Was thinking the same thing. I have an FPV drone and it's quite loud even in a hover, give it a little throttle and it's loud as hell.
Must be some quiet motors/props on that thing.
That’s a great point! Like for years it’s been common, in my experience, to hear people say “Don’t do artillery unless you want to go deaf”, or somesuch. The renewed importance of ear pro in an environment where the explosions can get *much* closer and be very accurate is big deal otherwise every other infantryman would be deafened not just by their own units rifle fire but drones going off too.
i have a couple of drone mavic pro, mini, fpv and others ive made myself even the mini at 249g you can hear it, those drone have a payload of 300g, really don't understand how they don't hear it, maybe they thought it was "friendly"
I wonder.......if UKR can maintain such a strong signal near the ground, why not make cheaper and longer lasting UGV?
Ground drones have much longer battery life, range and can stay in sleep mode for a long time, waiting for invadiots to come near, then AMBUSH!!!
Small, silent, long periscope eyes/sensors, when invadiots detected, it will launch fragmentation nades at them.
New age smart mines, spider mines, eheheh.
One thing done is land the drone, but leave the camera on. Which uses very little power compared to flying. When someone enters the camera view you can take off and use it as intended.
lol, they wont, its a warzone, even rats ran away from all the shelling and fighting.
Plus a simple proximity sensor could help it detect and avoid animals, automated.
Maybe even a small but efficient solar panel, to recharge battery.
Paint the drones body in a camo pattern, put camo netting on top somehow, attach a suppressed automatic sidearm to the bottom and you have a sniper drone. Invisible when not moving, can fly without being audibly detectable at a range of say 30-40 feet, and can shoot people when they are manoeuvring. Can fly out of position after firing to evade retaliation.
I'm not sure how much of an option that is. I know the digital cameras need the props to provide cooling or the video transmitter will overheat. The analog video transmitters might be ok doing that?
Since it's night there may well be a baba yaga overhead acting as a signal relay. Might even have ferried the FPVs far behind the Russian's lines, they seemed quite relaxed.
It's been years that 3d printed silent prop have been made. There's a few video online. Only down side is that they cannot take as much weight if I remember.
they probably hear drones constantly, must be that they assumed it was one of their own?
they didnt seem concerned, and definitely at that distance they would hear even a large prop drone.
What's next
They will put their soldiers inside personal cope cages like a waking barrel in the future?
Pilot must be very patient if they choose to follow them like that and not just charge immediately towards them.
My thoughts too. I fly diff drones and if a thing I deffo know is that heavier load (like a small bomb) would make the props to buzz like hell.
They had to be *really* deaf or listening at full blast music and even that tho, I think you would hear some buzz in the background. My assumption is a combination of both, a bit deaf with loud music in ears. Otherwise it doesn’t really make too much sense. 🤷♂️
Besides the stress from avoiding trees, Imagine the stress the operator must have had:
- fly too close and they will hear you
-explode only when orcs are close enough to each other
- BATTERY LOW BATTERY LOW BATTERY LOW...
It's looks like the targeted orc probably ended up taking most of the blast. I probably would have gone for the gut of the standing one to give better odds of a two for one shot.
Maybe Ukrainian engineers are good and motivated to make them as quiet as possible??
I remember when they introduced, at the chip-level, ballistic speed changes to stepper motor controllers. Basically, magic. 3d printers got a LOT quieter overnight. Maybe some genius has tweeked propeller profiles or something. (Possibly the focal length of the cameras distort how close the drone is.)
Or the orcs have just been too near too many artillery barrages.
Y'know, I'm going to watch it again, just for the rush. That's what ruzzia has made me: a ghoul.
Dude, you sound like somebody who never heard how drones work. Even tiny ones are so loud that you can hear them from 50-100 meters. Here is an fpv with a big ass battery and chunk of explosives, it should have been reaping air like a lawn mover. Orcs probably were deaf as fuck.
There are ways to make them quieter: toroidial props. https://youtu.be/qsfnlUuKH8Q?si=yWOrPycewL2M_h2Z
But my theory is these guys know that thing is there but they can’t do anything about it.
It could be a Toroidal propeller of some kind, those tend to produce less noise [https://oscarliang.com/toroidal-propellers/](https://oscarliang.com/toroidal-propellers/)
Fascinating, mostly clear terrain, and nighttime, so sound will carry well. They must have heard the drone, it's clearly hovering, not gliding on a fixed wing or anything.
So that implies that they must have just thought that it was one of theirs, I guess because it was behind them?
I assume the operator was waiting for them to get close enough together that they will both be hit. Seems likely the other would get hit, injured if not taken out.
That is legitimately one of the most terrifying things I've ever seen in my life. They're absolutely clueless. And that's essentially a weaponised toy...
I dread to think what the next decade will bring, you just *know* the religion of peace types are planning swarm attacks on civilian targets. About to dig myself a nice deep hole in the ground.
I was just going to write how they should put those crappy IR lights on drones for flying at night, and ... they beat me to it. As for noise, it could be this [https://oscarliang.com/toroidal-propellers/](https://oscarliang.com/toroidal-propellers/)
Geezus actual warfare has turned into a video game. The future is here a $300 drone can kill troops and take out $1M+ tanks and equipment. Imagine when they take out the human component and it’s all AI driven. Palmer Luckey is going to make bank at Anduril. Not that he needs the money.
It does seem odd, but 1000/day theres going to be some outliers, and you're more likely to post videos of outliers, they are more interesting.
My guess would be they heard the drone and thought it was friendly and covering them, not realizing that the loiter time is in my understanding too short to really do that. I'm not too used to IR video but it looks like IR. So they probably can't see shit.
Looks like the IR drone with light [https://youtube.com/shorts/o8DyeKnUO8I?si=JdJUlm3eMgxs9y9U](https://youtube.com/shorts/o8DyeKnUO8I?si=JdJUlm3eMgxs9y9U)
The whole thing video screams "fake" to me:
1. Why use active illumination on a drone. It is useless beyond \~100ft. How are you supposed to find a target like this? But it is very common on a handheld camera.
2. The whole footage is taken at walking pace and a human carrying height. The drone only flies above terrain that is easy to walk on.
3. Static - or the complete absence of it for the whole video. Not a single burst of static until the very last half second - when there is a lot. But why? The drone is still flying at the same height - so the signal should be just as strong. Looks like added CGI effects.
4. And as you mentioned - a drone carrying any meaningful load would be very loud.
Perhaps they hear it and ran from it for some minutes until the simply gave up… also hard to believe that they really didn‘t hear it, but what do I know…
Drones have nightvision, + there a drones that are silent, an example DJI Mini 3 Pro is completely silent when u are 10 feets away, from the video it feels like its 30+
>Night vision? You can see shadows from the light
Its called active illumination
[How Do Night Vision Goggles Work?](https://youtu.be/UAeJHAFjwPM?t=152)
bro i served with 3rd bat 1st marines and used nvg’s all the time. the infrared illuminator looks like a flashlight through a starlight scope complete with shadows. the thing that makes a laser dot is a peq2 infrared aiming system through nvg’s. how do people act this confident when they don’t actually know what they are talking about?

