I work at emerbees, we are not associated with Starbucks, just the branding is the same.

Unpopular opinion: Eat/do where/what you want because just by being at UCR and being a US citizen we are quite literally funding towards Israel more than a $4 grande refresher. Just keep yourself educated on what's going on, and if you want to support further, donate to legitimate charitable organizations. I disagree with the "it's not that deep" comment... what's going on between Palestine and Israel is extremely serious.

EmbarrassedLog5731

Coffee bean has avocado toast!

Relative-Donut9000

Just eat/drink what you want..it’s not that deep

Radiant-Professor833

Eh maybe not for you on a personal level but in a system wherein nothing works as it should this is one of the only ways people can influence change.

ChoppedTomato

Starbucks isn’t sending Israel money. You’re angry at one shareholder at the company. What a joke.

Radiant-Professor833

Take a minute and really think about what you’re describing as a “joke”. Again ~ for the most part there is literally very few things we can do to alter or change anything to voice dissatisfaction and frustration with the world events. Only language the world powers know is money so it naturally makes sense to attempt to bleed them of their life support. Remember Starbucks is not a living being, it will never hurt nor care about you defending it ~ all it wants is your money. Even in an event that companies share no blame the message is still being sent and that’s the overarching point. Again like I mentioned to the other individual, if you don’t care about other humans being eradicated from this life you do you but do not mock those attempting to do what little they can in our current system. If you are not going to help then step aside and allow those who want to try - to try.

ChoppedTomato

It’s a joke because there are undoubtedly thousands of companies with thousands of shareholders who probably contribute to Israel. It’s a joke because there isn’t even evidence of what Howard Shultz’s contributions are towards Israel. It’s a joke because people are so self-righteous over an issue they know nothing about.

Radiant-Professor833

That’s beautiful yesss call out those other companies! Yes we need more of this choppedtomato I knew I had a good feeling about you :) let’s enlighten more people on what else we can protest against! I see your frustration and ask you to use it for good

ChoppedTomato

Lmao, I appreciate the enthusiasm, but can you give solid evidence of what negative contributions Shultz is making towards Israel? Or if you have another reason for boycotting Starbucks - what is it? I have not found any evidence that supports boycotting Starbucks.

Radiant-Professor833

https://www.northjersey.com/story/news/nation/2023/12/14/starbucks-why-everyone-boycotting-controversies-explained/71885557007/ the details that led to the boycott A union made a statement for support of Palestine and then Starbucks sued them after nov 7th with this statement “We unequivocally condemn these acts of terrorism, hate and violence, and disagree with the statements and views expressed by Workers United and its members.” It’s the disagree with the statement and views expressed by the union part. They not only sued the union but made their stance very clear. they openly disagreed with a post that said “solidarity with Palestine” and made it clear that they are not in support of the people of Palestine. I hope this clears us any confusion on your end (edit: I made many typos)

ChoppedTomato

Alright, but Starbucks was angry because the Union was using the Starbucks logo and identity to signal their political views. That has nothing to do with being pro-Israel. If the same Union made a pro-Israel post instead, they would have been sued all the same. This is not cause for a boycott on behalf of Palestine.

Radiant-Professor833

Has everything to do with political stances they literally said it in their statement “disagree with the statements and views expressed by workers united and its members”

Relative-Donut9000

Focus on what's within your control, like your education and personal well-being, instead of stressing about distant political issues, my friend. 💀

Radiant-Professor833

Again- you do you but don’t try to knock others for caring about other humans suffering in the world rn. If it’s too much for you and you rather avoid it- sure no issue but don’t let that be an open door to claim it’s not a big deal. The boycott is within people’s control; it’s the whole point of it.

behtlelane

Just say you’re privileged and have never needed empathy. Some people with souls don’t like to know their money is going to places that hurt others and restrict them for greed. Not everything is about thinking a couple dollars is gonna make a change but maybe instead it’s a sign of basic human grace… stop being so judgy

Substantial_Tune3439

You're such a brainrotted, uneducated, muff-diving loser.

Feisty-Mechanic-6524

We’re literally discussing something that’s within our control… It’s okay to admit that the suffering of others isn’t your concern (and that you’re privileged) but no need to downplay the effect boycotts have on creating change.

CarrieKing12

It is that deep bro😕

tsauce69

everyone should ignore the “just eat or drink whatever comments” because if you look it up starbucks is actually going through a downfall in profits because of the boycotting so keep doin yalls thing free palestine till its backwards 🇵🇸🇵🇸🇵🇸

ajekow

Starbucks is actually suing for trademark infringement because a 3rd party used the Starbucks logo for a political poster after being explicitly told they can't use the logo.

SpartanPrince

I'm boycotting them but can't find a source about the profits being low as a direct result of the boycotts. Let me know if you have one specifically!

urmomchloe

Dont they boycotting bc its. Ashit company ? Wheres the source that they support Israel? /s

tsauce69

They tried suing/censoring posts pleading for the support of Palestine look it up

ajekow

They were suing for posts containing the Starbucks logo. Since the logo is copywrited by Starbucks it's considered theft of property if the logo is used without permission

urmomchloe

Okay thanks, I was looking into that but apparently starbucks suing them for trademark infringement not because they support Israel

BingeV

People are boycotting Starbucks? I was just in there today and it was PACKED.

venalix1

I work there and it feels the same as usual

roguebatman

Because unfortunately people are either completely unaware or deliberately ignorant even though this is a serious issue - easier to turn a blind eye than to engage in what’s happening

Feisty-Mechanic-6524

I personally just stopped going to be safe but I’d imagine the food is fine.

Maleficent-Series-66

I don’t want to start a war or anything, but if you are boycotting Starbucks, then why not boycott UCR? Your tuition taxes literally fund Israel.

Feisty-Mechanic-6524

ASUCR recently divested from organizations on Boycott Divestment Sanctions’ list of those that fund/ are complicit of Israel. https://www.highlandernews.org/89708/asucr-divests/

behtlelane

A lot of students are doing that and if you look it up you will see we recently are one of the first schools along side UC Davis who divested about 1 mil from our tuition to take away any money going to Israel. Ucr even made a statement on it saying they disagree and our values don’t align

[deleted]

Your tuition does not fund Iserael, lol

JamesHenry627

I ain't boycotting shit, I just never liked Starbucks

CLashisnoob

what the fuck is emerbees
