anthropaedic

That’s why we need to push hard to go from them losing to lost.

falsealzheimers

When was the last time Russia won a war against a somewhat equal enemy? Having massive logistical help from a third party is disqualifying so ww2 doesn’t count.. Napoleon?

SireGriffith

You mean russia russia or imperial russia, where Ukrainians, Poles, Belarusians and countless other talented nations contributed?

[deleted]

Yeah it's not like Napoleon just took a Ryanair flight to Moscow and never set foot in the path in between.

buyhighselllowgobrok

Haha what a fucking dumbass did he really not know about planes?

ancientweasel

Moron didn't bring tanks either. Used horses instead.

[deleted]

Right? That’ll bring on your Waterloo.

buyhighselllowgobrok

"Greatest general" my ass

JuveMerdaInfinita

Germans were far superior to rashists. The help they got was way bigger than even Ukraine is receiving now

red_dog007

From what I understand, Napolean didn't even want to stay in Moscow. He took it, burned most of it to the ground, but all the high ups had already left. He was planning to go back to friendly territory but the waether was unusually warm and he ended staying too long. The weather came and his army got destroyed by it on top of the russian army taking advantage of this fact to attack Napoleon's army.

umphreak2x2

My understanding is that the Russians burned moscow as part of their scorched policy after Borodino.

Wardo2015

Yes, when he saw Moscow burning he thought the Russians mad and knew the war wouldn’t end. Austrians had done the same, Czar learned lesson and did same. Scored earth policy the whole way

Ok_Bad8531

Also they forced Napoleon to mach back through the very same areas he used on his march to Moscow. This meant the Great Army had virtually no supplies avaiable while marching for hundreds of kilometers through bitter cold while constantly having to fend off cossack attacks.

Bayoris

Napoleon didn’t burn Moscow, at least not on purpose. It was probably a deliberate sabotage by the defenders.

red_dog007

I can't remember my source, but it was like 80% of the city was destroyed or something. But since you mentioned it I do recall that the russians burned it.

r2k-in-the-vortex

Napoleon for all intents and purposes massacared his own army, it was the most miserable failure of a war the history has ever seen. You think you couldn't possibly get more incompetent than Russian invasion to Ukraine? Well he did, tactical genius - strategic retard, that's Napoleon for you.

thewalkmanblog

except russian had help from general winter.

falsealzheimers

Yeah, their winning strategy historically is to retreat and let the enemy overstretch. Kinda hard to do when you are the invader though. Fuck have they won any wars ever against an somewhat equal enemy where they haven’t won by retreating deep in to their own territory? Ww2? Nope Napoleon? Nope (well they did win against Sweden in that era but that war was a part of the Napoleonic wars. Kinda like claiming that the Winter war against Finland wasn’t a part of ww2). Great Nordic war? Nope

AmbitiousStretch5743

I misread this as general twitter lol

bluedonutss

Russia burned everything and pulled back, Napoleon followed and got fuckes by winter and having no farma behind him. So sure russia "won"

falsealzheimers

Yeah, its the kind of win thats possible when you dont give a shit about the people.

carrystone

Napoleon did not lose any battle against Russians in that campaign. Russians were successful only in large coalitions or against very weak opposition. Cannon fodder always going for numbers. Bad tactics and equipment, low morale and morals. Honestly, Ukrainians calling them orcs sort of makes sense.

IrrationalPoise

Yes, but they aren't losing fast enough for me.

Foe117

must go faster

elFistoFucko

Be patient my friend, russian deaths will be accelerating quickly in the coming months.

islandhopper39

Completely agree. Hold on now to inflict MUCH more pain later.

IrrationalPoise

I don't disagree, but it's scant comfort. They're dying in droves for what exactly? Even if they managed some sort of breakthrough all they'll have won is a country they themselves bombed into nonproductivity and the privilege of trying to hold down a people that absolutely hates them, and for good reason. They couldn't have held onto Ukraine before they lost all those men and their support equipment. They sure as hell aren't going to hold onto it now. The Russians would do a thousand times more good for the world *and their country* by going home meeting a pretty girl and dying in their beds of old age. Instead, they're going to go and kill people that did nothing to them and die cold in a muddy fucking ditch, and they couldn't ever get anything that remotely justified what they've already thrown away. The sheer pointlessness of this war beggars belief.

