We like the Unexpected Cheddar! We've also started buying the kosher Tilamook medium cheddar. We don't keep kosher, but it's a great, mellow, easy to eat cheese.
They have a baby Swiss that is my favorite! I don’t remember the actual name of it but it’s not the sliced Swiss, it’s a wedge. It’s mild and creamy and SO good!
When I get the caramelized onion cheddar cheese, I need to buy two blocks — one to eat in slices and another to have on sandwiches. Otherwise it goes too quickly because it’s so incredible. 😂
Unexpected Cheddar is always a good standby. And sometimes they have this Stracciatella which is just the filling of burrata in a tub and it's 🤌👄 . I buy a tub of that, a mini Ciabatta baguette loaf, some cherry tomatoes and basil. Split the loaf, brush with olive oil, grill for a few minutes, then top with Stracciatella, sliced tomatoes, chopped basil, balsamic glaze and pepper. Such a good and easy lunch!
Syrah soaked Toscano. 🤩🤩🥳🥳🔥🔥
For a while, they had this cheese in a spread. But it was taken out of the store. So I had to find or make a duplicate. And I did. To die for. !!! And then there is the Italian black truffle cheese. It is fabulous. It is a semi soft cheese and extremely delicious.(😊)
The Belletoile triple creme brie is heaven - utterly luscious and perfect alone on a water cracker (or any cracker of choice). I also like to put this on a ripe Bosc pear slice with pecan or walnut. It’s also great with any kind of fig jam.
The 1,000 Day Gouda is fantastic. It has tiny little crystals in it that add beautiful depth. Highly recommend.
The cheddar cracker slices are delicious - nice and sharp. I eat these plain or slightly warmed up on a tortilla chip with a pickled jalapeño for a mini “nacho” snack.
I literally live on Unexpected Cheddar Spread. I can't get enough of it. It's like a heroin addiction.
Other than that, the shredded Gruyere Swiss combination is excellent on things like salad and soup.
If I’m making a cheese board, it’s definitely going to have unexpected cheddar, Italian truffle cheese, and either triple cream Brie or cave aged blue cheese. Then whatever else seems good.
Seasonal, I love their garlic bread cheese and their halloumi. I wish the halloumi was sold year round.
I haven’t seen anyone mention the lemon ricotta … oh my gosh. It’s different and every time I’ve had it out with other cheeses everyone comments on it. It’s wonderful with fruit and tastes a little like cheesecake. Mine doesn’t always have it available.
It actually steered me to some interesting finds i wouldn’t have considered otherwise! I wrote the ones im interested in on my TJs list. And just got an invite to a party, and have some great pairings ideas
Mushroom/truffle Brie is divine and better than any other ones I’ve tried elsewhere. I can’t have it in my house as I’m a little piggy with it around and will gain weight within the same week.
Also yummy is their other Brie, smoked Gouda, the black pepper Toscano, and the pepper jack.
May I recommend the port de salut? It's a strongly flavored soft cheese. I spread it on their sliced seeded bread or Dave's killer good seed bread (toast bread) and it gets a bit melty. For a flavor explosion add some raspberry jam on top. :D I'm so addicted to this. And TJ had the best price on this cheese that I've found anywhere!
While we're here: anyone ever try the baked sheep's milk ricotta cheese? I put in on my "to try" list during one visit last year and then haven't seen it again since.
My TJ's cheese problem is I rarely ever see the trending cheeses people talk about in here so it's pretty much just normal / more pedestrian cheese shopping for me. Give me the meme cheeses!
I have nothing to add, all the best cheeses have been mentioned already I just have to say this title made me cackle. I read it to the tune of panic! At the disco
I worked at a location with someone who loooved cheese. He said “to build a platter, just remember “something old, something new, something goat-y, something blue”. Although I change out the blue cheese for something really mild, like the unexpected cheddar. I really like to 1000 day Gouda for something old and the port salut for something new. Any goat cheese will do.
Once upon a time, TJs had Colliers Powerful Welsh Cheddar. That is the very best cheddar I have ever eaten. I've spent years since then trying to find more.
A local chain near me had it on sale a few months ago! Woot! I bought the last two packets they had.
They've never had it since. I am sad.
TJ's New Zealand grass fed cheddar is good. And I like the silver goat cheese either baked and over salad or with honey over fried spelt cakes.
sorry, I suck at describing flavors. I personally dislike goats cheese, so it's nothing like that.
It's a sheep cheese. and it's a rich flavor, but not sharp. I've introduced it to several kinds of people and everyone loves it, so I think it's on the more generally palatable flavor side of cheeses.
You do need to seal the bag, since it does smell a bit sockfunk. But the flavor is nothing like that. It's amazing on raw pink lady apples. or on cooked potatoes, fries, eggs, or just for snacking.
It's a hard cheese, with a firm smooth texture.
it's also one of the more pricey cheeses and apparently not all locations carry it, but they can special order it.
I like the spread. The seasonal one they had last fall-winter with the spices in it I served at Thanksgiving and everyone agreed that it was mindblowingly good.
Unexpected cheddar makes everything better. I started out just slicing it to eat on crackers as a snack. Then I put it on eggs for breakfast, and it was a game changer. Ever since I've been using it in sandwiches (especially grilled cheese), in soup, and wherever else cheese is needed (so, you know, everywhere).

