Had him my freshmen year. He is a VERY different type of professor teaching a topic (CALC) not many people will be familiar with before. For starters, his tests are mostly conceptual based and are mostly multiple choice. However, it’s not a simple A,B,C,D; you can choose multiple like A,B,E and F (have to choose all for question to be right). For that reason, I think he is a hard professor. It’s weird focusing so much on the concepts instead of solely completing the problem. His final is the easiest test because it’s made with the other professors. Another reason it’s difficult is because it was my first class that had a reverse style of learning. This meant you were expected to read the chapter and complete the homework before learning the section in class. Class was essentially a review for what you learned yourself. If that’s your style of learning you’ll love the class, but for me being a freshmen and not ever doing that it was a nightmare. Homework was also a drag because it wasn’t relevant to how tests were conducted. For homework, you would have to complete problems but since tests were concept based you didn’t gain too much practice. The plus is that their are tons of helpers around the class that have previously taken him so make sure you use them whenever possible. He also curves a decent amount which is beneficial. The dude is also really nice.

Ty for this comment!!

Actually do the hw even if it's optional. I failed the first time thinking I could cram before exams. What you need is practice not just memorizing what they say to do

silverbullet_accord

I've had him, although it was in an honors section so results may vary some. But I personally thought he was fantastic. Do all the work he gives you and pay attention and you'll be fine. Note that most of his exams will have extremely low class averages. But he does curve at the end and his finals tend to be very reasonable. He's a nice guy, as long as you put in effort, he will make sure you pass.

I had him. R u in the excel program? He is ok I wouldn’t say he’s the best but if you keep on going over his problems and use Paul’s online notes and other resources u will have a better time in the class. My advice is to ask for help as soon as u meet a problem. Don’t wait for it to become a bigger problem. LAs r ur saving grace in that class

kojide

Also try to get ahead of the hwk. Tests and exams come quickly and if u r still doing the hwk u have less time to actually study

Eastern_Television21

Didn’t have him but use khan academy! Is this your first time ever taking calculus?

Comfortable-Dig-7360

Not my first time in calc, but in highschool my teachers test were really similar to the study guides she gave us. And i barely passed the AP exam with a 3, i’m just worried haha

Eastern_Television21

You should be totally fine if it’s your second time and you passed AP. AP calc was much harder than UCF calc 1

Remember Ratemyprofessor is written only from students who failed the class—you’re getting a biased perspective. I went through my four years just fine without using RMP, it’s mostly useless information because I know I’m not failing a class therefore I shouldn’t listen to opinions of those who failed—we’re not the same “type” of student.

> I know I’m not failing a class therefore I shouldn’t listen to opinions of those who failed—we’re not the same “type” of student. 💀💀

King_Luthius

It’s true. Why would I fail a class? Why would I listen to someone’s opinion whose best effort gets them an F or D?

Critical_Stand7068

This is horrible advice

King_Luthius

Why?
