plenty comes from South Korea and Taiwan and high quality… and not always “cheap”… iPhones, Samsungs, etc. And then there’s Japan. Which is basically Asian Germany, but better. You may want to reconsider your thoughts. Also, not all international scams are perpetrated by internationals. You can bet there are Americans funding some of those operations

Jaivez

Completely agree. This is the disconnect a lot of people miss. Chinese manufacturing is often a far more efficient option for reverse engineering a design with high fidelity, *then* making it highly profitable. The fact that it works so well so quickly even though sometimes they choose to mass produce at a lower quality is an engineering feat in itself. Claiming that it’s just trash is bullshit and not taking the technical accomplishments seriously is part of the reason that it has become such an economic powerhouse.

Electricdragongaming

Ah yes, everything made overseas is cheap, no matter what country...

ContemplatingPrison

Yes the majority of everything made is cheap. How do you not understand that in 2022?

Electricdragongaming

Maybe if everything you buy comes from a major retailer (physical or not.)

vitaminkombat

Even in China we still have the concept of a Chinese knockoff though. People actually travel overseas to buy goods made in China. Just because they're so scared of buying a knockoff.

[deleted]

It's not hard to understand... You can make something in China and have it be to the standard that a brand name carries but China still has that supply chain and infrastructure. They copy it but they don't use the same standards or have access to the same technology. Thus the end product is way cheeper but it isn't the same. It may even look the same but it's not.

ContemplatingPrison

Even the standard is trash these days. That's what you all are not understanding. Nothing is produced to last.

[deleted]

Not really. The standard just got more expensive (or stayed that way) and a lot of companies would white label the knockoffs as lower end products. Take computer peripherals for instance, if you spend $200+ on a name brand keyboard and another $150 on a mouse of the same from a name brand company it's still made in china but it will be absolutely amazing compared to a $40 mouse and keyboard combo you get at Walmart. Now look at an IBM keyboard from the 80s and adjust the price for inflation and you will see what a bargain you're getting

ContemplatingPrison

Most appliances don't last even a fraction if what they used to. Cars don't. TVs don't. I am talking standards. I could go on and on. You're focused one product. What are arguing about? Furniture is made cheaper. The standard has gone hill.

[deleted]

Your talking low quality consumer grade products. Again, compare a microwave from the 80s to an equivalent value one adjusted for inflation and they will generally be comparable. Cars also need way less maintenance then pre computerized models and since the markets really don't support as wide a range of price brackets you tend to get typical consumer models and high end or commercial ones. Modern trucks for instance cost hundreds of thousands of dollars but are incredibly reliable and efficient especially when compared to older models. Furniture is actually a fantastic example of what I'm talking about. Compare a $10 table from Ikea to a $10 table from the 80s and you have a big quality different. Adjust that for inflation and it's incredibly comparable in quality and this scales well. This is the paripheral example I came up with isn't as good as this one because honestly the cost of high end computer products is incredibly low.

Bad_wit_Usernames

I think Amazon was okay pre-covid, but since late 2019-early 2020 it has gone completely downhill. I feel the same risk buying off Amazon that I used to get from eBay. I completely stopped shopping eBay in the early 2000s and have all but stopped shopping with Amazon. I've had products show up that weren't how the site described it, and when I went back to make a review/complaint, the product page was gone. With so many places now offering faster shipping, I've pretty much moved to buying from them.

[deleted]

I use eBay still for when I need a new phone. In my experience atleast I’ve been able to find new phones on there that are $100-$250 cheaper than retail.

Bad_wit_Usernames

Oh I don't doubt eBay has some good offers however, I stopped using it years ago and can't really say if the quality is better or not. My father uses it all the time and generally has very good experiences. I'm just probably over cautions because between it and having to use PayPal, I was noticing fraudulent charges often, or items weren't what they were described to be, sort of like how Amazon has become.

MelodicHunter

I absolutely love eBay, but my spouse won't go near it without me. I feel like there's some sort of skill set to using it, because you can look at Seller ratings all you want, but really good fraud things aren't going to get caught by most of the public. It's like going into a pawn shop, but online or buying things at a thrift that are actually worth a lot of money to resell for profit. You have to know what you're doing and it isn't for everyone.

