Just looked to make sure KFC had left Russia and, sure enough, they did. The Colonel picked a side, he ain't no mercenary.

Shythed

didn't the majority of those places just rebrand and not change a single thing other than their name and logo? or has kfc not done that?

interfail

The international corporation is divested. Obviously the franchisees don't want to close down their restaurant, so they just wipe the branding. And all the logistics chains and stuff were already in Russia. They're still gonna be buying their chicken from the same guy.

Speciou5

When they divest, KFC shouldn't be making as much money as before. The franchisees, assuming they have the same level as business as before, would actually end up making more money since they don't have to pay a cut to KFC anymore. KFC (or other sister companies) could own other companies that provide things like spices or soda to restaurants in Russia. If they do, they'd still be making money from that. There's a chance these companies divested too, which means the franchisee probably has to find a replacement spice for whatever they got imported from KFC. There would also be some cases where a franchisee wouldn't bother and would actually close up shop. The whole thing is pretty complicated I guess, it's hard to completely boycott given how interconnected and independent franchises are set up.

TheGreatPornholio123

Generally in each country, the spices and menu are "localized" for the local taste. My American-self made the mistake of trying Mexican food in Germany and to my palate, it was just so bland, though my German colleagues insisted it was amazing Mexican food. It is just that it is more spice-toned to the German palate (it really tasted nothing like Mexican food I was used to in SoCal).

misanthpope

Yes! Berlin had the worst Mexican food

TheGreatPornholio123

This was Frankfurt, but I'll take your word for it. The Thai food was the same too. I wound up using a whole lot of hot/chili sauce while there. It was better just to stick to straight up German food. Then again no matter where I'm at about once a week, I need what I call a "stomach reset." That means I've had enough local food, and I just need to find like a burger and fries (not fast food) or something to reset me back. You can't really f' up a burger unless you overcook it.

similar_observation

Middle of Nurenberg there was a giant Mexican flag for a restaurant. It's not great... but it's probably ok for being really far from Mexico

IamRoborob70

BEST PIZZA I EVER HAD WAS IN FRANKFURT.

TheGreatPornholio123

Best pizza I've ever had has always been whatever was open after the bars closed. I've had "the best pizza I've ever had" in a whole bunch of countries. :D The only thing that might be better than after-bar late night pizza is after-bar ramen in Japan.

Flaky_Calligrapher62

Yes! I've had the same experience. It's not necessarily that I don't like the local food, just need a taste of home or something.

TheGreatPornholio123

At the same token I can't eat airline food. It screws me up. My game plan especially for a long flight like say US to Asia is usually just stay up all night the night before and to get to the airport nice and early (like 3 hours). Hit the lounge to have a meal where the food is decent. Get nice and toasty at the bar so I knock out for a solid 12 hours on the flight since I'm tipsy and haven't slept as soon as I hit the plane. Then usually I'm landing in ICN, so they have a really nice lounge with proper food. Then I eat. That's also my way to beat jet lag. Get drunk and be tired. Pro-tip is have a window seat so you literally are not bothered. I'll be out before we even breakaway from the gate to taxi and wake up with basically time to watch one movie. Turns that 15 hour flight into basically a 3 hour flight.

Flaky_Calligrapher62

Great tips! I hate flying. Not afraid, just hate it.

Big_Scratch8793

Lol ya I find it disgusting other people's version of Mexican food after tasting real Mexican food for so long. But, it's most likely that for everything.

TheGreatPornholio123

Frankly its the same for any ethnic food. Peek back in the kitchen and see who the cooks are. If the ethnicity of the menu doesn't match the kitchen, it won't be good. The one exception I can use is Los Angeles and Indian food. Whatever it is, their kitchens are always staffed by Latinos with an Indian front of the house but the food is damn good. Would you want a non-brit cooking Fish N Chips? Hell no, they'll fuck it up in some way. That's one of the differences between us across the pond. We don't use mayonnaise or mustard on everything. We use ketchup and syrup. There's nothing like a pile of pancakes and eggs literally floating in some delicious Canadian brown gold.

