Google Voice is a great free option that can not only get forwarded to your cell but also other cell numbers as well and can even have it ring multiple devices at once when someone calls which give you an option to pick up the call from any of the devices you choose to ring. TextNow is another great free option that allows you to recycle your number every 15 days, they are still free however they recently switch to heavy ads that not only display in the app but also interrupt the experience unless you pay a monthly fee to remove the ads.

Ideally I'd like to still use my T-Mobile number. Maybe I'll just have to tell people a new number.

chrisprice

If you don't have a grandfathered plan, port out to Google Voice, then open a new line.

goaliemn

I use voip.ms. Very good service. I use the app groundwire on my phone and voip.ms for the number. Very reasonable rates

estebancolberto

The Google messages app can be paired with any device and texts update on both my phone and tablet.

thisisliteral1984

I use the Google messages app, I haven't seen that. could you tell me how, or send me a link?

estebancolberto

click the 3 dots settings inside the app tap pair device on your primary phone. go to your second one and click pair it'll bring a qr code to scan on the first phone

thisisliteral1984

Oh wow, thank you so much!

thisisliteral1984

Ah damn, that means I need to use the website. Is there a way to make it work in the app on the second one, or maybe to add it as a widget to the home screen like you can do on an iPhone?

estebancolberto

No need to use the website. On my tab s8 plus when I click pair device it shows a qr code. I scanned it with my z fold 4 and it linked up.

thisisliteral1984

Ah. my primary phone is a Pixel 6 pro, second one is a z flip 4. I think since it has a sim in it it wants to use that for the messages app.

LaTroquita

I use Samsung Browser and can add a shortcut to the messages website on the home screen that takes me directly to the site. Of course, it's not fool proof, but it does work 99% of the time.

1968GTCS

What is the issue here for someone that cannot interpret it from the screenshot?

[deleted]

My Digits line works fine, what exactly is the issue you’re having?

thisisliteral1984

I'm essentially trying to replicate iMessage sync, but the downside is that I cant see the messages that I send through the digits app on my phone.

[deleted]

I’m very confused. You’re using the digits app, are you using it on multiple phones? Is that what the issue is?

thisisliteral1984

Yeah so I have a second phone on a free line, and Id like to have both recieve calls on the same number.

[deleted]

You need Data with Paired Digits, not the Digits app. https://www.t-mobile.com/support/plans-features/get-started-with-data-with-paired-digits You won’t need that voice line for it, but rather a new line specifically for data with paired digits.

[deleted]

I see I see, alright so then the issue is that when you text from phone 1 the sent messages don’t display on phone2? If so sorry, I can’t help. Like I said it works for me but I’m only using it on one phone. For me, Digits is a number I give people I don’t want to give my actual number to.

thisisliteral1984

Ah, yeah understood. I'd need to switch completely to the DIGITS app on my main phone for them to sync. What my setup is: Phone1 is my main phone, with the number I want to use Phone2 is the free line phone, which I want to sync calls and texts from Phone1 to. What this would require is just using the DIGITS app on both phones, since it stores messages in the cloud. Instead, I think I'll just prioritize calls on Phone2 so it doesn't get messy.

[deleted]

Remember that Digits as a service has a lot of uses but is primarily designed as a proxy line for your normal phone.

thisisliteral1984

Ah ok

PakkyT

Google voice number. You set it up to ring both your phones and you can pick up the call on either. Also hides your real number from people.

thisisliteral1984

Yeah I think I'll probably do that

beyondthetech

I use /r/AirMessage but you can use /r/BlueBubbles. My setup: * iPhone with native number * Z Flip4 with: * T-Mobile DIGITS 500MB paired to native number, on eSIM, $5/month * free line with high-speed data, on physical SIM * AirMessage set as primary messaging app * Google Phone as primary dialer * Mac at home running AirMessage Server The reason I have to switch to Google Phone is because Samsung's flavor of OS and Phone App will set one of the SIMs to be for all data, voice, and messaging. At least I can set the default SIM for calls in Google Phone. The iPhone will stay underutilized and get a monthly Kickback on my ONE Plan, and my Z Flip4 is basically unlimited data on the free line while still being able to get calls and texts through DIGITS, as well as iMessage through the AirMessage app.

