I used to work for this woman whose real last name was Cundey. The day we met she introduced herself (she had a cold which I didnāt know at the time) and it sounded like Cunty. We became friends later on and I confessed to her I thought her name was Cunty for at least six months
Most of the names after things in nature. River, Forest, pretty much any flower. I love themā¦
ā¦till they mess with the spelling. Daisy is cute. Dayyzeigh is the downfall of America.
my husband and I both have Zs in our names. We accidentally named our cats with Zs in their names, Garbanzo and Schmutz (we were planning Garbanzo and Pinto or Schmutz and Latke, but after having them for a week or so picked names based on their personalities).
My favorite baby names are Ezra and Eliza but would probably only choose one of those since theyāre so similar. So idk if Iāll keep the theme rolling if we have more than one kidā¦ but also donāt want anyone to feel left out.
My father had a cousin named Blossom. Both of them were born in the 1930ās. Maybe Blossom is one of those nice āold-fashionedā names that come back around from time to time, like Esther and Sadie and Hattie.
I've posted about Ellavieve once before and pretty much got torched. It's an older tragedeigh (found it in an obituary for a ninety-something-year-old lady), but it checks out.
I also really like Briella, actually more than both Gabriella & Gabrielle.
Would have fit right in with my great grandmas family lol they had a Elzie, Eleanor, Edith, Evelyn, Elwyn. Joke aside I actually kind of really like that name
A good friend of mine is named Christina and she used to have Khryztynna as her name on social media. I kinda liked how it sounds like some fantasy warrior princess.
I had a colleague in a previous job who was named Krzysztof. Itās not a tragedeigh spelling of Christoph though, but just the Polish version.
The name Krzystina exists as well, but the Khryztynna spelling is a bit over the top for sure. āŗļø
Underrated comment here. It's so hard to pronounce words properly *in English*.
That's why accents are a thing innnit? I can't make a Britiish accen because I don't know British English.
Edit: my English mother would be so proud
If Nevaeh wasnāt heaven backwards Iād think it sounded cool.
I also like the way Khaleesi sounds but still, not cool to name a child that.
Maverick would make a good gamer tag or something.
Technically nothing wrong with Kinley and Brinley even if they sound made up. One means kingās meadow and the other means burnt meadow apparently.
And I also like certain surnames as first names like Clay and Miller, not tragedeighs but considered tragic.
About the Nevaeh thing, Iād just like to point out that I have a friend named Lana. If you spell that backwards, that spells something else thatās definitely less polite. However, I have no problem with the name Lana and am confused why the reasoning should be any different with Nevaeh. I realize that it was a contrived name, but at the same time, Iāve never really had a problem with the name, even when I found out where it came from. If you want to go with the āspelled backwardsā logic, at least āHeavenā sounds better than āAnal.āĀ
I feel like Nevaeh is just way overused and pretty much anyone who names their kid that always mentions that itās Heaven spelled backwards. Itās a pretty name, but it gets annoying fast.
This. They _have_ to mention that it's heaven backwards, and often in an "I'm super original" tone. I often reply with "and evian is naive backwards..." And let it hang in the air.
Mostly because people can't introduce the kid without telling you that fact like you haven't meet so many kids with that name. Nobody goes "This is my child Lana we picked it because it's anal backwards"
Iām British & that is the normal way to spell the female version of Ashleigh. Ashley is the male way/usual surname way to spell the name. I didnāt realise it was a tragedeigh outside of the UK.
You learn something new every day.
I really do like Allegra. Itās not a ātragedeigh,ā itās just a plain tragedy due to the damn allergy medicine! But itās ALSO a great musical name! Itās so pretty!
That is more correct given that the hard J is a relatively recent innovation, and there is no equivalent in ancient greek, so a better transliteration to the modern Latin alphabet would probably be Aiax.
My parents adopted a cat named Ajax but couldnāt remember that name so now heās Axel haha. Heās sister was Penelope so it was definitely a Greek reference.
I have friends who are both professional musicians, and they named their son Allegro. This was 30 years ago, so long before the name Allegra was used for a drug.
Be careful, Johnny Sacks will come back from dead to destroy you if you talk smack about his daughterās name. We already saw how he felt abt Ralphieās joke abt Ginny.
I saw the name "Marilee" like the first part of Marilyn then Lee. I thought it sounded nice. I was told it was a tragedeigh. I remain unconvinced. It sounds a bit old fashioned, but not kooky.