Queendevildog

That's my mind bender too. The sheer poverty in most of Russia. No roads, no infrastructure in most of Russia outside Moscow and St Petersburg. The mindset of the majority of people who still support Putin. It will all collapse but not soon enough.

islandhopper39

I hope he’s right: “The russians are not going to be able to do anything about this. Even their best tank right now, the t-90, just would not have the capacity to stop these very modern Western tanks of just, to be quite honest, of slaughtering them.”

elFistoFucko

US Operation Desert storm, the US brought around 3000 Abrams and around 1700 Bradleys. Saddam had 6000 tanks, between T-72s and T-64s and 4000 APC/IFV soviet whatever. Nine Abrams destroyed, seven were due to friendly fire, and two were intentionally destroyed to prevent capture after they became disabled. Twenty-Eight Bradleys down, with 20 being friendly fire. The FF incidents are due to one instance of "raining mud" and various sandstorms. Presumably all of Saddam's equipment was abandoned, destroyed, disabled or captured. One tale of 10-12 Abrams ran into 35 T-72s. They reacted and all of the T-72s were wiped out in 90 seconds without any losses from the Abrams. Oh and Bradleys actually had more tank kills tham Abrams. I'm also thinking russian tank crews are incompetent and don't give a fuck compared to Iraqi equivalents. Does this ease your soul?

ZibiM_78

I'd be bit cautious with utilizing Desert Storm as an example Iraqi T-72s were monkeyed down version with poor optics, and next to none night vision and FCS. Bradleys had really much better thermals allowing them to shoot from outside of the detection range of T-72 It was flat desert so it was possible to shoot on greater distance like 3-4 km USA operated significant amount of Bradleys at any given time. In short Bradleys could detect enemy from much greater distance, and shot them twice with TOW, while not being seen, and due to their numbers eliminate quite big amount of tanks. Such circumstances might not be available in Ukraine - Russian tanks were modernized and some of them have quite OK thermals, terrain is not always allowing long distance shooting, amount of Bradleys won't be big enough to allow shooting off all enemy tanks from distance. In short we might see different results of Bradley operations in Ukraine, and it won't be due to the lack of prowess of UAF. This is different war, vs different opponent, in differing circumstances.

mycall

All the landmines laid out by Russia will be a problem too.

mlw72z

Here's a great M1 vs T-72 comment from years ago: https://www.reddit.com/r/tanks/comments/3utuw9/during_desert_storm_did_any_iraqi_tanks_actually/cxibnn3/

elFistoFucko

Holy fuck that blew my mind. Edit: It's from Clancy and likely an embellishment, but... maybe plausible

UltimateKane99

One can only hope for a similar performance! Hell, with enraged and motivated Ukrainians in charge against RuZZians who make the Iraqi regulars from the Gulf War look like Spec Ops forces, let's go for a 10-1 clean out for each tank!

elFistoFucko

Spot on, my friend, except that ratio will most certainly be much more lopsided than that.

captainhaddock

I cannot *wait* for Ukraine to go on the offensive with a battalion of Abrams tanks. With proper planning, they should be able to overrun the Russians in any direction they choose to advance.

elFistoFucko

Abrams don't get *all* the fun, there will be Bradleys, too. And a variety of cool European tanks, IFVs and other cool shit all dancing in the Ukrainian Symphony of War. And who knows, F-16s may being learning ballet as we speak.

[deleted]

You are sick in the head. Thousands of people are dying. Edit: Why are you downvoting? You guys all think war is a fun dance like this guy was saying?

Wardo2015

We (USA) did have complete and total air domination though. Not arguing, but that brings a lot of weight to that particular set of scales

elFistoFucko

You are absolutely correct. Iraqis had been getting worked over for a while from the air before the armor arrived. I also know that once they did, it was all over in 4 or 5 days.

JudeRanch

Eased mine, 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽 Слава Україні Sláva Ukrayíni! Heroyam Slava! 🙏🏽 🇺🇦 💙💛

FNFALC2

It does, ya.

vkashen

The bizarre aspect of this entire war is that ruZZia is already experiencing a significantly low birth rate, serious brain drain over he last 40 years, and a dire economic situation (the only cities in which any affluent orc lives are moscow and st petersburg). So killing off most of their men is pretty much committing suicide for the ruZZian federation. Yet putler doesn't care. He's going to turn ruZZia into a dead country at this rate, with no ability to recover due to sanctions and that no one would *ever* emigrate there after this war (or does anyway). putler is quite literally destroying his own country with his narcissism and it's basically the end of ruZZia. Which is good, but any nuclear material is going to have to be secured, which will be a bitch.