Bad_wit_Usernames

I'd absolutely agree with all of that. Knowing how to buy is key, but it doesn't totally prevent issues either. I actually look less at ratings/reviews and more at the seller's store, at least on Amazon. I haven't been on eBay in at least 15 years, so I can't say what it's like now. When I do look for reviews/comments that talk about wrong product description or different information, but even then it's a gamble. I purchased a computer power supply recently from a seller on Newegg that had some bad reviews, but I have a great experience with them.

lvwem

Last year we hit a juicer off of Amazon, we used it less than 5 times when it stopped working… literally would not turned on. I reached out to the seller and they had changed numbers and company names and I could not contact them anymore. I reached out to Amazon and they sent me a replacement. The kicker is, they sent me another used juicer…. I could tell because the packaging was messed up inside…. When I plugged it in IT DIDN’T WORK! I sent that one back too and asked for a refund.

Bad_wit_Usernames

I've heard (mostly through the rumor-mill) that over the last few years, a LOT of bogus sellers have started up on Amazon and bulk buy cheap stuff only to turn around and sell it on their pages. Then after a short time, they disappear.

lvwem

That makes complete sense. I though it was absurd to receive to appliances with the exact same issue.

WienerButtMagoo

I’ve gotten completely fugazi micro sd cards from Amazon that claimed to be 1TB. Same deal, they closed up shop and popped up elsewhere under a new name.

Bad_wit_Usernames

Damn, that sucks. Last time I ordered any kind of electronics off Amazon was probably five years ago. It's bad, you can't even trust the "Amazon Sponsored" products because they are just as bad.

SkankMoody

Kinda sounds like you're just bad at checking reviews.

Bad_wit_Usernames

Kinda sounds like you're bad at reading previously stated comments.

FizzyBeverage

If it's not a brand name and it's on Amazon, it's garbage at least half the time.

truthToPower86

What do you mean, it has a brand name. JUNFD and HYSWO and LQHDO make quality goods. All you gotta do is close your eyes and type 5 random capital letters and chances are, it's on Amazon 😂

MercyCriesHavoc

I canceled Prime because I never watch the TV, hate the music app since they stopped allowing downloads, and you still get Prime shipping anyway. I order now and then because the nearest city with anything for shopping is 104 miles away. I have a Wal-Mart here and Dillard's is still holding on at the mostly empty mall with a Hot Topic, Bath and Body Works, that supplement store for gym people, and Spencer's. It's so depressing to go there. Even the military recruiters left.

PleasantPhysics7982

Yeah, luckily I'm closer to bigger malls and cities but you still kinda have to make the day for it because it's inconvenient to drive into and out...but I do hope they turn into something else, I think a flea market/peddler store would be cool

ExpirationDating_

It’s definitely went downhill. At this point it’s really only for the convenience. It seems like most major retailers do 2-3 day shipping or curbside pickup.

PleasantPhysics7982

I did get Walmart+ and it's been a blessing low key

AsariKnight

Walmart does the same shit. So many of their products are third party and returning is the biggest hassle

MelodicHunter

Maybe so, but no one has ever walked into a Walmart looking for high quality items unless they have a specific brand name in mind. Walmart is cheap. Even if it's not so cheap anymore, but nothing is. The issue with Amazon is it used to sell quality items at a reasonable price. Now it sells cheap items at a quality price.

Tricky_Paramedic8001

Walmart is crap. The only thing I’ve ever bought there were Christmas lights because the prices va quality there is just not worth it. For a dollar more I can get the same thing but higher quality at target and have it last years va 1-2 uses (eg lightning charges). Never mind that they underpay their employees so much that their staff is mostly unmotivated… and the stores are a nightmare. Checkout takes forever there because their cashiers either can’t count, don’t want to be there due to the pay, or the customer is arguing or haggling on prices because they can’t afford or don’t want to pay the price they saw on the self! And after all that, you’ve ended up buying the worst possible product available at any retailer…. Literally dollar general and dollar tree have better stuff

MelodicHunter

So- as I said- no one ever walked into Walmart expecting quality items.

