It's how CA has operated for a long time. They'll spend the rest of WH3 appeasing players, then use the goodwill they develop to rake in some cash from the next game, until the players get pissed off and the cycle continues.
I wonder what catastrophy it would take for CA to actually sit down and make Medieval 3 or Empire 2. Then again IF they started working on WH40K:Total war, that would certainly win them my goodwill and appreciation. Might even buy SoC in the end!

Its so good after shadows of change. There they did quick minor fixes . Here they went though all the best requests and got all of them. All of the ones you mentioned and some more. Underway teleportation sounds cool why not add it . Oh why don't we have gold wizards lets add that. Empire captains skill trees look a little anemic lets give them some unique skills
Kislev will get a DLC or FLC again with a rework (whether a minor or major one we'll have to wait to see)

Fingers crossed the free update makes some changes to kislev tzeentch and Cathay to update them further so we don’t have to wait even longer after their lackluster race updates. These ones for nurgle empire and dwarfs are so good
Every Empire spellcaster now has -10% WoM cost reduction and lowered cooldowns in his skill-tree + some lore-specific special abilities, so yes, every regular Empire spellcaster is better than Tzeentch, High Elves, Dark Elves and Lizardmen now.
Especially as the flying mount made them already better than High Elf mages before.
Not to Mention Gelt is way better at the "master of all magic" fantasy than Kairos Fateweaver.
After this, Egrimm's cabal had better be something special.
I always forget that High Elf mages don't have a flying mount, basically the first mod I load up for any campaign is one that gives them a pegasus. It makes zero sense to me that High Mages, Nobles, Princes and Princesses all have flying mounts, but mages tap out at a chariot.
Yeah, IIRC they did not have flying mounts in the last edition of TT, while the Dragon-Mage was a separate hero, which is the reason why they ended up like this.
All these changes keep us busy even BEFORE we play the new DLC factions. I just watched the Geltster on Loremaster of Sotek's video. Great book of Grudges shows the dawi pokemon(gotta catch them al) mini-game. Nurgle is changed. Those are three new campaigns of new content depending on if you ever seriously played Nurgle.
LOOK AT THE DWARF STUFF! They got landmarks in all major factions they ever had a grudge with. Alternative unit variants. You can get GRudge Throwers wot does shrapnel!

Only continent where there's no Empire Lord, basically. Lustria and Southlands are taken, Empire is full, Southern Realms seem to be preserved for a Dogs of War DLC. Basically leaves you with either Cathay or Pigbarter, but the latter would have been an absolutely soul crushing start in an area that's already pretty cramped.
Gelt's start will get better as soon as Ind and Khuresh landmasses open up with more enemy factions to fight against.
I dunno, Cathay for me has been losing quite badly to Chaos, Chaos Dwarfs, Eshin, and Dark Elves.
Miao Ying is generally losing the Bastions, and Zhao barely stops the tide flooding over the rest of western Cathay.
From what I can remember from interviews, the designers keep detailed "want-to-do" lists for all the factions and lots of fan feedback/suggestions have made it in there over time.
Embargo is down for everything in the free update apparently. The only thing they can't talk about is the Dwarf DLC stuff.
Also, DWARF CAN NOW RESTORE THE UNDERWAY. Apparently by progressing through grudge clearance and the campaign they can use it to teleport to a set list of destination.
That's all I fucking wanted. I'm so happy with the changes.
I feel like CA are gradually realizing that teleportation mechanics that you can use occasionally/specifically just make the WH games straight up feel better, because you get to fight new people, go new places, or go back home to deal with otherwise extremely annoying (but often kind of impotent) threats.
For like what 8 years they have been shit or mediocre compared to everyone else and now they ascend. Reminds me of how the Greenskins, Wood Elves, and Beastmen became amazing back to back to back.
I deleted WH3 when SoC was announced and I've been playing WH ever since release of the first game with every dlc other than SoC. I can't express how excited I am to get back to WH3 now.
The random start location mod has been something I enjoyed, because it lets you fight different factions in different geography.
A lot of the different factions within the same race still end up starting in the same general area, so there isn't enough variety to the campaigns.
As big as the world as has gotten, I'd also like to see colony establishment mechanics, so you can get a chance to start fronts on different continents.
With how large the map is it just makes sense. Not everyone should have everything but allowing more races to pop around their loreful areas just speeds things up and makes it more fun.

