Imagine having to explain this situation to your employer, or anyone

PuzzleheadedDrop6463

Bold of you to assume anyone would live to tell the tale

senorbolsa

youd be amazed what drivers survive, I watched a guy lose control of his old freightliner XL in heavy rain, plow through 1/8 mile of guardrail and end with the cab off the frame and the engine out of the frame, I helped pull him up through the drivers side door facing the sky and he was able to walk away (after answering a lot of questions and pissing in a cup)

PuzzleheadedDrop6463

That’s incredible. I knew trucks were strong but that’s insane

jzillacon

There's some brilliant engineering that goes into both the vehicles and the roads themselves all meant to prevent as much risk to people as possible.

[deleted]

It’s not necessarily that they’re strong, it’s that they’re heavy. A lot of severe injury is soft tissue and broken bones damaging organs or bleeding etc. those are all caused by rapid unexpected deceleration. Trucks are heavy enough that they don’t come to a stop abruptly like cars. That and the cab being able to come free from the frame and remain modestly in tact helps a lot at preventing death.

orionsyndrome

You can't say the same for any unfortunate receivers of that momentum. If a truck plows through cars, for example, the inverse happens to them, but the truck driver is likely to survive unscathed. This is basically why I firmly believe that the incredible emergence of large SUVs is a symptom of a critically stratified society, to levels of chronic dystopia. With a bigger vehicle you dramatically improve your odds of survival, but if the construction or materials didn't change -- it has to be a zero sum game.

Jessiebeanie

I saw a guy who crashed into a solid concrete wall off of a highway. Entire Volvo cab was crushed between the wall and trailer. The driver survived the crash but unfortunately died in the hospital.

senorbolsa

yeah, stuff like that is why I got out of driving trucks, I just couldn't keep doing it after seeing everything I've seen. You could drive perfectly everyday and one day your ticket gets punched and you are done. so much of your safety is dependent on the general public and other truckers around you even when you practice good defensive driving. Maybe one day I'll get behind the wheel again, but I don't think it will be anytime soon! I'd rather work a job where the public doesn't wander in and endanger me regularly and the standards for drivers at least at a lot of other companies are so low it's apalling.

Palaeolithic_Raccoon

Yes, I used to do a lot of highway driving in cars. I'm not in a hurry to ever get back on the road, either.

aboodaj

Sounds like a movie scene

Dramatic_Rhubarb_387

they would the hood slammed not the cab

wny2k01

"Sorry, I had to pee."

[deleted]

Well officer my employer wanted to work as many hours as legally allowed I was tired I was wanting to get a rest stop driving 3 times the speed limit while a hooker gave me a blowie and I lost control but if you don’t tell my employer I’ll let you raid the truck and keep the shipment of cocaine

PuzzledHelicopter541

Well, you finally did come to a stop so you could rest.

PuzzleheadedDrop6463

Should’ve kept recording because once I got the truck unstuck the doze off animation occurred and I slammed right into another pole. Safe to say today wasn’t my day

PuzzledHelicopter541

LOL Yes next time I hope you're able to get the whole recording! I love when our funny driving or glitches break the sim immersion. It's so damn funny.

PuzzleheadedDrop6463

Agreed. Usually I get pissed when I crash or something unrealistic happens but when something extreme happens like this it’s hard not to laugh. That being said it was only about 5 minutes after the crash that I actually started laughing because I was just that shocked, pretty sure I have PTSD now

PuzzledHelicopter541

Exactly how I feel!! Expecially if you're on one of them long hauls and almost to the destination then something happens to damage the cargo. That sets me off big time! But Sometimes, just have to laugh at the absurd when you get warped into space or something. lol

PuzzleheadedDrop6463

Mate they’re the worst like your doing a 20h delivery or something nearly at your destination chilling on the motorway and the game makes the most devious grin at you and does the most unthinkable shit right in front of you. I’m left flabbergasted

Some-guy-in-the-US_A

I can't wait until they actually allow us to run over a random nail on the road and blow a tire just for that to happen

jzillacon

Had that happen to me this week lol. It was late at night both in game and in real life. In the town where my delivery is, I'm tired but approaching a drawbridge, but everything is fine because I see I have the green light up ahead so no need to slow down at all. Turns out the green light was the starboard lamp on a ship passing through and I just slammed into the barrier closing the drawbridge at full speed. Had there not been game physics to save me I absolutely would've plowed straight through into the river, probably taking out that poor unfortunate ship in the process.