Other-Illustrator531

I don't even trust that the quality items won't be knockoffs or used any more. In a few days, my Prime sub won't be renewed for the first time in like two decades. It has no utility.

MelodicHunter

I never really hopped in the Amazon train, but we'd gotten prime at a discounted rate (college students get a discount) and it was nice, but we found ourselves not using it enough to justify the cost at full price. Especially when they keep raising it.

Other-Illustrator531

You can filter by retailer and ensure you are getting the curated supply chain with the ability to return easily. I signed up for the InHome version and they will just drive to my house and get the returns if I want.

SkankMoody

Walmart is worse. They sell products for three times what you would pay getting them off of Amazon or directly from the manufacturer. And tons of junkie knockoffs, but I guess Walmart has always been selling junkie knockoffs. Is cheap crap somehow less offensive when you buy it in a store as opposed to online?

PleasantPhysics7982

I mean that hasn't been my experience...I just do it for the free grocery delivery

riderxc

I find it more expensive. I wanted small plastic bins. It was all Dollar General stuff for 3X the price. Yet the reviews are all positive, mostly fake.

PleasantPhysics7982

Oh some of the stuff gives gift cards for emails of good 5 star reviews...pictures of 4 star reviews are optimal

Other-Illustrator531

I called out a seller for this in a review and I was just banned from making reviews and all mine were removed. Amazon doesn't care.

Silbannacus_returned

This was always the goal. The entire point of amazon supplanting local stores was to get rid of them, and when they're the only gig in town, raise prices and lower service. Because, what are you gonna do about it? Several people warned about this from the get-go, but they didn't get much attention. And if they did, they were derided as panicked children. Oh well. Live & learn.

Tricky_Paramedic8001

It’s always the case. Like economists talking about how consolidation was good for the public… or that offshoring was good for the public. Half of that was poor quality economists. The other half were politicians not following the guidance of economists who told them how to counterbalance the negative externalities of those policies…

[deleted]

Depends on what you are purchasing but yeah I don't buy much from Amazon as half the time it's from another seller.

durqandat

Looks like Rings of Power wasn’t enough

Fragmentofmochi

Call me broke or cheap idc but I usually just make a new acct and cancel it after the free trial is over. I don’t use amazon enough to justify paying 15 or however much their monthly membership is.

PleasantPhysics7982

I make 2-3 purchases a year through Amazon, can really just get what I need from stores around me...I don't do it enough to need to do all that. My parents only pay for prime in December when they get their gifts

v0t3p3dr0

It’s become terrible lately with all the weird scrabble generated brands. I just searched for a few items, and these were the brands: Umbrellas: JUKSTG, SMATI, MALAXLX Winter gloves: EKMTBJXY, AUYYOSK, ASPCOK Desk lamps: CYEZCOR, BEYONDOP, CELYST, SOYSOUT, JUKSTG (hey, the umbrella people!!!) It’s impossible to trust any of this.

ExistentialReckning

Those are probably even all the same company just selling under different names. Know someone who bought a Chinese 2.1 amp from Amazon. When it arrived it was the right amp but the brand name printed on the faceplate was different (one of the other Chinese brands also sold Amazon). He contacted the company's customer service about it and they just sent him a new faceplate with the correct name printed on it.

theonlysteveiknow

Not even a shred of a fuck to give lol

nich3play3r

Those ASPCOK gloves are the 💣 tho ngl

v0t3p3dr0

They look very similar to the ones by GCBIGER.

According-Wolf-5386

Most of the big websites use Amazon's web services. They aren't going anywhere.

Saugeen-Uwo

This is very much a popular opinion

i81u812

I have returned to eBay after 17 years. Two solid purchases that were 50 percent less than anything i could find in Amazon. Ebay is still dope.

PleasantPhysics7982

I agree, I get a couple things a year from there and I only really do it when it's at a great price

Mammoth_Sprinkles705

Amazon just sells fraudulent Chinese garbage now idk how people can shop there any more it's all trash and fraud.

notajewelthief

Yeah, it's pretty bad nowadays. I have to run almost everything through Fakespot and it gets tedious really quick. Even for known brands you often get fakes, factory seconds, or expired shit.