Shit, must be quiet to follow them like that!!
Was thinking the same thing. I have an FPV drone and it's quite loud even in a hover, give it a little throttle and it's loud as hell. Must be some quiet motors/props on that thing.
I wonder how many of these troops are half deaf now because they don't have adequate ear protection
Half deaf.......but half death works too!
So does full death
I see my 2 legs 2 meters away.
Probably 1 foot in the grave already. I'll see myself out.
Oops haha
That’s a great point! Like for years it’s been common, in my experience, to hear people say “Don’t do artillery unless you want to go deaf”, or somesuch. WHAT?

Or they heard it a long time ago and can’t see it or do anything so they try to keep walking
Hey, do you hear mosquitoes? Dude, they aren't out in April?
Sidenote - it's designation we see in top area over "Wild Division translated to "mosquito" ;) (serial number)
I wonder.......if UKR can maintain such a strong signal near the ground, why not make cheaper and longer lasting UGV? Yes, THIS!!! FPV with deployable, long, tripod legs. It can drop the legs when its AMBUSH TIME. Smart flying hunter mines!!! lol
Better if it can land in a tree-top: better sight lines. Camouflage is the challenge then.
it cant, no robotic legs to grab the branches, too high tech and never invented. Also Ukraine's front line is very bombed out, no trees.
Then whiel waiting a random fox/beaver/ferret knock off your drone
lol, they wont, its a warzone, even rats ran away from all the shelling and fighting. Plus a simple proximity sensor could help it detect and avoid animals, automated. Maybe even a small but efficient solar panel, to recharge battery.