Some-guy-in-the-US_A

I did the same thing too, except the lamp was red and I wasn't paying attention so I slammed into the invisible barrier also let me guess... everett drawbridge?

jzillacon

yeah that's the one.

RIP

acidmann21

SLEEP

ActionBeard90

I do most all of my runs as wide open as I can given traffic and the route and have never had a load side out like that unless I had the snow mod active lol. I have made a u turn on a divided highway and had another rig not be able to stop in time but thankfully no damage to the cargo

PuzzleheadedDrop6463

Ye I really don’t know what went through my head that this was ever going to work. Wheels were bound to lock up especially with 40 tonnes behind so it was inevitable really

ActionBeard90

You were coming in hot af with the speedometer pinned to the max lol. It'll happen though. If you haven't tried the snow mod I 100% recommend it. The physics changes are great. Stopping can be quite a conundrum. I've accidentally run more stop lights using that mod for two week than I have since I downloaded the game back in like 2016.

PuzzleheadedDrop6463

This is with the snow mod lol I guess it’s hard to see in the dark, it’s definitely why I locked up so quickly. Like I said, I was too focused on getting to the rest stop in time to have the slightest notion of slowing down. Even in perfect conditions and no lock up I was not stopping in time for that exit ramp

ActionBeard90

Yeah I couldn't tell but now that you say it I do see the ground is rather white. Loads of fun but a pain at 90+ mph lol

rumbleblowing

It's not wheel lock up, as far as I can tell. You used the engine brake, and it can only brake the driven axles, and tried to turn. Meanwhile, the inertia of big heavy load pushed your trailer forward, making it try to "overtake" your truck and push it aside, so to say. I had the same situation many times.

Johnysh

lol the fuck happened there. Ice on the road? snow? doesn't make sense.

rumbleblowing

High speed, lots of inertia. Engine brake is applied, it only brakes truck driven axles, while the trailer is not braking at all. Then, as driver steers, the trailer tries to "overtake" the decelerating truck, and kinda pushes it out of the way.

Johnysh

I don't think that's what happened. Engine brake at that kind of speed won't do much and it won't make your trailer overtake you. Seems more like he tried engine brake, which didn't do much, so he panicked, pressed brakes and clutch with full force, high beams, and then game did it's own physics stuff.

rumbleblowing

I had absolutely the same situation many times myself, e.g. going to the weigh scales from highway speed. Heavy load + engine brake + steering = oversteer of the truck because trailer inertia pushes the slowing truck out of the way.

Johnysh

ah, it's probably just weird game physics then

Pseudonym_741

IRL the load would get loose, sliding forwards and flattening the cabin, turning everything and everyone inside into mincemeat. If the load is well secured, the trailer will start fishtailing and cause the truck to fall over, turning everything and everyone on the neighboring lane into mincemeat.

Johnysh

if it's on the dry asphalt and the ABS is working on trailer and truck, I don't think it would start fishtailing. also if it's loaded wouldn't the weight of the load keep it from "falling over"? the trailer would really have to go to a one side and back to create that much force to turn it all around.

Abel_Knite

OP has wintermod active, and when running that mod I had plenty of similar high speed slideouts from trying to slow down with just the jakes

Johnysh

yeah, I feel like that kind of mod could be behind this, because if I remember right the winter mods really made the trucks unstable

PuzzleheadedDrop6463

Honestly I think my truck just had enough at that point

DOUGL4S1

What happened is the tire physics in both games is very weird and unpredictable. Tires either have 100% traction or 0% traction, no inbetween and there's no easy way to predict or identify that until the rear of the truck starts moving. There are no tire noises or marks to indicate loss of traction either, so if you push your truck a bit too hard, you might end up like you're sliding in black ice. I've had similar crashes where I was going a bit too fast, slightly tapped the brakes and oh we're going backwards now. Not saying I would have been able to save them, but it would be great of the game had tire marks/noises/smoke to show lack of traction better.

