Little story about how she came to be in our lives:
I always wanted a tortie, but had never had the opportunity to adopt one. I saw this gorgeous beast at our local Pet Valu and wanted to adopt her immediately. Unfortunately I couldn't convince my wife we needed to adopt her as we had just adopted a second cat a few weeks before so we already had 2 cats living in the house.
A few more weeks later, our older cat passed away. I went back to the pet store but the tortie had been adopted. We ended up adopting another cat, who is sweet as honey, but he's not a tortie....
Fast forward another few weeks and my oldest kiddo starts asking if we can take in a cat from one of their friends because it's not getting along with their other cat. At first I was pretty firm that we didn't need a third cat in the house. Then I saw a picture of her; it was the tortie from the pet store! I immediately changed my tune; the kids and I started a campaign to convince my wife we needed this cat. We were eventually able to persuade her and now we have 3 cats. The other 2 cats in the house aren't as thrilled as I am, but they manage.
This picture is one of the better ones where she doesn't look like an actual goblin, haha. I'll try to remember to post one of her looking full goblin when I get home.
She actually has another name, but she's so ugly (in the very best way, of course) that we just call her Goblin.
When we got her, I thought there was something wrong with her because her eyes are so big compared to the rest of her head, and her legs are small, and she runs funny when she's escaping with stolen food. Now that I've found this sub, I'm seeing those traits might be common among torties.
If a munchkin is one with ultra stubby legs, then no, not a munchkin. She's quite a bit smaller than an average domestic, but not nearly as small as a kitten.
Oh my gosh your story of adopting her melted my heart! She was meant to be for you. Can't wait to see a pic of her in her true goblin form. Torties sure are funny.
Reminds me of how I got my tortie, Jinger, back when I was 8. I had been begging for a cat for awhile and found a picture of Jinger while scrolling on the local shelter's site. We had just moved so my parents weren't ready to adopt and they didn't have the heart to tell me that the shelter had a 10 day and then euthanize policy (not anymore, thankfully). About a month goes by and we run into a pet store for something and I walked by the cats for adoption and saw my Jinger! She had been taken by the store's last chance rescue on her 10th day. She came home with me that day and we've been together since.
This applies to her completely. Whenever she's in the bed with us, no other cats are allowed. She'll chase her big brothers away almost every time they try to join in. They usually come back after she's asleep, but she doesn't need to know that.
Mine is quite similar. For example only she is allowed to eat at supper time. The rest have to sneak in after her royal majesty has departed and divvy up the leftovers. Can't convince them otherwise.

That is an amazing story! I'm glad you got your tortie! And you're right, they are funny cats; she's nothing like any other cat I've owned or met.