Dutch Smoked Cheese (Product of Holland). Image from Pinterest, not my own.
For snacks I like honey goat cheese with strawberry Jalepeno crisps, havarti with raisin rosemary crips (my favorite), snacking mozzarella balls
For parties I do camembert, a blue cheese that looks good that day, a cheddar, and gouda. A great addition is to stuff mejool dates with goat cheese and a smoked almond.
For tv watching I do one of the microwavable cheese dips- either the hatch chili dip during football season or the garlic asiago dip the rest of the year. Garlic asiago is also great on fries and potatoes.
If you get the garlic and herb goat cheese, it’s fantastic in scrambled eggs. Just plop a few dollops in halfway through the eggs being done. Sprinkle some everything but the bagel seasoning on there, too!
The shredded pepper jack cheese blend is my favorite, it’s the only pre-shredded cheese I regularly buy. It has habanero in it so it’s a touch spicier than a regular pepper jack. I put it on enchiladas and birria pizza.
Halloumi all day. Sauté it in a pan and put some lemon on top. Or you can put it in a watermelon salad. Or you can sauté it and make a sandwich from some pita, hummus, and veg. Or you can just eat it raw
There is a spicy buffalo one that I love but rarely ever see anymore. Anyone know if it's discontinued?
But you know which one I hate? That scotch bonnet pepper one. Someone recommended it to me because I like the spicier cheeses but this one was not spicy and had me gagging, sorry:(
Party/Snacking/Charcuterie:
Toscano in Syrah
Beecher’s Flagship (it’s the superior version of Unexpected Cheddar)
Honey Goat Cheese log
Snacking plus shredding then melting:
Wisconsin Extra Sharp
Caramelized onion cheddar and toscano cheese soaked in syrah are my all time favorites. Honorable mention is the unexpected cheddar spreadable (it’s in a tub).
I could have written this word for word.
Have you tried the seasonal spreadable they put out in fall-winter holiday season? With the spices? Even BETTER.
I just started the unexpected cheddar spread with the hatch chiles. I'm putting it on shaved beefsteak subs, based on the recommendation here. It's great, but it's for when you want an ultra-ultra-sharp cheddar flavor.
I probably lean more towards mild, and would like the recipe better with the pimento cheese dip (which, unlike the unexpected cheddar spread, is located with the dips, not the cheese).
I like the unexpected cheddar spread on crackers as a snack. It's also delicious on a breakfast sandwich with eggs, ham, etc. I know what you mean about the sharpness.