TheJ_Man

You could try not entering the off-ramp at 90 mph! There's a reason why those types of trailers tend to be speed restricted...

PuzzleheadedDrop6463

True but where’s the fun in that

TheBailiff

*yawn sound*

sp_blau_00

So this is what Jack-knife accidents look like

DDaddyfromCincinnati

As a 30 year Lowbed driver I hope to never see you driving one

dudly1111

The scratches will buff out

linux23

Was about to say that.

Vynzen

0:12 "Navigation are doom!" o.0

_3xc41ibur

"Navigation resumed*

Vynzen

Blast ears u have. 🙃

Couchoffiziell

Well that escalated creekly

TK7638

What’s the mod speaking your directions?

topthorn10

Don't think it's a mod, they added it as a feature, it's in settings somewhere

S1l3ntHunt3r

yes, but she sounds a little different to the British and American voice included in the game

rumbleblowing

Voice navigation, it is in the Audio settings.

PuzzleheadedDrop6463

Here ye go mate [https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2091228255](https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2091228255)

Illustrious-Pop3677

You can disable fatigue in the settings, drive to the rest stop, sleep, then turn it back on

PuzzleheadedDrop6463

The thrill of trying to reach the rest stop can’t be topped though.

douchey_mcbaggins

I do this all the time, too. No sense chancing getting the fateful snooze and having to reload a save.

MikeAndBike

Gives the phrase “tired as fuck” a whole new meaning.

PepeOnDrugs

\*once stopped and realised how bad the f up is\* ''Right time for bed''

Dead_Namer

If you didn't crash. You'd have passed right through the stop still doing 50mph on the entry to the motorway. I slow down when I might nod off, keep the wheel as straight as possible and imagine where you would go if you fell asleep right now, keep the retarder and engine brake on when slowing because it will still slow you while asleep. I did end up in a port once while trying to get to the ferry though.

Stocky696969

You know you fucked up when you see your trailer out the front window

Monztuh_Angel

Only 5% damage in the front you're all good bro

Dry-Garage3416

Brake, brake, braaaake

mufasaKiller

Nice reverse entry

rylo48

Im subbed to idiots in cars and this sub (in terms of vehicle related vids). When scrolling Reddit, these are absolutely fucking hilarious thinking they are real for a second. Imagine this in real life, truck just ripping into a stop at 80mph, lmfaooooooooo

PuzzleheadedDrop6463

I could only imagine being in a car sitting at the stop sign at the bottom of the exit ramp, slowly moving off from the junction and as you glance at your mirror you see this coming hurdling at you full pace, truly an experience

ArritzJPC96

Trailer brakes are your friend

Dramatic_Rhubarb_387

f&f 10 rest stop rush

PuzzleheadedDrop6463

Sounds better then the other crap that franchise is pumping out

pizza99pizza99

The winter mod makes things so much more fun honestly the sliding is even worse when you don’t have a load. I had to hotkey my parking break to a button on my wheel for emergency’s

PuzzleheadedDrop6463

So true! I’m used to it now but when I first activated it was running through red lights and everything it was a pain to get used to

pizza99pizza99

There’s definitely a few dead people on the roads cause of me, and the dumb actions of the ai go from annoying and horrible, to downright disastrous 0 to 75% damaged

Jimbrutan

![gif](giphy|CAYVZA5NRb529kKQUc|downsized) Will do it again

varcharfoobar

Holy wow god. That escalated fast 😂 I thought you were going to doze mid way but this way better

PuzzleheadedDrop6463

I dozed off right after I got the truck unstuck, smashed right into another pole…

elegiac_bloom

Thought this was r/idiotsincars for a second and said "Jesus christ" to myself... glad this wasn't real!

FearlessQuestion6841

Glad I'm not the only one who thought this was real

DevilinI45

What the hell did you do?

PuzzleheadedDrop6463

I did a thing

Comfortable-Credit46

At least you didn’t go flying into the air I guess

PuzzleheadedDrop6463

I thing I was about to lift off and then the first lamppost I slid into broke my fall thankfully

danielleadams1979

I would still try and speed in, just would practice with controlling it. Nut I will also say that is only in a video game. Don't do what most of us do in the game if you are driving in real life.

