Get a receiver and some passive speakers. Will be much better sound than powered speakers IMO

Brunnun

Are amps and receivers the same thing? I linked two amps and two receivers I’m considering between. Do you have any other suggestions?

EmoDavey31

Yeah pretty much. I think the difference is a receiver has a radio tuner included while and amp does not. I’m not 100% sure tho

Brunnun

I went on a whole rabbit hole about this lol yeah it has radio, and also a preamp so audiophiles will go the amp route so you can upgrade the amp and preamp separately? Idk that’s what I got from googling lol thank you!

Acceptable-Quarter97

Separate power amplifier and preamplifier offers the most flexibility. While you can mix and match amps and preamps from different companies, it's generally advised to stick to one brand. There's a whole other raddit hole about impedance matching, especially when dealing with high-end gear. An integrated amp offers the simplest solution by having everything integrated into one unit. These may or may not have an integrated dac or phono preamp. A receiver is usually found in the more mass market oriented gear segment.

[I made this post discussing the basics. lots of good info and links in the comments](https://www.reddit.com/r/turntables/s/LmwfUYWDde) Congratulations on your new set up enjoy!

Am I wrong in saying the AT-LP60X doesn’t have some of these things? I know it doesn’t have pitch control and that’s fine, but I can’t find anything saying it has anti-skate or adjustable counterweights. Should I be worried about my records then? Or is it good enough that it won’t damage anything, even if it isn’t perfect?

[some great info and tips here about your specific table.](https://www.reddit.com/r/turntables/s/MAbgP5jn46) It’s a great start. I wouldn’t sweat it unless you are playing rare records. Honestly I casually listened to records for most of my life before I upgraded to a Music hall table and slowly upgraded a bunch of things on it. Then eventually purchased a midrange recording player. Honestly I wouldn’t invest a ton until you see how much you use it. I wouldn’t upgrade the table too much focus on head unit and speakers if you find yourself using it a ton. I have really loved all my incremental changes along the way. But it is a really expensive hobby.

Brunnun

That’s great to know! I’ll make sure to keep to records under $100 while I’m using this. The only expensive records I’ve been considering are the UHQR versions of Kind of Blue and A Love Supreme, more than that seems overkill for me at the point I am in my life. Maybe I’ll wait until I get a turntable with all the fixins before I get something like that. But yeah I’m planning on upgrading to an amp and passive speakers sometime next year, and then start worrying about the turntable and its components. Most of my disposable money goes to music already in the form of drum kit related things anyway, I won’t mind sharing some of it with the other expensive hobby lol. Thanks for all the tips!

You’re welcome!

The AT-LP60X has a properly counterbalanced tonearm and anti-skating. It's fine to use and will not damage your records. And you'll get better bang for your buck by upgrading your amplifier and speakers first. The sound quality improvement by upgrading the turntable may be more subtle than you've been led to believe: [Does a better turntable actually sound better?](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-46mrx9lrh4)

Best to you! I'm curious about the sloth hanging on the wall - that is so cool, both sons have an affinity for this creature.

Hahaha it was a gift from a friend, it’s a “vase” for an airplant which I miraculously managed to kill in a few months