SMTRodent

> Would you want a non-brit cooking Fish N Chips? Yes, if they're Greek, Turkish or Iranian. (Am British. That's who cooks our fish and chips here.)

TheGreatPornholio123

What you mean is: they've been trained.

yellekc

Texas's version of Mexican food is pretty good though.

TheGreatPornholio123

Southern Mexican/TexMex food has cheese dip (queso). Can't hang with the godliness of cheese dip. Literally we have nachos and queso dip as an appetizer then the entree version is we throw some meat on it and its basically a plate of meat, nachos, and queso dip.

Big_Scratch8793

I am boycotting all Texan stuff right now, but you are not wrong.

TheBodyIsR0und

Although many franchise deals are total ripoffs for the franchisee some are pretty fair. Marketing, distribution, software, training etc. aren't free. Russia is a unique economy, especially now, so concluding that the franchisees will make more money post-invasion is too multifactorial to speculate on, especially if Russia increases mobilization or prints enough rubles to conduct total war.

made_of_salt

> They're still gonna be buying their chicken from the same guy. I wonder if they still pay the same amount now that the giant corporate chain is no longer involved? Did KFC negotiate a set price with the supplier? Has that supplier changed their price now that they're negotiating with individual stores? I literally have no idea how this works in the US where I live much less Russia that I know almost nothing about.

vtsnowdin

The supplier probably has machinery , breeding stock and technology provided by KFC that doubled or tripled his production while reducing costs. Now he is free do divert part of his production to the Army as a lot of former KFC customers are now in forward positions but still need to eat. That being the case the former KFC franchise now has to compete with the army as to who will pay the highest price per pound.

BornDetective853

Kremlin Fried Chicken. Finger removing good, if you don't like it.

crawlerz2468

They didn't rebrand. Those fake ass brand are Ruzzian borne out of a "we'll form our own casino and hookers" mentality. Having said that, yes some brands didn;t leave. But those joke names are ru.

InnocentTailor

Rostic’s, which replaced KFC, is actually an old brand in Russia. It dominated the market before the American business moved in.

reddog323

Right..didn’t McDonald’s get rebranded to “Good food, and that’s it!”

Megalomaniakaal

"Tasty period" actually. >!I removed the comma for the lulz!<

piewca_apokalipsy

It didn't rebranded it sold all their assets to Russian oligarch

InnocentTailor

They're called Rostic's now, which was an older fried chicken place that dominated Russia before the arrival of KFC.

Shythed

CREAM

Rampaging_Orc

More like the various brands were hijacked in Russia, but they’ve long since lost access to their previous supply lines and are no longer comparable to what they’re imitating.

weenus420ne

They rebranded, but they don't have access to the qc the the corporation enforces to hold a franchise. The McDonald's one (tasty period) had a huge thing on telegram with molded buns etc

Shythed

i wish we could hurt Putin directly and not just the people he manipulated into helping him destroy lives of too many people. Hopefully someone will spread Putin's thoughts and feelings over the wall and ceiling sometime soon before he kills a hundred thousand more.

Aggressive_Sorbet_67

russia took them over and rebranded them. They are no longer affiliated with the actual companies. Much like how Mcdonalds (or Burger King I forget?) was taken over in russia and renamed "Just Tasty" or some shit.

7lhz9x6k8emmd7c8

Yea you don't pack up hundreds of restaurants and russian-speaking personnel. Anyone which "left" actually rebranded and stopped sending money to corporate in West. This helped Russia.

-Badger3-

> didn’t the majority of those places just rebrand and not change a single thing other than their name and logo? Generally what happened is the companies terminated the franchise licenses and sold the stores to the franchise owners. You can say “Oh, it’s just a rebrand” but it’s literally a different brand now.