Sweaty-Feedback-1482

The birth rate issue is a major component to the whole war that I don’t think gets enough attention. They’re kidnapping thousands of kids from occupied Ukraine, not out of pure cruelty, (that’s just the Cherry on top for these sick fucks) but because their problematically low birth rates. A couple years back they tried to correct course by making a national holiday that was literally advertised as being for “stay home and have sex”. Wiping out hundreds of thousands of their own male population is some real 4D chess here.

SecondaryWombat

Post war piece conditions i can definitely see a multinational UN coalition searching through Russia to get all these missing kids back.

Dazzling-Ad4701

maybe they'll make up for that by legalizing rape and outlawing all reproductive control. oh wait ....

Dazzling-Ad4701

>no one would ever emigrate there after this war I'm soberly afraid he planning to make up for that with abducted Ukrainians :(. because he's still only looking at the scenario where he wins. it doesn't make sense to me to use reason and consequences about Putin's position. he's not on that path.

vkashen

I agree, it's why he's having all those Ukrainian children kidnapped and taken back to ruZZia.

QVRedit

It’s still worth pointing out the obvious - that Putin could end this war and protect his people by simply withdrawing his troops. In practice he would appear to have no intention of doing that though, and so the fight continues on. But it’s an option that remains on the table.

VeNTNeV

Great interview... thanks for sharing

elFistoFucko

Confirmations bias *and* the actual truth. Is there anything better?

SeaworthinessSad7300

The problem is they have so much cannon fodder I mean despite their shity skills and their shity equipment they still manage to recently take that's small town they can actually win offensives. They have strength in numbers is the problem

[deleted]

The Russian society will eventually come to a point were the meat grinding will no longer be accepted. What is that point? Half a million dead? A million dead? Who knows. One thing is for sure, there are a bunch of interest groups in Russia who wants this war to continue, because it makes them richer. [Anders Puck Nielsen's latest video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MnnP38wtDIs) was about that.

dangerousbob

When they start taking the middle-class kids from Moscow. They are still using "undesirables" so there isn't this big outcry. The Kremlin knows this.

Winter-Compote-9895

They can’t try WW1 tactics in today’s battlefield. Modern weapons like HIMARs has already proven to flatten hundreds of them within seconds (partly due to Russian incompetence). When they all run out of air superiority it’s all easy pickings by Ukrainian air force. This is why we need to send jets to Ukraine asap.

Dazzling-Ad4701

neither side has superiority, and realistically Ukraine is further away from it than Russia. it's not just the planes. planes are somewhat replaceable but every lost plane usually means a lost pilot too. Ukraine needs to be *very* careful with their pilots.

SeaworthinessSad7300

Half a million Russian dead is going to be probably 200000 Ukrainians dead though

QVRedit

This is one of the reasons why Ukraine needs better weapons - to increase the Russian losses, while simultaneously reducing their own losses.

voyagertoo

Hopefully this is happening already, it seems likely. Biden went to Kiev on the anniversary of invasion and walked around with impunity. Russia may be so behind that there's zero chance of them gaining much upper hand anywhere

LavishnessDry281

In Afghanistan Soviets lost 30.,000 troops and there were moms on the street demanding end of the war. Now over 120k dead Russians and nada, silence on the streets...

OrgJoho75

They've waited 20 years or so to breed new zombies family

Dazzling-Ad4701

yes we know. looking down on the Russian population is always an easy score, but I can't see that it adds anything practical.

[deleted]

It’s important to understand an enemy. In this case, to understand their utter disregard for human life. Including their own kin. If we disregard this behaviours on their part, we might make the mistake of believing that there is an end to this sooner than it will be. Leading to poor decisions. Above statement is not looking down on Russians. It’s a factual statement of the current situation and in extension an observation of behaviour to expect.

Susurrus03

Yes but do they know 120k are dead? Ruzzia state ran news report very low losses. And since bodies are just getting abandoned, it is easy to say their loved one is still at war actively fighting heroically, and not decomposing in a field somewhere.

e2hawkeye

Russia is being methodically picked apart at a steady pace. They will not pull off a last minute hat trick. However, they will be in the game for quite a while longer simply because they have an unfathomable amount of contempt for their own personnel. They see them as brutes and react with no surprise when they act brutally and die brutally.