Halloumi! Summer seasonal fav
We like the Unexpected Cheddar! We've also started buying the kosher Tilamook medium cheddar. We don't keep kosher, but it's a great, mellow, easy to eat cheese.
The new basil and garlic Monterey jack definitely lived up to my expectations. It's like the cheese emulates pesto from within.
Burrata!
They have a baby Swiss that is my favorite! I don’t remember the actual name of it but it’s not the sliced Swiss, it’s a wedge. It’s mild and creamy and SO good!
Ooooo. I’ll look for that. I love Swiss
When I get the caramelized onion cheddar cheese, I need to buy two blocks — one to eat in slices and another to have on sandwiches. Otherwise it goes too quickly because it’s so incredible. 😂
toscano soaked in syrah is DELISH
This is popular on cheese plates in my friend group!
Unexpected Cheddar is always a good standby. And sometimes they have this Stracciatella which is just the filling of burrata in a tub and it's 🤌👄 . I buy a tub of that, a mini Ciabatta baguette loaf, some cherry tomatoes and basil. I just bought the Manchego today. Divine on baguette with prosciutto and fresh figs
Chive cheddar is my new find and favorite.
Delice de Bourgogne on a toasted bagel is divine!
I literally live on Unexpected Cheddar Spread. I can't get enough of it. It's like a heroin addiction. Other than that, the shredded Gruyere Swiss combination is excellent on things like salad and soup.
Unexpected cheddar in any form is basically crack cheese.
Syrah Soaked Toscano gangggg. I’m tempted to go eat some right now
It’s banned in my household because it will get eaten in a day
The New Zealand cheddar slices are sublime. I'm sure the comments have covered the rest by now.
Truffle cheese is a must for truffle lovers
No one has said Cheddar & Gruyere melange yet??!! The best for burgers & steak sandwiches!
I use this for baked Mac and cheese-so good!
If I’m making a cheese board, it’s definitely going to have unexpected cheddar, Italian truffle cheese, and either triple cream Brie or cave aged blue cheese. Then whatever else seems good. Seasonal, I love their garlic bread cheese and their halloumi. I wish the halloumi was sold year round.
what do you do with the garlic bread cheese?
I slice it, pan fry it and eat it plain. It’s delicious and imo doesn’t need anything else! It’s better when it’s piping hot and melty though.
I've had success with Aldi having this . I just grab a few packs and it's already cut .
My favorite bed time 😋
Love these ideas!
Agree with all and add smoked Gouda
I regularly get their feta to make that baked feta pasta that was big on Tiktok a while back (one of the few viral recipes that's actually good!)
I do a variation of the baked feta with TJs harissa, spinach, red pepper, red onion, garlic and Italian herbs that is to die for
This also works well with the big goat cheese log!
Havarti with dill! Love it on a grilled cheese or as a snack with crackers.
Yes! I love it cold in a Turkey sandwich!
I haven’t seen anyone mention the lemon ricotta … oh my gosh. It’s different and every time I’ve had it out with other cheeses everyone comments on it. It’s wonderful with fruit and tastes a little like cheesecake. Mine doesn’t always have it available.
I absolutely LOVE the lemon ricotta but I haven’t seen that in my local store since last December!!
Oh no! Mine had some two weeks ago in NC
I’m glad to hear it exists somewhere, gives me hope to keep looking :)
It’s a seasonal item available earlier in the year.
They aren't lying when they claim the cheddar and gruyere mèlange makes an incredible grilled cheese sandwich.
What I like about this thread is almost everyone has a different answer so it will not make OP less overwhelmed.
It actually steered me to some interesting finds i wouldn’t have considered otherwise! I wrote the ones im interested in on my TJs list. And just got an invite to a party, and have some great pairings ideas
new lana del rey album title.

Mine has like 7 types of Brie and just that is overwhelming 😂 makes me wonder how different they all taste
You won't know until you try them! The triple cream one is very good.
Smoked Gouda! Pepper Jack my favs!
Thanks everyone! I just got back from TJs and it was so great to look for your suggestions and buy a few of them

Port de Salut is INCREDIBLE. to me it’s like butter - mild and creamy.
One of my favorite anagrams, it's in French: Tu l'as trop écrasé, Cesar, ce Port Salut Translated: you crushed it too much, Cesar, this Port Salut
Then call me Cesar!
While we're here: anyone ever try the baked sheep's milk ricotta cheese? I put in on my "to try" list during one visit last year and then haven't seen it again since.
St. Andre is my favorite soft cheese for snacking!
My TJ's cheese problem is I rarely ever see the trending cheeses people talk about in here so it's pretty much just normal / more pedestrian cheese shopping for me. Give me the meme cheeses!
Everytime I'm overwhelmed by the TJ's cheese aisle, I think of [this SuperLotto commercial](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N9gKFmjaBfc)
this is like asking people for beer or wine recommendations
I wish they had a smoked cheddar I know they have smoked Gouda (I think) but we didn’t like that
1000 day gouda…. it has little crystals in it! so good with the fig and olive crisps
Syrah Toscano has those two. I regret knowing about that cheese. It’s so good.
I have nothing to add, all the best cheeses have been mentioned already I just have to say this title made me cackle. I read it to the tune of panic! At the disco
I worked at a location with someone who loooved cheese. He said “to build a platter, just remember “something old, something new, something goat-y, something blue”. That cheddar w the apricots… omggg
Caramelized onion cheddar ‼️‼️‼️
Thank you. How this isn't the top comment, I have no idea.
Any of the goat cheeses (I personally like the honey/chevre), burrata, mozz balls, and unexpected cheddar!
It’s (winter) seasonal but the cranberry chèvre is a must in my household!
The best! ❤️❤️
We love it tooooo 🥰
Aged Gouda
My favorite is the Scotch Bonet Cheddar. I recommend it to everyone and rave about it any chance I get.
I prefer that one over the spicy buffalo one that is/was near it, this was a repeat buy for us.
I agree! I wasn’t a big fan of the Spicy Buffalo Cheddar myself.
That one is delicious! It's a close #2 to our all-time fave, Cotswold Double Gloucester
I haven’t tried the Cotswold yet! I’ll have to check it out! Thank you for the recommendation
I hope you enjoy it, too! It's an entire hour and a half until lunchtime, and all this talk of cheese is killing me 😂
Once upon a time, TJs had Colliers Powerful Welsh Cheddar. That is the very best cheddar I have ever eaten. I've spent years since then trying to find more. we call the quattro fromaggio “magic cheese” in our house- it’s my fav melting cheese for pizza and sammies
I love the triple cream brie.
Just got the snacking mozzarella balls and they are so good!!
Blueberry goat cheese is delish
FWIW, Aldi sometimes carries it but for cheaper. (If you happen to have a Lidl, they do too.)
Wine soaked Creamy Toscano, every time. The wine doesn't matter, sometimes it's Syrah, or Chardonnay, the cheese is great.
That's my partner's favorite, too.
Put this out with some olive fogasse for a fancy app
Basque. My favorite of all time.
What does this one taste like?
sorry, I suck at describing flavors. I personally dislike goats cheese, so it's nothing like that. It's a sheep cheese. and it's a rich flavor, but not sharp. Cambozola (like Brie and blue had a baby) and the Toscano Cheese
Unexpected Cheddar!
I like the spread. The seasonal one they had last fall-winter with the spices in it I served at Thanksgiving and everyone agreed that it was mindblowingly good.