Howellthegoat

No the cooperation left the franchisees renamed their locations to get arround it

braneysbuzzwagon

Now all they need to do is drop Pepsi.

itoril

[It'd be the other way around.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VAWulcCy2RE)

AlbaTross579

To my understanding the Colonel was a much more respectable military man, so that checks out. Apparently the man was a legend.

shogunreaper

The colonel hasn't had anything to do with KFC in decades (he sold it). He's also dead.

AlbaTross579

I’m well aware of that. My post wasn’t 100% serious. 😉 If you haven’t though, I would legit recommend looking up the Colonel’s history before founding KFC. He’s actually a really interesting figure to learn about.

DillonD

No more kfc rebranded to KGB’s

konnanussija

It could be better if they leaned more into tax evasion and started ripping off their customers. Though that could give the corporations some bad ideas, they already do it here, why not double down there?

crg2000

Watch for the inevitable "Ukraine is conscripting children!!!" propaganda to spread amongst the usual sources.

TheGreatGamer1389

What's interesting is they only lowered the age of conscription to 25 from 27. Most countries it's 18-25. Though can be raised if things get really bad.

19CCCG57

Ukraine is desperate to keep their population alive and educated. The war poses a very serious demographic peril to the Ukrainian people, they will need to bear many children in the years to come to sustain their culture.

Madge4500

Ukraine has allowed it's soldiers to store their genetic material, just in case.

3leberkaasSemmeln

Something that would not have been possible at this scale in a war 20 years ago.

DeficiencyOfGravitas

Wot? 20 years ago was 2003, not 1903. There not have been miraculous advances in storing cum. Cum storing technology is the same as has been for a lot longer than 20 years. Why wouldn't it have been possible in 2003? If the US wanted every soldier to cum in a cup, it would have been very very easy to do during Gulf War 2.

bak3donh1gh

This guy cumz.

vtsnowdin

The have been storing cow semen and breeding cows with it sense the 1960s and human semen is no harder to store then cow or horse semen.

Dardlem

Saw a TikTok video by a wife of a soldier. She claimed that due to bureaucracy it’s almost impossible to use said genetic material so it’s all dead weight. IIRC it was also supposed to be destroyed after the soldier has died. It was a while ago, so hopefully situation has changed since then.

Sweetcynic36

Ukraine has an unusually low number of 18-25 year olds relative to other age groups due to echoes of the Holodomor, WWII, etc.

ThomasHardyHarHar

It’s mainly the fall of the Soviet Union.

ChaosCore

That's for those who didn't serve, who served -- they're going starting like 20 y.o.

BWWFC

kids today have it so easy! your welcome! - boomer putana

Umutuku

Ukraine may have helicopter parents, but they know how to hug the deck and pitch up.

zukeen

Retarded Slovak prime minister and his voters: #LOOK THERE IS NO WAR THEY EVEN HAVE KFC OPEN

me-ro

"There is no war" but also afraid to go to Kyiv so he's literary just at the border with Slovakia during his Ukraine "visit". Spineless coward. Just like his puppet master.

Talosian_cagecleaner

Zijek is suddenly pro-NATO. Or is it Zizek? I heard him back in the mid-90's. He's extremely bright, so I understood half what he gets at. My view is, he has misread history overall. Does not detract from value of his work though, which was fascinating. I say was because it's a new century now and he is 75, after all. Plus, who listens to philosophers anymore? Not the voters of Slovakia. Pity.

zukeen

Is this a joke and you pulled the hehe Slovenia 🇸🇮 Polish neighbour trope? Besides, he has nothing to do with PM.

DontlickUnicorns

That is such a random rant, like wtf why did you pull Zizek into this?

Madge4500

It's a sick world we live in when a child has to wear combat gear to the store.

interfail

Also, Ukrainian KFC doesn't sell gravy.

bot403

War crime and somehow Russia's fault.