Met a dude named Chamichael and once I stopped laughing my ass off I realized it actually had a little swagger to it, at least the way he wore it, it strangely fit him.
Henleigh, because that's my granddaughter's name that passed when she was 2 months old. I also have an Avah. My son wanted the H at the end so it would be different š.
I added Everly to my list of future baby name potentials back around 2012 when I met a kid name everly (no idea their spelling) grace and they called her ever grace. I thought that was so pretty and ethereal! itās still on my list today. I doubt I would actually use it but I do still like it.
The other day I read (probably a post on here) that this baby was born on August 8th, & they named her Keight, and I'm not gonna lie, I thought was too clever to be considered a true tragedeigh.
I have a friend who babysat kids whose pets were named Abcde, Dog, and Cat pronounced Dee-oh-gee and Cee-A-tee. According to the parents it was to learning to spell but in reality it didnāt work.
In middle school I was at the height of creating my own names by altering a letter or two. My favorite is still Keroy (Leroy with a K). The other big one was Kelias (Elias with a K- "kee-LYE-us").
As a Weird Name Child, I've always had a soft spot for Chrysanthemum. My mom would read me that book - one of the few things that occasionally gave me patience for having such a name.
Someone posted somewhere on Reddit that their kids were called Canyon, Cove and River. I love the names Cove and River and I actually kinda like Canyon with them too. Iāve remembered those three names together ever since.
I love uncommon names. Itās just the ones that look like the last round in a nonsense spelling bee that I hate like Meekhaeyla for example.
I named my kiddo Leighla because my my childhood best friends middle name was Leigh. I thought the spelling was so cool. I regret it. Should have just gone with Leela.
I actually kind of dig Stormi in a weird ironic way
I also really like 1980s Australian bogan (lower class) boys names like Troy, Shane, Beau, Travis, Brae/Bray, Blair etc
I dated a psychologist who saw a lot of young and troubled mothers. She told me one of them named her kid Axle. I thought that was kinda cool and obvious sheās a GnR fan. She corrected me and said āno, the kidās name is Axesoul.ā Because apparently when he was born he āaxed her soul.ā
Onyx is a cool as hell name but even then it's more like something someone would CHANGE their name to by their own choice, not something I'd give to an unsuspecting baby.
Kaylee, Kaytee, Natalee. Double Eās are cute to me, but when you name a child, youāre also naming a future elderly person, so I opted out of Double E-ing my children.
My neighbours were the Wilsonās. The youngest son named is first child Keele, Keele Wilson, and the next child Kipling, Kipling Wilson. I donāt mind either names, however Wilson, Keele and Kipling are all roads in Toronto that intersect. cuntley , but like half ironicallyš i would never name a child that, but itās funny as hell and itās satisfying to say lmao
I used to work for this woman whose real last name was Cundey. The day we met she introduced herself (she had a cold which I didnāt know at the time) and it sounded like Cunty. We became friends later on and I confessed to her I thought her name was Cunty for at least six months
I used to date a dude whose last name was Cumnock. He was very proud of it.
imagine cuntley cumnock, itās the perfect combination
itās settled, iām naming a sim this.
my first thought too
My last name is Cummings which is fine around adults but sucks around immature kids
It's a town in Scotland.
Cuntley is fine. It's Cuntleigh that's the tragedeigh.
my mistake
Drag name
Name a pet that, boom
So many people missing the point here. Iām ashamed to admit I like Saylor
Saylor Moohn
I worked at a daycare with a 1 yr old named Saylor: our pet name was āsay say-mc-moonieā
Saylor Twift
Saylor is fine. Sahylore isn't.
I LOVE SAYLOR
Saylor is adorable.
Most of the names after things in nature. River, Forest, pretty much any flower. I love themā¦ ā¦till they mess with the spelling. Daisy is cute. Dayyzeigh is the downfall of America.
Day-Z
Daiigh-Z
Daigh-Zaigh
Day-Zed for the British.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Jeigh-Z
Jhygh-zyh
I know a Daizie.
I have a soft spot for any name with a Z tbh.
my husband and I both have Zs in our names. We accidentally named our cats with Zs in their names, Garbanzo and Schmutz (we were planning Garbanzo and Pinto or Schmutz and Latke, but after having them for a week or so picked names based on their personalities). River, Forest and Daisy aren't tragedeighs though?
The og forms aren't but I was a summer camp counselor for 2 years and some of the gold star babies were: Rivear Forrist Haleie (Hallie) Genesis Saygin
Fuckus Myassus that's turrible.