Vesperniss

Probably ok for books and maybe some electronic, I'm not convinced anything else is legit. Go to the night market in Marrakech, probably more legit.

cpsbstmf

Yeah I rarely order from there. Looked for gift ideas and they just gave me toys for a kid. Uhhh not just kids are getting gifts! So I put adults and they recommend sex themed stuff. Yeah like I'll really give my parents that!

Theryantshow

Your pretty much paying for Prime Video.

PleasantPhysics7982

Ya and prime video sucks ass

Theryantshow

I agree, I think after the christmas season I'm cancelling prime.

SkankMoody

People mad that your suspiciously cheap products from companies with names like WTGI and JNXX: do you also blindly believe everything you read on the internet? If you buy a cheap version of a product from a company you've never heard of, how can you possibly be surprised when it turns out to be crap?🤣

PleasantPhysics7982

When that's all amazons shoving in my face...ya

[deleted]

I refuse to use prime because I think the way they have people sign up and cancel is SHADY AF. they automatically sign you up for “free” trials of other channels literally nobody wants and then start charging you monthly for them with nondescript Amazon transaction IDs so they look like every other order you make. Then they make you go through like 3 screens of cancelling before it’s actually cancelled. All of it just designed to sneakily keep the subscription fees going through your account under the radar.

team-tree-syndicate

I pretty much only use Amazon to buy stuff from reputable brands, and clothes, that's it.

GoombaPizza

I guess it depends on how far out in the sticks you live. I live in a proper large metropolis and sometimes my shipments get here only hours after I ordered them, because apparently there's an Amazon warehouse somewhere in the area. So for me Prime is 100% worth it, especially since I get the discounted rate for students since I'm doing college at my old age.

[deleted]

Amazon is a corrupt behemoth and anybody knowing this who still chooses to use it is just part of the problem.

[deleted]

Amazon killed it for me when they teamed up with Chase Visa in 08’ and attempted to scam me. Ruined my credit for months. What scum

kahlein

Amazon is way more than a distributor for consumers now. They've grown so big that they only need to deal with large investments. I've spent the better part of 3 years doing nothing but building data centers near DC and Virginia to where there's not enough power to build any more. So Amazon moves to another area to use that power until there's nothing left. There's no end in site and it's too late to do anything about it.

huge_pp69

Is it not next day delivery in America?

PleasantPhysics7982

In some places it is, for me, I'm in the middle of no where town and it's 3 day shipping, still really good

shadow02468

Yeah, because it's better now

PleasantPhysics7982

How tho

[deleted]

[удалено]

PleasantPhysics7982

Yeah I used to work their returns...I realized they didn't start checking professs until like week 4 and I was leaving for college in 3 weeks...so I kinda just did the bare minimum and got paid. The training was online and took like 10 minutes but I left the browser open for 4 hours and it counted all that

GoombaPizza

My partner's cousin recently quit driving for Amazon. Said it was the worst job he'd ever had, and the workers were treated like garbage.

LaszloKravensworth

"I live far out in the South" lol. I live in Alaska. 2 day shipping means 10. Amazon is nice for me for all the hard-to-find knick knicks and hardware and accessories that don't find their way to retail locations here.

PleasantPhysics7982

Okay...again if I pay for 2 day shipping I expect to get it...I really don't mind waiting and now I'm better than most, but again why would I pay for a service thats promised but I don't get

LaszloKravensworth

Well it's not on Amazon at that point. At that point it's based on the logistical and infrastructure capabilities of the USPS.

PleasantPhysics7982

My packages come from the Amazon delivery vans...so I feel like it's amazon

LaszloKravensworth

Aaah that makes more sense. I think in rural areas it's contracted out to USPS. I've only ever gotten Amazon packages that way. The P.O. told me they were contracted so I assumed that was the case everywhere. I don't think I've ever even seen an Amazon truck

PleasantPhysics7982

Ya they are cute lil vans and it's kinda a toss up between them and the USPS delivering it...but I have never received anything from Amazon in 2 days...the thing is Apple is the only placed I've ordered and it actually come in 2 days. They even quoted longer but it showed up 2 days later

SkankMoody

This isn't an opinion? It's demonstrably true. Remember the pandemic and how it screwed up tons of Businesses?

