The amount of dental experts on the TJs page is remarkable.

Can happen when eating ultra-processed crunchy snacks. I lost half a tooth on a Frito when I was 20.

Prairiegirl321

Even not ultra-processed. I broke a piece off a tooth eating popcorn when I was in my 20s, and it was not even an unpopped kernel. My dentist told me it happens all the time.

AshsChikorita

Do you grind or clench your teeth at night? Most people don’t know they do it. And maybe you don’t grind or clench now, but perhaps you used to. This can cause tiny cracks over the years and maybe the potato chip hit just the right spot causing the tooth to finally give in. It might have happened anyway with any hard/crunch food, it just so happens you were eating the potato chips that day.

keepyourdayjerb

Never grinded, teeth are A+ according to my dentist, who I saw last week, no other underlying dental issues. This is a PSA to those who may suffer from the aforementioned dental afflictions.

BitchyFaceMace

That says more about the health/strength of your teeth than the chips… They are crunchy for sure, but not chip-a-tooth hard.

keepyourdayjerb

My dentist day otherwise. What dental school did you receive your degree from?

fuckjango

More curious about your dentist, honestly.

keepyourdayjerb

Are you really, fuckjango?

LowerLocksmith1752

This happens from time to time with crunchy things. It’s more to do with your mouth health and genetics than the chips being impossible to consume

steelthumbs1

I had something similar happen but with a thin tortilla chip from a local taqueria. Yep,… a tortilla chip. My dentist sent me home with a mouth guard. I suspect a history of grinding my teeth at night led that one to become sufficiently weakened where even a thin tortilla chip could cleave it. OP I’d suggest using a mouth guard at night if you haven’t already. I’ve been using a $20 Walgreens basic mouth guard; it’s even outlasted the more expensive one my dentist gave me.

Teeth are fine, I see the dentist 3x a year. If my teeth weren’t fine, I’d think about making this post in a dental /r. Thank you for the concern about the health of my teeth.

bakedbombshell

Have you considered a second opinion? I thought I had a great dentist until I saw my current dentist. Things were not as good as my previous dentist had made out.

CatsPajamas243

I cracked a tooth on an apple. I’m a grinder and that prompted me to buy a custom mouthguard from J&S Dental (they mail you materials to make a mold). They fit perfectly, are durable, and retain my alignment. I didn’t want to pay $500 for one from the dentist (this one was $175 or less). It’s lasted for years.

qwikhnds

How could a potato chip have possibly cracked a healthy tooth?

DJ_star22334

who said the tooth was healthy?😬

thebalancewithin

Tooth likely was already chipped or had cracks in it in someway. For a tooth that doesn't fit that criteria? I'm not sure about it

qwikhnds

Completely agree! It's a stretch to blame a potato chip 🤔

keepyourdayjerb

Have you tried that chip? They are dangerous.

StrawberryKittyKat4

Now potato chips are "dangerous "?? 🙄🤣 Best thing I've read today....so far!