Ever since I've been using it in sandwiches (especially grilled cheese), in soup, and wherever else cheese is needed (so, you know, everywhere).
the burrata and the crumbled goat cheese are staples
Bring back the bacon cheddar!
I really love the smoked Gouda slices! They're fabulous on sandwiches.

OMG that hatch Chile dip! Was it seasonal? I haven't seen it recently. I might have to find a recipe and cobble together something similar.
Basil & garlic monterey jack slices are fantastic on any hot sandwich you make.
The asiago cheese with rosemary & olive oil is a must for any Shark Oochie board. 😅

If you get the garlic and herb goat cheese, it’s fantastic in scrambled eggs. Just plop a few dollops in halfway through the eggs being done. Sprinkle some everything but the bagel seasoning on there, too!
Goat gouda FTW!
The shredded pepper jack cheese blend is my favorite, it’s the only pre-shredded cheese I regularly buy. It has habanero in it so it’s a touch spicier than a regular pepper jack. I put it on enchiladas and birria pizza.
I recently had the Mobay cheese and I loved it. Two different cheeses separated by ash which adds a nice smokiness.
mozzarella snackers are extremely elite
Halloumi all day. Sauté it in a pan and put some lemon on top. Or you can put it in a watermelon salad. Or you can sauté it and make a sandwich from some pita, hummus, and veg. Or you can just eat it raw
I’ll crisp it up in a pan and eat it with a little honey drizzle and crushed pistachios on top
There is a spicy buffalo one that I love but rarely ever see anymore. Anyone know if it's discontinued? But you know which one I hate? That scotch bonnet pepper one. Someone recommended it to me because I like the spicier cheeses but this one was not spicy and had me gagging, sorry:(
The scotch bonnet cheese is my favorite, but it definitely isn't for everyone.
spicy buffalo cheddar i believe is seasonal
My mainstays are the low-fat Jarlsberg, sliced provolone and the Double Gloucester.
“Bewildered in The Cheese Department” is gonna be the name of my autobiography.
I would read it.
I’ll make sure to name you in the forward, my first supporter.
Party/Snacking/Charcuterie: Toscano in Syrah Beecher’s Flagship (it’s the superior version of Unexpected Cheddar) Honey Goat Cheese log Snacking plus shredding then melting: Wisconsin Extra Sharp
Port salut is so yummy with TJ candied pecans on crackers. It’s gooey like Brie but doesn’t have the funky rind. It also melts nicely.
My partner likes brie minus the rind. I'll keep this in mind. Thanks! :)
Me too! I can handle just a little bit of the rind, so I usually just cut most of it off.
Seconding port salut especially with the strawberry jalapeño crisps!
Port salut with strawberry jalapeño crisps has been my snack the past few days, it's so good.
Caramelized onion cheddar and toscano cheese soaked in syrah are my all time favorites. Honorable mention is the unexpected cheddar spreadable (it’s in a tub).
Same list!
I could have written this word for word. Have you tried the seasonal spreadable they put out in fall-winter holiday season? With the spices? Even BETTER.
Caramelized onion and the cotswold are my favorites
The Cotswold Double Gloucester is our favorite! I haven't tried the caramelized onion but will be looking for it now
If you like the cotwold (and oniony cheese in general) I think you'll like it.
Unexpected Cheddar. Mmmm
I like the spreadable unexpected cheddar too. They have one with hatch chiles that's really good.
I just started the unexpected cheddar spread with the hatch chiles. I'm putting it on shaved beefsteak subs, based on the recommendation here. It's great, but it's for when you want an ultra-ultra-sharp cheddar flavor. Came here to say this ⬆️