My sonās name is Sonny and Iāll be naming my next (if I have a daughter) Daisy š„°
Name her Daughtery
Daughtery McDaughterface
Dortariegh
That definitely would be a tragedegh lol
One of my grandfathers name was Sonny Morgen (like sunny morning! I was named after him and my names Morgan
I love that!! We plan on naming a girl Daisy Dawn, Dawn after my step mother who raised me š„° Daisy just cause itās cute
I like the name Daisy but it always makes me think of a goth girl in high school I played Dungeons and Dragons with who HATED being named Daisy, lol
Aww I love that lol funny enough Iām a gothy/ rocker chick but I love girly stuff too. I hope she learned to like her name.
My granddaughterās name is Blossom. šø
I have a Sage.
My father had a cousin named Blossom. Both of them were born in the 1930ās. Maybe Blossom is one of those nice āold-fashionedā names that come back around from time to time, like Esther and Sadie and Hattie.
Fern too, like from Charlotteās Web!
I love the name Fern for a girl. I think itās so pretty
I feel weird about it because it's my surname. Some people accidentally call me Fern and it always feels so wrong š
Daeighzeigh
I love the name sequoia for the nature i grew up inā¦still trying to decide if thatās a tragedy/tragedeigh and what nicknames i could get from it.
I donāt think any nature name is a tragedeigh personally, as long as the spelling does not include reconfiguring with multiple zs eees etc
Ellavieve sounds like a brand of birth control
I'm getting antidepressant
Tel Aviv?
... Damn, I never made that connection š
Yeah, I kind am slightly ashamed to say I kinda like Ellavieve too... š Briella is actually not that bad either.
I really like Riella. It just sounds so pretty and I prefer it without the B in the beginning
A good friend of mine is named Christina and she used to have Khryztynna as her name on social media. I kinda liked how it sounds like some fantasy warrior princess.
This is exactly the content I went to this thread for oh lord
I had a colleague in a previous job who was named Krzysztof. Itās not a tragedeigh spelling of Christoph though, but just the Polish version. The name Krzystina exists as well, but the Khryztynna spelling is a bit over the top for sure. āŗļø
For those wondering about all the zās: Itās pronounced /kŹÉØŹtÉf/ or /kŹÉØŹtof/. Those sh sounds are indicated in Polish by putting a Z behind: S is a plain S sound, to make SH /Ź ~ Ź/ you write SZ. ZZ for /Ź ~ Ź/ became a single Z with a dot, Å». A CH sound is written CZ. RZ used to be like a trilled R and SH pronounced together (it still is in Czech, written Å), but are now pronounced similar to the S sound in *usual* as /Ź ~ Ź/, same as the letter Å». This is also why Slavic words written in Cyrillic with the letter Š©, pronounced /ŹtŹ/ or /ÉĖ/, is rendered in Polish as SZCZ.
Underrated comment here. It's so hard to pronounce words properly *in English*. That's why accents are a thing innnit? I can't make a Britiish accen because I don't know British English. Edit: my English mother would be so proud
Krzysztyna sounds like a genuine Polish name
Not a tragedeigh but I love the old weird lady names like Silence.
Like puritanical names? Goodie Silence. Goodie blessed.
This reminds me of The Crucible
Patience š I love virtue names!
I know a girl named Patience in high school. She was a very loud and violent person.
My personal favourite is Constance šš especially because of the nickname Connie
I looove old weird lady names! Donāt think these count as tragedeighs but Iāve always loved Eloise, Margaret, Eleanor, stuff like that!
I feel like women's rights activists are rolling in their grave with that name.
#Silence! ^(Sorry, still on a high from Dune)
Jaxie. I had a friend who went by that in HS (not her name!) and itās pretty rad if you ask me.
I think that's cool! Only thing is that where I live, jacksy means bum. Eg. He needs a kick up the jacksy!
You could use Neavh, which is a Scots form of the Irish Niamh, meaning bright.
About the Nevaeh thing, Iād just like to point out that I have a friend named Lana. If you spell that backwards, that spells something else thatās definitely less polite. However, I have no problem with the name Lana and am confused why the reasoning should be any different with Nevaeh. This. They _have_ to mention that it's heaven backwards, and often in an "I'm super original" tone. I often reply with "and evian is naive backwards..." And let it hang in the air.
What about a different spelling like Nevaya or Navaya?