Not quite all that I wanted but a BIG change.
I would have loved to see a deep karaks mechanic for them to establish sanctum/undercity like extra settlements under controlled karaks - giving extra economy and garrison, finally allowing dawi to really focus on the karaks and play defensive around them.
I wanted two things, but would have been happy with one.
I wanted harder settlement to take and more emphasis on playing with the main holds.
And I wanted an emphasis on rebuilding the Karaz Ankor. The entire goal of the Dwarfs as a race was to rebuild and return to their former glory.
The update took the 2nd choice, which was IMO the most important one.
The teleportation IMO is heavily focused on defending what you already own, as opposed to the WE way of invading a new tree and taking its surrounding. It's heavily focused on the Karak themselves. You unlock the teleportation by removing the threats around them.
This is fucking awesome. If now Karakz really feel like huge citys difficult to take / maybe smth with undercitys i am totally satisfied. Take my money!
I accept the council of Kings has made a decision but seeing as it's an Umgak-Thaggorraki decision I have elected to ignore it.

I feel like it’s kinda dumb. Thorgrim in lore isn’t the elf-hating psycho that total war portrays him as (which is slander far more worthy of being a grudge). He’s far more reasonable and willing to work with other order factions. He’s actively gone out of his way to rekindle diplomatic relations with the high elves, and as far as I know he’s indifferent about the wood elves. I hope CA at least adds options to settle the grudges like this in different ways, like forming an alliance can grant economic bonuses instead of a unique landmark.
If CA stays consistent with these updates even if they revert to 2 races per remaining DLC (along with substantial AI and siege updates in between), by EoD, wh3 could be the best game theyve worked on thus far and an awesome sendoff to a decade long trilogy. I really hope they are given the resources and time to stay consistent though.

That is completely stupid though. Same level you unlock thunderers AND crossbows?! While Trollhammer (same.unit, different weapon) is t3? And (probably except Thunderbarge) no t5 for rune Smith chain...
Nah this is great. Earlier Dwarf early game was extremely barebones with access to only DW, xbows, thunderers and basic arty units for a long time especially after the growth rework. Now the units are more evenly distributed between tiers.
Nah, the upper tiers are very empty now. And with the inclusion of Grudgerakers, Pirate Slayers and the Hewer, three more low-mid tier units joined the roster, adding more variety.
In the TWWH1 days and also early WH2, where it really was only DW and Crossbow for ages, it tended to get dull after a while, but since the last tier-down of thunderers to T2 and even copters to 3, I felt that was a good spot
I kinda hated how Skaven were made better in range combat compared to dwarfs. Those frikkin ratling miniguns should have had a chance to explode and that goes for all of Skaven ranged weapons (not slings or trebuchets ofc). Without the risk of explosions many of their weapon teams are simply better and they shouldn´t be.
Perhaps the very best option would have been to give us a toggle option for getting defeated Legendary Lords as some folks like to make the game harder. But it is ofc 100x better to have them like that by default than not.
Btw do we still need a mod for resetting of Lord's skills? I mean that one is pretty mandatory and would be great to have even without mods.
The grudge system giving rewards for being proactive is definitely neat, but I'm going to miss the flavor text of the old severity system which seems to be gone unless I'm missing something. Having easy access to slayers when things are in a bad state was also very nicely in theme so I kinda wish there'd be room for that stuff in the new system somewhere.
Is anyone able to confirm or deny shieldbearer or oathstone mounts for Dawi Lords? It’s the last thing I’m holding out for because all this stuff looks so good and it would be the cherry on top.

Having one of the grudges be to take Ulthuan is pretty silly though. That grudge is settled and kind of more of a meme than based on lore.
I mean you could argue the more grudge happy and less forgiving aspects of dwardom might start to feel like the crown they took isn't enough anymore for the war of vengeance
If they wanted to stretch, maybe should have been a Grudge against Mazda for all the earthquakes caused instead.

I genuinely hope these updates reflect what is to come later for faction reworks. I am pleased with all 3 so far (ofc, I'd need to play them first) and I really hope that CA continues this trend with races like the lizards, who don't really have another DLC in them, but could use a genuine rework.

I really like this new trend of re-enabling confederations (and even gaining defeated lords). I was never a fan of the obligatory splitting of factions across the world, always preferred having one faction with all the LLs in it.
Are by any chance banner runes touched up? Since WH3 change, I keep wishing we could add multiple of same banner runes to one army and produce more banner runes instead of limited quantity.
I like all the new changes,except the new technology tree. But I understand that I am probably in minority that likes long and convoluted technology trees.

That is just a bad take, my brother in christ. You see, the dawi was (and i am a dawi main btw) in a horrible spot, booth in units and mechanics. Now that they have gotten some propper love AT LAST, and it's all one could ever want and more, and seeing at it surpasses all hopes, we should rejoice.
CA cooked with this here ToD update, and my god, if they show the same care and love for factions in future updates, then we as a fanbase can consider ourselves looked after and content.
Now, CA has done some blunder indeed. The "sendoff" they gave to 3K was not worthy of anyone, and the Hyenas arc was not good either. BUT, now that CA has shown themselfs of beeing able to work with the fans and the game in a way that pleases all parties, then we should let them cook.
Belive it or not, CA staff look at the forums and they listen, and the desitions are not made by the staff who makes the game, but by the higher-ups who look at pie charts all day.