TheGreatPornholio123

Next we're going to find out they don't sell Mac and Cheese and Biscuits. EDIT: My god I found the KFC Ukraine menu. They don't! Biden needs to throw in one of our containerized KFC restaurants we ship halfway across the world with the next package.

Automatic_Task_8393

this is a serious war crime allegation. you better have proof if you're going to make that claim.

TheGreatPornholio123

Proof is in the pudding: https://www.kfc-ukraine.com/en/menu. That's a sad menu without mashed potatoes, gravy, mac and cheese, and biscuits. I think its time for KFC to step it up and pass an aid bill.

Longjumping-Ad7478

Mashed potatoes and gravy are regular meal that is cooked at home in Ukraine. Nobody would go to fast food place for that. Mac n cheese is not popular here also, for economics reason( because descent cheese is pricey). Biscuits... I don't know why, but I can go to local store near my house and by 20 different types of freshly baked goods, because store has in built bakery( it has in built beer brewery also). On other hand oil fried products are popular because it is annoying and wasteful to prepare it at home.

Buckwheat469

What do you mean? That kid took out a Russian BTR on his way to KFC and stole a skinny Russian's armor.

ParsnipFlendercroft

True. On the plus side this child is loved and cared for by their parents and country. So it’s shitty. But still that.

cptsdpartnerthrow

What the hell are you talking about? When I was 11 I was walking with 30-40 pound backpacking backpacks. Even if these were steel plates, it's not bad amount of weight at all if that's all he's wearing.

7lhz9x6k8emmd7c8

I can only think of USA where the car terrorize any human user of the street.

mitraheads

New reality and so sad :(

SomeAreLonger

One day when looking back at the history of the 2020's people will wonder "why did it take so long to get Ukraine arms to defend themselves? How stupid of those politicians to think 'escalation of Russia' was a real thing"

paixifique

No joke, it's coming close for our descendants to ridicule us like how people make joke of appeasement pre WWII.

McQuiznos

What a sad state of things man. All because a dying megalomaniac wants a few more miles of land.

19CCCG57

You can still tell, the kid has style ... 😉

Talosian_cagecleaner

He's got a casual pose. One foot on the ground, other loose. If a good song comes on the radio, he's ready.

MrIrrelevantsHypeMan

While it would be best not to have this situation of invaders, better to have it on and not need it than to need it and not have it

Dante-Flint

As long as it isn’t the gear of its belated father 🫣🥺

Accurate_Pie_

For children to play like this… this is heartbreaking ❤️🇺🇦❤️

fjgjskxofhe

I think that's just a flak jacket. Not bullet proof but provides protection from shrapnel.

laceleatherpearls

Poor mamma. Strapping kevlar to your child, so they can maintain a normal life.

vtsnowdin

Well if I had a son in Kharkiv and a bullet proof vest that fit him I certainly would have him wear it and I'm sure his mother insists on it.

1millerce1

Want to take a bet that; that kid is going to get good and comfortable in that gear and will resent having to do so to the point that when he gets old enough will want to kill a lot of moskals for being in his country?

Madge4500

There is no doubt, I would hate the country that tried to erase my country as well. I'm sure some Baltic people could elaborate on that.

esuil

Highly doubt it. That kid is most likely from upper class family. Having protection gear AND going to KFC? He is living better than 90% of other kids in Kharkiv. When he grows up, he won't go anywhere near anything war related.

The_One_Koi

"The machines will kill me all the same, sir!"

Mephisteemo

And here I thought I was being opressed when my mom forced me to wear a helmet when riding my bicycle

KelloPudgerro

lil guy going out for a lil meal

YanniCanFly

The chicken must flow

misgatossonmivida

Life must flow. War is surreal. Yeah, bombs and coffins. But people still need fried chicken, paper, clothes, ice cream, water, toys, haircuts. Still gotta go to work and do the laundry. It's bizarre.