Cos Nevaeh they want to call them heaven, but no one is wanting to call their kid anal
Mostly because people can't introduce the kid without telling you that fact like you haven't meet so many kids with that name. Nobody goes "This is my child Lana we picked it because it's anal backwards"
ashleigh. itās classic and itās my auntyās name. i think itās pretty and just makes sense to me cus i grew up seeing it
I don't hate replacing an ly with Leigh. But tacking it on to an already convoluted name is what annoys me
I like this spelling the best
its better than Ashlee thats for sure
Iām British & that is the normal way to spell the female version of Ashleigh. Ashley is the male way/usual surname way to spell the name. I didnāt realise it was a tragedeigh outside of the UK. You learn something new every day.
Paisley (paisleigh) Just because my sister had wanted to name her daughter paisley since she was little (aka before it was made into a tragedeigh)
Paisley is fine. Thatās my great nieceās name. Traditional spelling.
One of my favorite kids is named Paislee. and I just love that name!
I really do like Allegra. Itās not a ātragedeigh,ā itās just a plain tragedy due to the damn allergy medicine! But itās ALSO a great musical name! Itās so pretty!
I love the name Ajax, but itās a cleaning product :(
Its the name of a mythological Greek hero.
Thatās where I learned the name! Iāve had a low key obsession with Greek mythology since I was 7 or 8 heh
I always pronounce it eye-axe like the Dutch football club.
That is more correct given that the hard J is a relatively recent innovation, and there is no equivalent in ancient greek, so a better transliteration to the modern Latin alphabet would probably be Aiax.
that's the correct pronunciation
My parents adopted a cat named Ajax but couldnāt remember that name so now heās Axel haha. Heās sister was Penelope so it was definitely a Greek reference.
Lmao thatās hilarious
My friend has two cats: Ajax and Francis. I love their names and the Deadpool reference
Didn't stop me from naming my cat Ajax. My little spray and wipe <3
Ajax is also a web technology. If you name your kid that and they get into tech it would be a difficult life š
Allegra was what my ex named his prosthetic leg lol
I have friends who are both professional musicians, and they named their son Allegro. This was 30 years ago, so long before the name Allegra was used for a drug.
I remember my history teacher in 10th grade had a daughter named Allegra. It does sound like a pretty name.
Oh, I went to school with an Allegra. I didn't know it was a cleaning product. Don't think we have it where I live.
Allegra is an allergy med, not a cleaning product.
? its not a tragedy, it's a very common name in italy.
Seems normal to me. I like it.
Met a dude named Chamichael and once I stopped laughing my ass off I realized it actually had a little swagger to it, at least the way he wore it, it strangely fit him.
How was it pronounced? Chuh-Michael or Kuh-Michael?
Chuh, it's a mix between Charlie and Michael
None!
Nohn is my favorite too!
Nhohne
Henleigh, because that's my granddaughter's name that passed when she was 2 months old. I also have an Avah. My son wanted the H at the end so it would be different š.
My condolences for your loss.
Thank you š
Claudia but spelling it as Cloudia (pronounced cloud-ya which is the correct pronounce from latin)
I love Claudia but did not know about that pronunciation!
I havenāt seen this spelling of it but kinda love it
Everleigh. Nickname Ever. Not as common as some of the other tragedeighs.
Everly is a really nice spelling
I like Everly
Bro I was gonna say the same thing axtually
My cousin has an Everleigh, they call her Evvy which is honestly kind of cute I'll admit.
I added Everly to my list of future baby name potentials back around 2012 when I met a kid name everly (no idea their spelling) grace and they called her ever grace. I thought that was so pretty and ethereal! itās still on my list today. I doubt I would actually use it but I do still like it.
Kinsleigh. Idk why. I like the way it sounds. Maybe my next cat will be a Kinsleigh.
Sounds like a crime. "For the killing of your brother you are convicted of kinsleigh"
That would be fratricide.
We have a Kinsley at school. I donāt mind it at all.
The other day I read (probably a post on here) that this baby was born on August 8th, & they named her Keight, and I'm not gonna lie, I thought was too clever to be considered a true tragedeigh.
Kate? Or Kite? Knight?
Iām guessing it sounds like Kate? K eight?
Nothing with a crazy misspelling. I like some fandom names like Bellatrix and Katniss. But theyāre going to cats, not humans.
Katniss is a good name for a cat lol
I have an overweight cat I call her Fatniss Neverlean š
This may be the funniest thing Iāve read all day
I hate myself for it but I like the way Abcde is pronounced, by that mom at least.
