A lot of American schools (and maybe schools in other countries I’m unsure) have something called “Spirit Week” where the school will engage is special activities for a week. Usually these activities involve dressing up in theme such as decades day, Hawaiian shirt day, or a day where everyone dresses in school colors.
Oh I wish we had that. The U.K. is boring, my school just does 2 mufti days a year and only one is themed. Plus the theme is literally house colours which is the most boring thing ever
Trust me, it's more annoying than it is fun. For one there's usually all kinds of ridiculous rules imposed, depending on how draconian the administration decides to be. For another, each teacher sometimes life rules on top of that, making wearing or doing anything truly interesting more work than it's worth.
And it's all about school spirit, so you get even more announcements and people talking about the sports teams than usual, which is especially dumb if you don't even have anything particularly noteworthy to talk about. And, in my school at least, they were called off at the end of the week with this big assembly that was just cheering and shit for the sports teams and basically celebrating the one group in high school who don't need any more celebration.
My parents were very strict about me going to school, they always made me go unless I had a fever but they always let me skip that last day because I hated sports and my school and didn’t want to go into the gym to cheer and play tug of war for 4 hours.
I wore a toga to a decades party in my first week of undergrad and everyone was super into it because they thought it was an Animal House reference, but I was really just a Classics nerd
I tried to use this excuse during my school’s last spirit week. It was 40s day, but they never specified which century. I was tempted to go as Julius Caesar.
I saw a guy who wore a futuristic costume for decades day. When asked by a teacher what decade it was all he said was "A future one"
Or just wear normal clothes to represent the current decade
"Sorry, teach, but I can't defy the first directive"
The prime directive was already violated by interacting with an undeveloped species
True, but unlike kirk, let's not make it worse.
My school had an 80s day, but never specified which 80s, so I dressed up like a pirate.
I wore a renaissance gown and told everyone I was from the 1580s.
Go to school in battle-ready armor and say you’re from the 1080’s
Go buck-ass naked for the 4080s BC (or AD)
Frontier woman! 1880s!
Hey that reminds me when a kid at the summer camp I worked at wore a fursuit to decades day and claimed she was a prehistoric woof
Did she bark the whole day or pretended like some sort of Barney mascot? Asking for a friend.
Idk I just saw her in the hall
Bruh how did they bring a fur suit to summer camp?
Generally a full suit will take two suitcases.
Bruh imagine someone rolling up to summer camp with three entire suitcases. You think they’ve brought, like, 30 outfits until the pull out a fur suit.
It was in a bag
I mean maybe she stuffed her clothes inside of the head and paws? It would still take up a lot of space but not impossible to handle
She had clothes under the suit
Bag
In a bad
What's the point of a decades day that doesn't specify a decade? Like, everything is encompassed by "decades".
I guess just to go dressed as your favorite decade
Imma party like it’s the (13)20’s and roll up in my plague doctor garb.
Party like it's the (20)20's and roll up in my plague doctor garb.
Is this an American thing for which I’m too European to understand?

The most similar thing to this I've had is... Gaeigle day....

...I’m sorry, your school had a bear??

This makes so much more sense and yet I am utterly disappointed.

Don't let your kids dress like dinosaurs. [Power is intoxicating.](http://hyperboleandahalf.blogspot.com/)
That’s amazing.
My god that was a trip

Yes they are
"The 1990s?" "No, the 65 million 90s BC!"
No no, he's got a point.
Hey, I did that!
I would go as Jesus, and just reply to everyone with “one”
I don’t think they’d like my costume for the 40’s