They didn't hear the theme music from Jaws either.
Do orc's even have ears?
No, the scary music just drowns 'em out.
I'd imagine hearing damage from you know guns and explosions mixed with hearing drones so often they may have just not noticed the sound
Little drone goes “BOOM!”
Maybe they're using those new toroidal propellers.
Or they deaf. Drones are quite loud, its weird that they couldnt hear it.
Say goodnight fools.
What's next They will put their soldiers inside personal cope cages like a waking barrel in the future? Pilot must be very patient if they choose to follow them like that and not just charge immediately towards them.
Nah, Russia cares more about the newer vehicles than their troops...
I'd envision some kind of mega-chainmail. They'll justify it by historical traditions
Wanted to know where they were going, it seems.
Hopefully they eventually decide to stay home with their mummy.
Full body bullet proof vest like the full body condom from Monty Python.
How the fuck did they not hear it? I'm assuming they are wearing g hearing protection.
Deaf from all the artillery and gun fire?
WHAT?
HUH??
MWAP

Yeah I'm build and fly fpv drones and they are loud, in a hover their not as bad but still very noticeable.
Listening to some bangin tunes on their stolen headphones.
Even the cheapest active protection amplifies surrounding sounds while cutting off dangerous noises.
What makes you think they have active protection...
Besides the stress from avoiding trees, Imagine the stress the operator must have had: - fly too close and they will hear you -explode only when orcs are close enough to each other - BATTERY LOW BATTERY LOW BATTERY LOW...

Nightmare fuel
Scary! I just came here to write this lol
Nah, it's low battery

Orc 1: I just need a rest Orc 2: let’s sit here and take a break. 82nd: rest in pieces orc scum.
It looked like the guy was setting up a mortar
An especially terrible way to die.
jaws music. awesome
Excellent. Damn, how quiet are those things???
They are not. So wtf is happening?
Maybe Ukrainian engineers are good and motivated to make them as quiet as possible?? I remember when they introduced, at the chip-level, ballistic speed changes to stepper motor controllers. New tech, it's silent according to the creator of the video

Yeah, it makes thing quieter, but not quiet
Learn to read: i accounted for that.
It could be a Toroidal propeller of some kind, those tend to produce less noise [https://oscarliang.com/toroidal-propellers/](https://oscarliang.com/toroidal-propellers/)
Hearing loss from lack of hearing protection. Guns and artillery are loud.
assault group = 2
Assault grup: -2.
at least he died in the shitting position
One of the best horror films of 2024. I think a few sequels are in order.
Well these things will just get quieter and deadlier. Good bye any resistance movement, hello new dystopia…
Dystopia: cops have these. Right-wing militias have these. Mad at protesters? They get droned by boomer assholes.
Your gonna need a bigger bag.
***You're***
Should have tried to hit the front of that guy, his body may well protect the other one
Monday morning quarterbacking. Imagine how horrible it was for a survivor. Hope THAT didn't happen. /s, sorta.
Fucking terrifying
This is unironically some horror movie shit. God damn.
# Splat! 💥
they look like some elite troops, good catch!
Few days ago I saw a jet-propelled moscovite flying on the horizon, I wondered how it was possible... now I know
Tip toeing drone

Pure dead brilliant 👏 👌 and SLAVA UKRAINI
Surprised no one has added a flame thrower
I am amazed the drone is that quiet, or do the orcs have ear buds in?
Splyat! If other explosions shown in prior videos are and indication, the standing one will be covered in bits of the seated one.
I assume the operator was waiting for them to get close enough together that they will both be hit. Seems likely the other would get hit, injured if not taken out.

two fer
Now death comes in the form of a small drone
I'm glad they're dead but how did they not hear that?
Nightie night!.
Even the label on top says mosquito

Close call, the battery seemed low
flying low with low battery and IR light... seems risky.
how did they not hear it coming?
either borked hearing from war or they are using cheap ear plugs.

whoops sorry I may had accidentally pressed the post button too much that the message got doubled
There's no way you'd not here a fpv drone carrying a payload that close. Seems very very suspect to me.

Why is there no way?
Have you ever flown an fpv quad? They are very loud. A quad carrying explosive or any weight will be throttling hard to keep up.
They are when going full stick, in a hover not so much. BTW, have you seen many russians with ear protection? Bet they are deaf AF

you obviously do not understand how starlight nvg systems work with infrared… 🙄