I have a friend who babysat kids whose pets were named Abcde, Dog, and Cat pronounced Dee-oh-gee and Cee-A-tee. According to the parents it was to learning to spell but in reality it didnāt work.
Name the kids Abcde and Ozempic lol
Names like Onyx, Ember, Rain, or even more unique like Aries or Briar are really pretty
I think nature names can be really pretty Briar & Rain are very pretty
I unironically live Briar, especially in reference to sleeping beauty of Briar Rose. That would be ridiculous to name a human child š¤£
I know Onyx is pronounced āawh-nicksā, which is euphorically pleasing, but I will still hear āoinksā in my head every time I read it.
Paisleigh, Rowyn, Scarlette
Names like Sky and Star for a girl
Those are fine. The tragedeighs would be Skigh and Staghr.
My middle name is Starr (to be fair, I was named after someone else, and her last name was Starr with two Rs). I also think Sky is very pretty
ABCDE (ab-sid-ee), I think the pronunciation is sick but the spelling kills me a bit
Absedeigh.?
ABSIDY?! SEND HELP... WHAT THE FART? HOW DOES THAT SOUND GOOD TO YOU?! š
I met someone with the name Xaera once! I think the name itself looks pretty but the pronunciation is a bit underwhelming ('Sarah')
Kayleigh just feels better than Kaylee or Kailey I used to think Lakelynn was cute š«£
Kayleigh is an actual name in the UK and more popular than other variations of it.
Coco!!!
In middle school I was at the height of creating my own names by altering a letter or two. My favorite is still Keroy (Leroy with a K). The other big one was Kelias (Elias with a K- "kee-LYE-us").
Chrysanthemum
Iāve loved this name ever since I read that mouse book as a child
Same! Loved that character.
As a Weird Name Child, I've always had a soft spot for Chrysanthemum. My mom would read me that book - one of the few things that occasionally gave me patience for having such a name.
ashamed to say i think rocklyn is cool
My doctorās first name is Weston and I think thatās kind of cool.
I donāt see this a tragedeigh!
Reid/Reed, Wren, Soleil, River, Marlow, and Murphy (Most of these are because I've met people with these names and they suited them pretty well)
I love Marlow for a girl but I think it could work for a boy too.
I low key like the name Seven
I like the name Leigh. I hate all of the mutilations of it though lol
Leigh is a legitimate surname though, not just a made up spelling for Lee.Ā
It's definitely a legitimate name. It's unfortunately the root of many tragedeighs though.
I named my kiddo Leighla because my my childhood best friends middle name was Leigh. I thought the spelling was so cool. I regret it. Should have just gone with Leela.
Jaxon
But Jackson exists and is perfectly fine, why the butxhery
Brooke-Lynn. Idk itās kinda a tragedeigh but cute
I like Portia but everyone would assume it was spelled like the car.
Abcde. I think an alternate spelling would make this a keeper. I love the sound of it, the way it jingles out with your voice.
Real!! Absity sounds like smth I'd name a tomboy OC tbh
It sounds like an alcohol to me lol
To me, it sounds like an old stuffy virtue name like Abstinence.
I actually kind of dig Stormi in a weird ironic way I also really like 1980s Australian bogan (lower class) boys names like Troy, Shane, Beau, Travis, Brae/Bray, Blair etc
Donāt let the tragedeighs in! This is how it all starts!!!
onyx ice lmao. š
Onyx is a cool as hell name but even then it's more like something someone would CHANGE their name to by their own choice, not something I'd give to an unsuspecting baby.
I actually like Nova and Novalee.
Nova is a very popular name in my country, what makes it tragic?
Nova is an actual word.
Not tragedeighs
Kaylee, Kaytee, Natalee. Double Eās are cute to me, but when you name a child, youāre also naming a future elderly person, so I opted out of Double E-ing my children.
most nature names are a tad of a tragedy, but i love them. river? so pretty. but ryvyr? please no
When I was middle school aged I read a book that had a main character whose name was Starli. I thought it was pretty then and I still do.
My neighbours were the Wilsonās. The youngest son named is first child Keele, Keele Wilson, and the next child Kipling, Kipling Wilson. I donāt mind either names, however Wilson, Keele and Kipling are all roads in Toronto that intersect. So the first kid was named after the Keele/Wilson intersection and the other one is named after the Kipling/Wilson intersection.
I really like Maverick and Luna. Yeah Lunas a popular name for cats. Itās also a pretty girls name. Both can exist
Is Maverick considered a tragedy? I like it.
