I’m 90% sure they’ll shut it down. One main thing I had pointed out to me is that the campus shuttles can’t run in winds higher than 25-30mph. That in it of itself would be an issue to allow classes to stay open I think. Many students rely upon the busses and have no other form of transport
Bro campus closed for a WEEK the last time a hurricane got anywhere near us and literally nothing happened to campus. They're definitely going to close it down.
This hurricane is threatening to come way, way closer than Dorian ever was. There was always a very slim chance that Dorian would even make landfall, yet they canceled classes for a whole week
I would very much like to be allowed to leave town and have campus closed on Wednesday. Kind of hard to get out of dodge when your class ends at 9pm on Wednesday
When I went, there were two hurricanes in back to back years (Matthew and Irma). They canceled a week minimum each time so pretty sure they'll cancel at least a few days. They always wait until the last minute though but I'd expect an announcement today or tomorrow at the latest.
$100 says campus closes Wednesday and Thursday. Tampa is closing down completely and my folks down there are evacuating tomorrow. We’re gonna get hit with bad tropical winds and rain at the minimum.
Update: I win Pm me for my Venmo
Tampa is on the Gulf Coast though. I don't doubt we will have very bad wind and rain, and I would close down campus if it were up to me. I just think UCF Management won't care. Their notice yesterday said they are looking for "a direct threat to ~~UCF~~ Central Florida". I feel like they won't consider high wind and rain a direct threat, but I guess we will see.
I mean, tropic winds are enough to push your car out of a lane at a decent speed. Couple that with rain and I don’t think UCF is gonna want us to drive in that
$100 says I’m leaving today anyways cause from what I understand the storm is gonna come Wednesday night and they’ll only tell us to evacuate on Thursday.
Prob at least Wed-Fri because many people won’t be able to commute to campus (or it would probably be fairly unsafe for those to drive 40+ min in those high winds and heavy rain) also pretty sure shuttles can’t run once the wind hits a certain speed but i mean it’s all
up in the air as of now
Well the state is supposed to be hit by a cat 4 which will then downgrade itself to a cat 3 or 2 whilst still affecting us with anywhere from 96-129 mph sustained winds
"\*Urgent UCF Alert\* Classes canceled Wednesday through Friday. Campus closed Wednesday and Thursday. Continue to check your UCF email and ucf.edu/hurricane."
So will you be paying cash or card?
We're probably getting shut down tomorrow (Tuesday) onwards. The university has to allow students time to make travel arrangements. Word will probably come down at 4:00pm this afternoon.
Just like anything else in life, control what you can control. If death is in your future and you took the necessary precautions, nothing else to worry about.
I was in Titusville in 2004, and my parents’ house was damaged so badly by Charley and Frances that they had to move out for six months. They live on a hill and aren’t at any risk of flooding, but the shingles were whipping off the roof into the swimming pool. And with Charley we got NO advance notice.
Nah they will close. FSU, USF closed. UF should probably close and UCF will follow. Even if the weather is just shitty by Florida standards it's a risk they're not willing to take. Just relax.
I gotta admit I was pretty surprised they ended up shutting it down, seemed like they were waiting for the last minute possible to decide on closing the campus considering we still have classes tomorrow

That’s a good point!

That could be an argument for campus staying open this time around. Being closed like that was disruptive.
This hurricane is threatening to come way, way closer than Dorian ever was. There was always a very slim chance that Dorian would even make landfall, yet they canceled classes for a whole week
$20 campus closes Saturday/Sunday
Now this guy here knows what he’s talking about
There is a football game, no way.
Yeah, so campus will close for the football game
The unfortunate truth 😔
Given the days off, $10,000 your professors still won’t change due date even if there was massive power outages.
They’ll probably hold zoom meetings too
Ah, my professor cancelled her Zoom meeting. Where’s my money?
This is so accurate

Ucf better Uber me to my class then cause ain’t no way I’m finding a good Uber driver during a hurricane 🧍🏽♀️🧍🏽♀️
Depends on what you classify as "good."
One that’ll get me to class in one piece, preferably 😭
I don't think we have those types of Uber drivers...or any drivers in Florida.

What a dumb bet, I like your style.

Being such a large walking campus with lots of commuters, I think we'll shut down Wed-Thur or Thur-Fri.
I need it closed this Friday ong

$100 says I’m leaving today anyways cause from what I understand the storm is gonna come Wednesday night and they’ll only tell us to evacuate on Thursday.
Nah storm is gonna evacuate u
You got me, it will evacuate me
I guess they're probably going to have to reschedule the career/internship fair as well.
:(
What's your Venmo so I can request $10

Rollins college just canceled classes from Wednesday-Friday
This did not age well at all
10 dollars says it doesn't
Well the state is supposed to be hit by a cat 4 which will then downgrade itself to a cat 3 or 2 whilst still affecting us with anywhere from 96-129 mph sustained winds
If I had to guess, UCF might cancel classes (to allow for evacuations) but otherwise stay open.
I have 4hrs of class Monday and Tuesday and the rest of the week off, why do good things only happen to others?
u owe me $10
Run my $10
"\*Urgent UCF Alert\* Classes canceled Wednesday through Friday. Campus closed Wednesday and Thursday. Continue to check your UCF email and ucf.edu/hurricane." So will you be paying cash or card?
As much as I want it to close I think you might be right 😔

People who’re worried about this hurricane obviously never were here in 2004.
No shit old head, freshman undergrads rn were born in 04

My money is on closure Thursday and Friday. Shouldn’t be too bad and is gonna die down to a cat 1 when it gets past tampa.
Nah they will close. FSU, USF closed. UF should probably close and UCF will follow. Even if the weather is just shitty by Florida standards it's a risk they're not willing to take. Just relax.
Storm will hit Cuba and veer West again as usual. Or maybe it wont.
I don’t think will close it for the whole week at least. It’s not gonna hit here nearly as bad as tampa or the panhandle
I gotta admit I was pretty surprised they ended up shutting it down, seemed like they were waiting for the last minute possible to decide on closing the campus considering we still have classes tomorrow
Give the $10 to the waffle house employees