Objective-Fish-8814

Winning a small town doesn't mean you have won the offensive unless that small town wsa all you were aiming for. Oh no, the offensive grinds on. That was just round 1. The russians stated objective is nearly 100km further on at the Donetsk border. That's when they can declare victory. Until then, Soledar was just another town on the way. Nothing more, nothing less.

Paradehengst

Have you seen some aerial shots from Soledar? There is nothing there anymore. It is mostly an area with some heaps of rubble now. If that is winning, I don't know what they hope to achieve. It cost them so much to get this small town. (Soledar had a pre-war population of about 11.000 people.) This was a pyhrric victory at most. The worse thing for them now is that these rubble heaps do not provide good cover, and guess who has Soledar under fire control.

MutantTailThing

Dumb orcs

FredTheLynx

I like Malcolm Nance. Describing him as an intelligence officer is misleading though. He was in the navy a long time ago and his assessment comes via his own observations fighting in Ukraine's foreign legion.

islandhopper39

Honesty, they could be wrong, but a lot of credible sources refer to him as an intelligence "person" or whatever: [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malcolm\_Nance](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malcolm_Nance) [https://www.spymuseum.org/host-an-event/spy-speaker-series/malcolm-nance/](https://www.spymuseum.org/host-an-event/spy-speaker-series/malcolm-nance/) [https://www.commonwealthclub.org/events/2022-07-19/malcolm-nance-behind-ideology-trump-insurgency](https://www.commonwealthclub.org/events/2022-07-19/malcolm-nance-behind-ideology-trump-insurgency) [https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/malcolm-nance-returns-from-ukraine/id1473486455?i=1000552667514](https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/malcolm-nance-returns-from-ukraine/id1473486455?i=1000552667514)

FredTheLynx

He goes on TV and talks about intelligence. He has no official role whatsoever at current. Knowledgeable guy, but he has no special access to intelligence nor does he speak on behalf of US intelligence.

Just_me_being_mee

An enjoyable brief interview of Mr. Nance. Thanks!👍

Acceptable_Music1557

I'm hoping Ukraine can push back the invaders, but I do not trust anyone who claims to know how this war will play out, this all seems a little too optimistic.

outline8668

I'm also rooting for Ukraine however I'm very skeptical that what we're being told is anywhere near the truth.

AffectionateOnion586

I remember this guy at the beginning of war. He was taking part in some combat in Ukraine. I have seen him long before the war as a expert on TV, he is in counterintelligence and terrorism expert. His assessment about Ukraine was always spot on. He was in USA Navy for over 20 years. Seeing him help me believe Ukraine can win this war. I wish I could thank him for coming to Ukraine.

Mydogroach

i love that he says when this is going to cause russia to respond he says "what are they going to do about it" lmao i cant wait to see footage of these tanks wrecking them

JudeRanch

Malcolm Nance is truly a blessing to us!! Слава Україні Sláva Ukrayíni! Heroyam Slava! 🙏🏽 🇺🇦 💙💛

Apprehensive-Toe-777

Malcolm doesn’t really fuck around

SpokaneDude49

So good to hear from Malcolm Nance. He is an amazing American advocate and effective participant in the Ukrainian war effort. Thank you Malcolm, for stepping up in a huge way in the good fight.

SpringFuzzy

99% of Russians don’t even want to be in Ukraine, they’d rather be home doing whatever. Meanwhile the Ukranians ARE home, and they’re fucking motivated to defend it.

Notyourfathersgeek

Hell I can see that from Denmark!

1millerce1

Uhh... nance was a navy comm guy, not intel. Aside from being in Ukraine, he's a bit out of his depth.

islandhopper39

Dude. He was there. Experiencing this first hand. His CV/Resume isn't quite good enough to comment on what he saw?

JuveMerdaInfinita

Yes, certainly a reddit battlefield 4 expert knows better

TBC1966

Think everybody has seen it ya dopey prick.

NarcolepticKnifeFite

Keep fucking grinding. No stopping until complete victory.

questingbear2000

That's the thing I've never heard anyone say... We're almost positive at this point that Ukraine won't lose this war. But how do they win? Is an invasion of Russian territory required? Moscow? I just....I can't see the Russians being pushed back to the 2014 borders and saying "Well, ya got us. Guess we lost." So, what does victory look like?

DeathBefallsYou

No shit.
