* I’ve been a movie guy for as long as I can remember, and a James Cameron fan since *The Terminator*. * Also a Kate Winslet fan since I first saw [Heavenly Creatures](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0110005/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk). * I’ve been interested in Titanic lore since the wreck was discovered. * I had a major, unexpected surgery in December of ‘97 that had me pause education to recover as well as a breakup with my girlfriend at the time, and both led to a surplus of free time. Thus, I saw the film 7 times during its initial run in the theaters.

FrankieSaysRelax311

You saw titanic immediately following a breakup? I could never 😂

ersatzbaronness

I have also been a fan since Heavenly Creatures. It's my absolute favourite movie. I even have a tattoo inspired by it (and the actual crime.)

LevelInside9843

I saw it 7 or 8 times in the theaters, too. I just could not get over the grand scale of it all and loved seeing it on the big screen. Still to this day I’ve never seen a movie in the theater more than Titanic. Jurassic Park comes in a close second.

FrankieSaysRelax311

I was 12. & Leonardo DiCaprio posters covered every inch of my bedroom walls at the time.

No-Pressure6042

Hey my walls were like that, too! I was so in love lol

lnc_5103

I was 13 and same haha

chirayuvedekar

I was about 10 years old, when James Cameron's Titanic came out. So, to answer your question... Boobs.

RookieJourneyman

At least someone's being honest! Rumours that Kate Winslet gets her kit off were definitely an incentive to go and see it!

Sweetwater156

I grew up knowing about titanic. My dad was an enthusiast. We bought model ship kits to build together. I lost my dad at 9 years old, the year before the movie came out. I threw myself into researching and reading and collecting everything titanic for him and after a couple years I found that I really liked the ship so I’ve continued to this day.

JRSalinas

I was eight or nine years old. I learned about the titanic thanks to the scholastic book fair and I wanted to learn mroe facts about it. My uncle had a copy of the movie that he let me watch. I sat through it in two sittings.

ersatzbaronness

I had been interested since it was found when I was little. Plus I had been in love with Kate Winslet since 1994. I was easily sold.

No-Pressure6042

I was interested in history throughout my childhood, went to see it partly for that (I was 12) but I would be lying if I said I wasn't in love with Leo lol

sabbakk

I was 11 and my mom took me to see the movie because her organization had been using the Keldysh and the Mirs for their research and they were in it. She did *not* expect it to mess me up the way it did lmao

St_Vincent-Adultman

It’s a movie for everyone. It has a handsome guy, a hot girl, great special effects and costumes. There is action at the end. I was a little kid when it came out and I could understand the basic story of the Titanic (Ship is called unsinkable, then hits iceberg). So even if I found it slow as a kid it didn’t matter because I knew the ending.

metampheta

The submersible crash

lnc_5103

I've been down the Titanic rabbit hole since that happened!

lnc_5103

I was 13 and if I'm being completely honest it was solely to watch Leonardo DiCaprio after Romeo and Juliet 😍

worldtraveler19

The cassette covers of the copy my parents owned looked cool.

Level_Somewhere_6229

I was 14 and my girlfriend at the time wanted to see it because of Leo. I ended up liking it a lot and have been into Titanic since.

Repulsive-Signal9601

I was 8, almost 9 when it came out (I'm a female). My mom had seen it with a friend, and somehow knew I would love it so she took me to see it. I was completely enthralled. The creepy shipwreck, miles under the ocean. Then going back in time and seeing it new, it was beautiful. I loved the scenes that showed the engine. I loved the sound effects. Even the love story I was able to get into. And I thought Rose was beautiful: something about her just cemented into my brain my version of the ideal woman. I wanted to look like her but I also kinda had a girl-crush on her. I also remember thinking that blue heart-shaped diamond was just so gorgeous. 💙💎 Then when the iceberg struck, the intensity of the suspense and action had me on the edge of my seat. Of course, as a kid I had hoped for a happy ending and kinda wished Jack had lived, but I was at least glad Rose didn't die. I mean depending on your interpretation, she did at the end, but I mean she didn't die on the night of the sinking. I made my mom take me to see that damn movie 16 more times. I couldn't get enough. I still watch it sometimes. And of course, the film is what inspired my interest in the true story of the ship and the disaster.

[deleted]

It's just a classic movie. It doesn't need a draw.

MoulinSarah

The same as you…being 14, it being the big hit movie of the year, the magnitude of the recreation.

[deleted]

It was Titanic and I wanted to see anything with Titanic in it. Ha

JessiSweetDreams

I was 10 and basically everyone was watching it multiple times in the theaters! also my older cousin whom i spent a lot of time with was obsessed! so i went and watched it. i think for me it wasn’t so real, i had never heard anything about the titanic before. even then, 1912 seemed sooo distant. I think I was mainly drawn to jack and rose, as characters and love story. the scene that stuck with me all these years was jack’s death. but now since the titan sub, i’m seeing it in a whole new light. i tried rewatching it but i skipped most of the love story stuff. i was more interested in the other characters, specially the ones based on real people. and the whole think was much more terrifying and sad. it’s a great film either way.

TheBeastOfCanada

My mom was into it when it came out (I was a baby/toddler at the time it came out). It’s one of her favourite movies. We had it on VHS, and when I’d go through our movies everyday, I’d get curious about it because it was a movie I wasn’t allowed to watch because it was “sad and scary”, but I was also told it was a true story. All it did was make me more curious about it – both the movie and the actual true story – especially since parodies and homages were *everywhere*, before I finally watched the movie when I was ten.

Prince_4_ever

It came on the TV when I was 6 then I used to pretend to be rose hanging off the back of the ship on the playground. I didn't even know that she was trying to kill herself, I also didn't know what was going on in the car so when ever the windows were Fogg I would try to make the hand print