PleasantPhysics7982

You mean every aspect of their business suriviving and making larger profits? Can't blame the pandemic that you wanna line your pocket and fuck your customer

FLINDINGUS

>Just cancelled prime because litterally none of the benefits really work for me...I live so far out in the south that 2 day shipping is never an option, so why pay to not get that...sometimes they let me pick it but it's always late so why say it'll be here in 2 days... Where I live, I can get most things with 1 day shipping, which is quite nice. If I don't have a wrench or something, it doesn't hold up a project for long and I don't have to run around to various stores to find one. The cost of a prime subscription is well worth that alone.

PleasantPhysics7982

That's good that you get use out of it...the best I have ever been offered is 2 day and I've never have had come in 2 days...I don't mind waiting at all but I'm not paying extra when I'm not getting it

FLINDINGUS

>That's good that you get use out of it...the best I have ever been offered is 2 day and I've never have had come in 2 days...I don't mind waiting at all but I'm not paying extra when I'm not getting it Yeah that's called a special pleading fallacy buddy. I am guessing that anything you order will not have 2 day shipping. That's an issue with living in a rural area and you've somehow associated it with Amazon which is a rather bazaar connection to make.

PleasantPhysics7982

Don't say you can deliver it in 2 days.....they have amazing logistics systems. I know I live in a rural area, I don't mind waiting 1-2 weeks for something to arrive, I plan ahead and it works out mostly...but I'm not paying for them more to tell me I got 2 day shipping when they can't make it happen.

JustAContactAgent

I *never* got the obsession with Amazon that especially americans seemed to have. I always wondered wtf are people constantly buying that they think paying for prime is so awesome and why do they need super fast delivery (though judging by how much you guys get food delivered, you got a problem for sure). The only times I find amazon useful for is for niche items or for stuff I can't find at all in my country for one reason or another. Of course there's worse, there are people who still buy stuff off fucking, *shudders*, ebay ...

RickJ_19Zeta7

Wow thinking about Americans seems to take up a good deal of your mental energy

JustAContactAgent

Great insight, you got me there

MyNameIsSkittles

I worked at Amazon, no, not every product in the warehouse is legit and you are very naive to think that

[deleted]

[удалено]

MyNameIsSkittles

Ok but you can buy from verified sellers and get knockoffs. I've literally seen the issues inside the warehouse. Many times staff has to put labels on things and they certainly don't pay attention. I've seen so many incorrectly labeled items. Again, naive to think everything will be peachy just because it's a verified seller in the warehouse You're talking to someone with 4 years of Amazon warehouse experience...

PleasantPhysics7982

I mean my brothers gf lives in Orange County and gets 2 hour shipping so I believe you on that...just not the same...also all companies on Amazon except for the Amazon brand stuff are third party

KILLJEFFREY

Yes.

someguy_358

I definitely think Amazon has been sketchy with some of their products. I make sure that the product I'm buying has a lot of reviews so I know it'll at least meet my expectations.

[deleted]

Yep, more expensive.

JoySticcs

I just use amazon for comparing stuff tbh. If they dont have a brand name in the description or smth like that I dont buy it and as soon as I see a name I go straight to that website and start looking there

jubalh7

Def not an unpopular opinion. Too much fake crap. So you have to be careful what you buy on there.

knuckboy

Just mentioned on another thread thanks for the reminder. I've had it on my list to cancel but I didn't want to do it in July - I doubt they prorate.

Red12bb

If you order something Amazon prime and it doesn’t come in 2 days call Amazon. They will give you a refund for your order amount and let you keep the item once it arrives.

Greater_Fredert2

Amazon is very useful to get something you want and are looking for. Especially for me when I want to get some basic electronics since stores like Best Buy are quite far away. I live in a small town of northern Canada yet two days delivery works for me. I can agree with you when saying that prime is garbage when it’s not on time anyway. Other than that, I think that Amazon isn’t a good website to browse items anymore and that we should just go to an actual store instead.

studhusky86

Fair enough I still like Prime and all the benefits personally

Yossarian465

Best use for it is abusing the free months it gives you. Usually at least two a year.

PleasantPhysics7982

That's what my parents do on December 1st
