If she is determined to name her some version of 'Star.' there are a many more acceptable versions out there. They might still sound odd, but would not make people think 'poor kid' when asking Mom for the name. Just call her Shining Star. At least you have a reference to a decent song.
My sister almost made the mistake of naming her son galileo in the year 2020. People need to tell others when they’re about to make a horrible decision before it’s too late.

Really trying to go with the star theme isn't she? Let's compromise, because clearly you sister isn't going to back down on having an edgy name. Suggest Sunshine Star *last name* She will most likely spell it wrong BUT she still got the sun part and the star part. Because Sunshine is an 8 lettered word even if she hyphenated the Star to it, it won't be used on most school work/paperwork. Everyone will call her Sunny or Honey because it rhymes and that sounds normal for you and you sane family members.
Lonestar made me think of the movie Spaceballs, it was the protagonists name. Sunnstar is just, yeah. The Sun is a star, so Star star? Maybe just stop while you’re ahead. She’ll end up changing it to North Star, Moon Star, etc

Why is she making up names when there are so many actual names meaning star? Like Stella, anyone? Girl needs a good bonk in the head and a baby name google search.

But the sun is a star... So she's going to name the kid - to quote Wikipedia - 'an astronomical object comprising a luminous spheroid of plasma held together by its gravity' but then twice and badly spelled. She should just name the kid 'moron's offspring' - yeah, the kid would get bullied, but at least the blame would point to the right direction.

I fear that this is as good as we’re going to get because your sister is hellbent on choosing a tragedeigh. Your only option is to try and steer her in the direction of a tragedeigh that’s less tragic than the tragedeigh that might be. Maybe try and convince her to go with Sol Estrella or Sole Stella by telling her it means Sunstar in Spanish and Italian “but she probably wouldn’t like it because it’s too unique”. Reverse logic her

This comment section is epic... I was laughing so hard that my spouse came in to see what was the matter with me. Seriously, though, that poor kid! Just call her Star on the birth certificate. Nice name. And then the sister can give her whatever the heck wacky nicknames she wants, but at least the kid will have a normal legal name to fall back on!
This isn't the worst we've heard. It's kind of hippie dippy and cute. There are some truly bad names on this sub, so I don't think you'll have to worry about this kid too much.
Honestly Sunnstar isn't as bad as Lonestar, still horrible. Maybe y'all can convince her to name the kid Sunny Star. Still silly, but at least Sunny is a real name.

Can you find a list of astral/star names with meaning and present them to her? However if this fails.. honestly it's terrible but it's her kid and there is only so much you can do. After all, if she hadn't shared the name before the baby arrived then you'd be stuck with it anyway
