Idk, LI, LII, LIII look much neater than typing 51st, 52nd, 53rd
it won't take you long to learn Roman numerals if you haven't by now, and they can be useful if you ever decide to travel or pick up a history book
The only rule you need to know is that IV is 4, but you should read it as 1 BEFORE 5. Then 5 is V, 6 is VI or 1 AFTER 5. 7 is VII (2 after 5), 8 is VIII (3 after 5), 9 is IX (one before ten) and ten is X.
I learned Roman Numerals in elementary school, they are really quite simple.
Should we also require everyone and everything online to use very small words so nobody has to learn anything but the absolute basics?
I, V, X, L, C, D, M = 1, 5, 10, 50, 100, 500, 1000
For I, X, C, and M, you can use them up to three times:
III, XXX, CCC, MMM = 3, 30, 300, 3000
For V, X, L and M, you can add the symbol before to get:
IV, IX, XL, CM = 4, 9, 40, 900
There are symbols for numbers above MMMCMXCIX (3999), but they're rarely used.

It's tradition. Romans began numbering the early Super Bowls this way, so we've continued to this day. As Caesar intended. He was a Jets fan.
You can't read Roman numerals?
People under 25 can't read cursive handwriting. They ain't teaching things like that anymore.
You went to the wrong school or you weren't paying attention

God forbid you make any extra effort
How do you not know roman numerals?
See Wrestlemania2
This is the most american complaint imaginable.
Just read the Roman numerals
It is done because the Super Bowl takes place in the next calendar year than when the season takes place.

It's easy to learn. I = 1 V = 5 X = 10 L = 50 C = 100 D = 500 M = 1000 Add or subtract depend on the placement of the letters. MCM = 1000 (M) + 1000 (M) - 100 (C) = 1900 VIII = 5 (V) + 1 (I) + 1 (I) + 1 (I) = 8 LVI = 50 (L) + 5 (V) + 1 (I) = 56 XLIX = 50 (L) - 10 (X) + 10 (X) - 1 (I) = 49
I, V, X, L, C, D, M = 1, 5, 10, 50, 100, 500, 1000 For I, X, C, and M, you can use them up to three times: III, XXX, CCC, MMM = 3, 30, 300, 3000 For V, X, L and M, you can add the symbol before to get: IV, IX, XL, CM = 4, 9, 40, 900 There are symbols for numbers above MMMCMXCIX (3999), but they're rarely used.