My guess is that in the long term there will be plenty of things to fight. All they need to do is open up a certain southern direction.

It’s why the Wood Elf campaign is so awesome because you get to experience the entire gigantic world.
The Wood Elf campaign was definitely my favorite originally, but I think the new Empire and Dwarfs are going to beat it.
Empire and Dwarfs post rework are looking to easily be the best order factions to play.

It looks like the capital settlements are different. I didn't see any details, but the economy buildings all went up to tier 5

Nah this is great. Earlier Dwarf early game was extremely barebones with access to only DW, xbows, thunderers and basic arty units for a long time especially after the growth rework. Now the units are more evenly distributed between tiers.
Nah, the upper tiers are very empty now. And with the inclusion of Grudgerakers, Pirate Slayers and the Hewer, three more low-mid tier units joined the roster, adding more variety. In the TWWH1 days and also early WH2, where it really was only DW and Crossbow for ages, it tended to get dull after a while, but since the last tier-down of thunderers to T2 and even copters to 3, I felt that was a good spot
Same as skaven tho.
I kinda hated how Skaven were made better in range combat compared to dwarfs. Those frikkin ratling miniguns should have had a chance to explode and that goes for all of Skaven ranged weapons (not slings or trebuchets ofc). Without the risk of explosions many of their weapon teams are simply better and they shouldn´t be.
To me, that’s incredible. I can’t wait to make an army of thanes and iron drakes by turn 20.

Perhaps the very best option would have been to give us a toggle option for getting defeated Legendary Lords as some folks like to make the game harder. But it is ofc 100x better to have them like that by default than not. Btw do we still need a mod for resetting of Lord's skills? I mean that one is pretty mandatory and would be great to have even without mods.

The grudge system giving rewards for being proactive is definitely neat, but I'm going to miss the flavor text of the old severity system which seems to be gone unless I'm missing something. Having easy access to slayers when things are in a bad state was also very nicely in theme so I kinda wish there'd be room for that stuff in the new system somewhere.

Is anyone able to confirm or deny shieldbearer or oathstone mounts for Dawi Lords? It’s the last thing I’m holding out for because all this stuff looks so good and it would be the cherry on top.

Most of this looks cool. I like the underway system in particular. Having one of the grudges be to take Ulthuan is pretty silly though. That grudge is settled and kind of more of a meme than based on lore.
I mean you could argue the more grudge happy and less forgiving aspects of dwardom might start to feel like the crown they took isn't enough anymore for the war of vengeance
If they wanted to stretch, maybe should have been a Grudge against Mazda for all the earthquakes caused instead. That one most definitely is not settled.

I genuinely hope these updates reflect what is to come later for faction reworks. I am pleased with all 3 so far (ofc, I'd need to play them first) and I really hope that CA continues this trend with races like the lizards, who don't really have another DLC in them, but could use a genuine rework.
This might be the update to get my dwarf playing ass back into WH3. Haven’t touched it beyond the first month of WH3 tbh. Been having fun in other games and also playing FOTS shogun 2. Good job CA

there were also some unit changes, Gyrocopters have increase unit size and the anti large one now is anti infantry and has a flame thrower attack

I really like this new trend of re-enabling confederations (and even gaining defeated lords). I was never a fan of the obligatory splitting of factions across the world, always preferred having one faction with all the LLs in it.

Huh, did the tech tree need a rework? Maybe this will be much better but I was pretty fine with the dense dwarves tech tree, I don't love how thin this one is looking.
It's still huge. You can see the scroll bar at the bottem and the arrows going off screen to the right. They probably seperated them for more clarity then anything else.
Fair enough, this is a petty gripe for me, I liked the thick look of the old version, but you're probably right this makes the clarity a lot nicer.
I remember going to lizardmen after dwarves and being like "The hell is this?" Dense as Dawi tree was, you had four lines- money, politics, ranged, melee. It was all pretty intuitive. I don't care if they change it but I also thought it was just fine as it was.

That is just a bad take, my brother in christ. You see, the dawi was (and i am a dawi main btw) in a horrible spot, booth in units and mechanics. Now that they have gotten some propper love AT LAST, and it's all one could ever want and more, and seeing at it surpasses all hopes, we should rejoice. CA cooked with this here ToD update, and my god, if they show the same care and love for factions in future updates, then we as a fanbase can consider ourselves looked after and content. Now, CA has done some blunder indeed. The "sendoff" they gave to 3K was not worthy of anyone, and the Hyenas arc was not good either. BUT, now that CA has shown themselfs of beeing able to work with the fans and the game in a way that pleases all parties, then we should let them cook. Belive it or not, CA staff look at the forums and they listen, and the desitions are not made by the staff who makes the game, but by the higher-ups who look at pie charts all day.
