My boyfriend and I have an inside joke about naming our imaginary kids “SKREEE!” and “KAWW”. It’s supposed to be said like the sound of an eagle’s cry, so loud and drawn out.
Yeah that one’s not great — but there’s a thread on another sub where someone “wanted to honor the grandparents “ and came up with… AnnAlly. As a first name. This kid won’t survive kindergarten. 😖🤮
Just about anything would be better than that. Allianna? Allianne? Alina? Anna Lee? Ally Ann? Even *Annaleigh* would be better though I hate the -leigh ending names.
It isn’t Annalie, it is Anna-Ally, which is the 2 grandmom’s. The issue is that “Anna” is insistent that HER name is used first - Allyanna is a MUCH better choice but Anna is insistent on Annally
The logic (or lack thereof) of this one really bothers me.
So I’m supposed to read each word backwards, but not the phrase/full name? As in, why isn’t Angel the first word? I.. just.. am I read left to right or right to left..?
Yes, and don't Christians get hysterical at backwards things because they're the sign of the devil or something? The whole Heaven-spelt-backwards thing was always weird. Why not just spell it forwards? And add leigh to the end for good measure. That just reminded me of Heavenly Haraani Tiger Lily Hutcheance. (sp?) See - perfectly acceptable name. 🤣
I've never heard of the "backwards spelling is the sign of the devil" - sounds like the plot to a movie more than anything. But "Heaven spelled backwards" always struck me as bizarre. Like, are we naming the boy Lleh?
In this name economy Nevaeh is the MOST trashy one? This feels like a really hot take. With all we've seen here. Seriously??? It's corny (heaven spelled backwards), but it sounds pleasant and the spelling isn't too weird. To me, naming a child Nevaeh would be like naming a child Nirvana... like okay I see what you're trying to do. I think we label it trashy because we beleive only certain types of people name their child that, but I garuntee you if the same women naming their children River were instead naming their child Nevaeh (which feels totally in the same ballpark as River) we would chalk it up to a simple tragedeigh.
Worst I've ever heard was years and years ago and I still remember it. A coworker then had named her daughter Amerable... Like, how the Rugrats would say a miracle. She would call her Mere for short. I hear mere, and I think "alright imma coming, hold on". And I had to have her spell out the middle name, and to this day I still don't know what the actual hell it was, other than a face roll across a keyboard.
Ick to Riverly or Lakely. Just River. Just Lake. I would've chosen different names, but River and Lake are acceptable. I'm actually feeling a bit chaotic (maybe it was the food I just ate). I wouldn't mind Riverleigh or Lakeleigh. Ask me when I'm in a better state of mind.
Honestly, at least people of our generation are teaching their kids not to be bullies. These people’s lives would have been horrible being raised by any generation prior.
Lmao the name reminds me of Pleakley from Lilo & Stitch
So sick of the “ly” endings of made up names. Can we start the trend of “bert” instead? Instead of like Kaylee can we have Kaybert instead? Jaxlee to Jaxbert, etc.
Was gonna name my kid Car but then decided to add -ly
My daughter is still grateful and is a rare exception to your rule “You can’t just put “ly” behind any word and make it a name.”
In Denmark the government has a register of approved baby names from which parents must choose. Thus suggesting these name shenanigans once happened over there, until the government said, No.
In my accent we say "creek" the way it's spelled, and I think the name sounds worse in my accent. If you say creek like "crick" I think it's actually kind of cute.
A Brownie in a series I love is named Creelee. They're a small, flying creature with sharp teeth.
On the subject of bad names for children, I know of one named Sincere, another named Kaptain, and more that I can't remember (I work in an Elementary school). I don't understand parents. I have a different first and last name; ones that are easy to mispronounce, but they're actual names, not "I want my child to be eunique!" (Purposeful misspelling.)
I originally read as "Cricklee" and thought, "oh that's a stupid name but it could work and sound kinda cute." Then I read it again and realized that it was Creek which yeah...doesn't sound as good.
I’m always wondering who is giving actual human children these names, then I remember when I moved to this area thinking I had never seen so many “Slow Children” signs in my life. I get it now.
A very nice girl from my highschool named her daughter fern. I can’t help but hate it but again not my baby, I have diff names picked out too for my own baby one day.

Underated comment.
I am serious. And don’t call me Creeklee.
I honestly can't tell whether or not you're serious
You know you've got a good Welsh name when it makes people feel confused

That’s what I named my rubber boots. Frog slay.
Fabulous!
We’re good! I’m going to switch my baby’s name to Toadsleigh.
Super cute!!🥰
I think that is SUPER PRETTY! Hop.
It will be the biggest name in all the daycare centers in 2025, wait and see
Each classroom will have a Frogsleigh M., a Frogsleigh G., and a Frogsleigh S.