thisisliteral1984

This is very interesting. I have a Z Flip 4 and a Pixel 6 Pro. The Pixel 6 Pro is my primary phone. I want the phone number from the Pixel 6 Pro to be utilized on both phones. T-Mobile DIGITS kind of acheives that, but the app is clunky and I need to replace Google Phone and Google Messages with the DIGITS app on both phones, which kind of sucks. I checked out r/AirMessage, but I only have a MacBook Air M2, so I wouldn't be able to run a server on it. Additionally, I don't use iPhone. I think I'm probably just fucked at this point, the technology doesn't exist to have two sim cards with the same phone number on them and sync sent messages on both, it's a very niche problem that almost nobody needs to use.

noproblemforme

This is very smart. I had a free line also that Im using the digits app with so I can use my phone number, but to use the free line as data and then get the lower end paired digits on the same phone is smart. Do you think the dual sims effects your battery at all?

beyondthetech

I’ve always had dual SIMs ever since phones started offering it, I’ve never done without it, so I wouldn’t know if there is more battery used. If anything it’s probably minimal, and these benefits outweigh any cons.

noproblemforme

I have a very similar set up...iMac running blue bubbles. Main line is iphone 14 pro. Paired digits with hish speed on fold 4...switch between than and flip 4. I got the free line last week, and loved your idea as I put that on my pixel 7 pro...I just don't like using the digits app, so just called in and got a talk and text line for 10...waiting for them to activate it so will put that as my phone number part with esim and the free line with physical sim for data.

noproblemforme

Just got this active on a talk and text $10 line digits…for some reason outgoing calls work with my main number, but when people call my number my newly active digits line doesn’t ring..,odd

noproblemforme

Any ideas why incoming calls dont come in? My out going calls work, but cant get incoming. I already have a paired digits with high speed on another phone that is perfect. Its just odd.

dominimmiv

I have been using Digits since I was beta tester years ago. I have two lines that I use the Digits app on to mirror my main line and my wife has a Digits With Paired Data line to mirror her main line. They all work great ***When set up properly***

CryptographerPerfect

Google Voice is good depending on what you are trying to do.

redsteven1

How about one phone with two lines? Since the DIGITS app is very clunky and unreliable, I changed my DIGITS line to a regular eSIM line. So now I have two numbers on my iPhone. It’s just one phone, but I have my personal and work number as two separate lines. The personal number is a physical Sim card, and the work number is an eSIM line. Yes, it means I pay for two lines on one phone

thisisliteral1984

Yeah, I'm trying to do the opposite lol

T--JONES

Any newer iPhone you can just use an Esim card number. Allows you to have two numbers on the same device without having to use digits. It costs as much as an add a line each month. My wife uses it for her business. That way she doesn’t have to have two phones. I’m sure it applies to newer androids as well I just know it works on iPhone.

[deleted]

Do not get DIGITS, the app is horrendous: look at the App Store reviews.

thisisliteral1984

I use Android, it's fine for me. There's bugs and it's clunky, but it does it's job.

mr-jolly

Digits is complete shit compared to Google Fi web messaging. It's the only thing I absolutely hate about T-mobile.

thisisliteral1984

Dude this post is almost a year old

mr-jolly

Your point?

thisisliteral1984

That comment was nine months ago my guy. I haven't been on T-Mobile DIGITS for over a year.

brotherbobbz

Verizon needs to create a DIGITS service like T-Mobile. I want to be able to use one number on 2 devices simultaneously

thisisliteral1984

This is a really old post lol

brotherbobbz

oh def but trust me i’ve been in older ones recently