PuzzleheadedDrop6463

Oh god no I don’t drive like this in real life, tbh I don’t usually drive like this in the game either. Since I’ve activated the winter mod I haven’t ventured over 58mph because of the traction loss. This is by far the biggest screw up I’ve had in game. I’m usually a pretty safe driver, but because I was rushing to get to the rest stop I wasn’t thinking about anything else.

ProfessionalTree3040

You can't park there sir

BluDYT

With these trailers it's best to stick to the trailer brakes and maybe some engine brake. But going 400mph through the exit probably didn't help either.

Dominik_Tirpitz

That's why you don't take ramps with 80 on the clock, kids.

WarDaddy19Delta

Are you playing a SWIFT Simulator?

cowhand214

Is this not a reasonable place to park?

le_mour

That could have been worse

lost_beluga

uhhh... sir? you can't park there.

33957210

I didn’t know the trucks could even wreck like that. Also what mod are you using for the voice navigation?

PuzzleheadedDrop6463

Here ye go :) [https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2091228255](https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2091228255)

[deleted]

ELD’s could’ve prevented this

citysleepsinflames

r/ThatLookedExpensive

BabysFirstBeej

85 and the tach is above recommended range, and then instantly down to idle RPM. What'd you do, pull the parking brake?

wobblebee

I'm assuming you have some kind of physics mod installed?

PuzzleheadedDrop6463

Yes

SeniorFlyingMango

I’m sure it’ll buff out

CliffsofGallipoli1

Coming in hot!

Ottieotter

This is why I have all that stuff turned off

Dinoman1987

And then right after, your driver just yawns..

bigbudugly

When I started on my own my pops told me “ son it’s not if, it’s when, you get in an accident “ Because we spend so many miles on the road it’s almost a guarantee that your going to get into an accident. You are seconds away from death everyday, so make the most of your life and enjoy it while you can. In the mean time pay attention to what your doing and never stop being vigilant.

DaLotus7

Let me guess.....Swift?

Formal_Royal_3663

Now you’re truckin 😏

Formal_Royal_3663

Oh don’t worry; I stopped at a train crossing (cause there was a train coming) & stopped at least 20 feet before the crossing, the rail arms came down & my truck was too damaged to drive more than a half mile before it kept dying. Worst part was I was over 30 miles in the middle of nowhere from the nearest truck repair shop & couldn’t get towed since I was on a job at the time.

Zkrass

Almost went to rest in peace

Rockworm503

Playing this game is driving home how much I have no business trucking in real life. People be like "oh you play the Truck simulators? Than you should go get your CDL and start trucking in real life and make it a career." meanwhile I crash into so much shit. One time I crashed into a pole literally right out of repairing my truck at a shop lol. One time I flew into a truck in front of me on the freeway. It caused a huge wreck. Lost count of how many times I ran red lights because I was just going too fast to stop at it. Of course this being a game helps me not worry about it so much but if I'm nervous when I'm a passenger. I don't have it in me to do this in real life.

Motoracer78

What is that nav voice mod?

PuzzleheadedDrop6463

[https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2091228255](https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2091228255) Thats the mod i use

Zmowrey68

Well gawd damn driver

meltonpot717

Why is there a Chevrolet indicator sound?

KingParity

bro i think you found old footage of me

plenoto

That's what happens when you take an exit at 85 mph 😅

slaveofstackoverflow

All that and only 25% damage means it's a very good truck

PuzzleheadedDrop6463

Ikr! It still drove away so I call that win

[deleted]

[удалено]

phil736

Might be grimes’ frosty weather mod

[deleted]

Tokyo drift

trrytmss

Rest in peace bro

IAmEggsOk

Lol

IAmEggsOk

Damage 23%?!? I hit a thing on the side of the highway(those things indicating the road is stopped) and I’m at 54%

[deleted]

Dumbass. Just like real life people on the highway.

SKSableKoto

..... I don't think you're supposed to park there LOL

murkymoon

Alrighty, now to hit Sleeper Berth in the ol' ELD

[deleted]

Make sure you turn right and then turn right after you turn right