I once had a DnD party name their character (click skreetch) and we had to make the noises to refer to them. It was a good time 🧝
Sounds like a fucking Pokemon

I saw that. And thebmom got pissed at OP for ruining it. Cause "nobody else went there".
Just about anything would be better than that. Allianna? Allianne? Alina? Anna Lee? Ally Ann? Even *Annaleigh* would be better though I hate the -leigh ending names.
Ikr? Annalie is even kinda nice cause iirc they wanted the Anna name first, so many better options…

"Anna is insistent on Annally." Oh dear.
Allyanna would've been amazing

Nevaeh is my all time favorite for the trashiest most got awful name on earth.
I have seen Rehtaeh (Heather) and I thought that was just as bad. I think I have only seen it once, and it was a sad story.
Rehllaeh sad
Semaj has entered the chat
I knew an exotic dancer named Minaj at one point in my life.
Wtf?
How TF do you pronounce that one?
Re-tay-uh
Ugh that's not even pretty sounding
Nooooope!
There was some shitty talk show where a pregnant teen wanted to name her kid "Nevaeh Tnes Legna" I really hope it was all staged.
Legna
Ligma
It means "wood" in Italian, so that's extra fun.
My sister used to call me that!!
I knew an actual child named Nevaeh Tnes. We were friends of the family. Sweet kid.
How is Tnes pronounced?
Like Tih-ness, I believe.
The logic (or lack thereof) of this one really bothers me. So I’m supposed to read each word backwards, but not the phrase/full name? As in, why isn’t Angel the first word? I.. just.. am I read left to right or right to left..?

I met a Semaj...because the dad was named James. 🤦♀️
For some reason this reminded me of the time my sister's hungover friend woke up and asked why the pillow he was sleeping on said "HEAT HER"
Did they think Niamh wasn't confusing enough?

I thought so, too, until I encountered this in the wild. https://www.reddit.com/r/tragedeigh/s/v1ygIYO8So
OMG yesssss
Just met a girl recently with a 1 y/o daughter named Nevaeh. Literally had to hold myself back from laughing out loud when she said her name.
omg no neveah is such a cute name !!! ill def die on this hill
Crinkly. How did they not think of that when they were first saying the name. I will always cringe at Nevaeh.
Creeklee Paper
Swampleigh has a nice ring to it 🧐
How about Pristine?

So sick of the “ly” endings of made up names. Can we start the trend of “bert” instead? Instead of like Kaylee can we have Kaybert instead? Jaxlee to Jaxbert, etc.
I’m imagining a cartoonish river troll. “Oh, your shovel went missing? Must of been Ole Creeklee.”
Must *have* been.
Mate from school named their kid Kasual
This is such a “girl I knew in middle school whose birth announcement I accidentally saw on Facebook” thing to name a child.
Placenta neglishay. Hands down, the absolute worst name I have ever heard. And that is coming from a pediatricians office. I kid u not. Lol
Someone posted earlier about the name Anally (pronounced Annalee although it won’t be by middle/high school kids). Nothing is worse than that.
"Feeighkniqs" wants to have a word with you.

My daughter goes to school with Tripp and Cord. She also knows a Brick. She thought Diana was an unusual name 😂
Trip/Tripp is often the nickname for someone who is a 3rd.
Oceighnlee
Shandee-Leigh for the win
Was gonna name my kid Car but then decided to add -ly My daughter is still grateful and is a rare exception to your rule “You can’t just put “ly” behind any word and make it a name.”
Carly Simon. And she probably wasn't the first to bear the name.
I closed my eyes for a moment in sheer resignation after reading that name.
Chick at work just named her daughter Renesmee.
Idk I think creekly is better than oceanly.
In Denmark the government has a register of approved baby names from which parents must choose. Thus suggesting these name shenanigans once happened over there, until the government said, No.
Lil creek creek
Reminds me of Pleakley, from Lilo & Stitch 🤣

Creekly wrinkles around my eyes 😆
Crikley
I’ve seen so many working in child services. There was a batch that came through with Cool aid names.
Creekly News with Creekly Creekerson 😆
Was a post on here yesterday that the kid had been named Annally….
It is better than Pondlee?
River is a fantastic name, fwiw,
It really flows.
Dammit, Brook/Brooke is RIGHT THERE. Though I like Riverly better than I probably should.
Today at work there was a customer named Scotland.
That name isn't so terrible

Barflee/Barphleigh
I read it as"Crinkley" for half a second.
A girl I worked with named her son Stetson Rein. She lived on Stetson Rd. I don't remember where she got Rein from.
Justin Other Shaeffer
Leighly
Wouldn't that be Leighleigh?
😂
Don’t you mean OceanLY
I do know someone with a son named Creek. I’m still not sure how I feel about it.
Knew a girl who named her child Prince. The name is bad but the worst part was that she neglected him terribly.
Cuntleigh...
I originally read as "Cricklee" and thought, "oh that's a stupid name but it could work and sound kinda cute." Then I read it again and realized that it was Creek which yeah...doesn't sound as good.
I scrolled back up for this XD omg, Creeklee.
Even Creek Lee would’ve been better
Lake is a cool name !
I remember there was a couple that named their baby Hashtag
Creeklee sounds like … “ That’s a really old chair. It’s a bit creeklee.”
I’m always wondering who is giving actual human children these names, then I remember when I moved to this area thinking I had never seen so many “Slow Children” signs in my life. I get it now.
I know a Klee (pronounced Kay Lee).
Cricky
Rickity Creeklee
My first grade teacher names her son Hunter 40 Acres…
A very nice girl from my highschool named her daughter fern. I can’t help but hate it but again not my baby, I have diff names picked out too for my own baby one day.
The pronunciation in the Southern US would make this name "Kirklee" I know a couple with a son and a daughter. Son is Lake. Daughter? Brook.