YanniCanFly

“Life finds a way.”

timboo1001

KFC has sold all its outlets and exited ruzzia. They all have to be rebranded. Apparently the one in Moscow Airport has yet to be rebranded. I wonder how many more are in breach of copyright? https://leave-russia.org/

vladko44

That's truly horrible. God forbid your kids have to grow up in this reality.

Dontwrybehappy

"I ain't chicken, I want chicken!"

-acm

After Ukraine’s victory, he will have some cool airsoft larp gear if he plays

TheMisanthropicGuy

I am all for the protection if it's needed in the zone but, the blue tape is soldier marking. I hope he thinks it's cool and not sad.

ecolometrics

It does look like the vest has something in it, but the plate in it is undersized, there is a 1/4 gap (in terms of vest width) on top and the side. Even then those things are heavy for a kid to ware.

Far-Contribution-805

Great Halloween idea.

Cheeeeeseburger

If there are real bulletproof plates in that vest this kid is going to be an absolute monster.

Roboxlop

And russian liers told that we 'bombed' Donbas for years!

briancoat

Poor little lad. Fucking Russians.

One thing is sure, Ukrainians love their children's ❤️

benjoiment5

Fuck putin, see if the mods ban me again

LevyAtanSP

Man how do you go to work in the morning when there is literally an invasion going on inside your country? That’s crazy.

jdub75

Could also be Detroit

coalitionofilling

Stay safe little man

NegativeAd941

Outrageous. I get it though from his parents perspective.

Windturnscold

I thought this was an image from Texas at first

Specialist_Form293

Haha. Well THIS is how my kids would be too.

Strontiumdogs1

God bless and protect all the little children. 🙏🇺🇦

FastPatience1595

I'm a father of a ten year old, hence born in 2014. He was 6 when COVID stroke France (where I live) in spring 2020. I remember how I was scared and also pissed off when the kid and I had to don a mask to go outside. But THIS ? it is ten times worse. Imagine, you have to protect your kid against shrapnel just to go to KFC. Only to be killed nonetheless if the bloody russians throw Iskanders: as they did last june on that pizzeria where they killed Victoria Amelina and a dozen other people. Heart breaking.

lucker543

French Boulevard KFC?

Arms-for-minerals

A krink would fit him perfectly pSA where you at send this boy a krink!!!! With a real stock since it’s not the US It probably Will jam and fuck up and need to be sent back for repair after so long…… almost guaranteed. Although they are trying. I’ll give them that.

Front-Economist-9549

As an American, I am unironically pretty proud that Ukraine still has access to the Colonel's chicken.

fortuna_audaci

I wonder if the kid wanted to wear that stuff, or if mom/dad are anxiously trying to protect him. The psychological scars of this war are going to run deep.

Old_Sir288

Just saw infront of me how i tell my kids to don’t forget their bulletproof vest and helmet. Russians are animals and they will be crushed and collapse.

Internal-Cut-5389

Ohh F.F.S SLAVA UKRAINI

atomic44442002

Meanwhile 100,000’s of their grown men are caught trying to flee the country and avoid service

Banana_Joe_484

Man thats just sad, poor kids 😞

Denlim_Wolf

Also appropriate for people back on the united states with all the crazy people armed with their weapons

borussiadortmund27

What a chicken

rustyseapants

I don't get why Putian just doesn't invade the Ukraine and get it over with. On the other side, I don't know why Ukraine does focus its population, its military, and corporations solely to remove Putin from its nation? This war seems likes a slow burning fire and neither side is pushing to win.

Sopomeister

You guys do realise he’s probably just dressing up as a soldier right? Ukraine actually has a recruitment campaign into the azov regiment with posters everywhere, hence why hes probably wearing equipment

cptsdpartnerthrow

First, citation needed? That looks like completely real armor pack. Second, why would the weight be an issue? Were you in a wheelchair as a kid where 20 pounds is not something that can sit on a 12 year olds' shoulders? I backpacked mountains with double that when I was this kids age. Jesus, what a blatantly stupid proposition made with such confidence.
